Traditionally, Rietberg containers are double-walled. Double-walled means that an approved leakage indication system ensures that both container walls are monitored at the same time. This way, a possible leakage can be detected and displayed before any fluid can leak and cause environmental damage. For double-walled containers, no collection tray and, additionally in the event of erection in an outdoor area, no roof are required. Furthermore, the erection and operation in water protection areas do not cause any problems. Rietberg vacuum leakage indicator This system permanently monitors both container walls. It is self-contained and therefore also admissible for usage outdoors. It is robust and environmentally friendly and works completely independently from energy sources..
Traditionally, Rietberg containers are hot-dip galvanised Therefore, they are perfectly protected against corrosion. The containers are individually hot-dip galvanised in a dip coating procedure according to DIN EN ISO 1461 and are thus equipped with an internal and external zinc coating of at least 55 Âľm. Thanks to the hot dip galvanisation, the surface receives a cathodic self-protection and is extremely abrasion-resistant. In Germany, as per DIN EN ISO 14713-1, an annual zinc abrasion of 1 Âľm is expected. Therefore, the containers are equipped with a corrosion protection which lasts decades.
Traditionally, Rietberg containers are completely mounted Whether as fuel supply containers or disposal containers for waste material. In Rietberg containers, all necessary fittings and (ordered) equipment, e.g. fuel dispensing pumps or an overfill safeguard, are pre-mounted. The system is immediately ready for operation.
The erection of an on-site filling station saves costs and time. Fuel which is purchased at favourable conditions can be stored safely and is available at all times. This saves the drive to public fuel stations and grants independence from their opening hours. Rietberg filling stations are designed for the aboveground storage of fuels. They are manufactured in accordance with the introduced standards (DIN, EN) or based on the general approvals of the building inspection authorities and thus, depending on their respective type, they are admitted for the storage of fuels such as diesel/heating oil or petrol and other mineral oil products.
Rietberg diesel filling stations can be delivered with volumes from 1,000 to 16,000 litres. In combination with the Rietberg fuel filling station as tank area, you will receive a comprehensively approved on-site filling station fulfilling all applicable requirements as per TRWS 781. Rietberg petrol filling stations can be delivered with volumes from 400 to 995 litres. For operation, a concrete tank area which corresponds to the requirements as per TRWS 781 is required.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIESEL ON-SITE FILLING STATIONS ACCORDING TO TRWS 781 (GERMANY) Meaning and components In accordance with AwSV (German directive on systems to handle substances hazardous to water) § 2(12), on-site filling stations are petrol stations which are non-accessible for the public and intended to fill company-internal vehicle or comparable vehicles and devices, e.g. Agricultural machines, with fuel and which have a yearly throughput of maximally 100 m³. They are only operated by the operator or personnel instructed by the operator. On-site filling stations consist of an above-ground storage container, a discharge unit and a filling area – e.g., the Rietberg fuel filling station for indoor and outdoor installation.

For transport of hazardous substances, type-tested and approved containers like tankers, tank containers and packaging including intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) are generally required. Rietbergwerke manufacture tank containers, IBCs and packaging. In terms of their capacity, tank containers are theoretically unlimited; IBCs have a maximum capacity of 3,000 litres and packaging is restricted to a capacity of 450Â litres. As mentioned, the specified regulations are generally applicable. However, there are differences in application depending on the approval of the container and exceptions. Please note that the conditions for safe transport and universal application are only met by approved containers. To ensure better readability, the term ADR is used in the following to refer to all regulations on transport of hazardous substances.

Marking Packaging and IBCs are to be marked as follows according to ADR chapter 5.2: ›› The UN no. of the transported substance (e.g. diesel: UN 1202) ›› The mark for environmentally hazardous substances (fish and tree, black on white surface) ›› Hazard label (e.g. diesel: no. 3, flame, black or white on red surface) The specified markings have to be attached on two opposite sides of IBCs with a capacity of more than 450 litres and on one side of smaller packaging. Additionally, the containers are to be labelled with substancerelated hazard warnings according to GHS. In addition to the container, we provide a set of adhesive labels for initial marking. Additionally, a pictogram on the ICB specifies whether the container is stackable or not. The following illustration is an example for marking of an IBC for diesel.

