DURING 15 MINUTES, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO PRESIDENT TRUMP?
Hilbert Morales EL OBSERVADOR If President Trump agreed to listen to you without interruption for 15 minutes, what would you say? One individual said, “I would not waste my time because Trump does not listen to anyone like me who would tell him what he does not want to hear.” For example, before this newly elected President could be fully oriented to the full scope of what was in the TransPacific Pact, he withdrew America from that accord which was crafted by the Obama Administration. Withdrawal from TPP was used to demonstrate his authority and power as the President of America. China will fill this vacuum revealing the main weakness of his administration whose recently appointed advisors are mostly billionaires already or military men who may be agents for the military-industrial complex about which former President Eisenhower forewarned us. This view is underscored by that military aid agreement valued at $110 Billion which was signed with Arabian leaders recently. Trump's proposed
2018 Federal Budget gives the Pentagon $54 Billion budget increase when all other federal agencies are being cut back. So any and all communities which have industries which have Pentagon contracts will have jobs creating the materials which are rapidly used up protecting American interests throughout this world. I would use his personal needs to be praised as a winner. Trump has an extraordinary need to win...even when the facts say otherwise (e.g., Hillary earned the national vote by some three million votes); Trump won the electoral college votes which elected him as our 45th President. And so, during my 15 minutes with the President I would approach as follows: “Mr. President, it is my contention that doing what it takes to implement the 'trickle up economic theory' which takes care of distribution of wealth (earned as living wages' by America's middle class and working class folks)...that would change things in so many favorable ways that you would become immortalized by the world's economists and other world leaders. Consider with great care that discretionary money in the family budgets of 100,000,000 middle class whose wages have not
increased in purchasing power since the 1970’s Reagan Administration. Their consumer choices would invigorate the American Consumer economy in so many ways. All sorts of goods and services would need to be produced to meet this renewed economic demand which made 'America Great' during the past Marshall Plan days post-WWII. This level of domestic economic activity would enrich your billionaire friends as well as deliver increased tax revenues which would reduce the National debt and enable investment in America's infrastructural projects. These projects, when adequately underwritten, would put many working class folks back to gainful employment doing work which increases American productivity. Everybody would feel good about being 'fully employed' again...with the purpose to 'keeping America Great'.” “Mr. President: Think of all the jobs Americans would have in 'clean sustainable energy enterprises' which could fulfill the 'clean power demands' using wind and solar energy technology. These workers would greatly benefit by your leadership in the Paris Accord. Don't you already know that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has already
made America, Canada and Mexico the worlds epicenter of 'clean sustainable energy' which dwarfs the carbonbased energy existing in the Middle East or anywhere else.” “The secret to your success, Mr. President, is in the American labor force, which is still the most productive, innovative, and creative in this global economy. Consider all of the innovations which American science and technology initiated...and which is being reversed engineered by offshore economies who are 'copy-cats'.” “Mr. President, your focus needs to be upon 'taking care of the American working class which makes things happen here and abroad. Bottom line decision making must be coupled with 'societal stewardship' which takes care of all of us. Recall that HP was created in a garage; not in the HP Board Room. The insights of Gates are at the base of Apple; the creative innovations based upon human needs are developed by many start-ups wherein a small group of focused technically trained individuals develop ideas into 'devices' which can be 'monetized' at great profits while meeting consumer needs.” “Why deport all those
undocumented residents in America today when it is their willingness to work hard that enables them to support their family? Why invest in a WALL when the same investment in America's infrastructure will give this nation a great return on investments made?” “Mr. President: You already know that your recreational properties would not amount to anything if it were not for committed staff and entertainers who work creatively to yield ambiances which are enjoyable and memorable. What would Trump Properties amount to if it were not for those employees who create that value which is transformed into wealth?....This does not happen in the Board Rooms of America, does it? So, Mr. President: Begin to take care of America's working class... for it is here that American ingenuity and productivity exists which earns profits.” “Mr. President...take care of the American people so that they may take care of this American nation as they have done since the Declaration of Independence and have given their consent to be governed under the laws based upon the ideals embodied in the U.S. Constitution....That is your path to greatness, Mr. President, for which you will receive many accolades.”

