Description:

We have opened the Young Engineers Workshop for weeks of fun, creativity, and of course engineering! This class has been designed specifically to help establish the necessary foundational information that defines engineering. Using the Engineering Design Process, the class will explore different types of engineering such as Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Marine, Mechanical, and more! With basic household and specialty supplies, the students will build projects that float, fly, zoom, buzz, and hopefully stand strong! Engineering For Kids’ programs are Cognia STEM Certified, STEM.org Accredited, and aligned with National Teaching Standards. Description:

Miss Ayana’s Dance class will help young dancers learn primary terminology, and the basic foundations to begin ballet and jazz technique. Class includes a floor stretch, and across the floor steps and has more time built in for fun activities. This class will give students who have already taken Miss Ayana’s ballet class more time to explore their creative movement, with a focus on creative dance activities, like freeze dance, ribbons, animal action, and many new movement-based activities. Students will increase their musicality and movement while incorporating Dance steps and positions through imagery and creative dance activities.

Description:

Students will learn hand sewing while creating our fun Sweet Treats or dessert toys. Students will create a stuffed Watermelon Slice, Candy Pillow, Peppermint, Marshmallow stuffie, Ice cream, and cake pillow! We will turn each item into toys by adding wheels, faces, or squishy inside. This class introduces students to basic sewing techniques such as straight stitching, sewing curves, machine threading, hand stitching, and running stitch.

Certified coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of flag football with a strong focus on agility, footwork, and hand-eye coordination. These skills are essential to all sports and will help create a solid sports foundation while also teaching valuable life lessons including perseverance and sportsmanship. Description:

Have you ever wanted to be a scientist? Or to increase your understanding of the natural world? Well, you’re in luck! In this class, we’ll learn about physics and the natural world through fun, easy science experiments you can take home. We’ll learn about states of matter by building volcanos and sound by creating ‘naturally occurring’ speakers. Along the way, we’ll be taking our experiments outside to improve our school's environment by planting simple gardens and making bird feeders. It’s the perfect club if you love science, nature, engineering, or just making things blow up.

The class is designed to teach flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness using gymnastics skills while building positive self-esteem in a relaxed, fun, yet challenging atmosphere. We offer a non-competitive program that builds gymnastics skills through progressions, implementing a variety of age-appropriate equipment and training aids as well. All Airborne instructors are USAG and safe sport certified. Skills taught include: Forward & Backward Rolls, Handstands, Cartwheels, Bridge Ups & Bridge Kickovers, Pullovers, leaps, jumps, hops, and walks on beams. Students will work on body control and will focus on building strength and flexibility, which is an important part of gymnastics.

Soccer Shots is an engaging soccer experience for children of all ages. Using age-appropriate lessons, our Soccer Shots lessons focus on new skill development along with character building to create the most fun soccer experience a child can ask for! During Kids TV Jr., students in Lower grades 1st - 2nd will learn the basics of camera and acting for the camera. Then, the kids will work in groups to create 3 projects for the semester consisting of commercials, a talk show, and a silent movie.

We’re now in a world where even very young students can use free-online AI tools to generate essays, stories, and even music, television, or games. In this new world, kids can cultivate their own creativity at young ages by doing projects like creating AI symphonies, working with partners and AI to create animated books, and generating AI animations. Along the way, they’ll gain access to a suite of tools that can help with homework in the future, build familiarity with the new AI world we’re moving into, and — importantly — understand when and when not to use this powerful new tool.

Open to boys and girls, the Golden Bears 1 through 5 grade Fall Soccer Clinic is a custom-built program that was developed by our HIES Upper School coaching staff. Their training goals will be to develop confident, creative, and skillful players. They will identify and train the most critical "moves and skills" needed to dominate 1v1 situations and help players build a deeper understanding of how to play the beautiful game of soccer.

Description:

Put on your lab coat because it’s time to blend Culinary Arts and STEM together! In this program, we will explore the science that happens in your kitchen every week. We will learn about tools used by cooks and chemists, acquire food preparation techniques, discover the origins of flavors you’ve come to love and so much more. Some of the exciting topics include: What is the Maillard Reaction? What causes popcorn to explode? What are ratios and how do they relate to baking? How does emulsification and suspension help us make salad dressing? New Topics are covered each week throughout the school year.

Note: In some lessons, students will be exposed to, prepare, consume, or take home a variety of food items. We will inform you in advance of food items we will utilize each week. However, we are rarely able to make substitutions due to the chemistry-focused nature of the lessons. If your student or household has an allergy or dietary restriction, please let us know in advance.

Become a purr-fect veterinarian! Students will role-play the key responsibilities of a veterinarian and perform a whiskers-to-tail exam on their newly “adopted” plush cat. Let’s get active in after-school! In this class for kids, we’ll play a different, carefully chosen sport or active game every single session. Students will put their bodies in motion and release surplus energy in a way that will help them be more present during the school day and at home. They’ll develop functional movement patterns that will make them more effective and boost their self-esteem for other sports. Along the way, they’ll practice teamwork, communication, and emotional self-regulation skills that will help them everywhere, not just on the field or court. It’s sure to be a great time!

Students will learn the basics of sideline cheerleading with a focus on technique. Every class will include stretching, motion technique, jumps, chants, cheers, stunts, dance, and cheerspecific conditioning. The class will work towards a routine that will be performed on the last day of the session for parents. Having coached competitive cheerleading for over a decade I am excited to share my love of the sport. By focusing on building technique across these skills, these Golden Bears will be ready to carry their learnings to other teams and cheerleading opportunities!

In this engaging class children will learn self-respect and respect for others with the practice of fun and challenging poses, partner, and group poses, lots of yoga games, breathing and basic anatomy. While improving strength, flexibility, and coordination, kids will practice how to focus and center themselves. Various breathing and visualization techniques will help teach effective ways to manage anxiety and reduce stress.

Description:

Students will showcase their unique voice and perspective through the creation of original lyrics. We will meet weekly to explore the creative and technical aspects of Songwriting. This is a great class for students to learn creative writing skills, poetry, storytelling, self-expression, spelling, and confidence building. Children will learn how to record lyrics for memory keeping as we record to popular instrumentals. We will discuss vocal warmups and exercises for singing. At the end of the semester students will have written an original song selection. A voice recorder will be provided to each student for use.

Description:

Your child will learn social, leadership, dining and money skills to feel more comfortable and self-assured in social situations. This enjoyable and informative program includes role-playing exercises. Workbooks are included and can be kept as a reference. The Dave Ramsey money class includes a kit, Financial Peace, Jr., that will help your child learn how to give, save and spend. An optional graduation dinner will be offered after the class is completed so that your child can practice all of the social and dining skills he/she has learned. Come and join Mrs. Winter and Ms. Babaz to cook some of the Wizarding World's favorite treats! Place the sorting hat upon your head and learn what house you belong to. Represent your house and take part in a cooking competition between the houses. The house with the most points will win the house cup!
