Two Muslims who shut down Fort Worth highway in February plead guilty to possession of homemade pipe bombs by Marisol (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 6/16/2010 5:12:46 PM
Two Muslims who shut down Fort Worth highway in February plead guilty to possession of homemade pipe bombs“Plea papers filed after a Friday court hearing offer no clues as to why Al-Homsi and Ansari, one of her son’s friends, spent early February buying pipes and gunpowder at Arlington hardware and sporting goods stores and assembling bombs in her apartment bedroom.” An update on this story, and the latest in the Kimberly al-Homsi saga. “Arlington woman pleads guilty to federal charges after 3 pipe bombs found in truck,” by Jason Trahan for the Dallas Morning News, June 16: A 45-year-old Arlington woman, who has had past run-ins with counterterrorism agents, has pleaded guilty to federal charges after police found three pipe bombs in a pickup she was driving. “A 45-year-old Arlington woman.” Huh. That explains… nothing. Kimberly Al-Homsi and Yasinul Ansari, her 18-year-old accomplice, both entered pleas before U.S. District Judge John McBryde in Fort Worth. They admitted to one count each of possession of an unregistered firearm, in this case homemade pipe bombs found in the truck in February. They could each receive up to 10
years and a $250,000 fine when sentenced Sept. 24. Plea papers filed after a Friday court hearing offer no clues as to why AlHomsi and Ansari, one of her son’s friends, spent early February buying pipes and gunpowder at Arlington hardware and sporting goods stores and assembling bombs in her apartment bedroom. The afternoon of Feb. 13, a motorist called 911 to report that someone in a pickup had pointed a weapon at him on West Abram Street in Arlington. Police found the truck and tried to pull it over, but the driver did not stop. The pursuit ended in Fort Worth after the truck carrying the pair hit ice at Rosedale Street near Loop 820. Police found a toy gun inside, in addition to three pipe bombs in a bag. Al-Homsi told federal agents that she and Ansari made the bombs in the bedroom of the North Arlington apartment using synthetic black powder, road flare material and match heads. When authorities searched the apartment at Hunters Point apartments on Ruger Drive in Arlington, they found week-old receipts from Pep Boys auto parts store and Academy Sports and Outdoors. Al-Homsi’s history of provocative behavior has attracted the attention of not only local media, but also police and federal counterterrorism agents. She first made headlines days before
Christmas in 2005 when she waved a fake grenade at a motorist on Central Expressway in Dallas. She was charged with a bomb hoax and received probation. On Feb. 25, 2007, Al-Homsi and a friend, Aisha Abdul-Rahman Hamad, were spotted at Dallas Love Field walking back and forth, apparently pacing off distances. When confronted, the women told officials they were looking for the Frontiers of Flight museum. Two days later, they were at the airport again. Al-Homsi was sitting on the hood of a car looking through binoculars at airplanes. The women refused to let police search their car, authorities say. On July 4, 2007, the pair was questioned after reportedly driving near the runways at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. About two weeks later, Al-Homsi called 911 to report that Hamad was threatening her with a knife. After a six-hour standoff, Arlington police arrested Hamad but also jailed AlHomsi for possession of a homemade gun, black powder, shotgun shells and putty. In interviews with reporters, AlHomsi has claimed to have dual American and Syrian citizenship, as well as overseas weapons training. She also claimed to have known Wadih el Hage, the former Arlington tire dealer convicted of being a personal aide to Osama bin Laden.