Actualmente formamos parte de una alianza con los Centros para el Control y Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC) con organizaciones que representa a las poblaciones más afectadas por el VIH/ SIDA. Mi misión, nuestra misión, es reducir el número de personas infectadas y buscar que aquellas que son portadoras obtengan tratamiento y permanezcan bajo cuidado médico. ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que pensaste sobre el peligro del VIH en el mundo o en
tu comunidad? Si eres un hombre o mujer joven entre 13-24 años, las estadísticas son alarmantes. Existe una probabilidad del 20 por ciento de que tú serás infectado con el VIH. El virus puede permanecer latente en tu cuerpo durante 10 años sin mostrar rastros de enfermedad, hasta que los síntomas empiezan a manifestarse: Aumento de las glándulas linfáticas, fatiga, depresión, fiebre, infecciones de hongos en boca y vagina, sudores nocturnos, diarrea y pérdida de apetito, memoria y peso. Por eso es importante que tomes acción. Una de las medidas que puedes tomar para protegerte a ti y a los demás es hacerte la prueba del VIH. Piensa de esta manera: ¿Por qué me siento tan confiado/a de que no tengo el VIH? La única manera

Questions Parents Aren't Asking When Seeking Child-Care Providers
to perform life-saving skills such as CPR and have staff that has passed background checks. Robertson also says parents should understand the facility's policy on disciplining. She says parents should ask providers how they will help develop their children's social and emotional skills. "Are they able to choose areas they want to play in?" she asks. "Are they able to make choices of what they want to do, toys they want to play with, other children they want to play with?" These areas are important, but so is affordability. Choosing the right childcare provider can be a daunting task for parents. Questions left unasked while picking the right facility can rear their heads down the road in unwanted ways. That's why Susan Robertson, lead quality child-care consultant for IdahoSTARS in Idaho Falls, has some advice for parents looking to get it right for the most precious person in their lives. The list is long and varies depending on parents' priorities, but Robertson says one of the keys to figuring out more is
JUNE 2 - 8, 2017 says parents can get help. Low-income families can apply for child-care assistance through the Idaho Child Care Program. Scholarships also are available to parents. Overall, Robertson says it's best to trust your gut when choosing the right provider. "The provider should be able to answer these questions, and if they're not answering them to how the parent feels that they should, then that may not be the place for them because not every child will fit in every program," explains Robertson. "They should be picky." She suggests parents call 211 for provider referrals.

Weddings can be very expensive, so it’s understandable that couples want everything to go according to plan! Unfortunately, it isn’t always easy. Weddings have many moving parts: planners, venues, officiants, caterers, cakes, DJs, dresses and tuxedos, limos, photographers and more. No wonder they’re so expensive! Things can go wrong for a few reasons; honest mistakes are inevitable, but there are also dishonest individuals and businesses that will wreak havoc on your special day. You can avoid the latter by always doing your research on bbb.org to find a business you can trust, and considering the following advice: 1. Exercise restraint at wedding expos. At a wedding expo, you might be presented with one-day deals or discounts for advance payment. Watch out for high pressure sales tactics, read all contracts carefully, and make sure to get three estimates for anything before signing on the dotted line. Keep a level head and don’t act on emotion! 2. Find the perfect venue. The venue is usually the most expensive part of a wedding. Make sure to visit many locations and get multiple estimates so you can compare costs and amenities. Ask questions! Can you bring your own alcohol or caterer? What’s the parking situation? Who is responsible for flowers and decorations? Know if there are unexpected costs such as “platesplitting”, “cake-cutting” or “corkage” fees. There may be fees beyond the cost-per-person, gratuities and room rental. If you’re hiring your