CRAFTSMAN REGULATION This refers to containers which are used based on the exceptional regulation according to ADR 1.1.3.1 c), the so-called “craftsman regulation”. ADR defines various exemptions and exceptional regulations, among others those in connection with the type of transport. For instance, according to subsection 1.1.3.1 c), the provisions of ADR do not apply to “transports which are carried out by companies in connection with their main task”. At the same time, however, direct “internal or external supply operations” are excluded from this exemption. What does that mean? The implementing directives for hazardous goods (RSEB) provide annotations on the ADR and the following definition on subsection 1.1.3.1 c): Section 1-6.1 Exempted are transports for direct use, e.g. ›› Paint in the vehicle of a painter ›› Oxygen or acetylene cylinders in the vehicle of a welder ›› Fuel for filling lawn mowers in the vehicle of a municipal employee Section 1-6.2 Intermediate supplies for fuel systems do not directly fall under

03 FUEL CONTAINERS FOR POWER UNITS AND HEATERS
Heating and ventilation equipment or generators can be found on construction sites and in industrial plants but also during any type of events. Heating and ventilation equipment and generators can be used for a multitude of purposes, such as the heating of construction sites in winter or of festival tents, for ventilating and drying construction sites or for maintaining the energy supply. The function of these aggregates depends on the secure fuel supply. Rietberg fuel containers of the QUADRO-AG series are a professional solution for this type of use. As admissible transport containers (IBC) for hazardous substances, they can be transported securely and unrestrictedly to the location of use at all times – even while being filled – according to ADR 1.1.3.6, up to
a quantity of maximally 1000 litres under simplified conditions. Therefore, the driver does not need an ADR certificate and the vehicle does not have to be marked as transport of hazardous goods. Additionally, the containers are admissible as storage containers and can thus remain on site, even outdoors, without any problems. Collection trays and similar equipment are not required since the containers are double-walled. The plastic or combination IBC, which is often used in the sector, the use is restricted to a maximum of 5 years. Rietberg QUADRO-AG are completely made of steel and therefore are not subject to any restriction of the period of use. A Rietberg QUADRO-AG is a sustainable product which can be used for decades.

For transport of hazardous substances, type-tested and approved containers like tankers, tank containers and packaging including intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) are generally required. Rietbergwerke manufacture tank containers, IBCs and packaging. In terms of their capacity, tank containers are theoretically unlimited; IBCs have a maximum capacity of 3,000 litres and packaging is restricted to a capacity of 450 litres. As mentioned, the specified regulations are generally applicable. However, there are differences in application depending on the approval of the container and exceptions. Please note that the conditions for safe transport and universal application are only met by approved containers. To ensure better readability, the term ADR is used in the following to refer to all regulations on transport of hazardous substances.

Marking Packaging and IBCs are to be marked as follows according to ADR chapter 5.2: ›› The UN no. of the transported substance (e.g. diesel: UN 1202) ›› The mark for environmentally hazardous substances (fish and tree, black on white surface) ›› Hazard label (e.g. diesel: no. 3, flame, black or white on red surface) The specified markings have to be attached on two opposite sides of IBCs with a capacity of more than 450 litres and on one side of smaller packaging. Additionally, the containers are to be labelled with substancerelated hazard warnings according to GHS. In addition to the container, we provide a set of adhesive labels for initial marking. Additionally, a pictogram on the ICB specifies whether the container is stackable or not. The following illustration is an example for marking of an IBC for diesel.