Authorities say she has no terrorist ties. Friends say she was born in the U.S., and had a father in the military. She is believed to have converted to Islam in college in Arizona, and eventually moved to Arlington. Her husband’s family is from Syria, which she has visited, friends say, they insist that she is not a danger. The Noose Around Israel’s Neck by Daniel Greenfield @ the Sultan Knish blog (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 6/16/2010 8:35:00 PM
Israel is being hung on a public gallows erected on the grounds of the United Nations with yards of rope gleefully supplied by the Muslim world. But the hangmen are mostly Westerners who still think that the Muslim lynch mob at their doorstep can be pacified with the death of a single victim. There are three things you can do when you are about to be hung. You can walk proudly, recite a glorious line or two to embed your martyrdom in historical memory, and then allow yourself to be hung. Jews have an extensive body of experience with that brand of martyrdom. Alternatively you can plead your case all the way to the gallows, arguing that a mistake has been made, that your case has been improperly reviewed, begging for someone to listen and do something. This way also ends in a hanging. But it’s the hanging of a slave without even a shred of dignity attached to it. A man that dies pleading with his murderers, and puts his fate in the honesty of the liars and hypocrites whose own crimes makes the worst of his look like virtues, is a craven fool. Because there is really only one thing you can do when the noose is being placed around your neck. Resist. A noose works by tightening around your neck and cutting off your air or breaking your neck. If you resist the tightening of the noose, you may actually survive. On the other hand if you follow through all the procedures, if you allow your hands to be tied behind your back, and the noose to be fastened around your neck while trusting in the system to do right by you– your death is inevitable. For seventeen years Israel has been walking toward the gallows. Its leaders have led it there by the nose ring of international assurances. Its people have been led there by refusing to see what is waiting ahead for them, even while the blood was being cleaned off the streets. Every attempt to reach a peaceful solution, every concession and show of good faith, has only tightened the bonds around its hands and the noose around its neck. That is because every concession Israel has made, has further restricted not only its ability to defend itself, but even its ability to do basic things such as build residential housing in the capital of its own nation. Every gesture and agreement Israel has signed has bound it to ever more restrictive terms. And none of them have brought any peace. All they have ever done is set the bar higher for the next round of concessions demanded by the enemy and its aiders
and abettors in the next phase of negotiations. This is not a peace process, and it has never been one. It is a public lynching. It is the lynching of a country whose only real crime is that its existence offends the religious fanaticism and prejudices of a billion Muslims, who control much of the world’s oil, and whose followers are willing to riot and kill in the streets of nearly every major city in the world at the slightest offense. The lynching began as a trial where the murderer wore a fine suit and his victim sat in an orange jumpsuit in the dock. Every day during the trial, the murderer would be allowed to leave the courtroom to kill again. And every afternoon he would return to the courtroom with bloody hands that the judge and jurors would pretend not to see. And if the victim dared to call attention to those bloody hands, he would be silenced and told that those murders too were his fault. Hadn’t he after all provoked the murderer into committing them? Now the trial is coming to a close. The farce that the proceedings ever had anything to do with peace is unraveling. And we can thank Hamas and Obama for that. The endgame is all too clear. The undoing of that “mistake” which allowed the oldest and most persecuted minority in the Middle East to briefly reclaim their homeland from the tyranny of Muslim Caliphs and Sultans. To serve as a homeland for their persecuted brethren from the east and the west. From the south and the north. That mistake. In a year in which the Iranian regime raped and murdered protesters after a stolen election. In which China and North Korea continue torturing and murdering political dissidents. In which Saudi Arabia and Dubai live off Southeast Asian slave workers. In which Venezuela’s Chavez continues shutting down independent media outlets and imprisoning opponents. In which Turkey continues holding thousands of Kurdish political prisoners while occupying Cyprus. In which Russia continues to dismantle democracy and murder journalists. In which Sudan continues perpetuating genocide and the rest of the world nods mournfully but continues on