own caterer, do your research at bbb.org to find one you can trust. Read the contract very carefully before signing. 3. Get down with a great DJ. In 2016, more than 150 complaints were filed with BBB nationwide about musicians and DJs. Complaints include being charged unexpected fees and late appearances. Ask for references from friends and family and do your research on bbb.org; you shouldn’t just rely on a website, demo tape or phone conversation. Ask who will actually perform at the reception and get a written commitment from the band or musician, including the amount of time they will play and costs to extend the time the night of the event. Work with the DJ ahead of time on what songs you want them to play.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Leading experts on philanthropy are urging big foundations to get off the sidelines of the health care debate. They're calling for amplified voices to address the deep Medicaid cuts in President Trump's new budget proposal and the American Health Care Act. A policy brief from the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy urged funders to get engaged - especially those who advocate for better health outcomes across all races and income levels. Kevin Prindiville, executive director with the nonprofit legal advocacy group Justice in Aging, said it isn't enough to simply react if Congress manages to overturn Obamacare. "It is absolutely critical that funders get involved right now," Prindiville said. "This is the moment where we need advocacy, where we need action, because the stakes could not be higher." On Wednesday May 24th, the Congressional Budget office said the latest version of the AHCA would cause 23 million Americans
to lose health insurance over the next ten years. But supporters of the bill say it will bring down the deficit, lower premiums for younger people, and free consumers from the government mandate to buy health insurance. Daniel Zingale, senior vice president with a private foundation called the California Endowment, said his organization is supporting dozens of groups that are helping vulnerable people make their voices heard. "We have a responsibility to make sure those 20-plus million people are included in the conversation," Zingale said. "Their experiences should be brought to the attention of policymakers. We need to hear from the people who have the most at stake in some of the things that are threatening to happen from Washington, D.C. " Zingale noted that the AHCA would allow insurance companies to charge people ages 50-64 up to five-times more than younger people for their health coverage. And it would no longer force insurers to take a person's ability to pay into account when setting premiums.