For determination of the total score, the volumes of transport category 2 are multiplied by a factor of 3 and the volumes of transport category 3 by a factor of 1. For simplified transport, the total score of 1,000 points must not be exceeded. For example: ›› Petrol, II, 2: 150 litres x 3 = 450 points ›› Diesel, III, 3: 500 litres x 1 = 500 points ›› Total: 950 points Even though numerous ADR regulations do not need to be taken into account for simplified transport, a few rules still have to be observed: ›› Marking and labelling (ADR chapter 5.2) must be complete and readable ›› A 2 kg fire extinguisher (ADR section 8.1.4.1 (a)) must be carried. ›› A shipping document (ADR section 5.4.1) must be carried. Of course, it is also generally required that the container: ›› is technically intact ›› is tightly sealed during transport and, as applicable, that repeated inspection and testing have been carried out.
CRAFTSMAN REGULATION This refers to containers which are used based on the exceptional regulation according to ADR 1.1.3.1 c), the so-called “craftsman regulation”. ADR defines various exemptions and exceptional regulations, among others those in connection with the type of transport. For instance, according to subsection 1.1.3.1 c), the provisions of ADR do not apply to “transports which are carried out by companies in connection with their main task”. At the same time, however, direct “internal or external supply operations” are excluded from this exemption. What does that mean? The implementing directives for hazardous goods (RSEB) provide annotations on the ADR and the following definition on subsection 1.1.3.1 c): Section 1-6.1 Exempted are transports for direct use, e.g. ›› Paint in the vehicle of a painter ›› Oxygen or acetylene cylinders in the vehicle of a welder ›› Fuel for filling lawn mowers in the vehicle of a municipal employee Section 1-6.2 Intermediate supplies for fuel systems do not directly fall under the exemption regulation of subsection 1.1.3.1 c).

Therefore, one precondition for making use of the so-called “craftsman regulation” is that the fuel (together with the machine) is transported directly in order to be consumed directly, while only residual quantities are transported back again. The “craftsman regulation” does not include transports for distribution purposes, i.e. the supply of multiple machines on different construction sites (supply operations) as well as drives to the next service station (intermediate supplies), for instance.

STATIONARY USAGE Mobile fuel systems, which are operated in one place for a specific operational purpose for a period of more than six months are regarded as stationary. They are then subject to the regulations of the German directive on systems to handle substances hazardous to water (AwSV).
However, the “craftsman regulation” also indicates that containers can be used which are neither type-tested nor comprise a UN approval.

04 STORAGE CONTAINERS FOR SUPPLY AND DISPOSAL
To the storage of hazardous substances, depending on the protection objective, regulations from several areas apply, e.g. occupational safety, fire and explosion safety or environmental protection (water, air). The provisions of the various laws and related regulations and technical rules shall all be observed at the same time. Rietberg storage containers were designed specifically for the storage of water-polluting and/or flammable liquid hazardous substances. The meet the requirements of all relevant provisions applicable to the storage of such liquids. Here, it does not matter whether the liquid is “only” water-polluting (e.g. Motor oil) or also heavily (e.g. heating oil) or lightly (e.g. ethanol) flammable.
Rietberg storage containers provide a legally compliant, secure and appropriate solution for every application. They are available in cubic or cylindrical design and in sizes of 400 to 16,000 litres of volume. The surface design depends on the application and the medium to be stored. Completely, i.e. internally and externally, hot-dip galvanized containers, painted containers or containers made of 100% stainless steel are available. Additionally, containers with special interior coating, e.g. with an acid-resistant rubber coating, can be delivered.

For adjustment to structural conditions like the utilization of recesses, multi-tanks are available with a variable jacket height between 530 and 1500 mm. With a constant surface area, the total height and the capacity of the container are adjusted. OVERFILL PROTECTION If containers are filled in such a way that the filling level cannot be identified (i.e. via a fixed line), it has to be ensured that the container cannot be overfilled. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR STORAGE CONTAINERS (GERMANY) The requirements for installation of storage containers for water-polluting, non-flammable substances, fire-resistant (formerly technical rules for flammable fluids TRbF AIII) and flammable fluids (ELH-fluids. formerly flammable fluids class AI, AII and B) are defined for Germany in the ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) of the technical rules for operating safety (TRBS) and the ordinance on Installations for the Handling of Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV). The Vd-TÜV datasheet 967 for fuel systems is regarded as the state of the art and is to be observed. Building and fire protection regulations may also be applicable.
According to Germany ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV), storage of fluids with a flash point above 55 °C does not require any approval. According to the BetrSichV, an approval is required for storage of more than 450 litres of flammable liquids. Installations for storage of flammable liquids with a total capacity of more than 10,000 litres require monitoring. According to the German ordinance on Installations for the Handling of Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV) specifies a reporting requirement for above-ground systems as of hazard level B. The hazard level is defined by the water hazard class of the storage medium and the storage capacity (table of AwSV).