with business as usual. In that year, Israel is the main culprit for such dastardly acts as reportedly assassinating a Hamas terrorist leader in Dubai and intercepting a flotilla providing aid and comfort to Hamas. Every country, including the nations on this list, are rushing forward their condemnations and demands that Israel be held accountable. Accountable for what? For refusing to be lynched. Every time Israel tries to be accommodating, it instead takes a step closer to the gallows. It allows the noose to be tightened around its neck. And every time that happens, it has to fight harder for air. Eventually if things keep going this way, there will be no air at all. Only a sad forlorn figure swinging in the hot eastern wind from the desert. And cries of Ibtach al Yahood among the rubble of cities and gardens of Jerusalem, Haifa, Tel Aviv and Ariel. Israel cannot survive by accommodating a lynch mob. Only by having the courage to defy it. When the international community at the behest of the Muslim lynch mob dictates the parameters of Israel’s survival, it must expand those parameters by pushing through them to the other side. If they want to recognize terrorists, then we kill those terrorists. If they want to break the Gaza blockade, then we retake Gaza. If they want to unilaterally create a Palestinian state, then we annex those territories. Accommodation is a noose. Defiance is the air of freedom. Every time Israel retreats, it is condemned for it. When it advances, it is condemned for it also, but its freedom of action expands. The world will always condemn Israel regardless of its intentions. But like any form of namecalling, those condemnations only gain power when Israel allows its actions to be dictated by them. Israel is not condemned because of what Israel does. It is condemned because of a diseased pattern of Islamic bigotry, left wing radicalism and international dhimmism converging in one place. This is a pattern of hate that cannot be undone. It can only be ignored. When you listen to the threats and taunts of those who hate you, you give them power over yourself. If you
try to accommodate your behavior to gain their favor, their outpouring of hate for you will only grow. For it is not your behavior they hate, it is you. By showing weakness, you invite attack. By giving your enemies power over you, all that you accomplish is to drive them into a feeding frenzy at your vulnerability. If you go on this way, you will either be a slave or a corpse. A slave if they have any use for you alive. A corpse if they don’t. Either way you have put your head into the noose they made for you. Israel cannot go on this way. No country could for long. Yet it does, marching on toward the gallows, protesting that there has been a terrible mistake here. But there is no mistake here. None at all. The executioners nod sympathetically and promise to look into it, as they bind his hands behind his back. It’s a farce and everyone except the dumbest among the lynch mob, and the condemned knows it. But like the condemned man refusing a blindfold in the anecdote who’s scheduled to be executed, we keep being warned not to make trouble. Go quietly. Breathe deeply. Soon it will all be over. What will the world say, if we resist? Exactly what the world says now. That we’re the neighborhood bully. The troublemakers that are the cause of all the troubles of the otherwise peaceful nations of the Middle East. The worm in the lovely healthy apple otherwise covered with Muslim tyrannies. Every threat that has been made has come about when Israel made concessions, not because it refused to. Every time Israel has chosen the high road, its enemies have ambushed it from the low road. It’s past time to wake up and start learning some lessons. The noose is drawn. And the nation is gasping for air. That breath of air was Jerusalem. The next one will be the Galilee. And then what? How many more breaths do we have left before we choke and die? Before Oslo, Israel was threatened with terror if it did not comply. It complied and the terror increased manifold. And if did not negotiate further, it was threatened with international isolation. It negotiated. It gave. And it was isolated anyway. It was threatened with boycotts, and it gave, and the boycotts came anyway. Now they threaten the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state. Followed by a One State Solution. Followed by international intervention. Noose, gallows and all. And does anyone think that all these will not come about anyway, if Israel gives Abbas and his terrorist cronies their own official state with a capital in Jerusalem? No compromise has worked until now. Which means no compromise will work. A process in which one side repeatedly compromises and the NOOSE page 6