Almost every single expert had the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers once again matching up in the NBA Finals, even before the season began. The Warriors revamped by adding Kevin Durant, while keeping their core of Curry, Klay, and Draymond intact. The Cavaliers return as the defending champs, with the best player in the world in Lebron James. This time around, it is going to be a true rubber match, with each team taking home the elusive Larry O’brien Trophy in the past two years. In 2015, the Golden State Warriors defeated a depleted Cavaliers squad without two of its best players in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. Then in the following year, the Cavaliers completed arguably the greatest comeback in Finals history. The only asterisk being that the Warriors lost Draymond for a game due to suspension, with injury ailing Curry, Iguodala, and Bogut. This year there are no excuses for either squad. They come in fully loaded and healthy. Both teams want to prove they are better than their counterpart. This NBA Finals could not have been set up any better. The Golden State Warriors, the most talented roster in the league, come into the match undefeated in the playoffs
this year. They have played excellent ball all year, both offensively and defensively, and are the prohibited favorites. Some odds makers have them at as high as a 90% chance to win. The Cavaliers are also entering the championship round playing their best ball of the year. Their defense has picked up in the playoffs, and their offense has been nearly unstoppable en route to only one defeat up to this point in the playoffs. This will be a clash of two basketball juggernauts. This matchup is filled with storylines. Will the Warriors make good on the expectations set after signing Kevin Durant? Will the Cavaliers prove that last year’s win was no fluke? The individual storylines are just as good. Will Steph play up to the MVP caliber form we know he is capable of ? Will Kevin Durant come up big on the biggest stage, win that elusive first title and prove he made the right decision in the last offseason? Or will Lebron build further on his legacy as he continues to try to close the gap on MJ for the title of greatest of all time? The result of this NBA Finals may very well shape how we look back on the last few years of basketball. Will we remember this stretch as a Warrior’s story or a Cavalier’s story? Either way, the culmination of the last few years has led to one of the most hyped and intriguing Finals of all time. My prediction, the Warriors win in 6.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – With the official opening of the summer boating season scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend, the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department would like to remind boaters to practice safe boating on County Reservoirs. Equipping recreational vessels with proper safety equipment, being mindful of state boating laws, avoiding alcohol, and checking weather conditions can decrease the chances of a boating accident. Below are some tips that will help boaters have a safe boating experience: Life Jackets are a Must: There must be a properly fitted life jacket on your vessel for each person. Children under the age of 13, all personal watercraft riders, paddleboarders, and anyone being towed behind a boat are required by law to wear a lifejacket. Emergency Equipment: In the event of an emergency, boaters should have the following equipment in order to expedite a rescue: • Flares and an emergency position indicating radio beacon with 406 MHz capabilities. • A GPS unit, or at a minimum, boaters should maintain knowledge of local waters and know their location at all times. • An operational marine VHF radio. VHF channel 16 is an emergency only channel. Boating Laws: In order to ensure a safe and enjoyable boating experience, it is important for all boaters to know and follow California’s boating laws. These laws may be found in the ABCs of
California Boating booklet. Weather Conditions: Boaters should check current and forecasted weather conditions prior to getting underway, and remain aware of changing conditions once on the water. • The National Weather Service broadcasts weather conditions throughout the day on VHF channel WX2. • The Coast Guard broadcasts weather conditions on VHF channel 22A at 9:30 a.m., noon, and 4:30 p.m. Vessel Safety Inspection: A safety inspection can ensure vessels are properly equipped with the recommended and required equipment. SACRAMENTO – El Senado Estatal de California aprobó miércoles el Proyecto de Ley SB100 del Presidente pro Tempore del Senado, Kevin de León (D-Los Ángeles), el cual encamina a California hacia el 100 por ciento de energías renovables para el año 2045. La medida fue aprobada con un voto de 25-13. “Cuando se trata de nuestro aire puro y el cambio climático, no bajaremos la guardia.” Declaró el Líder del Senado De León. "Hoy hemos superado la meta más ambiciosa del mundo para expandir las energías limpias y poner a los californianos a trabajar. Ahora más que nunca, es fundamental que redoblemos el liderazgo climático al enterarnos de que el Presidente piensa retirarse del acuerdo de París. Independientemente de lo que haga Washington, California mostrará el camino a seguir. Concern for the health and well-being of the planet has always been part of the biblical tradition. “Sacred Scripture calls believers to care for God’s creation and all of God’s children,” reports the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), an assembly of church leaders from across the country. “God calls us as His stewards to care for the garden He created.”
“As a chemist by background and with a team of scientists and an observatory at the Vatican, the Pope is clear that climate change is the greatest threat life our Earth has ever seen—and that it is caused by humans,” reports Earth Ministry, a non-profit dedicated to engaging the faith community in environmental stewardship and advocacy. “And as a priest, he stands in protection and care for his flock, 1.2 billion Catholics world-wide, and for all God’s children, especially the poorest.”
Examples abound through the centuries of influential Catholics taking conservation seriously, from St. Francis’ 1225 canticle dedicated to praising the Lord through stewardship of “Sister Mother Earth / who sustains and governs us” to Pope Paul VI’s 1971 call for Catholics to take up the mantle of environmental protection as a key social imperative to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops 2001 “pastoral statement.” That implored Catholics around the world to do their part in reining in greenhouse gas emissions for “the future of God's creation and the one human family.” More recently, Pope Francis has prioritized climate as a key social concern of the Catholic church. His 2015 “encyclical”—an important papal letter that gets distributed to Catholic congregations around the world—called for
An important part of the battle against global warming for Francis is the relationship between global poverty and environmental destruction: When people don’t have the resources to sustain themselves they are far less likely to be good stewards of the planet, and in turn may suffer the most from a quickly warming climate. And unlike some of his predecessors, Pope Francis isn’t afraid to mix it up with politicians. He bestowed a copy of the 2015 encyclical upon a visiting President Trump earlier this month— just before Trump’s self-imposed deadline to decide whether or not to keep the United States in the Paris climate accord. Catholicism is hardly the only major religion concerned about climate change. After all, global warming is non-denominational,

affecting people all over the world regardless of their religious beliefs. Whether or not a given religion’s national or global leadership is pushing for carbon mitigation, individual congregations can do their part based on the priorities of their memberships. LOVE AND LIFE: LA SANTA CECILIA
Alex Bendana of La Santa Cecilia Talks Music History, Mexico, and the New Live Album in Latin American music history in order to film videos for each of their 12 tracks. Of those songs, 11 are covers of classic Mexican and Latin American songs that range from boleros, corridos, and rancheras. The original song the band wrote for “Amar y Vivir” is a ballad called “Como Dios Mande”.

