Won’t you take me to…Hymietown? by Robert (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 6:09:50 AM

Won’t you take me to…Hymietown? After Hamas-linked CAIR has enlisted that noted apostle of sensitivity and mutual respect, Jesse “Hymietown” Jackson, in its latest (and most frenzied) smear campaign against me, Roger L. Simon and Andrew C. McCarthy weigh in: From “Real Blog War: CAIR Goes After Robert Spencer,” by Roger L. Simon at Pajamas Media, August 9: Actually, I apologize for making a joke about something that is far more serious than that. As has been detailed here and on PJTV, our own government has banned the use of the very Islamic terminology whose doctrine and provenance Spencer had the bravery to explain to those FBI agents. He told me on the phone that the agents received him well too. That’s good news. CAIR, not surprisingly, doesn’t see it my way. To them, Spencer — and all of those who are trying to educate us about the dangers of jihadism — is anathema. They have written FBI Director Robert Mueller to demand an explanation why such a man — the member of a “hate group” — had been allowed to speak to FBI agents and to receive the director’s assurance that such a horrible thing would never happen again. In keeping with our contemporary fixation, they want Mueller to apologize. CAIR has even enlisted that noted expert on Islamic studies, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, in their cause. (I know. You’re shocked.) From “Director Mueller, Say No to CAIR,” by Andrew C. McCarthy in National Review, August 10: At this point, the question about CAIR should be: Why does anyone care? Care about anything CAIR officials say, that is. The notorious Council on AmericanIslamic Relations is back up to its old tricks. CAIR officials figure our tenminute attention span has lapsed, and that we’ve probably forgotten by now that, in the 2007-08 prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) —

a case in which several Islamists were convicted in a scheme that poured millions of dollars into the coffers of the terrorist organization Hamas — CAIR was named as, and shown to be, an unindicted co-conspirator. CAIR reckons that the heat is off, so it’s back on the “Islamophobia” soapbox, demanding an apology from FBI director Robert Mueller. An apology for what? The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Forces had the temerity to invite Robert Spencer — one of the nation’s leading experts on Islamist ideology — to lecture federal agents on Islamist ideology. Spencer’s lecture departed from the government’s “religion of peace” dogma, which holds that there is no Islamist aggression, that there is no civilizational jihad to destroy the West from within (never mind that CAIR’s progenitor, the Muslim Brotherhood, has bragged about its “sabotage” campaign), and that terrorism is not merely unconnected to Islam but, in fact, is anti-Islamic. According to this thinking, Islamist groups like CAIR have a monopoly on what Americans — including American law-enforcement and intelligence agents — are permitted to hear about Islam from academic, media, and government sources. No dissenting views are permitted, no matter how steeped the dissenters may be in Islamic doctrine and no matter how much these dissents accord with what your lyin’ eyes are seeing. [...] CAIR’s purpose is to further what the Muslim Brotherhood calls its “grand jihad” to destroy America from within. That is why it is consistently a cheerleader for Islamist terrorists and a thorn in the side of American national security, opposing every sensible measure to protect our homeland. “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant,” Ahmad is quoted as saying in 1998. “The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.” A key tactic in carrying out this supremacist agenda is to suppress its