Creepy looking Osama Bin Laden’s son wants to call daughter Elizabeth after the Queen by NoahDavidSimon (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 6/16/2010 4:11:00 PM
One of those strange stories that won’t go away!! TERROR boss Osama Bin Laden’s son wants to name his British child Elizabeth after the QUEEN, The Sun can reveal. Omar Bin Laden, 29, and his wife Zaina, 54, are controversially trying to have a baby using a young surrogate mum from Bristol. ‘Zaina’ is a former parish councillor from Moulton in Cheshire and changed her name from Jane Felix Browne. If the child is a boy they favour William – this time not after royalty but after Scottish independence fighter William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson in the film Braveheart. The couple already have four children between them – Zaina’s grown-up sons are 36, 31 and 30 while Omar has a seven-year-old son from his previous marriage. This week the couple had a setback in their quest to start their own family after hearing their third attempt at IVF had failed – surrogate Louise Pollard, 24, was not pregnant as hoped. But determined Zaina, a mum-ofthree and grandmother-of-five, insists she will continue until the treatment works. She says she has 35 frozen embryos – her eggs fertilised by Omar two years ago – waiting in a private clinic. She told The Sun: “I will have a child. I’m the driving force behind this but Omar is right behind me. Whatever stress I’m going through, it’s worth it. “I like Ruby for a girl’s name but Omar likes Elizabeth, after the Queen. He also likes William for a boy, after William Wallace. He’s very knowledgeable about British history and likes watching history and geography documentaries. “I’d love for him to come to the UK and visit Scotland, see the Lake District or the Yorkshire Moors.” Zaina married Saudi Arabian Omar, Osama’s fourth son, in September 2006. They met on a riding holiday in Egypt after the British housewife asked to take his picture. Zaina, who has multiple sclerosis, found mum-of-one Louise on a surrogacy website. Louise is a secretary who is single – and the youngest surrogate in the country. She has already had two surrogate children as well her own son Jaden, four. Zaina said: “She’s very brave and kind and is a fantastic mum to her own son. I have a lot of respect for her and really care for her.”
Not surprisingly, the defiant grandmother has faced a barrage of criticism from around the world for trying to have a baby with the child of the man who masterminded the 9/11 atrocity. Zaina, who says she was born a Muslim, insists: “As far as I’m concerned this is not Osama Bin Laden’s grandchild. Omar hasn’t seen his father for more than ten years, and left his father because he didn’t want to be a soldier. “You can’t judge a man on what his father does. Omar is the complete opposite to him, interested in peace, not violence. I wanted to keep this a secret so Osama wouldn’t even know he had a grandchild, but the news leaked out. We only know he’s alive from seeing him on the TV.” Omar is in touch with his mother Najwa, Bin Laden’s first wife, and most of his many brothers and sisters, who Zaina says have all been supportive of her decision. Surrogacy is frowned upon in Islam but Zaina’s surrogate has claimed that Omar is prepared go against his religion for the sake of their baby.
Critics say her attempt at having a child is purely a means of getting a visa for her husband, though the UK Border Agency says the biological parent of a child born in the UK will not automatically get the right to live here. Omar’s inability to get a visa – because of the potential public backlash – means the couple are frequently apart, though Zaina is planning a holiday for their upcoming fourth wedding anniversary. She added: “It’s very strange that Omar can come and go in other countries in Europe and around the world, but not here. “Omar could apply for a tourist visa any time but that has a limited stay. “We don’t want to live here permanently, but maybe during the summer. My children and grandchildren live in the UK and I want to be able to see them without leaving Omar behind. Happiness “I haven’t given up on it yet, I’m going to reapply.” Six-times married Zaina is sure she has found lasting happiness with