Ever since the Los Angeles based band La Santa Cecilia won the coveted Grammy in 2014 (Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album for “Treinta Días”) they have been touring, creating and collaborating. Alex Bendana, the band's bassist, certainly agrees with how things have been moving for the 4-piece group. “It’s been a busy couple of years. We’ve been definitely traveling more throughout the United States, been reaching out a lot to Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, a lot of doors have been opening up for us.” Their newest project, the live audiovisual recording “Amar Y Vivir”, is a step into the past as well as an evolution of La Santa Cecilia, according to Bendana. “[It's] everything that we’ve worked for and done for our music, and it’s so great that we can see the band growing and evolving and connecting with a lot of different places.” For this album the band traveled to Mexico City to record, sticking to legendary locations
Bendana says that going to Mexico and focusing “Amar Y Vivir” on the traditional music of their heritage is partly for their own reflection purposes, and how their beginnings in California came from the exposure of growing up with Mexican and Latin music from the past. “Being a band from LA we always dreamt that we wanted to reach out to Mexico. The way it came about was that for a long time we wanted to make a traditional album with boleros, rancheras, huapangos, we always had the urge to do that.” With this in frame, the group looked into the possibility of recreating that live band street experience. “So why don’t we go and capture the essence of playing it live, doing this record live,” says Bendana “We wanted to make an album that was kind of like an homage to this great Mexican music and Latin American music so we were talking about it with our producer, (Latin & regular Grammy award-winning Sebastian Krys), he suggested, ‘if you’re gonna go, why go to the studio, so many people have made these traditional albums in the studio.'” So it was in this decision when the members of La Santa Cecilia, Lead singer Marisol "La Marisoul" Hernandez, Accordionist and Requinto player Jose "Pepe" Carlos, Percussionist Miguel "Oso" Ramirez and Bassist Alex Bendana finalized the feeling of their album. It would be a throwback to not only their roots of musical history and a homage to it, but a look back at their own start, playing in the streets, at fairs, weddings and plazas in Los Angeles.

Over the course of five days the team recorded the new material, twelve songs at different sites around Mexico City, home to a fervent street food scene, passionate Catholic religion, and the musical history La Santa Cecilia was trying to emulate in their own unique style. The locations included Plaza Garibaldi, the Zócalo and Salón Tenampa. Bendana adds, “It was just amazing. To be able to go to Garibaldi, places where José Alfredo Jiménez would sing, or would probably write songs. So for us to just be there and record these songs in different locations was incredible. I think that’s the beauty of this album: that it’s live, it’s in Mexico City, you’re not only going to be able to listen to it but you’re also going to be able to see it, because we also had a video production team, and they captured it visually. So it’s a pretty amazing project considering the fact that we just did it live. So you’ll be able to hear it and and see it.” More than an homage, Bendana relates that the album resonates with who they are as a group and the experience of growing up as Latinos. “These songs taught us how to feel, how to fall in love and fall out of love. How to get over love. These songs that teach us a lot about being Latino, and for us to be able to record it and have this generation listen to

this music and hopefully fall in love with it all over again, it’s a great thing.” This year the band celebrates their decade of being together, and Bendana says part of this project involved an organic approach that brought them back to their creative beginnings, a nostalgia laden music making process. “A lot of those songs, they come from us really just playing them at a hangout or something, or hanging out with one of our members at their house doing a little carne asada, having a couple beers and eventually we’ll bust out the guitar and start playing one of these songs. That’s where most of these songs really came out of. It’s 'Una noche de bohemia’ for us.” Bendana says that they are happy with the final product, and hope listeners and fans are as well. “It’s a traditional Bolero album with a lot of feeling. It’s a live album, it will take you back or [have you] fall in love with this type of music, traditional Mexican music. It's just a part of who we are, and we’re opening our hearts and sharing that world that we grew up with and hopefully people will appreciate it and keep this music going, keep it alive.” “Amor Y Vivir” is out now. A LOOK AT CABARET WITH CAST MEMBER JON PETERSON