critics. With their media acumen, CAIR operatives know there is nothing more debilitating for a public figure in America than to be portrayed as a racist or a bigot. Islamists have thus coined the phrase “Islamophobe” to stigmatize those who dare speak forthrightly about the extremely troubling aspects of Islamic scripture, particularly of sharia, Islam’s legal and political framework. We are not, it bears emphasizing, speaking about people who lie about Islam or smear all Muslims as terrorists. Islamists are targeting the truth-tellers. If they can intimidate their critics into silence, they have inched yet closer to the goal of supplanting our First Amendment with their sharia, which condemns as “blasphemy” any speech or expression that casts Islam in a poor light. Blasphemy can be savagely punished — and, in contrast to the Western idea of defamation, truth is no defense. Thus is CAIR trying to intimidate the FBI into ostracizing Robert Spencer. As he demonstrates daily at Jihad Watch, the invaluable site he founded, he is effective and immune to Islamist scare tactics. Because Spencer won’t quiet down, CAIR officials have concluded that it will be necessary to have the U.S. government silence him. They know the government, the FBI in particular, has a history of being overly solicitous toward Islamist apologists. They are banking on getting satisfaction out of Mueller, and they’ve brought out the big guns to turn up the heat. Their letter has now been signed by Grievance Industry eminence Jesse Jackson (who better to give sensitivity lessons than the guy who labeled New York City “Hymietown”?) and by such groups as the Islamic Society of North America (another unindicted coconspirator in the Hamas case, but one for which Obama-administration majordomo Valerie Jarrett nonetheless gave the keynote address at its 2009 annual convention). If any party is owed an apology or explanation from our government, it is the American people — over the

government’s courtship of CAIR. For years, even though the Justice Department was in possession of information showing the key role CAIR officials played in the Muslim Brotherhood’s Hamas-support network, government agencies, including the FBI, continued turning to CAIR for “liaison” duties. Top brass forced our law-enforcement agents to endure CAIR-prescribed sensitivity training, and, in the case of the Department of Homeland Security, even published a CAIR press release on an agency’s taxpayer -funded website, enabling CAIR to pass itself off as a civil-rights organization. This went on until finally, following the convictions in the HLF case (to say nothing of the emerging indications that CAIR itself may be under investigation), the FBI cut off ties with the group in 2009, citing its Hamas connections. That was a stand for which Mueller won strong bipartisan praise on Capitol Hill. Here’s hoping he sticks to his guns. GiftsFromTheHolyLand.com Presents a Tour of The Old City Of Jerusalem!!! | about jerusalem by paraisrael (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 4:20:12 AM

by_ambrown GiftsFromTheHolyLand.com Presents a Tour of The Old City Of Jerusalem!!! Dear readers; Jerusalem Jerusalem is a religious center sacred to all three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. & History about The GATES of “JERUSALEM” Religious pilgrims from all nations continue to congregate in the Holy City and millions of people flow through the gates of Jerusalem each year. References to the city of Jerusalem appear throughout the entire Scriptures. The Scriptural history of Jerusalem (known then as “Salem”), begins when Abraham meets “Melchizedek” (King of Justice) about 2000 BC. Through the ages it has been called by many names: Urusalim, Salem, Mount Moriah, Adonai Urah, Jebus, Jerusalem, Zion, the City of David, Ariel (Lion of God) God has declared that this is the place He will establish His Name and will dwell there forever. David conquered Jerusalem by defeating the Jebusites in 1052 BCE Chronicles 1 11:4-9), nearly 3000 years ago. In history, No other city has been beloved and fought over as Jerusalem. After David’s death, Solomon (in 1015 BC/BCE) began to “build a house for the Name of the Lord” (Chronicles 2 2:1). It took seven years and 183,300 men to build it (Kings 1- 5:13-16; 6:38). It measured nearly 90 feet in length, 30 feet in width and 45 feet in height (1 Kings 6:2). The Holy Of Holies occupied one-third of the interior space, and the Holy Place, two-thirds. The complete details are described in Kings 1 – 6 & 7. When it was completed, the Glory of God filled the Temple (Chronicles 2 7:1). Israel was divided after Solomon’s death (979 BCE). The kingdom of Israel was in the north, while Judah was in the south. Jerusalem was the capital of Judah (the Southern Kingdom). It was to be ruled by a succession of twenty kings from 979 BCE to 586 BCE. Their reigns lasted from as short as three months (Jehoahaz and Jehoiachim) to as long as fifty-five years (Manasseh). The disheartening history of the declines of Judah is told in Kings 1 12:1-2, Kings 25:30, and 2 Chronicles 10:1-36:21. Jerusalem was entirely destroyed by