General installation requirements According to AwSV, systems have to prevent leakage of waterpolluting substances. Systems have to be tight, stable and sufficiently resistant against mechanical, thermal and chemical loads to be expected. Any leakage has to be identified quickly and reliably and leaking substances have to be retained. Operating-related occurring drip losses must be collected. The systems have to be installed on a suitably firm surface. A collision buffer is to be provided as necessary. In the event of a malfunction, leakages must be withheld and disposed of correctly. For double-walled containers, no collection trays are required. Otherwise, the following applies: Mixtures potentially containing water-polluting substances leaking in case of damage have to be retained. The collection capacity of the storage space has to correspond to the maximum volume of the substances that may leak in case of malfunctions.
Installation For systems with fire-resistant fluids, no clearances to buildings are required. For systems with flammable fluids, a clearance of 10 m to buildings has to be observed if these are not sufficiently protected against fire (F90 according to DIN 4102). In case of indoor installation, walls, ceilings and doors have to consist of non-flammable materials. Between storage spaces and neighbouring rooms, fire-resistant (F90 according to DIN 4102) partitions are required. Ventilation has to permanently ensure at least 5-fold air exchange. Inspection according to AwSV According to AwSV, systems of hazard level B-D inside and outside of water protection areas require inspection prior to commissioning. Recurring inspection every five years for: ›› Hazardous level facilities C and D, in protected areas B to D ›› Level B facilities, in protected areas A Local authorities may specify further requirements. In the case of systems for flammable liquids (ELH-fluids), the inspection in accordance with the ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) must also be observed. Operation Storage containers may only be filled via a fixed pipeline connection with overfill protection. (Containers with a capacity of up to 25 m³ litres are an exception and may also be filled via an automatically closing discharge nozzle). Rietberg collection containers with filling funnel may be intermittently filled with low volumes without overfill protection. Operating-related occurring drip losses must be collected. Obligations of the operator The operator is required to prepare a system description with monitoring, servicing and alarm schemes for definition of operating instructions specifying all measures required for operation. Rietberg containers do not require maintenance. However, containers and equipment have to be regularly checked for potential damage. The system may only be operated in proper condition. The leakage indicator and potential overfill protection require inspection according to the operating instructions.

In order to enable a lateral disposal, waste liquids which occur during production or a work process are to be collected in a secure and practical manner and stored intermediately. As it is the case with the storage of used liquids, depending on the protection objective, regulations with respect to occupational safety, fire and explosion safety or environmental protection (water, air) apply to the storage of waste liquids. The various laws and related regulations and technical rules shall all be observed at the same time. Rietberg collection containers were designed specifically for the collection and storage of water-polluting and/or flammable liquid waste substances. The meet the requirements of all relevant provisions applicable to the storage of such liquids. Here, it does not matter whether the liquid is “only” water-polluting (e.g. KSS emulsion) or also heavily (e.g. waste oil) or lightly (e.g. cleaning petrol) flammable.
Rietberg collection containers comprise a filling hopper, via which the waste liquid can be filled directly into the container from smaller containers. Additionally, the filling can be provided via a firmly connected pipeline or a suction line. Rietberg collection containers provide a legally compliant, secure and appropriate solution for every application. They are available in cubic or cylindrical design and in sizes of 250 to 10000 litres of volume. Small containers are also available in an “in-house mobile” version This means that, if required, they can be directly transported to the locations in which the waste liquids occur. The surface design depends on the application and the medium to be stored. Completely, i.e. internally and externally, hot-dip galvanized containers, painted containers or containers made of 100% stainless steel are available. Additionally, containers with special interior coating, e.g. with an acid-resistant rubber coating, can be delivered.

