THE NEGLECT OF SOCIETAL STEWARDSHIP the constituencies of each of those 13 Original States 240 years ago.

Hilbert Morales EL OBSERVADOR Today many American elected officials are missing opportunities to emphasize the need to understand and apply the role of 'societal stewardship' in this democracy and its capitalistic economy. What is societal stewardship? It is inclusive consideration of the needs of communities, their economies, resources and environments. All Americans, would be well advised to read the Declaration of Independence and then its idealistic U.S. Constitution, which establishes that “We, the People” agree to be governed by a 'representative form of government', wherein elected officials represent our personal values and goals. The American Democracy was established before 1776 when the elected leaders of the original 13 British colonies assembled in Philadelphia to declare their independence as a nation. Then that same assembly crafted the U.S. Constitution as the basic law of this land. It was ratified by

The original U.S. Constitution was improved and made more inclusive as evidenced by the addition of the first ten amendments, known today as the 'Bill of Rights' (ratified September 1791), and written down to protect 'We, the People'. Since then, an additional 17 Amendments have been ratified. The most significant are the abolition of slavery (No. 13, ratified December 1865); prohibiting denial of right to vote based on race, color or 'previous condition of servitude' (No. 15, ratified January 1870) and prohibiting the denial of the right to vote based on sex (No. 19, ratified August 1920). The U.S. Constitution separated the authority and power of governance by defining the President's role and authority as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and, during wartimes, as its Commander in Chief (CIC). The role of the U.S. Congress, as its deliberative body of elected officials who have the responsibility to craft needed laws; endorse the President's nominations to the President's Cabinet and to approve candidates proposed to be members of the Judiciary branch (.i.e. the U.S. Federal

Courts, especially its U.S. Supreme Court). The outcome was three branches of governance: Executive; Legislative; and Judicial. Two more are The Press 'and State's Rights. It is very important to understand, support, and sustain the Free Press and its influence, but also the power of The Press. Almost immediately, The independent free Press was recognized as the Fourth Estate of governance because all concepts were presented, evaluated, and debated publicly in local newsletters prior to ending up in the U.S. Constitution. Open and transparent nonviolent deliberation by all constituents was encouraged and practiced. During those times (1700's), each community had its own newsletter and/ or newspaper...independently owned and operated by local citizens. The Federalist Papers was one such example. Just recently, persistent 'free press' inquiries led to the resignation of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, who had been appointed by President Trump to his Cabinet. Flynn had a dinner meeting on December 25, 2016 with Russia's President Vladimir Putin. Flynn had 'mis-spoken' to the President and Vice President

about this dinner meeting and its conversations, with the consequence that his integrity and trustworthiness had been compromised. Trump accepted Flynn's resignation. It is the role of the free and independent press to look into and report to the American public the truth and facts of any matter. Especially those issues dealing with national security. This is an example of the powerful influence of the free and independent press in any democratic community. The press is essential to keeping citizens educated and informed. Historically, the free independent press has been and is successfully eliminated by any and all dictators. This San Jose community needs to support its local independent free publications because today many socalled 'local publications' are controlled and operated by corporations having special interests. There is an opportunity for local readers to practice societal stewardship by ensuring that their local independent free press remains as such one. There are ultimately severe consequences to not having the facts or truth of any matter which impacts any and all decisions in this life. Just know that reporters and journalists

may look into matters which the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of our government may not fully expose in a transparent factual manner to its constituents. This role of the free press is essential to the informed decision-making activities of its citizens, legislators and leadership. Democracy cannot exist for long where the free press is controlled by the government (or a dictator). A fifth additional element of governance exists, but is not fully appreciated, understood or used: THE STATES RIGHTS. The 9th and 10th Amendment state that “all responsibilities and authorities not specifically granted to the central Federal government remain as 'powers residing within the States.' Today the fifty American States all have their own legislatures in which States Rights are practiced and redefined. Here is where societal stewardship may be practiced in a manner that reflects the priorities and values of each state's constituents. It is here where the States, using their authority and power to license businesses or grant charters to institutions, may establish local laws which require an enterprises' decision makers to deal with societal stewardship in addition to being profitable.