Nebuchadnezzar in 586 BC/BCE. The city and the Holy Temple were completely demolished and the articles of the Temple and its treasures were carried off to Babylon. The inhabitants that were not killed were also taken to Babylon. Jerusalem was to lie desolate for seventy years in order that the land might enjoy its Sabbaths (Chronicles 2 36:17-21/Leviticus 26:34). Seventy-one years later (445 BCE) In 539 BCE, Cyrus, king of Persia issued a proclamation to rebuild the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, a total of 42,360 people returned to Jerusalem and Judah to help rebuild the Temple, not including male and female servants and the musicians. All gave according to their ability, in order to finance the work. In the first year, during the month of year, Jeshua and Zerubbabel led a group to build the altar in order to offer sacrifices in accordance with Torah. It was finally completed in 516 BCE and took twenty-three years. In 167 BCE the Greeks converted the Temple in Jerusalem into a show place to Greek idols In 40 BCE the Romans being the super power of that time dispatched an army of 30,000 infantry and 6,000 cavalry to take Jerusalem. Jerusalem and its Temple were incinerated. When Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire under Constantine, the basilica of the Holy Sepulchre was built in Jerusalem, the most important and prominent building in the city at the time. During the Byzantine era (330-640 CE) many impressive Christian architectural monuments were built in the city. Jerusalem was a major Christian center, attracting pilgrims from all over the Roman Empire. Monks and clergy from the various sects started to settle in the city, and pilgrims from different countries filled Jerusalem’s streets: Ethiopians and Armenians, Copts and Nestorians, Syrian Jacobites and Gregorians and, above all, GreekOrthodox, who became the dominant Christian group in the city. At the end of the 11th century, Seljuk tribes invaded the country. The city passed from one ruler to another until the arrival of the Crusaders who ruled about two hundred years (10951187) CE and again after a brief period, from (1189-1348). Christian Crusaders order in Jerusalem was extremely brutal, especially at the beginning of the period, and the domination of the city was accompanied by a massacre of most of the Jews and Moslems residing there. Jerusalem has been fought over by armies of the Assyrians, Babylonians,

Egyptians, Greeks, Ptolemies, Seleucids, Romans, Byzantines,Persians, Arabs, Seljuks, Crusaders, Mongols, Mamelukes, Turks, British, Jordanians, Egyptians, Syrians, Lebanese, and Iraqis. Today the nations of the entire world consider it their responsibility and obligation to intervene in her politics and destiny. This is a city that has been besieged about forty different times and destroyed (at least partially) on thirtytwo different occasions. The rulership of Jerusalem has changed hands some twenty-six times. From the time of the establishment of the State of Israel in May of 1948 until 1967, the city was divided. Walls, barbed-wire fences and a desolated strip of nonman’s land cut through the very heart of the city, especially excluding the Jews from the Old City and the Temple Mount. During that time the Jewish Quarter was leveled and its synagogues burned. Jewish graves and monuments were desecrated or turned into latrines, Since 1948 Jerusalem has experienced four wars. Jerusalem, “The City of Peace” has known wars and destruction since it existence was first known to us from the Biblical record. Today, Jerusalem is more of a city of religion, art, culture, and museums than an economically viable regional marketplace or a center of business activity. Yet Jerusalem thrives in our time as a city full of mystical attractiveness and endless fascination. Jerusalem has played, and will continue to play, an important part in God’ deliverance of the earth, His Holy City, and our involvement in it. Jerusalem became the birthplace of Christianity in the first century CE**, one thousand years after David. As the location of both the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Jerusalem is also referred to as the Holy City of this faith. While Constantine spread Christianity throughout the Roman Empire in the 4th century, the Christian desire to

reclaim the Holy Land from the infidels arose a millennium after the Crucifixion, when the Crusaders slaughtered and exiled both Muslims and Jews. Christian reign of the city lasted approximately 100 years until the Muslims led by Saladin finally recaptured Jerusalem. Nasrallah claims Israel murdered Hariri, Hezbullah captured Israeli drone by Carl in Jerusalem (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 5:18:00 AM

