NOTES FROM THE BOSS DEAN GIBSON Dean Gibson on a disappointing performance against Motherwell and three huge games in our next fixtures.
I am delighted we got another three points to keep our unbeaten run going, although we are really disappointed with the performance. We let our standards drop which was disappointing. The flip side to that is it’s the sign of a good team to not play to your maximum and still come away with maximum points. We know we need to improve going into Wednesday night. As a whole, we have played really well. We aren’t giving much away in terms of opportunities and scoring more goals than we were earlier in season. We need to take that belief into in the next three fixtures. We have played well in them previously - it’s up to us now to start turning good performances into points in these games. It’s nice to be 4th in the league, as it means we have been picking up more points. We know these things will swing in roundabouts. The reality is though, finishing 4th in this league doesn’t get you much. At the start of the season, our aim was to be in that top four, to be competing for a Champions League position. If we finish 4th this season, we are quite a bit off 3rd place, so it’s all about building momentum for next season and closing the gap on the teams above. Both times (against Rangers) we have lost out by a goal. Both games you could count on one hand the amount of chances each team has created. We fully expect another tough game that we will give our all to try and keep the points in Edinburgh. The last fixture, we were disappointed in an attacking sense & we want to add more in the final 3rd this time. If we do that, we will have a real chance of winning the game.
THE CHANGING ROOM KIRSTY MORRISON
Hibernian's wide midfielder discusses her side's unbeaten streak and a tough run against the SWPL's top three teams. Staring from the bench in Sunday's win over Motherwell, Kirsty Morrison was able to see Hibernian's front line frustrated by a turgid Motherwell back line. However, Eilidh Adams' goal was enough to extend Hibs' undefeated run to four games: "It wasn’t our best performance against Motherwell, but we were happy to get the three points. To go on an unbeaten run is always a good thing, and we hope to continue the run for as long as possible. We have had a lot of tough games this season and have more to come, all of which we have to fight for." Wednesday's match is the third and final clash against Rangers this season, with the previous two matches seeing the sides separated by a solitary goal. Kirsty is well aware of the challenge facing Hibs on Wednesday, but is approaching it like any other game: "We go into every match looking to take points and this game is no different. We know it will be a tough match but are still looking to take points away from it." The match against Rangers kicks off a triple header against the top three teams in the league, as Hibs play Glasgow City on Saturday and Celtic on the following Wednesday. Performances were good in Hibs' last matches against these teams, and Kirsty believes that Hibs can look to earn some points from the following matches too: "It will be difficult especially with the number of midweek matches we are playing right now, but we are continuing to develop as a squad and are looking to take points away from these games."