Una gran lección de dignidad personal nos ha dado todos aquellos que participaron la semana pasada en las movilizaciones de “Un Día Sin Inmigrantes”, una jornada cívica ejemplar que hizo visible el drama humano de las familias migrantes que viven en la zozobra, por el clima de asedio oficial hacia los indocumentados. Cientos de restaurantes, supermercados y comercios cerraron sus puertas, miles de personas dejaron de asistir a sus centros de trabajo y participaron en marchas o protestas callejeras y, me atrevo a pensar, millones más se solidarizaron a distancia con la tragedia humanitaria que significa vivir con el miedo a la separación de sus seres queridos.

Es verdad que un gobierno goza del derecho irrefutable de hacer cumplir sus leyes y que la seguridad fronteriza es una condición necesaria para proteger la integridad de la población, pero en la aplicación de la ley debe también vigilarse el debido proceso y un trato digno para asegurar que todos puedan ejercer plenamente sus derechos en este país. Al clima de terror se han sumado filtraciones dolosas que sugieren la activación de 100,000 elementos de la Guardia Nacional para realizar redadas masivas de inmigrantes, una escena que evoca las deportaciones del presidente Dwight Eisenhower de 1954. Aunque la versión fue desmentida, logró sembrar la duda en el imaginario colectivo. Desafortunadamente todo parece indicar que los escenarios extremos

que muchos temían tienen el potencial de materializarse. Una nueva filtración de los planes que revisa la Casa Blanca sugieren que el universo potencial de personas sujetas a deportación podría elevarse a 8 millones de personas, según Los Ángeles Times. En el día que la nación celebra el día del Presidente, también se abuchea el primer mes de la presidencia de Donald Trump, el cual ha dejado una estela de caos político, mentira en casi cada informe que enuncia y una corrupción jamás vista en un Presidente. La administración Trump aún no tiene un gabinete completo, debido a la mala reputación de algunos de sus nominados con respecto a sus ideales sobre inmigración, salario mínimo federal, y conf licto de intereses. Algunos confirmados han necesitado de la intervención del Senado con mayoría republicana y el Vicepresidente, después de fallar sus nominaciones en los comités bipartidistas. A esto se aúna el escándalo sobre la renuncia del Consejero de Seguridad Nacional

para la Presidencia, General Michael Flynn por mentir sobre conversaciones con autoridades rusas para mediar en la reducción de sanciones a Rusia y el de la Consejera del Presidente Kellyanne Conway en un claro caso de corrupción por utilizar su posición política para promover la marca comercial de la hija de Trump, Ivanka después que la cadena Nordstrom decidiera retirar sus productos de las tiendas. La mayor derrota sufrida por Trump ha sido la suspensión de su orden ejecutiva sobre inmigración en contra de los musulmanes, la cual ha sido tan categórica como la respuesta del Presidente mexicano Peña Nieto de rehusarse a pagar por el muro fronterizo o la del ex Primer Ministro de Suecia al preguntar ¿Qué es lo que fuma Trump? Ridiculizándolo, al aludir un ataque terrorista en ese país que nunca sucedió.

La mentira ha sido fundamental para el gobierno de Trump, empezando con la más grande de todas al manifestar que millones de personas votaron ilegalmente, hacer uso de números erráticos al clamar el índice de crimen y desempleo en la nación, exagerar número de empleos que empresas han prometido crear en USA, mentir sobre el costo del muro fronterizo y quien pagara por su construcción, sobre las redadas migratorias que capturan no solo personas con record criminal, sobre mostrar sus impuestos al ser Presidente, mentir al decir que residiría en La Casa Blanca únicamente, y que tenía un plan de salud mejor que obamacare, mentirle a la nación al acusar a los medios de prensa como enemigos de Trump y Los Estados Unidos. El exclusivo club ha doblado el valor de membresía desde que el Presidente se hospeda allí. Igualmente, el dinero público es utilizado para pagar por la estadía de la Primera Dama en Trump