former scrap metal contractor Omar, who is on a global publishing tour promoting his book and currently in Thailand. As well as a home in the UK, the couple also hope to have a base in the USA, where the 9/11 attacks killed almost 3,000 people. Incredibly, the Bin Ladens are actually WELCOMED in America. Zaina said: “The Americans have been amazing to us and Omar’s book has sold well there, as well as other countries around the world.” She insists that, despite her age, doctors have told her the IVF procedure has the same chance of working for her as for anyone else. The couple will pay Louise’s expenses of £10,000 if she does fall pregnant – they have already spent £3,000 to cover Louise’s costs so far and Zaina has spent £50,000 on her own treatment and expenses. Zaina said: “Omar has written a book, Growing Up Bin Laden, explaining his life and promoting peace. A percentage of the profits are going to charity but we’re also using the money to have a baby. “My sons have had some ribbing at work about them having a baby brother or sister, and are a bit embarrassed to think of their mum having another child, but they are very supportive.” She is quick to defend her decision to have a child in her fifties. “What’s age? Madonna is 50 and has adopted a child. Sarah Jessica Parker used a surrogate to have twins at 45. “We have enough money for a child to live in luxury.” It’s clear Zaina is desperate to be a mum again, and despite their failed third attempt at pregnancy she steadfastly refuses to give up. “I’ll keep going until my eggs run out and then I’ll use donor eggs. I’ve even bought baby clothes. “All I want is to have a baby with my husband, and I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with that.” via islamizationwatch.blogspot.com what is with the black leather? State Commission of Inquiry blasts government handling of Gush Katif expellees by Carl in Jerusalem (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 6/16/2010 9:50:00 PM
State Commission of Inquiry blasts government handling of Gush Katif expellees A State Commission of Inquiry issued a 488-page report on Tuesday that blasted the government’s handling of the Gaza and Northern Samaria expulsion. Five years later, the State Commission of Inquiry into the Handling of the Evacuees from Gush Katif and Northern Samaria by the Authorized Authorities found a large gap between the rhetoric and action involved in the treatment of people from 21 settlements in the Gaza Strip and four in northern Samaria. “Many of the ministries viewed the mission of rehabilitating the evacuees as just another routine matter laid upon their desks, and they set their own agenda for handling it,” stated the 488-page report presented in Jerusalem on Tuesday. Five years since they lost their homes, according to the report, more than 70 percent of the evacuees still live in temporary dwellings. The report charged that part of the delay was caused by ordinary government bureaucracy. “The picture formed by the testimony is very worrisome and requires mobilization at the national level to change the situation,” said the report. Evacuees paid the price for needless bureaucratic obstacles, such as cabinet and Knesset Finance Committee approval for the budgeting of even small amounts of money. They also faced overly “rigid adherence” to tender laws, disputes between ministries, and lack of flexibility and creativity in resolving
problems, it said. The report also charged that in some cases government decisions had simply not been implemented. For example, the 2004 decision to forgive the evacuees’ debts to the World Zionist Organization’s settlement division was frozen until 2008, and was implemented only recently. A word of explanation is probably in order here about how housing gets built. You’ve all heard how there won’t be new construction in Ramat Shlomo for ‘at least two years.’ I don’t believe that people are actually signing contracts for those apartments yet, but often it is the case that you do sign up that far in advance. Often, to get government-built housing, you must sign up on paper. It takes some time to get accepted and then some more time until you get a contract and then way too long (2-3 years) to actually build. When we bought our apartment in a new section of Jerusalem, we signed up in
January 1992 (a few months after we made aliya to Israel), went to contract in late 1993 (and had to pay the first payment before we even signed a contract!) and moved into our apartment in mid-1996. In the interim, we had to pay rent on the place in which we were actually living, and once we stopped paying cash, we had mortgage payments. But at least we had jobs. Most of the people who were expelled from their homes also lost their jobs at the same time (because they worked within those towns). The next few paragraphs ought to give pause to those who – incredibly – still believe that Israel can just expel people from their homes in an instant. In examining other matters, the report said the five-month period between the enactment of the Disengagement Implementation Law and the evacuation itself had not given the evacuees enough time to
