thinking and multidisciplinary exposure, with specialty in mind. That is, I am an Spatial Designer, and more. Since my background is in Architecture and Design, I have the advantage of being trained to tackle any problem through a systematical process of thinking to achieve the best solution. I am able to see the world from birds-eye view and zooming-in to the finest details. I have worked on different scales of projects, from graphic and product design to Urban Planning, keeping in mind all the related aspects of cultural, aesthetical, political, economic and social. Since 2009, I have gained valuable professional experience through summer training, internship, employment, freelancing and volunteering in many community activities. Moreover, I have successfully participated in many design competitions locally and internationally. The journey I have embraced during my academic and professional life had taught me that there is always more; purpose, benefit and meaning in everything.

HUMACITY
SYRIAN PAVILION AT VENICE ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE BIRMINGHAM INSTITUTE OF ART AND DESIGN BIRMINGHAM CITY UNIVERSITY MA INTERIOR DESIGN GRADUATION PROJECT VENICE ARCHITECTURAL BIENNALE VENICE, ITALY Master’s Graduation Project Author: Hidaya Budair Project Supervisor: Delia Skinner &
TITLE: ‘HUMACITY’: Homs + Human + City : A spatial and theoretical installation for the Venice Architecture Biennale2012-13th International Architecture Exhibition, that re-presents a ‘NOW’ vision and identity for the torn city of Homs. WHAT & WHERE: The juxtaposed structural grid represents the buildings and alleys of Homs and is designed to sit metaphorically within the historic armory ‘Artiglierie dell’Arsenale’, emphasizing the illegitimate destruction of this historic deep-rooted city. WHY: “It is in the dialogue with pain that many beautiful things acquire their value.”Alain de Botton. This is a poignant project. The key driver in this humanist project was to draw political attention to the conflict in Syria. Spaces have been semiotically encoded to elicit strong emotional reactions in recipients. These reactions should act as a catalyst for critical thinking, about the ethics of war and its impact culturally and socially.

The focus of our research was to look into crystalline growth and apply this research into the definition of a new typology for the Hammam (Turkish bath). We have carried a photographic survey of crystalline growth and selected a specimen where we envisaged interesting spacial and volumetric qualities. Looking at the crystal aggregation selected we defined a set of building blocks with a fixed shape and different percentages of porosities. We set a rule of aggregation, based on a spiral movement and an alteration in scale and rotation. We defined different mixes of base components to run the aggregation rule with and in turn we evaluated their performances based on the analysis of light penetration inside the result shape. We refined our mix and created several aggregations, tested them, until we reached our target value for the light penetration (set to 65%, based on a brief analysis of the existing typology) The selected specimen

The focus of our research was to explore the different characteristics and systems of three species that live in the Red Sea and apply the findings of the research into the definition of a new proposal for a Coral Center: a public space that would host coral farms & other facilities. We have carried a photographic survey of different species including Maxima Clam, Leather Coral and Lion fish where we envisaged interesting spatial and volumetric qualities along with systems and design vocabulary. Looking at the features selected we defined multiple platforms that would host a coral exhibition, coral farms, laboratory, snorkeling pool, outdoor platforms, and an outdoor auditorium. We set different variables, based on motion, growth, layering and an alteration in scale and rotation. We defined different combinations of systems and we evaluated their performances based on the analysis of each species. We refined our combination and created an integrated system that sets harmoniously within its environment, and provides a new home for corals to grow.
The selected species: Left: Leather Coral, Top RightL Maxima Clam, Bottom Right: Lion Fish

GYM BOUTIQUE HOTEL BIRMINGHAM INSTITUTE OF ART AND DESIGN BIRMINGHAM CITY UNIVERSITY JEWELLERY QUARTER BIRMINGHAM, UK
Commercial Sector: UK Hospitality Facility: Boutique Hotel - reception area Location: Birmingham Jewellery Quarter Client: Kevin Singh - Architect
This project was part of MA Interior Design Program. A real project located at the Jewellery Quarter Heritage Site. The building of the Hotel is registered as a ‘Locally Listed Building’, which is an important part of Birmingham’s heritage due to its architectural and historic significance. Previously a silverware factory. Engagement with industry & industry-based scenarios was a key aim for this project, with particular reference to the management of successful projects. This project focus on issues in relation to ‘design policy’ at organisational, regional, national & international levels. Throughout the project appreciation of culture was proven by identifying the potential connections that it could have with the notions of new markets, creativity & innovation. The concept of GEM was to tell the story of the building and its workers in a subtle way, with elements that links to the past, and views the future.

CONCEPT :
The symbolism of number Four: Four represents the cross, the square, and the four quadrants of a circle. Respectively, the cross signifies integrity and plentifulness, the square is a symbol of stability and clarity, and the quadrant symbolises parts of the whole. There are four basic elements (water, earth, wind and fire), which are used symbolically in the spa. The symbolism of Four Nail Spa: Four Nail Spa tells the story of integrated dichotomies in terms of: - Shapes: Rectilinear/Rigid and Curved/Organic - Materials: Rough/Natural and Polished/Industrial Atmosphere: Warm and Cold, Dry and Humid Social Spaces: Socio-fugal (encourages isolation) and socio-petal (encourages social interaction). Four is designed as a welcoming, garden-like social experience that attracts youth to experience high-end services in a fresh and casual atmosphere. The softly backlit natural wood panels with the rough grey concrete flooring, which contrasts and compliments the highly polished White surfaces and transparent glass creating a scenery of ascetic modernism, while reminiscent of nature.

Amman Design Week 2017 Gift Shop HIDAYA BUDAIR DESIGN STUDIO AMMAN, JORDAN
“Amman Design Week is an annual immersive experience in design. Focused on creating a forum for learning, exchange and collaboration. The second edition took place from 6 - 14 October 2017.” Following the 2017 theme of “movement”, the Gift Shop was designed to convey vertical and horizontal movements. The challenge was to use only the honeycomb cardboard; a material that is usually seen as fixed and rigid. Horizontal movement was achieved by playing with the spacing between the vertical shelves’ dividers, and the size of the honeycomb cell (thickness of the board), from big to small. While vertical movement was created in the center of the gift shop, by changing the levels of concrete blocks, cardboard blocks and light pendants. Moreover, some shelves were designed as hammocks, where light weight products can sit and light can cast shadows through. Amman Design Week 2017 Press Lounge "THE CARDBOARD CLOUD" HIDAYA BUDAIR DESIGN STUDIO AMMAN, JORDAN
“Amman Design Week is an annual immersive experience in design, supported by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah. Focused on creating a forum for learning, exchange and collaboration. The second edition of the nine-day annual celebration took place from 6 - 14 October 2017.” Following the 2017 theme of “movement”, the Cardboard Cloud at the Press Lounge was designed to convey the feel of movement in the form of an Arch and a Cloud. The subtle arch was created as a canopy to welcome Her Majesty Queen Rania as she launches Amman Design Week. While the Cloud will shade media throughout ADW, as a metaphor of movement, change, and continuous development. The material used was honeycomb cardboard, cut in a specific direction and with different heights, to show the flexibility and adaptability of a material that is usually seen as fixed and rigid.