Tower en N Y, y en los viajes de sus hijos a Uruguay y Emiratos Árabes Unidos para promover la apertura de nuevos hoteles de la familia Trump. El costo para los contribuidores estadounidense ha sido de quince millones en el primer mes de su presidencia. China además ha brindado poder absoluto al Presidente sobre la marca Trump en ese país, alarmando así al comité de ética presidencial sobre los abusos de poder que este presidente ejerce por su posición política. DELIGHTFUL DELIVERIES: HOW TO MAKE SURE YOUR PACKAGES ARRIVE SAFELY Better Business Bureau Online shopping can be a great way to beat the winter blues. It’s been a few months since the holidays, but there’s something about a package delivered to your front door that brings back the festive spirit! One thing that’ll dampen your mood, however, is if something goes wrong with delivery. Getting something delivered has associated risks; from phishing emails and delivery scams to package theft. Follow these tips from your BBB to ensure your packages are delivered safely and your personal and financial information isn’t compromised: Be a savvy online shopper. • It’s easy for scammers to create fake websites that take your money but never send goods. In 2016, BBB Scam Tracker received more than 2,700 reports of online shopping scams, and 74% involved a monetary loss! • Before shopping on a website, look it up on bbb.org to make sure it’s trustworthy. There, you can see its rating, complaint history and reviews from past customers. • Make sure the site is secure – look for the “https”, where the “s” stands for “secure” – and read its privacy policy. Check for a physical address along with both a phone number and email for customer service, and read the refund and exchange policies carefully. Protect your packages from theft. • First off, don’t schedule deliveries unless you’ll know you’ll be home and not on vacation. If you can’t avoid having a package delivered when you’re not home, have it delivered to the post office or other carrier facility where you can pick it up, consider having it delivered to your work or ask a friend or trusted neighbor to pick it up from your home for you. • It’s always a good idea to request a tracking number for your package and track it as it’s shipped – paying attention to estimated delivery dates. Save this number, along with order confirmations and other delivery information.

• You can sometimes choose to require a signature for delivery – this ensures that a package won’t just be left on a doorstep. You can also request that a package be delivered to a more secure back or side door. Watch out for phishy delivery emails. • In 2016, consumers nationwide reported more than 1,200 phishing scams to BBB Scam Tracker, and the median loss was $400 – watch out! • How it works: fraudsters, pretending to be from an identifiable shipping service, send “missed delivery” or “shipping confirmation” notices to unsuspecting email users. Recipients are instructed to click on a link or open an attachment to complete the delivery process. Unfortunately, the links and attachments will likely unleash a virus or other malware that can track your logins and passwords as you travel the internet or corrupt your computer files. • Don’t open any emails you aren’t expecting or click on links or attachments within them. Even if you did order a package, legitimate delivery companies will leave a tag on your door if they’re unable to deliver, not send an email. Don’t let a delivery scam steal your info. • The scam begins like this: a delivery person shows up at your door out of the blue with a gift basket. You don’t know who sent it, and neither does the delivery person. However, they inform you that you need to pay a nominal “verification fee” with your credit or debit card. The card scanner, however, is actually a skimmer and will collect your credit/debit card number and security code. Then, you may be subject to identity theft or fraudulent charges. • Protect yourself by being wary of any packages delivered by an unrecognized delivery service or source – you should recognize the company. If you don’t, look it up on bbb.org. Unless you ordered the package and expected to have to pay, you should never be required to pay a fee to receive a package or gift. If you’re receiving alcohol, you may have to show ID, but never supply your card information!

StatePoint Los padres y personas responsables de cuidar a los niños podrían estar subestimando la importancia de la atención dental para los “dientes de leche” de los niños. De acuerdo a los Centros para el Control y Prevención de Enfermedades, sólo el 63% de los niños entre 2 y 4 años de edad ven el dentista al menos una vez al año. La mayoría de los beneficios dentales cubren consultas de atención preventiva dos veces al año sin costos a su bolsillo, y estas consultas son importantes para los niños pequeños. Los dientes de leche (también conocidos como dientes primarios) desempeñan un papel importante en el desarrollo saludable general de los niños. Si comienzan las caries y se dejan sin tratamiento, pueden volverse dolorosas y posiblemente infectarse. La pérdida de estos dientes de modo prematuro puede afectar la forma de comer y de hablar, el aprendizaje y la autoestima. Dealing With Unsanitary Floodwaters

Santa Clara County Health Officer Statement Regarding Potential Risks in Coming in Contact With Floodwaters SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. After the flooding incidents throughout the South Bay, Dr. Sara Cody, Santa Clara County Health Officer, provides the following information for people living in areas that are flooding. Specifically, contact with floodwaters can pose risks to health and safety. Floodwaters may contain materials that are hazardous to health and it is best to avoid any contact with the water. Raw sewage, animal wastes, household chemical compounds, bacteria and other potential contaminants may be in the water, so people should take every precaution to stay away from the water to avoid illness or injury. The following guidelines have been provided by the Public Health and Environmental Health Departments for anyone who has been in contact with floodwaters: • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and clean water. If any part of your body has come in contact with floodwaters, wash with soap and clean water. If you have children who have come in contact with floodwater, make sure they wash too. • If you have open cuts or sores, protect them. Keep them as clean as possible by washing with soap and applying an antibiotic ointment

to discourage infection. If a wound develops redness, swelling or drainage, contact your health provider and get immediate medical attention.