Arturo Hilario El Observador Jon Peterson first began his journey into the performance arts when he was just seven years old. Since his beginnings with the Royal Ballet School in London he's starred in performances ranging from “Singing in the Rain” to “The Rocky Horror Show”. His most recent project has him taking on the legendary “Emcee” character in the Tony Award-winning production “Cabaret”, which comes to Broadway San Jose from June 6-11. This is Peterson's seventh time being involved with “Cabaret”, bringing his total time with the show's different versions to 15 years. In the following Q&A we discuss what it's like being part of the play, its evolution and how the story connects history and now. Hello Jon, would you give us a hint on how you ended up getting into theater arts? I always wanted to do it. I used to watch those old MGM musicals when I was a kid, on Sunday afternoons when I was about five and I just fell in love with them. I wanted to be Gene Kelly. Then I started taking dancing classes then subsequently acting classes and then I sort of ended up doing it. I went to the Royal Ballet School in London for a long time because they thought I was good enough to be a ballet dancer but I didn’t want to be a ballet dancer. I was there for 8 years then I stopped doing ballets and went into musicals, I was 17.
In your own opinion, what is the core of the story of “Cabaret”? It’s basically about a young guy called Cliff, who's an American young writer who goes to Berlin to find a story, find inspiration to write a book and this is 1930. And when he goes to Berlin he just gets sucked into this world of hedonism, [at] this backstreet club called the Kit Kat Klub. he makes friends with a girl called Sally Bowles who is a singer in the nightclub. They fall in love, they shack up together, he’s trying to find himself, he’s kind of not sure of his sexuality so he’s experimenting. And it’s their story, but it’s also the story of the elderly owner of the boarding house in which they live, Fräulein Schneider and her romance with the local fruit shop owner, Herr Schultz who's Jewish, and all the consequences of that at that time. All through this play there’s the creeping onset of fascism raising its ugly head, in 1933 when Hitler came to power, so it’s all leading up to that.

camps, been witness to the whole of World War II. I have a friend and she was on the original production on Broadway, and she said that someone stood up in the audience during the original production and shouted, ‘they killed my father!’, so it hit close to him. So they had to be a little bit more poetic about it back then. Also the morals at the time, we were a little more buttoned up in those days so we couldn’t really go for the the truth of the stories, the backstreet, tawdry Berlin nightclub where anything goes. In this production we can show that anything goes. In the 1966 production is a lot more ‘referred to’ than displayed, not that this one is graphic, it’s just a modern interpretation of the show. Finally, why should people go out and experience “Cabaret”?
play with music that displays the craft of the theater, how it can affect you and change the way you think, you should maybe go see it I think. It’s a quite a remarkable experience. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be shocked, appalled. It will take you through every emotion, it’s quite a remarkable piece. It’s sort of relevant to today, with the shift to the right that we’ve taken, politically. It’s a real model lesson in, ‘don’t judge people, don’t prosecute minorities because you’re no better them, and if you do this is the consequence.' That’s why you need to come see show. Pretty much exactly the same, they may have pulled back a little, just because when you throw it out there and you see how it lands, and I think they’ve had a chance to go, ‘oh, let’s tweak that, put this here and take this line and put it here.’ very subtle changes. But compared to the original production, it’s very different. Back in the sixties we were a little closer to World War II so people [were] coming to the show that had been in concentration

Y además de extender el proyecto río arriba hasta Tully Road, la propuesta modificación al proyecto cambiará el blanco de protección de 1%, o 100-años, de nivel de inundación, a protección contra inundaciones equivalentes a la inundación del 21 de febrero, 2017 (aproximadamente un evento de 20 a 25) años. La propuesta modificación también incluye soluciones de alivio a inundaciones de corto plazo, que se puedan permitir y que no agraven inundaciones en otros lugares.

El alcance actual del proyecto es aproximadamente 6.1 millas entre Montague Expressway y la Autopista 280. La propuesta modificación extendería el alcance del proyecto aproximadamente 2.9 millas río arriba del Autopista 280 hasta Tully Road para incluir al vecindario de Rock Springs e incorporar las áreas afectadas por la inundación de Coyote Creek del 21 de febrero, 2017 (ver mapa).

El Proyecto de Protección contra Inundaciones de Coyote Creek (Proyecto de Coyote Creek), está localizado en la porción central de la Cuenca Coyote en el cause principal de Coyote Creek, dentro de la Ciudad de San José. El objetivo primario del proyecto es reducir el riesgo de inundaciones a casas, escuelas, negocios, y autopistas en el plano de inundaciones de Coyote Creek.