properly plan their temporary living arrangements. “This affected both the cost of construction and the quality of the structures, as well as the conditions of the contracts that were hastily signed with receiving settlements,” stated the report regarding modular housing. The tight timing also meant that evacuees were initially placed in hotels – at great cost to the state and emotional suffering for the families – instead of being transferred directly to the modular homes. The report also criticized the expellees for not cooperating – did they really expect that people who were being expelled from their homes would leave willingly? As much resistance as there was to leaving five years ago, if God forbid an Israeli government decides to do the same thing again in other parts of the country, the resistance from the residents will be much greater. posted by Carl in Jerusalem @ 7:50 AM Hija del Zion para Israel Support Israel • Modern Philosophy Of Religion – “I’ll Have A Mocca Easter To Go Please” The scent of cinnamon, windows steamed up by the burning oven, a little girl with hair as gold covered in flour and smiling at you. Scapegoat? by Carl in Jerusalem (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 6/16/2010 10:15:00 PM
Scapegoat? An IDF soldier may face charges for allegedly killing two civilians during Operation Cast Lead. The incident took place on January 4 in Juhar a-Dik, near Gaza City, when a group of about 30 Palestinian civilians, including women and children, approached an Israeli military position. The group, according to several eyewitness accounts, was waving white flags. At a certain point, one of the IDF soldiers from the Givati Brigade opened fire, killing a mother and daughter – 35-year-old Majda Abu Hajiji and her 64-year-old mother Salama. The incident was later thoroughly investigated by B’Tselem and mentioned in the Goldstone Report. During a military probe shortly following the incident, one soldier was picked out as responsible for opening fire at the group of civilians. “Ahmad and Majda waved white flags, so the soldiers would see us. Suddenly, they opened fire at us, and we began to run eastward,” Majda’s sister-in-law Farhaneh Abu Hajaj latert told B’Tselem. “My mother-inlaw was behind us because she couldn’t run. While I ran, I saw Majda on the ground. I thought she was lying there so she wouldn’t be hit by the gunfire. I said to her, “Get up! Get up!”, but she didn’t move. I finally realized she had been killed by the gunfire.” Mandelblit decided last year to open
a Military Police criminal investigation into the incident during which the soldier was interrogated but explained that he had felt in danger, was in the middle of a battle, and therefore opened fire. Next week, Mandelblit will hold a special hearing for the soldier before deciding if to press charges and if so on what count. One possibility under consideration is manslaughter. Based on past experience, the ‘Palestinians’ are serial liars. Unless another soldier in the unit corroborated the testimony, I would not believe it. Haaretz has decided that the soldier will face charges and Mandelblit’s hearing is only to decide what charges he will face. Haaretz also adds: Sergeant S. was part of a combined
force of Givati and armored brigades which had entered a built up area when it identified a group of around 30 Palestinians walking towards them, apparently after being ordered by the IDF to evacuate their homes in a neighboring area. A deputy battalion commander ordered troops to fire warning shots towards the group – but not at them. Soon after the order was given, two Givati brigade soldiers joined the troops. One of them, S., opened fire, killing the two women. Investigators found that the battalion commander had acted properly. The case is expected to center on how much S. knew of the circumstances and the commander’s orders when he arrived at the scene. The fatal incident was first investigated following reports by
That is now justice. That is a lynch mob. And what does Netanyahu do in response? Like nearly every Israeli government before him, he backs off on the blockade. Because given that tidbit the lynch mob will be appeased. It will, won’t it. Won’t it? We are no longer talking about negotiations. Or any serious discussion of a state. We are talking about the world rising up in one voice to defend the rights of a genocidal organization funded by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad whose charter includes the words; “ The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdullah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.” The pretense is over and done with. This is not about anything resembling peace. This is about death. This is a lynch mob. Some come willingly. Others think that they have no choice. That a single murder will buy them the tolerance of the Dar Al Islam. This is what a noose looks like. These are the gallows. As its hands are bound, Israel loses the ability to
