Slow cooking is a convenient and easy way to get dinner on the table in very little time. Agents will share tips, hints, and recipes so you will have dinner ready in a flash. See the latest in slow cooker designs and be ready to open your kitchen to super- fast slow-cooked meals. Please invite anyone you think might be interested in the topic. Everyone is welcome to attend. This class will be taught by Denise Wooley on September 28 at 1:30 PM at the Carlisle County Extension Office and September 30 at 1:30 PM at the Hickman County Extension Office. Another Taste of Hickman County Cookbook Our new cookbook features highlights from the Hickman County Quilt Trail. We had a wonderful volunteer photographer who spent hours taking pictures and editing the photographs out of her love for this area. Joni Adams Yates, we appreciate you and your husband more than we can say. If you ever want to be inspired by nature look her up on Facebook...you will be taken with her eye for beauty in the landscape. Price $15.00 Available at the Hickman County Extension Office. On Tuesday, September 27th, Carlisle County will host the Purchase Area Homemakers Annual Meeting at the Bardwell Baptist Church. UK is the theme, so show your Big Blue Spirit. Registration Fee for Hickman County is $12.00 and due to the Hickman County Extension Office by September 19th. We look forward to having a great delegation to represent Hickman County. Registration Fee for Carlisle County is discounted rate of $7.00 due to Carlisle County Extension Office by September 19th. Discount is given to the host county by decision of the Carlisle County Homemaker Council!!! We look forward to seeing you at this event and welcoming the Purchase Area to Carlisle County!!!

Ingredients • 1 cup shredded purple or green cabbage • 10 ounces fresh Brussels sprouts, shredded • 1 Granny Smith apple, diced • ½ cup celery, diced • 1 yellow bell pepper, diced • ½ cup dried cranberries • ¼ cup raw, shelled sunflower seeds • 2 tablespoons honey • ¼ cup olive oil • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice • 1 teaspoon celery seeds 1. In a large bowl, combine cabbage and next six ingredients. 2. In a small bowl, whisk honey with remaining ingredients. Pour over cabbage mixture and toss to coat.

Note: This is a unique way to serve Brussels sprouts, but you could also substitute shredded cabbage for the sprouts.
2016 Holiday Foods Tasting Gala - Carlisle County Extension Homemakers will host this annual popular event on the evening of November 1st at the Community Room at Carlisle County Cooperative Extension Service. Volunteer cooks
with unique and delicious recipes are needed! Email, mail or bring your recipes now! Recipe deadline is October 14. This year there will be a "Taster's Choice" Award for the favorite recipe of the evening. Register to attend now at the Carlisle County Extension Office - cost $10 by calling 270-628-5458. Registration is limited to 150.
We need Homemakers ( and Non Homemakers Friends), Club and Mailbox Members alike, to bring in your recipes for Taste of the Holidays by October 20. You can bring them by or e-mail them to clarkins@uky.edu. We need recipes of all kinds. We would love for you to bring at least one or more of your recipes to Taste of Holidays to share. We have had the most luck with making sure each dish can be separated into 120 samples/ tastes (a teaspoon). Everyone always does an outstanding job!! We always need workers to help serve that night as well!! If you have questions about being involved with Taste of the Holidays or would like to volunteer please call us at 653-2231!!!
