We are 5 Minutes south of Minnedosa or twenty minutes North of Brandon.
Welcome to the 4th Annual Ranchers Select Simmental bull sale. 2023 marks a special year for us as we are currently in our 40th calving season raising Simmental seedstock. The cattle we run now are a lot different than they were in 1983 but its funny how you still chase structurally sound, productive traits that we always have. In 40 years we have sold hundreds of bulls, mainly to commercial cattlemen and hopefully they have helped them improve there own cow herds. We feel that this years bull pen will help do that as well as any we have offered. In the comments I talk a lot about Calving ease, maternal qualities and growth and we try to make sure all of our bulls have a blend of all of those things. New this year is a sprinkling of September born long yearlings that have more maturity to help them thrive in real beef production conditions. More Sim/Angus percentage bulls are also on offer that boast a high level of vigour and easy doing traits. In the comments I have tried to point out the attributes each bull has that you are searching for in your next herd sire. Here’s a pretty cool calf in my mind. He’s got the look of a herd bull in the making, being a little more rugged than some and not as refined; also he’s got that baldy face which he should pass down to his offspring. He came into this world at a whopping 72lbs and has come along very nicely out of a first calf heifer to compete with his contemperaries. Trace him back on the bull side; a WLB baldy bull back to one of Bill’s most productive cows, the JFRS 43y cow as well as EI Tigre. We purchased his mother from Lonestar in the 2021 Shade’s sale; talking to Nick he is very impressed with his 337H calves as we are with this guy. Heifer pen approved! A pretty impressive True North bull; a bull who has paved his own way in the industry thus far for Wheatland and numerous other outfits that used him in their A.I programs. We are very impressed with our True North calves. This fella is a no brainer for calving ease, with a whopping 60lb birth weight and backed by the likes of Cobra, Shear Force and Club King. On the maternal side it’s very apparent at our place how good it works with numerous females in our herd. Good udders is a stand out in this cow family. 69K is a soggy made, thick haired and deep bull; just as his mother. The Prairie Wind cow is one we picked up from Wes in the 2020 Shades of the Prairies sale. She’s a Honky Tonk female; I’ve always wanted to get my hands on atleast one of them. I know Wes spoke highly of the bull himself and the footprint he left at his place. This guys mother has done a good job for us thus far, retaining her first heifer calf to put back into the cow herd and now this guy as a second calver. With a modest 88lb birth weight and a C.E # over 10 he should work in any scenario whether it be heifers or cows. He’s not big but he is mighty! Take a look at this fella; he is a very moderate framed calf who is proportionate in every way. He is as thick and stout as you are going to find. His width and depth of quarter along with the amount of spring of rib he has is impeccable. He has the nice clean head and front as his other Style brothers alike. If you are looking to make a solid, soggy set of steer calves to sell this guy might be just what you’re looking for. Out of a first calving Centerfire daughter, with a 76lb birth weight and a 10.7 for calving ease I would feel quite comfortable turning him into the heifer pen without worry. Here’s a fairly rare to find black Oakview Centerfire son. A bull with over & above EPD’s for weaning weight and yearling weight which comes without saying out of the power packed Centerfire bull. I don’t like to be repetitious but the consistency that the Centerfire bull has left us in both genders is as good as you’ll find. If you want in on these proven genetics going back to the Kopp Bengie 6P cow, grab hold. It comes with great sadness we mysteriously lost the 139C bull this winter; so this will be his second last calves to step foot on the ground. Here’s a bull out of our walking Mountain bull; the only chance to own one of them this year, and Centerfire on the bottom side. He’s a combination of calving ease and performance. A nice made bull that has had a lot of friends in the pen since the beginning. A bull that is known around here for his docility. He stands on an excellent set of feet and legs and moves with ease. Mothered by the 23E cow, a picture perfect cow in my mind for the way she’s made, udder quality, and the calves she raises always rise to the top; one of the most productive ones. So this bull will last the duration, it’s bred in. The 23E cow is a bull maker she has had three bulls in four of the Rancher’s select sales so the proofs there. He has a Beef King brother working for Grant Bradley of Esterhazy, SK & an Absolute brother working for Diamond J Simmentals of Battleford, SK. She laid down and had another ripping good Copperhead bull calf the other day so look forward to him in the 2024 sale. She is always at the top of the calving list and fertile to A.I. King is a pretty interesting calf to say the least. He is out of our Hercules bull we bought out of the Indian River sale a few years ago. He’s a Savage son, and walks the pastures here as one of our calving