DEAR FRIENDS: Last year, despite the challenges and hardships facing higher education, YOUR UNIVERSITY was blessed to continue moving forward thanks to your faithful courage. High Point University has students from all 50 states and 56 countries across the globe. We now have over 5,600 students, including 1,000 enrolled in our graduate programs.

The most gratifying reward comes when we give not because we have to, not because someone asks us to, not because we owe it, but rather out of hearts filled with gratitude.

Growth in STEM-related professional fields continue in our $350 million Innovation Corridor with the School of Dental Medicine and Oral Health led by Dr. Scott De Rossi, Founding Dean. In Fall 2022, we welcome our first nursing cohort under the guidance of Dr. Racquel Ingram, founding chair for the Department of Nursing. We are exploring new academic schools in law, nursing and optometry, and expect to launch a new doctor of medical sciences degree with Dr. Linda Sekhon as founding chair.

In September, we opened the world-class arena and conference center, which features a 30-room hotel named for Jana and Ken Kahn. In 2025, we plan to open a new four-story state-of-the-art library with 160,000 square feet of textbooks, digital databases and private study spaces for students. The space will house an art gallery featuring historical artifacts and our expanding collection of artwork provided by generous donors. Just this year, nine new global leaders have been added to our Access to Innovators Series, from whom our students will learn lessons in leadership and discover the art of the possible.

You have much to be proud of as investors in this 97-year-old God, Family, and Country institution.

President’s Circle Honor Roll of Donors Philanthropic partnerships with our alumni, families and friends have been a cornerstone of High Point University’s success. Each fall, leadership supporters are recognized in the President’s Circle Honor Roll publication for the preceding fiscal year.

In the pages that follow, you will find the names of the individuals, foundations and corporations who have supported this 97-year-old institution over the duration of a lifetime with gifts in excess of $100,000, and on an annual basis with contributions of $1,924 or more, between June 1, 2020 and May 31, 2021.

High Point University also celebrates the gifts of those who have chosen to invest through the Sterling Society with a planned gift, and HPU’s most dedicated alumni who have given three or more consecutive years (some of whom have exceeded 30 or more years) through the League of Loyal Alumni.

Receiving a scholarship as a rising sophomore was an answer to my prayers. My scholarship has allowed me to continue my education at HPU at a time when I thought I might not be able to return. Previously, I only had time for classes and work. Now, I continue to work but I can give myself time to get involved with clubs and other activities.

NIDO AND MARIANA QUBEIN ARENA AND CONFERENCE CENTER AND KAHN HOTEL The Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center, and the adjoining Jana and Ken Kahn Hotel, form a multipurpose hub of experiential learning and community fellowship. The four-story, 300,000-square-foot facility gleams with windows that span from top-to-bottom in the main lobby, which features a grand staircase. It’s clear that this project – a total of $170 million invested – has energy surging through it.

On any given day, you’ll find HPU’s most expansive building project providing an inspiring environment capable of hosting more than 7,000 people within the broad spectrum of facilities contained within its walls.

The New Home for HPU Basketball A new era for Panther pride begins for HPU’s men’s and women’s basketball programs. The Tubby and Donna Smith Court is the hardwood home where the Panthers take on NCAA Division I opponents from across the country.

An Adaptable Conference Center for Engaged Learning With capacity to seat 1,500 visitors and flexibility to subdivide the elegant space into smaller rooms, HPU faculty and students will host and participate in academic conferences, guest lecturers and many other cultural enrichment opportunities. Large video monitors are visible throughout, with state-of-the-art presentation equipment.

A grand space that symbolizes the transformational contributions of the people for whom the building is named, the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center is a unique and highly relevant facility designed to educate, enlighten and inspire.

High Point University’s transformational growth plan continues with the announcement of two new facilities on campus. Each of these is part of HPU’s $1 billion, 10-year growth plan that was announced by President Nido R. Qubein in September 2019. These future plans have created countless opportunities to get involved and show your support for the growth of the university. These opportunities allow for you to leave your mark at HPU, honoring and creating a legacy for your family or loved ones. Investing in transformational growth helps broaden the impact our university has on students, families and the High Point community.

HEALTH FACILITY High Point University shared plans to establish a new School of Dental Medicine and Oral Health, which will be the only dental school at a private university in the state of North Carolina. To house the School of Dental Medicine and Oral Health, the University will build a new facility on International Avenue. Investments in the program will total $150 million.

The new academic school, led by Dr. Scott De Rossi, will be the University’s tenth, and the seventh established since Dr. Nido Qubein became HPU president. The proposed Doctor of Dental Medicine degree program, pending SACSCOC and Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) approval, will enroll its first class in Fall 2023. At full capacity, the highly competitive and prestigious program will bring 180 new students to campus.

Dr. De Rossi will serve as the founding dean of the School of Dental Medicine and Oral Health. Prior to joining HPU, De Rossi served as professor and dean at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry.

LIBRARY

LIBRARY In February 2021, plans for a new $80 million library were announced. Located next to Hayworth Park, the facility will provide study space for students.

The four-story facility will be 160,000 square feet of textbooks, digital databases, private study space and an art gallery featuring historical artifacts and displays of HPU’s expanding collection of artwork provided through the generosity of donors. It will feature the Library of Congress Classification System and become the main library on campus, supplemented by several existing satellite libraries.

INAUGURAL STRICKLAND TRAILBLAZER NAMED The Strickland Trailblazer Award, established by Elizabeth Miller Strickland, recognizes a trailblazing female who is a graduating senior with a monetary award intended to assist her with the transition from academia to life after High Point University. The Strickland Trailblazer epitomizes the qualities of hard work, passion for charitable and community service, perseverance and determination that define the life and legacy of Mrs. Strickland.

Brooke Smith ’21, was named the inaugural winner of the Strickland Trailblazer Award. Smith, a biology and exercise science double major from Evergreen, Colorado, is enrolled in medical school at Uniformed Services University and plans on becoming a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Throughout the application process, Smith was praised for her hard work, dedication to service and leadership.

“There were a lot of people that I have looked up to throughout my time at High Point and when I saw someone do something incredible that I was amazed by, it made me think about how I can make myself more like them. I am not the person I was when I came to the university because of all the opportunities I have had. Learn from your mentors, work together because you cannot do it alone, and take it one day at a time to make the world a better place. Thank you, Mrs. Strickland, for not only choosing to empower other women, but also for the legacy you represent and giving me the opportunity to carry that on.”
