Hilbert Morales EL OBSERVADOR The Alum Rock Community organization, which calls itself the “Community For Better Alum Rock Schools” and its allies planned to oppose efforts to oust ARUSD Superintendent Hilaria Bauer during ARUSD Board Meeting held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Superintendent Hilario Bauer's 'sins' are her efforts to untangle the ARUSD from past scandals related to Del Terra Real Estate (Services contracts). Amongst the Community For Better ARUSD Schools allies were San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo and the Honorable Blanca Alvarado (former Supervisor, County of Santa Clara); several families whose children attend ARUSD, and members of the community. A coalition of elected officials, educators, advocates, parents and students have come together to oppose this attempted ouster of Superintendent Hilaria Bauer, and once again demand transparency, consistency and accountability from their school board. (EO's Note: Three ARUSD Board members, {Esau Herrera; Khanh Tan; and Dolores Marquez}, have been voting as a block for actions which allegedly contributed to this situation; the Nay votes

Dr. Bauer has been a refreshing voice of leadership who has sought to distance the School District from the (allegedly) corrupt dealings involving Del Terra Real Estate and the legally-questionable management of District bond program (which exceeds $425 million). While rumors have swirled for months that the Board’s majority was maneuvering to dismiss Dr. Bauer as a smoke-screen to the Del Terra (Real Estate Services contract) controversy. Tonight’s special Board Meeting's agenda reveals that the Board will be formally considering the “dismissal, discipline of release” of the Superintendent (Item 2.03 under “Closed Session” of the meeting agenda). This comes at a time when the (ARUSD) board’s (alleged) fiscal mismanagement is under investigation (by the SCCo District Attorney Jeff Rosen since September 2017). At this time ARUSD constituent's trust in this board's (integrity) is at an all-time low. During an exclusive phone interview with EO's columnist Hilbert Morales, Ms. Blanca Alvarado said, “The quickest way to change things at ARUSD's School Board is for the ARUSD's constituency to not re-elect Esau Herrera and Khanh Tan, who are both up for re-election this year; Dolores Marquez does not come up for

re-election for two more years; until 2020.” ARUSD voters have an immediate opportunity to elect two replacements who would make different decisions regarding the use of the Bond Funds intended to improve facilities and instructional environments for their ARUSD students. ARUSD constituents, (whose 10,634 kids attend as students), need to plan to vote this coming election day, June 5, 2018. “That would change things at ARUSD immediately,” per Ms. Blanca Alvarado. SJ Mayor Sam Liccardo and former Supervisor Blanca Alvarado both had spoken in support of the ARUSD constituents efforts to be fully informed and achieve school board transparency, accountability and responsibility at the news conference held on Tuesday, May 29th, 2018 at 11:30 AM at the Alum Rock Union School District (Offices), 2930 Gay Avenue, San Jose, CA 95127. The District’s new legal counsel (Maribel Medina, esq., Legal Trejo law firm), who is believed to be linked to Del Terra Real Estate Services, (allegedly) has been creating a manufactured case for dismissal at the request of Trustees Khanh Tran, Esau Herrera and Dolores Marquez. It has been a year since the extraordinary audit requested by SCCo Office of Education

and the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) revealed ARUSD’s lack of internal controls, an internal auditor and a failure to track bond expenditures. Throughout this year of investigations and legal trouble, the leadership of ARUSD’s Superintendent has been used as (a) political football. “On Friday, May 24th, the Alum Rock Community brought a criminal complaint to the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office and the Fair Political Practices Commission outlining numerous criminal violations (of ) Government Code Sections 1090, 8311.65, 87100, 87300, and Elections code 7054 by the ARUSD Board, Del Terra, and a District (and former Del Terra) employee. The complaints outline the clear conflicts of interest of the contracts Del Terra has with the District and a consistent pattern of corruption by the Board. The Board will have an opportunity to terminate these contracts at this meeting” (of 05.29.2018). The ARUSD administration advised EO that the ARUSD Board reported no action was taken when it reconvened after having a closed session to consider personnel actions (and probably other related matters). And so the stalemate continues at ARUSD. Those voters, who are constituents of ARUSD, have an immediate opportunity to change the makeup of

their school board in a very democratic manner. EO's recommendation is to base your personal votes upon 'factual, truthful and useful information' which is available in that FCMAT report; in your Voter's Information Manual mailed to each registered voter's home by the SCCo Registrar of Voters; and in the recorded votes documented in ARUSD School Board Minutes. ARUSD's students, who are our community's future, need the very best instructional efforts by the ARUSD's teaching staff. About $425 per student is to be expended improving facilities and instructional environments ($425 x 10,000 students) = $4.25 million authorized by those three school bond issues which were supported by ARUSD constituents in past elections. Do what it takes to get the most value out of those past community decisions to improve your kids future by improvements in their education environment. And since kids learn from our actions as adults, let's try to present the best adult behavior coupled with evidenced based decision making by stakeholders who live in the Alum Rock Community. The best improvements come from your own residents who want the best for their kids and their future. José López Zamorano La Red Hispana La administración del presidente Donald Trump reconoció la semana pasada ante el Congreso haber perdido el seguimiento de por lo menos 1,475 niños migrantes, oficialmente llamados “Unacompanied Children (UAC), que habían llegado solos a la frontera y entregados con patrocinadores adultos en los Estados Unidos. Se trata de una cifra preliminar, toda vez que el número fue estimado de una encuesta de 7,000 casos de menores de edad no acompañados que llegaron a la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México, quedaron bajo custodia oficial, fueron asignados primero al Departamento de Salud (HHS), y después enviados a hogares patrocinadores por decisión de la Oficina de Reubicación de Refugiados (ORR).

