What does it mean to be an Episcopal school?
HIES is the nation’s largest Episcopal parish day school and the only 3-year-old through 12th-grade Episcopal school in Georgia. We are a Christian school that serves a diverse community of faculty, staff, students and their families. All are welcomed and affirmed here, no matter your faith tradition. At HIES, we are steeped in the Episcopal intellectual tradition of academic excellence, ethical and servant leadership, global awareness and creating well-rounded intellectual adventurers.
WE LISTEN.
WE WELCOME.
We welcome all students, of varying faith traditions, to embark on a journey to pursue their passions and be challenged to reach their full potential. HIES is a place where the full spectrum of God’s presence in the world and in our lives is explored, deepened and celebrated. We affirm the gifts, faith traditions and backgrounds of all HIES students.
WE LOVE.
We believe God calls us to love. We are called to be a family based in love.
We encourage students to listen to the views, the hearts and the actions of others. We are a community of explorers drawing on curiosity, critical thinking and reason.
WE LEARN.
We learn to think widely, deeply and boldly and to intellectually engage with the world and our roles in it. As an Episcopal school, we believe that learning is a critical and life-long skill we wish to instill in all.
WE WORSHIP.
We gather as a community, students, faculty and staff in weekly chapel services and beyond that affirm both our Christian traditions and religious diversity. We celebrate values that unite rather than divide and we nurture the ethical and moral lives of all involved.
WE SERVE.
As students embark on their HIES journey, we ask each student, “How will you impact the world? How will you strive for justice and peace among all people, recognize and respect the dignity of every human being?” We build change agents of all ages to serve others and transform the world.
All are welcome.
10 + FAITH TRADITIONS REPRESENTED
Multiculturalism at HIES
Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School provides a welcoming and supportive environment, embraces differences inherent in a diverse community and embodies the inclusive Episcopal tradition of respect for the beliefs and cultures of others. We offer programs and activities that enhance each student’s sense of self, purpose and potential, and we foster a spirit of respect and open-mindedness. Inclusiveness, compassion, kindness, integrity—these are values that are taught, modeled and instilled across our school life.
Respectful of all persons and traditions, ours is a uniquely diverse and close community. We are an active community of faith engaged in local, national and international service to others.
Faculty and staff teach that through investigation and understanding of experiences outside of our own, we come to a greater understanding of ourselves.
We strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of all human beings.

Alpha-Omegas
Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School has graduated 700 Alpha & Omega students (attending HIES from Primary School through Upper School) since 1995—the first graduating class at HIES.
At Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School, we know that children thrive when they are known, valued, fully engaged and excited to learn. The Primary School provides the ideal foundation for that growth and success in so many dynamic ways!

PRIMARY SCHOOL
Lower School Grades 1-5
In the Lower School, it’s our responsibility to sharpen the intellectual curiosity, spark the passion in each child and help them live into their full potential. The Lower School is a school of today for the world of tomorrow. Our curriculum focuses on critical and creative thinking, connecting ideas and collaboration. It is challenging, engaging and exciting for all our growing intellectual adventurers.
Creating Global Citizens
Students develop courage, openness, reflection and empathy in the unique Global Faith and Service class, which brings the world into the classroom by exposing students to different cultures around the globe and encouraging them to choose to make a difference in this world.
We maintain an intentional focus on academics and innovative thinking, while infusing character development and social-emotional learning. Students are supported and encouraged to expand and apply their knowledge across all subject areas in relevant and purposeful ways.

Middle School Grades 6-8
The Middle School experience offers all students a relevant, innovative and globally competitive education.
Through our college prep and honors classes, we challenge students’ creativity and intellect in new ways and from new perspectives to form deeper connections to the world around us.
Experiential Learning
We believe learning should happen inside and outside of the classroom. The PEAK Institute’s eighth-grade class, Sports Marketing and Event Promotions, allows students real-world experiences. Throughout middle school, students engage in overnight retreats, white water rafting and team-building activities to bolster students’ enthusiasm for learning and becoming change agents and leaders in society.
In Middle School, teachers at Holy Innocents’ take the time to cultivate meaningful and purpose-driven relationships with students, nurturing and building their passions, fueling their curiosity, emboldening their creativity and expanding their disciplinary knowledge and skills, all while allowing them to feel safe and supported in the context of new intellectual and social challenges. They are nurtured and guided along their journey to becoming the best possible versions of themselves.

Upper School
Grades 9-12
In an Upper School with offerings more typical of a college, the ways to success are many. At HIES, individual and community success is part of the plan.
When a student arrives in Upper School, we meet with the family to create a fouryear plan. We talk about passions and goals. We talk about academic challenges and enriching activities. And with guidance and support, we position each student to carve their own path to success!
Advanced Placement Classes
The Upper School offers 27 Advanced Placement Classes, 41 Honors Courses and four post-Advanced Placement classes from which to choose.
In the Upper School, we want to provide students challenges that give them opportunities to grow — whether that’s in the classroom, on stage, in the art room or on the athletic field.

Be a visual artist through drawing, painting, printmaking, photography (digital and darkroom), graphic design, ceramics, sculpture, woodworking, jewelry design - or try your hand at coding for art and game design and explore how classic concepts of computer science and art come together to create interactive art.
Be a media artist through film and TV production and watch as your concept goes from story board to City Springs Movie Theatre or be an on-camera anchor, field reporter or producer for our weekly WHIS broadcast.