defend itself. As the noose tightens, Israel dies. Only by resisting the noose, can it survive. Only by fighting to free its hands, can it resist. The way of surrender is the way of death. And after Israel dies, its own hangmen will be next. Because the lynch mob has only begun. Its appetite is whetted by death. Its hunger will only be sharpened by blood, not sated by it. And it will cover the world in blood, if it is not stopped. But now the noose draws tight. Only a little more air is left. What will we do with that air? Appeal for justice, or fight with all our strength to rip the noose away. For now the choice is still ours. When the noose has done it work, it no longer will be. Well, the chances are against it and the odds are slim That he’ll live by the rules that the world makes for him ’Cause there’s a noose at his neck and a gun at his back And a license to kill him is given out to every maniac Neighborhood Bully, Bob Dylan Hija del Zion para Israel Support Israel

The Jewish High Holy Days by paraisrael (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 6/16/2010 11:25:13 PM
by RonAlmog The Jewish High Holy Days Many people assume that Hanukkah is the most important holiday for Jewish people because it usually occurs at the same time (or very close to) Christmas. The truth is that Hanukkah is a fun holiday, but the holiest holidays for the Jewish Community involve Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and it usually falls during the spring months. Yom Kippur is called the Day of Atonement. The days between them are called the Ten Days of Repentance. The basic story is this: Starting on Rosh Hashanah Jewish people are supposed to take a look at their lives and make their peace with the wrongs they have committed over the past year. Over the next ten days they are supposed to make peace and ask forgiveness from the people that they have wronged. On Yom Kippur they humble themselves before God and ask that he forgives them for the wrongs they have committed.
Rosh Hashanah is a day that is filled with challah bread which is dipped in honey which symbolizes the Jewish peoples’ hopes for a good year in the year to come. Three sets of prayers are said during the morning Rosh Hashanah services which address God’s sovereignty and present the God who remembers peoples’ past actions and before whom everyone stands in nervous anticipation of the year to come. Each prayer is begun with the sounding of the shofar as the shofar blast reminds the community of the relationship between God and Israel and reminds them that they must carry messages of hope, continuity and sacrifice. One of the most popular Rosh Hashanah traditions is the throwing of pieces of bread or crumbs into flowing water, which symbolizes the washing away of sin. Yom Kippur is a day of fasting. This is the day in which Jewish people come together and ask for forgiveness for their communities. The entire community repents for wrong doings that community members have committed over the past year. This is the most serious day of the year for Jewish people. The day came to be known as a day of abstinence and mourning during the Second Temple
Period. Today the Jewish Community views Yom Kippur as the day that they sever themselves from the rest of the world in their minds and hearts and spends the whole day communing with God. This communion is manifested in fasting and, in some circles, dressing in white. The services held on Yom Kippur are the longest and most involved services of the year. In some ways the Christian New Year has the same idea—remembering what has happened during the previous year and promising to do better during the next one. The Jewish people are very serious about Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and the days that come between them as they are the holiest days of the Jewish calendar. It is during this time that God inscribes the Jewish community members’ fate for the next year. Yom Kippur Murder (Christine Bennett Mysteries) When ex-nun Christine Bennett can’t get into her friend Mr. Herskovitz’s apartment to accompany him to Yom Kippur services, she discovers that he’s been murdered. The police arrest
that some brands of corn flakes and raisin bran have over 300 mg of sodium per cup? Here’s another breakfast surprise – one serving of frozen waffles has 420 mg of sodium! Bread, muffins and cookies may also come loaded with sodium that we barely even taste. Who thinks of salt in cake mixes? One serving of yellow cake made from a mix contains 310 mg of sodium. Did I mention bourekas? How much salt should you get each day? The American Heart Association recommends 1,500 mg or less of sodium each day to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. That’s way down from their previous recommendation of no more than 2,300 mg. With many of us getting between 2,000 and 5,000 mg of sodium daily, that’s a big adjustment. How much sodium is in salt? One teaspoon of salt contains just over 2,300 mg of sodium. That’s one reason to keep the salt shaker off of the kitchen table. Use salt sparingly while cooking and rely on herbs and spices instead to lend more flavor to your cooking. What else can you do?