Nasrallah claims Israel murdered Hariri, Hezbullah captured Israeli drone Hezbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah gave a speech on Monday night in which, as expected, he blamed Israel for the murder of Lebanese President Rafik Hariri. Nasrallah blamed Israel for first attempting to open a rift between the Sunni supporters of Hariri and the Shi’ite Hizbullah in 1993 by telling Hariri that Hizbullah was attempting to have him killed. The Hizbullah head continued his story of Israeli duplicity, telling reporters that in 1996 Hizbullah forces arrested Ahmed Nasrallah (no relation) a Lebanese agent working for Israel who had contacted Hariri’s security apparatus on Israel’s orders telling them that he worked closely with Imad Mugniyeh, then head of Hizbullah’s military wing, and that he had information regarding a Hizbullah plan to kill Hariri. Hassan Nasrallah stated that the Lebanese security forces later freed the alleged Israeli agent who, he said, fled to Israel in 2000, where he remains until today. Nasrallah played for journalists a video clip of the alleged agent confessing to working for Israel and attempting to warn Hariri about a Hizbullah assassination attempt. “This is how the Israelis from the beginning placed into everyone’s minds this conspiracy [that Hizbullah killed Hariri],” said Hassan Nasrallah. Nasrallah also claimed to have murdered 12 Israeli commandos in 1997: Nasrallah also discussed at the press conference a 1997 incident in which 12 IDF naval commando soldiers were killed on a secret mission in Lebanon, saying “we set up a trap for them.” “We assumed that Israel was going to act. Our people waiting a few weeks, and on one of the nights, the commando soldiers came…and fell into the trap that we prepared,” Nasrallah said. He presented photographs taken from an unarmed IAF aircraft, which Hizbullah recovered before attacking the commandos. Israeli officials dismissed the speech before it was ever made. “They are looking for a way out,” an

official in the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said a day before the address. “When they start casting for straws like this, it just shows the degree of pressure they are under.” “This is completely ridiculous and … everyone knows it,” the official told The Jerusalem Post newspaper. But the JPost omits what may be the most important part of Nasrallah’s speech. Nasrallah claimed more about that 1997 incident than the death of 12 Israeli soldiers (Hat Tip: Elder of Ziyon). “The secret I want to reveal tonight is that before 1997, Hezbollah was able to catch an Israeli spy plane photographing South Lebanon and sending them to an Israeli operations center,” Sayyed Nasrallah went on to say. “Before 1997, the Resistance managed to capture the transmission of an MK drone and we managed to access this transmission which enabled us of capturing the images transmitted by the drone as the enemy’s operation room was receiving them,” Hezbollah Secretary General explained. “The capturing of the MK drone images by the Resistance’s operation room led to the foiling of the enemy’s amphibious assault on Ansariyeh on September 5, 1997,” Hezbollah Secretary General revealed, before showing details of the Ansariyeh operation and explaining how this tactic helped the Resistance fighters foil the Israeli attempt. … Hezbollah Secretary General then turned to the most sensitive part of the press conference: tangible proof showing the Israeli enemy carefully monitoring the movements of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and his

locations. In this regard, Sayyed Nasrallah unveiled footage intercepted from Israeli surveillance planes of the site of the 2005 murder of ex-Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri prior to his assassination. “Israeli drones had carefully monitored the movements of Hariri’s motorcade in Beirut and on the Farayya-Faqra road,” Sayyed Nasrallah pointed out. “Was that a coincidence?” his eminence wondered. “Such footage generally comes as the first leg of the execution of an operation.” Several clips, each minutes long and undated, showed aerial views of the coastline off west Beirut on various days prior to the Hariri assassination. “Are there any Hezbollah offices in these areas monitored by Israel? Why is Israel monitoring these locations?” Sayyed Nasrallah wondered. I can think of a lot of reasons why Israel might be monitoring those areas that may have little or nothing to do with Hezbullah. The idea that Israel killed Hariri is beyond ridiculous. But the better question – as pointed out by Elder – is whether Hezbullah did capture the encryption code for transmissions from Israeli spy planes and whether those codes changed between 1997 and 2005. I believe the answer to that question is that the codes did change and that Nasrallah’s undated videos are not from 2005. Israel’s first unmanned aerial vehicle squadron, called the 200 squadron, was operated from Palmachim air base beginning in 1971. The 200 squadron was established in 1971 to operate unmanned reconnaissance vehicles, the first of which were used in the Yom Kippur