For adjustment to structural conditions like the utilization of recesses, multi-collectors are available with a variable jacket height between 530 mm and 1500 mm. With a constant surface area, the total height and the capacity of the container are adjusted. The container height up to the upper base is defined by the jacket height +100 mm and the total container height (closed funnel cover top edge) by the jacket height +350 mm. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTAINERS FOR DISPOSAL (GERMANY) The requirements for installation of storage containers for water-polluting, non-flammable substances, fire-resistant (formerly technical rules for flammable fluids TRbF AIII) and flammable fluids (ELH-fluids. formerly flammable fluids class AI, AII and B) are defined for Germany in the ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) of the technical rules for operating safety (TRBS) and the ordinance on Installations for the Handling of Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV). The Vd-TÜV datasheet 967 for fuel systems is regarded as the state of the art and is to be observed. Building and fire protection regulations may also be applicable.
According to Germany ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV), storage of fluids with a flash point above 55 °C does not require any approval. According to the BetrSichV, an approval is required for storage of more than 450 litres of flammable liquids. Installations for storage of flammable liquids with a total capacity of more than 10,000 litres require monitoring. According to the German ordinance on Installations for the Handling of Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV) specifies a reporting requirement for above-ground systems as of hazard level B. The hazard level is defined by the water hazard class of the storage medium and the storage capacity (table of AwSV).

General installation requirements According to AwSV, systems have to prevent leakage of waterpolluting substances. Systems have to be tight, stable and sufficiently resistant against mechanical, thermal and chemical loads to be expected. Any leakage has to be identified quickly and reliably and leaking substances have to be retained. Operating-related occurring drip losses must be collected. The systems have to be installed on a suitably firm surface. A collision buffer is to be provided as necessary. In the event of a malfunction, leakages must be withheld and disposed of correctly. For double-walled containers, no collection trays are required. Otherwise, the following applies: Mixtures potentially containing water-polluting substances leaking in case of damage have to be retained. The collection capacity of the storage space has to correspond to the maximum volume of the substances that may leak in case of malfunctions.
Installation For systems with fire-resistant fluids, no clearances to buildings are required. For systems with flammable fluids, a clearance of 10 m to buildings has to be observed if these are not sufficiently protected against fire (F90 according to DIN 4102). In case of indoor installation, walls, ceilings and doors have to consist of non-flammable materials. Between storage spaces and neighbouring rooms, fire-resistant (F90 according to DIN 4102) partitions are required. Ventilation has to permanently ensure at least 5-fold air exchange. Inspection according to AwSV According to AwSV, systems of hazard level B-D inside and outside of water protection areas require inspection prior to commissioning. Recurring inspection every five years for: ›› Hazardous level facilities C and D, in protected areas B to D ›› Level B facilities, in protected areas A Local authorities may specify further requirements. In the case of systems for flammable liquids (ELH-fluids), the inspection in accordance with the ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) must also be observed. Operation Storage containers may only be filled via a fixed pipeline connection with overfill protection. (Containers with a capacity of up to 25 m³ litres are an exception and may also be filled via an automatically closing discharge nozzle). Rietberg collection containers with filling funnel may be intermittently filled with low volumes without overfill protection. Operating-related occurring drip losses must be collected. Obligations of the operator The operator is required to prepare a system description with monitoring, servicing and alarm schemes for definition of operating instructions specifying all measures required for operation. Rietberg containers do not require maintenance. However, containers and equipment have to be regularly checked for potential damage. The system may only be operated in proper condition. The leakage indicator and potential overfill protection require inspection according to the operating instructions.

FUEL SYSTEM KA 7500 Storage tank with a capacity of 7,500 litres stored in a maritime container. Thanks to reinforcements in the floor of the container, the system can be relocated in an empty state. Since the system has been installed in a harbour, the version has been implemented with a corresponding level of ruggedness. Relocation is required e.g. in the event of a possible flooding of the harbour area. The system has been equipped and delivered in an operationally ready state.

Double-walled design, hot-dip galvanised on the inside and outside; additionally, the design is suitable for erection in freezing zones with temperatures of down to -20°C. The tank is explosion-proof to withstand explosions on the inside. The connections on the dome cover are designed with flanges as requested by the customer. The tank is erected in the explosion zone, at a blowout of a gas pipeline. For the double-wall, in addition to the local indicator, a sensor for the remote evaluation of the double-wall condition is installed.