• Avoid eating any food that may have come in contact with floodwater. If you suspect food came in contact with the water, throw it away. Undamaged, commercially canned foods can be saved if you remove the labels, thoroughly wash the cans and disinfect them with a solution consisting of one tablespoon of bleach in one gallon of water. Food containers with screw caps, snap lids, flip caps, snap caps, twist caps and home-canned foods should be discarded if they have come into contact with floodwater because they cannot be disinfected.

• Do not let children play with toys which have been in contact with floodwater until the toys have been disinfected. Disinfect toys using a solution of one cup of bleach in five gallons of water. The Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health is providing health and safety guidelines for individuals returning to flooded areas. Photo Credit: Pixabay Ushered to the fringes during the 20th century, the most recent data from the CDC shows midwives were the lead care providers for nearly one in 11 births in 2013. The renewed popularity isn't much of a surprise at Group Health, which has offered a midwifery program for a quarter century. Susan Warwick, Program Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Group Health, says midwives have the advantage of focusing solely on patients. "They do a lot of just comfort care and labor support, where physicians tend to be taking care of higher-risk

patients," she said. "They might be in and out of the room a bit more because they're managing a larger group of patients in the hospital when they're in labor." However, midwifery still is mired in myths. Very few deliveries happen at home. According to the American College of Nurse-Midwives, 97 percent of midwife-assisted births take place in a hospital. Warwick says it's not the antiquated profession some imagine, either. She says they never hesitate to use appropriate technology or medical options to protect the health of the mother and her child. Midwives also are extensively trained. In Washington state, they must first become licensed as registered nurses, and then earn a master's degree from a stateaccredited midwifery training program. They assist in more than just delivery, spending time with

families to focus on prenatal care and labor. At Group Health, expecting families can join a midwife-mediated group called CenteringPregnancy where they meet with other expecting families. Warwick says families meet throughout their pregnancies, including postpartum meetings.

"And then they sometimes go on to continue to get together after they deliver." Group Health has received a lot of positive feedback for the CenteringPregnancy program. A survey by the health group found 96 percent of participants preferred receiving prenatal care in a group rather than in one-on-one appointments.

Supervisor Dave Cortese Rumors about immigration raids in our county have surfaced over the past few weeks. The rumors have spread across social media, but none were ever confirmed. Understandably, many are trying to inform their immigrant friends and colleagues in an effort to keep them safe. Unfortunately, without being verified, these rumors cause more anxiety and fear among residents. If you hea r of a pot ent ia l ra id in the community, verify it before you share it with others. If you are an immigrant, you are encouraged to contact the County’s Office of Immigrant Relations or my office to report the potential incident. Do not engage or go near the raid activity. In the meantime, immigrant residents should be informed about their rights at home, in the workplace, and in the community. The Mexican Consulate of San Jose has released the following information informing immigrant residents in the event of immigration authorities visiting your home: • • • • • • •

Do not open the door Remain calm Do not run away Do not disclose your immigration status A sk why they are at your home and request an interpreter if you need one Ask who they are and who they are looking for A sk them to show you a cour t order through the window or slide a copy under the door Make sure the cour t order ha s your name, address, and is signed by a judge If they do not show you a court order, you have the right to deny them entry into your home

If immigration authorities enter your home without a court order or your permission: • Ask for the names and badge numbers of the immigration officers and tell them

The County has affirmed its commitment to serving and protecting all residents, including those without citizenship status. In December 2016, Supervisor Cindy Chavez and I held a hearing on immigration in which our County Sheriff, Laurie Smith, reaf f irmed her commitment to uphold the county’s current civil detainer policy which limits coordination with ICE. At the same hearing, San Jose Police Chief Eddie Garcia proclaimed that his department and officers will not cooperate or act as immigration agents. In the wake of President Trump’s executive order on January 25, 2017, I have also reaffirmed my commitment to ensuring that our law enforcement officers are not employed as immigration agents. Most recently, the County Counsel filed a lawsuit in federal cour t challeng ing Trump’s executive order on immigration enforcement, which seeks to w ithhold federal funds from cities and counties like ours that do not assist in the deportation of immigrant residents. President Trump’s executive order threatens to withhold up to $1.3 billion in federal funds from Santa Clara Count y. Though the outcome of the lawsuit is yet to be determined, I am confident that we will prevail. For now, the best course of action is to be informed and to have a plan. 2. Investiga qué documentos debes llevar siempre a la mano y mantén una copia de toda tu documentación en un lugar seguro.