War of 1973. The first aircraft of this squadron were remotely piloted vehicles (RPVs), which were replaced with upgraded, programmed autopilot aircraft known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in 1981. The first UAV was the IAI Scout (Zahavan), which was used in the 1982 Lebanon War. In 1992, the squadron began operating the IAI Searcher (Hugla), a new version of which was produced in 1998 and named the IAI Searcher Mk. II (Kochav Lavan). In 2005-2006 IAI Heron and Heron TP (Shoval and Eitan) added to the the squadron. Another UAV squadron was established in 2003, 166 squadron. This caused the old IAI Scout (Zahavan) UAVs to begin phase out from active duty within the IAF. The Ansariyeh incident did occur. The Israelis’ greatest blunder was the disastrous naval commando raid on the coastal village of Ansariyeh, 20 miles north of the zone, on 5 September in which 16 Israelis were killed in an ambush staged by Hizbollah guerrillas. Although the objective of the raid remains unclear it was nonetheless a very risky undertaking, suggesting possible over-confidence in the IDF and the security cabinet which sanctioned the operation. Israel Radio carried a rebuttal to Nasrallah’s claims about the drones from an IDF General on Tuesday. Nasrallah’s "evidence" that Israel murdered Hariri is a joke – but…. by Elder of Ziyon (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 4:19:00 AM

Yesterday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah went on TV for two hours, trying to spin a convoluted case that Israel was behind the assassination of Rafik Hariri. The most interesting parts of his speech were where he said that Hezbollah had captured an Israeli drone in 1997, and they managed to analyze it in order to capture IDF surveillance footage. He showed what looks like convincing aerial video footage of that failed 1997 assault. Al Manar has the speech on video here. Then he goes on to say that Hezbollah continued to capture video from Israeli drones up through at least 2005, and this footage supposedly shows that Israel was surveying the route that Rafik Hariri took when he was killed. Hezbollah Secretary General then turned to the most sensitive part of the press conference: tangible proof showing the Israeli enemy carefully monitoring the movements of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and his locations. In this regard, Sayyed Nasrallah unveiled footage intercepted from

Israeli surveillance planes of the site of the 2005 murder of ex-Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri prior to his assassination. The videos are undated, so if Hezbollah did capture drone videos for years then they pretty much have aerial video from the IDF over all of Lebanon. Nasrallah does make a convincing case that certain turns in a specific roads that Hariri supposedly used were videoed from various angles. Nasrallah also claimed to have evidence of exactly when Israeli planes were over Beirut on the day

that Hariri was assassinated, and that an Israeli spy was in the area. That’s pretty much his evidence. The evidence was far from convincing for at least some in Lebanon: Commenting on the evidence that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah presented during his 2 + hours press conference Elias Zoghbi told “BBC:” What has Nasrallah presented was a political case . This is not the kind of concrete and convincing evidence that we expected from him that will prove Israel was behind Hariri’s murder. Nasrallah ’s presentation was interesting …. he acted like a news anchor ” What I have not yet seen from Israel is any confirmation or denial that, for what may be years, Hezbollah was able to intercept Israeli drone transmissions. Clearly what Nasrallah showed indicated that Hezbollah captured video from multiple drones over a period of time. Some of the footage was in color. This would be an outrageous security failure on the part of the IDF. It is not difficult to encrypt transmissions in such a way that they would be virtually unbreakable. If the IDF didn’t change their methods of

transmission or their encryption after the 1997 drone capture, someone should be fired. Copenhagen: Incitement against the police by Esther (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 2:29:00 AM