The best thing you can do is to cook your own food. The more cooking you do, the more control you’ll have over how much salt you get. And the fewer processed foods you eat, the less salt (and sugar and fat!) you’ll end up eating. When you’re shopping for cereal and convenience foods like pasta sauce, check nutrition labels for sodium and choose brands with the least amount. Skip the powdered soup mix and make your own simple stock. Since kosher meat has enough salt in it already, use pepper, herbs and spices to season your meat and poultry. Besides salt, hypertension can be lowered with weight loss and a high intake of fruits and vegetables. Are governments doing anything? In the US, New York City has taken the lead, with its “National Salt Reduction Initiative” (See my previous blog.) The United Kingdom is working with industry to reduce sodium in processed food by 10% over the next five years. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Finland have all launched initiatives to help reduce the salt in their food. Here in Israel, the Health Ministry is working with industry to gradually

Most of the salt we eat comes from processed food liked canned and “instant” soup, sauces and salad dressing, canned fish, frozen foods, noodle and macaroni mixes and the all-time kosher kitchen favorite, dried soup powder. (Here in Israel, a television ad features a soldier returning home unexpectedly during the night. Thanks to a popular brand of soup powder, his mother is able to prepare a delicious meal for him while he’s in the shower!) Kosher meat (which, of course has been salted) is another source of sodium that most of us don’t think about. More obvious salty foods are crackers, pretzels, pickles, deli meat, salted nuts and olives. I recently received a sample packet of tomato rice soup. The nutritional claim was “more than 50% vegetables”. That’s a great pitch to dietitians. But each serving had 510 mg of sodium! Then there are surprises. Like breakfast cereal. Who would guess

Turkey ‘pretending’ to make its own UAV’s by Carl in Jerusalem (Hija del Zion para Israel - Daughter of Zion for Israel) Submitted at 6/16/2010 4:35:00 PM
Turkey ‘pretending’ to make its own UAV’s On Tuesday, I reported that Turkey had ‘ suspended’ its contract to purchase UAV’s (unmanned aerial vehicles) from Israel. A senior Israeli defense ministry source, however, has told YNet that the contract is continuing and that the Turkish army is ‘ pretending’ that it is capable of producing UAV’s directly to please Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. The Turkish military is still using Israel-made UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), a senior source in the defense establishment said Monday, following a report in the Turkish daily Zaman, suggesting Ankara has ceased using such UAVs in favor of Turkish made ones. “Anyone paying attention to what is written in the report can immediately see that it’s false,” said the source. “There is no such thing as Turkishmade UAVs, simply because they do not manufacture any unmanned aerial vehicles. “If the Turks were able to
manufacture UAVs, they wouldn’t be buying them from Israel; and even if they started manufacturing them, they can’t just dispose of an Israeli UAV, which they paid a fortune for, and spent months learning how to operate, and just change it,” he said. The Turks, he added, “Would have no problem stripping the UAV from its Israeli trademarks, giving it a new paint job, sticking the Turkish flag on
it, and staging a photo op. “This is all just a show for (Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip) Erdogan. Their prime minister is causing them a lot of grief. The military doesn’t like his policies – so he replaces generals. “They need to take part in the show called ‘we hate Israel’ and pretend to boycott Israel. It’s the same in Israel. As things stand, I meet with many
high-ranking Turkish officials and both sides know that the relationship will continue.” I’d rather Israel not be supplying advanced military technology to a country on the verge of becoming an enemy. But isn’t it amazing how the Turks are capable of lying to themselves? posted by Carl in Jerusalem @ 2:35 AM Hija del Zion para Israel Support Israel • Wooden Jewish Holiday Puzzle – Yom Kippur by Melissa and Doug Product DescriptionThis is a 30 piece wooden puzzle that contains a phrase from scripture about the sacred holiday.