Para mayor información acércate a tu Consulado de México más cercano o llama al CIAM.

3. Si requieres orientación migratoria, acércate a tu Consulado, te brindarán información sobre abogados confiables de migración.

Recuerda que una orden administrativa del ICE (forma I-200, I-205) no les da autorización para entrar a tu casa sin autorización.

4. Conoce tus derechos en tu casa, lugar de trabajo o en la calle.

Arturo Hilario El Observador Jorge Felez creció en Madrid, España, con ganas de patinar. Cuando abrió una pista de hielo cerca a su hogar el y sus hermanos fueron cautivados con la idea de deslizarse a través del hielo. Aquí habla con El Observador sobre sus experiencias con su carera, ademas de su trabajo actual con Disney. ¿Como es que empezaste el interés en el patinaje? Yo empecé a patinar a las seis anos, ahora tengo 27, o sea todavía estoy con los patines en los pies. Empecé a patinar porque abrieron una pista de hielo a cinco minutos de mi casa, y yo con mis hermanos nos apuntamos a clases. Hice bien, estuve compitiendo hasta los 15 años mas o menos. Y después de eso lo deje, porque la competición es andar todo los días entrenando, y fue un momento en donde decidí parar. Y luego lo retome como entrenador cuando estaba en la universidad como un trabajo en la misma pista donde fui a patinar. Fui yo el entrenador. Estuve allí unos cinco años como entrenador y después de eso me llamaron para hacer un espectáculo por España. ¿Fue una cosa difícil o fácil empezar a trabajar en estos espectáculos? Que experiencia tuviste con eso? Bueno patinaje artístico en España es un deporte minoritario es muy poco popular aunque ahora mismo el doblemente campeón del mundo y cinco veces campeón de Europa es español, un compañero mío. Es una excepción. Nadie en España se imagina que se puede vivir del patinaje es como muy extraño. Yo cuando era pequeño no me imaginaba que me iba estar dedicándome al mundo del espectáculo como patinador. En el mundo del espectáculo somos muy pocos chicos patinadores en España, entonces siempre hace falta. ¿Como ha sido trabajar con el espectáculo de Disney? Antes de venir estaba en un circo y la compañía con la que estaba trabajando me dijo, ‘deberías de intentar con Disney’, por mi manera de patinar y actuar, y me empujaron, también mi familia. Justo Disney estaba en la misma ciudad con la que yo estaba actuando

Yo soy parte del choro digamos, tenga varios papeles, hago el pre-show que trasladamos todo el talento que tenemos backstage. Los llevamos al hielo, hacemos unos cuantos pasos de baile para que entren a la escena, y se preparen para el show. Luego también estoy en la sección de ‘La Sirenita’ y en ‘Frozen’. Para prepararme para los personajes al principio de la temporada tenemos dos semanas de ensayos con nuestro director, preparamos bailes, todos la coreografía entonces tenemos clases de forma y como conectar a tu personaje, es un proceso que durante todo el año vamos preparando.