ease sires. We have been impressed with the way his calves come and the consistency in type and kind in them. His red colour must come as a genetic throw back as he is out of a black blaze bull and a black cow. He sports an 11.3 calving ease number and just over 90lbs for a birth weight. You have to realize his mother is a big cow backed by sound performance. If you analyze this bull you will see how straight he is in his lines and how tidy he is upfront. Again one of the smoothest moving bulls & backed by the Paris 47y cow on the bottom side there is no guesswork here. His mother 68D has raised us nothing but good saleable females sold to breeders or retained in our own herd. Power! Power! Power! If your looking for a red cow bull you’ve found him. This guy is packed full of growth and performance. He along with his sire and dam are above average when it comes to frame score which will make his calves push down hard on the scales. Again there won’t be many more chances to own a Centerfire son as we lost the big guy. Check out his weaning weight and yearling weight numbers of 84 and 130+, if that doesn’t put the pounds on I don’t know what will. On the cow side of things, he’s out of a nice second calver we bought from Mar Mac in the 2020 Keystone Konnection sale. If your wanting a bull with a bit of a genetic twist look to the cow side where you’ll find some older genetics with the likes of Red Iron and others. Our high gainer between weaning and yearling weights with no warm up doing 5.0lbs/day.This guy will not disappoint when weighing in his pen of calves. Homo polled test pending.

Here’s a lighter coloured red baldy bull, son of our Cobra walking bull; with a perfectly painted bald face. If you need a bull true to placing a white face on his offspring check this guy out. Blaze face on the sire side, out of a baldy face cow and white faced granddam. Maternally you’ll see this guy trace back to the Toblerone 210T bull that left us many good productive females in the herd and some we shared with fellow breeders. Having said that, it is not surprising his milk number is above average. In last years sale we sold a half brother to this guy out of Red Heat to Zachedniak Simmentals in Roblin, MB where AJ was impressed with his performance thus far. Homo polled test pending.

A dark cherry red bull out of again another great Oakview Centerfire daughter. Heifer pen approved is non negotiable with this guy; 88lb birth weight, a 15.1 C.E EPD putting him in the top 2% for calving ease in the breed and top 10% for birth weight! Take the time to look this guy over, not only are his numbers right but if you go back to the old school way of finding a heifer bull; he’s got it all! This bull is made right too; with a tapered front end & nice small head, smooth over the shoulders, and all his lines and angles align. All that while still maintaining a tick above average on weaning and yearling weight numbers. 59K is another red Centerfire son out of a red Cobra daughter who ranks at the top of the herd for productivity, type and kind and udder structure. He’s got that dark red hair coat you could go in any direction with as far as stamping his calves. Lots of stretch and grow to this guy while at the same time maintaining a nice set of feet and legs to make him an easy mover. Again a bull that could definitely add weight to his calf crop. Kingsway is a horned bull weighing in at 1033lbs. the heaviest of this year’s sale bulls. He comes from a very consistent cow family which raised two high sellers for me in last year’s sale. He has a wide topline, lots of depth, with a good hindquarter. His mother is a moderate framed cow who milks well, has good length, spring of rib, is easy keeping and has a great disposition. Kinross was raised by a 10-year-old cow who is due to calve again in February. She is a moderate framed cow that started one of the most reliable cow families in the herd. Antrim Kilrea is a polled bull and is the youngest bull in these years offering. He will only be a year old by sale day but he has kept up with his pen mates. TERMS:
The terms of the sale are cash, cheque, and wire transfers, payable at par at the sale location unless satisfactory payment arrangements have been made prior to the sale with seller, buyer and Bohrson Marketing Services. Bohrson Marketing Services reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Payment in full must be made before cattle can be released and shipped. Exchange rates will be announced sale day and the sale will be held in Canadian funds.
BIDDING:
All animals to sell through the sale must be sold by auction with each animal selling to the highest bidder. Private sales will not be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted.
DISPUTES:
In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in the dispute. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid and the auctioneer’s decision will be final.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Any announcement from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.
LIABILITIES:
All persons attend the sale at the their own risk.
CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY:
A registration certificate issued by the applicable breed association and a certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after final payment has been made.