Copenhagen: Incitement against the police The Copenhagen District West Police decide to increase security for ambulances, firetrucks and the police’s own patrol cars in the Ishøj suburb of Copenhagen. From now on police cars will accompany emergency vehicles(DA) when they go to certain housing estatees, especially around Ishøj Center. The windows of several police cars were smashed recently and a new Facebook group, Ishøj Ghetto, was set up to incite to vandalism against police cars. Police Inspector Ib Meng says that they’re trying to find out who’s behind the group. It’s a crime to directly incite to arson and vandalism. However, Ib Meng says that the situation in Ishøj had not heated up. Over 700 people joined the Facebook group. The group posted pictures of vandalized police cars and comments such as: “My bothers, you will destroy all the police cars who come close to Ishøj. It is our city.” “F**k the police and the state (…) In Ishøj people go around with guns and patrol the street. We don’t need the police.” ( DA, DA). Another message says: “In our right hand a grenade and in our left an AK47. We’re fighting for our town. We’re not afraid to die. We’ll protect our city to the death.” (photo, via Uriasposten) The members are on the site are both of Danish and immigrant origin, but the group’s organizers don’t hide where they’re coming from. “Soldier

of Allah, allahu Akbar !!!! Muslims stay together and be stronger.” [The comment is from way back in May] The Ishøj Ghetto group also made mention of the singer Medina, who was pelted with stones in the city a few months ago, and posted a picture of a burning Israeli flag. The media is also mentioned: “F**k the media. Keep out of Ishøj. You just want to make money or f*ck people’s lives up. We’re telling you for the last time: Keep away from Ishøj. We’l stone you out of Ishøj.” But more recently the group had a different message for the firefighters and ambulances: “You should not feel insecure when you drive in Ishøj. We don’t have a problem with you.” An anti-”Ishøj Ghetto” group(DA) was also set up. The new group says they tried to comment on the Ishøj Ghetto group page, but were just threatened and their comments were

removed. The “Ishøj Ghetto” group has since been removed. The site’s organizers say they want to see how many people in Denmark agree that the police aren’t just harassing young people and that if somebody feels persecuted by the police, there’s probably a good reason for the police persecuting him. Ib Meng says that they don’t have any information about threats against the emergency vehicles. It is the police’s decision to increase security. Meanwhile, police agents from the Funen police stopped a car with known criminals in Vollsmose (Odense) yesterday, but were then chased out of the neighborhood(DA) with rocks and bottles. When the police tried to stop the car, the driver continued driving until he reached a place where he knew he would get help, says the police. Two masked people were arrested, but the

police can’t link them to the stonethrowing and so they’re being charged for violating an official notice. Last Wednesday police were attacked with stones in Mjølnerparken in Nørrebro (Copenhagen). The head of the emergency services in the Copenhagen suburb of Greve, Henrik Hillestrøm, told Midtjyllands avis (via Uriasposten) that around 30 neighborhoods in Denmark have at time the same problem of youth vandalism, where the youth set fire in the streets in order to lure the fire brigade. There are 25-30 housing estates in Denmark with such a problem. Scotland: Integration easier for Muslims than in England by Esther (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 1:31:00 AM

Scotland: Integration easier for Muslims than in England Via BBC: Integration is easier for Muslims in Scotland than in England, new research has suggested. The poll, for the British Council Scotland, also found six out of 10 Scots believed Muslims were integrated into everyday Scottish life. However, it also found that Scots have a less favourable opinion of Muslims than other religious groups. And those who responded felt one of the barriers to adapting to Scottish life was the country’s drinking culture.