Hay muchos de hecho, pero el pre-show que es la primera escena de toda la obra, es bastante energética porque entramos 7 patinadores, a levantar a todo el público para que se pongan a bailar. Es super energético y hacemos un mensaje de vivir saludable, hacer ejercicio, los ves a todos los niños haciendo los mismos pasos que tu y es un momento muy especial. Por supuesto también el final con “Frozen”, que salimos los patinadores a hacer la coreografía de la música de “Frozen” que es muy popular. Y esos momentos, son los 'highlights' que tenemos en la obra. Que puedes decirle a la gente sobre Disney On Ice Presents Worlds of Enchantment. Porque seria una buena experiencia? Bueno vamos a ver [personajes de] las películas, “Toy Story 3”, “La Sirenita”, “Cars” y “Frozen”. Pero por supuesto van a estar también Mickey Mouse y Minnie Mouse, el Pato Donald, Goofy, quien es el maestro de ceremonias. Lo que trae este año espectacular son los coches de “Cars” que es la única producción en el mundo que tiene los coches de esa película. Van a estar en el hielo, haciendo derrapes, piruetas y es bastante espectacular ver como los coches se mueven por el hielo. Si quieren disfrutar del espectáculo y la magia de Disney que vengan a ver “ Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment” estaremos en San Jose del 22 al 26 de Febrero. Y también vamos a ir a Oakland el 1-5 de Marzo. Es el momento oportuno para disfrutar la magia de Disney sobre hielo. While it is difficult to transform a culture of “Always be closing” or “Make your numbers or else,” if you want to digitally transform your organization, you are going to have to do whatever it takes to assemble your orchestra in an environment where the musicians play music, not just notes. 6. Test, Fail, Learn

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN 7 BRAIN-BUSTING STEPS Shelly Palmer The phrase “digital transformation” is so overused that it may be on the brink of its own transformation from a business imperative to a hackneyed refrain. Clichés aside, digital transformation is a business imperative and time is the enemy. So, let’s have a look at seven brain-busting steps that will enable you to create value in your organization through digital transformation. 1. Awareness Digital transformation requires two kinds of awareness: self-awareness and organizational awareness. Self-awareness: You must honestly evaluate your personal capabilities. How much did you love or hate math in high school? How much attention did you pay in statistics class in college? Are you a technophobe or a technocrat? Are you excited about learning every day or are you dreading it? These are just a few of the kinds of questions you must honestly answer before you participate in the digital transformation of your world. You must evaluate your colleagues, subordinates and superiors as well. If you’re not with the right people, it’s exhausting – and that’s putting it mildly. it here” mindset. 2. Literacy (not fluency) You need to be digitally literate. This includes data literacy, coding literacy, machine-learning literacy, math literacy, and question/answering (QA) literacy to name a few. You need not be fluent. As posited in, Data Literacy Will Make You Invincible, “You don’t need to speak French to recognize that the email you just received is written in French. You just need to be literate to the point where you know that Google Translate is not going to get the job done and you need a highly skilled French translator to help you interpret and respond to the communication.” 3. Strategy Successful digital transformation starts with a solid, well-thought-out strategy that clearly identifies your business objectives. You are going to accomplish _____. Whether it’s cost cutting or media optimization or product design or customer service, have a strategy that identifies a 21st-century problem and proposes a 21stcentury solution.

Failure is not an option; it is a probability. Part of a successful culture of innovation is an iterative process for testing, failing, learning, reworking, and repeating the process. This is far easier to say than to do. It is especially difficult when an “intrepreneur” has sold in a vision, built a business plan and created a roadmap and then is forced to follow the road, not the map. This is where leadership outplays management. In a true culture of innovation, a leader leads the team in the new direction and leads senior management through the change in plans. Managers, who are destined to fail, try to manage expectations while the team does what it can to serve multiple gods. This situation happens so often it should have its own name. 7. Build a Yellow Brick Road Digital transformation requires all kinds of partnerships. Some will be with old partners, some will be with frenemies, some will be with organizations you could never imagine being partners with. No matter what you call the new form of your digitally transformed organization, it will be based on an extensible platform strategy, and it will empower partners to add value in myriad ways you would never have thought of, or could ever have had time or resources to create. transformation, you will need to build a Yellow Brick Road that leads directly to your door. For example, the Yellow Brick Road for higher education leads to Harvard. The Yellow Brick Road for technology leads to Silicon Valley. Movies … Hollywood. Advertising … Madison Avenue. Finance … Wall Street. Build a Yellow Brick Road to your organization and the world’s best and brightest will follow it straight to you. Adapt or Die! You can take your time, but understand that today you are experiencing the slowest rate of technological change you will ever experience for the rest of your life. You really don’t have time to wait. Digital transformation will not get cheaper to do and it will not get faster to do. This is the part where you push back and say, “Technology gets faster and cheaper and is doing so at an accelerating rate – that’s why we have to digitally transform. We can wait until we are ready or until we are forced to do it.” While everything in the preceding quote is true, the inherent problem is that it will not only be true for you, it will be true for all of your competitors and every startup that’s gunning for a piece of your world. By then, it will be too late. Remember your Darwin: “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” In other words, adapt or die!