(…) Two-thirds (65%) of respondents had a favourable opinion towards Muslims – three times as many as those with an unfavourable opinion (21%). However, Muslims were viewed less favourably than any of the other religious groups asked about. The survey, carried out by Ipsos Mori, also found that 46% of those questioned think that Muslims living in Scotland were loyal to the country while 33% thought they were not. A total of 66% of Scots thought the attempted bombing of Glasgow Airport in July 2007 had made people in Scotland less tolerant of Muslims, while 48% thought Scotland would begin to lose its identity if more Muslims came to live there. Ehud Barak accepts responsibility for Gaza flotilla raid by Harriet Sherwood (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 6:27:37 AM

Israeli defence minister tells inquiry military were to blame for execution of operation which left nine activists dead Israel’s defence minister Ehud Barak today said he took “overall” responsibility for the deadly raid on the Gaza aid flotilla which resulted in the deaths of nine Turkish activists. However, he pointed the finger of blame at the military for the execution of the internationally condemned operation. Giving evidence on the second day of hearings held by the Turkel commission, the state-appointed panel investigating the operation, Barak said: “I carry overall responsibility for everything that took place in the systems under my command. I carry responsibility for the orders given on the political level.” However, he drew a distinction between political responsibility and the execution of the operation. “The politicians determined the ‘what’ and the IDF [Israel Defence Forces] worked out the ‘how’ – and the IDF carried out the operation.”

The military did not inform politicians about the details of the operational plan, said Barak. “They said, ‘It will be difficult to do it, but we will do it.’ They did not say how it should be done, and rightfully so. They said there would be distressing images but they did not say it couldn’t be done, and they even said the opposite.” He added: “If the decision was right, then the gap between what we wanted and what happened is the execution.” Barak, who has a long record of military service, told the hearing he had spent most of his life in operations. “The difference between success and complications is as thin as a strand of hair. Here, the goal of stopping the sail was achieved.” Barak said Israel’s inner cabinet had considered the military aspects of the operation. This was in contrast to prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s testimony yesterday, in which he said his inner cabinet, known as the group of seven, had only discussed public relations issues. According to Barak, the group, which met in the days running up to the flotilla’s arrival in international waters off the coast of Gaza, examined the overall situation and the dilemmas, “not only with the media aspects … but also with the military

aspects.” A draft of the operational plan was presented to the seven senior ministers. It covered intelligence assessments and a range of possible outcomes, including “extreme scenarios”, according to Barak. “A question was raised of what should be done in case of serious violence and shooting of RPG [rocket -propelled grenades] and machine guns and firing on our forces in the sea. We didn’t reach that discussion,” he said. The five-strong Turkel commission will hear evidence from Israel’s chief of staff, Lieutenant-General Gabi Ashkenazi, tomorrow. Many commentators in the Israeli press were critical of Netanyahu’s performance at the hearings yesterday, accusing him of lack of leadership. Nahum Barnea, a columnist for the mass circulation daily Yedioth Ahronoth, said the prime minister had shrugged off his responsibility. “[Netanyahu's] responsibility should have been shouldered fully and that should have been flaunted publicly … Leadership should have been shown.” • Gaza flotilla • Israel • Gaza • Middle East

Livni to testify in front of Turkel Commission? by Carl in Jerusalem (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 4:05:00 AM

Livni to testify in front of Turkel Commission? Former Foreign Minister and current opposition leader Tzipi Livni has asked to testify in front of the Turkel Commission, which is investigating the Mavi Marmara incident. Opposition Leader Tzipi Livni wrote a letter to retired justice Jacob Tuerkel on Monday, in which she asked to testify, of her own volition, before the judge’s panel investigating Israel’s interception of a Turkish flotilla trying to break the naval blockade of Gaza on May 31st. The former foreign minister and acting prime minister said she wanted to present the committee what she called all of the diplomatic and defense perspectives that led to the closure of Gaza which were not properly

addressed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in his testimony on Monday. Livni associates said, “In contrast to Netanyahu, who proved today that he removes all responsibility from himself and throws it at others af the moment of truth, Livni takes responsibility and wishes to appear before the committee.” And I’m sure that Livni’s intentions are pure as the driven snow…. posted by Carl in Jerusalem @ 2:05 PM Hija del Zion para Israel Support Israel

Performing at a synagogue in Tunisia is not without consequences by Suzanne (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 1:36:00 AM

The popular Tunisian singer Saleem Bakkoush has been forced to cancel a concert at the annual Carthage festival, after a video surfaced showing him performing at a synagogue. Mr Bakkoush accused his rivals of publishing the tape to tarnish his reputation. Tunisia is one of only two Arab states with a sizeable Jewish community. But pro-Palestinian sentiments remain strong and the country has no diplomatic ties with Israel. It’s merely anti-zionism of course…

nothing to do with anti-Semitism…. right? Anti-Israeli sentiment in Tunisia – especially in cultural and artistic circles – was already running high following the emergence of another remarkable tape. It showed another popular singer, Mohsen El Sharif, performing at the wedding of a Jewish couple of Tunisian origin in Israel. What angered people most in Tunisia was Mr El Sharif’s readiness to please the Israeli public by shouting “Long Live Netanyahu”, referring to the Israeli prime minister. He later tried to defend his action by saying that he thought that was the bridegroom’s name. Hija del Zion para Israel Support Israel

Court rejects attempt to stop destruction of fake graves by Carl in Jerusalem (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 3:55:00 AM

Court rejects attempt to stop destruction of fake graves I’ve discussed the fake graves being installed by Muslims in Jerusalem’s Mamilla cemetery several times, most recently here. On Monday, an Israeli court rejected an attempt by the Muslim Waqf to stop the fake graves’ destruction. The Jerusalem Magistrates Court prevented an attempt by the Waqf Muslim authority on Monday to expand the Muslim graveyard next to Independence Park (Gan Ha’atzmaut), not far from the Old City of Jerusalem. The Waqf applied for a restraining order to stop the Jerusalem municipality from removing fabricated graves from the

site, but the application was denied. The fabricated nature of the graves was uncovered by Arutz Sheva. The city recognized the legitimate ancient Muslim graves on the site but said it would reinforce the site and not let outside entities to operate there. Anyone want to bet how long it will take before this comes up at the UN ‘Human Rights Council?’ posted by Carl in Jerusalem @ 1:55 PM

Yad Vashem Comment Following Reports of a Fire in Majdanek by Yad Vashem (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 5:11:00 AM

Following reports this morning that a barracks at the Majdanek camp was seriously damaged by fire last night, Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev spoke to Majdanek Museum Director Tomasz Kranz and expressed his support. Shalev offered assistance to the Majdanek Museum, and expressed his deep sorrow that such an

important site, including valuable artifacts had been damaged or destroyed. According to the Museum, some 10,000 shoes from victims of Majdanek were destroyed during the fire. “The damage to these irreplaceable items is a loss to a site that has such historical value to Europe, Poland and the Jewish people,” said Shalev after his conversation with Kranz. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and all possibilities are being investigated. Hija del Zion para Israel Support Israel

Stoning 101 (Slate) by Elder of Ziyon (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 8/10/2010 5:25:00 AM

Slate has a helpful article on what exactly is involved when women adulterers are stoned in Iran. Sort of like a “Stoning for Dhimmis.” First, you get buried. Iran’s Islamic Penal Code states that men convicted of adultery are to be buried in the ground up to their waists; women, up to their chests. If the conviction is based on the prisoner’s confession, the law says, the presiding judge casts the first stone. If the conviction is based on witness testimony, the witnesses throw the first stones, then

the judge, then everyone else—generally other court officials and security forces. Stones must be of medium size, according to the penal code: Not so big that one or two could kill the person, but not so small that you would call it a pebble. In other words, about the size of a tangerine. The whole process takes less than an hour. Something to think about the next time Ahmadinejad declares that Iranians have superior human rights to Westerners.