De acuerdo con estadísticas oficiales, la mayoría (más del 80%) de los hogares que reciben a los niños corresponden a familiares cercanos, incluso padres. Es posible que algunos adultos no hayan respondido a la encuesta por temor a perder la custodia de los menores, por lo que no necesariamente los niños están desaparecidos o en riesgo inminente. El resto de los casos corresponde a hogares sin vinculación con el menor. El HHS entregó el año fiscal 2017 a unos 40,000 menores migrantes no acompañados a hogares patrocinadores. Así hayan sido entregados a familiares o no, resulta francamente inaceptable que el gobierno federal de los Estados Unidos no use los recursos a su alcance para encontrar a esos menores de edad, así sea tocando la puerta de todos y cada uno de los hogares que

recibieron la custodia de los niños. EL HHS sostiene que no tiene responsabilidad legal de dar seguimiento a los casos una vez que son asignados. Una sociedad mide su autoridad moral de muchas maneras, pero una de las más importantes es la forma en la que sus instituciones tratan a los más vulnerables entre nosotros. Y no hay duda de que a esa categoría corresponden los menores de edad, especialmente, aquellos que viajan solos. Desafortunadamente la administración Trump ha decidido que la mejor estrategia para reducir el reciente incremento de inmigrantes centroamericanos a los Estados Unidos es a través de la criminalización del fenómeno migratorio, as través de la nueva política de “tolerancia cero” anunciada por el procurador general Jeff Sessions.

No sólo los inmigrantes cargan el peso de llegar a los Estados Unidos huyendo de la violencia, las pandillas y la pobreza, o todo lo anterior, sino ahora enfrentarán cargos criminales en los Estados Unidos. Por si fuera poco, en el caso de las familias migrantes, pende la amenaza de las autoridades estadounidenses de separar a los menores de sus padres. Tiene razón el legislador Adriano Espaillat cuando afirma que esta es una crisis de derechos humanos. ¿Dónde están los niños? ¿Cómo están los niños? La respuesta deberíamos saberla todos, la sociedad, el Congreso, el sistema interamericano de derechos humanos, las Naciones Unidas. Se trata de una obligación moral ineludible para todos. • Always double check licensing and insurance. In California, any contractor working on a project that is valued at $500 or more for labor and materials must hold a license from the Contractors State License Board (CSLB). CSLB licenses contractors in 44 different classifications, so verify that the contractor holds a license for the work you are having done. You can check the status of a license on CSLB’s website. It’s also important to verify that they’re insured – ask to see a copy of their Certificate of Insurance, or ask for the name of the insurance carrier and agency to verify independently. • Inquire about a lien waiver. A lien waiver is a statement from your contractor that says all suppliers and subcontractors have been paid for

their work. • Get it in writing. Always get estimates in writing and never let any work begin without a written and signed contract. Do not be pressured into signing an agreement before you are ready, and make sure you read and understand everything before signing. The contract should include contact information, start and completion dates, and a detailed description of the exact work to be done, any material costs, payment arrangements, and warranty information. Specify who is to obtain necessary building permits and who is responsible for clean-up. Make sure all verbal promises are included in the contract. It’s also important to ask questions such as information on the subcontractors, how much work will be subcontracted, and any other questions you may not understand on the contract. Never sign an incomplete or partially blank contract. • Ask for multiple quotes. You should always shop around and get at least three quotes from different businesses. Make sure all bids consider the same set of criteria. Remember that the lowest bid may not necessarily be the best bid; if one bid is significantly lower than the others are, the contractor may be cutting corners or may not understand your work requirements. SCC SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF.— On Tuesday May 29 the County of Santa Clara led a nationwide coalition to fight the Trump Administration’s efforts to roll back women’s access to cost-free contraception. Together with the City of Oakland and 15 other cities, counties, and local agencies across the nation, the County filed an amicus brief urging the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold a preliminary injunction that blocks new rules that would undermine the Affordable Care Act’s guarantee of cost-free insurance coverage for birth control. “Santa Clara County has a long history of supporting access to contraception,” said Joe Simitian, President of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. “We support contraception access as a matter of policy, through the health plans we provide our employees, and through the medical services we provide and contract for. We’re not prepared to simply stand by while the federal government strips away health care and family planning protections our residents rely on.” “We believe in women to make the best decisions for themselves and their families,” said Supervisor Cindy Chavez, who represents Central, East, and South San Jose. “So we will keep fighting for our healthcare choices and making sure services are available.” “Yet again, the Trump Administration

has shown its complete disregard for the law and the rights of women,” said Santa Clara County Counsel James R. Williams. “These radical new rules were pushed through without following federal law, and they are flatly contrary to both the Affordable Care Act and bedrock principles of separation of church and state.” The sweeping new rules issued by the Trump Administration would dramatically expand exemptions to Affordable Care Act’s birth control coverage requirement for employers who claim to have moral or religious objections to contraception. If the rules are allowed to take effect, many women will lose insurance coverage for birth control, increasing costs for local governments like the County of Santa Clara that provide no- and low-cost contraceptive services and medical care associated with unintended pregnancies. The Trump Administration issued the new rules in October 2017 and made them effective immediately, without providing any opportunity for input from the public. The States of California, Delaware, Maryland, New York, and Virginia sued over the rules and obtained a preliminary injunction halting their implementation. The amicus brief authored by the County of Santa Clara and City of Oakland urges the Ninth Circuit to affirm that injunction and argues that the rules would cause substantial harm to local governments that provide safety-net services related to family planning and unintended pregnancies.

Q&A: JONATHAN FLEMING & THE PATH TO DISTRICT 7 Arturo Hilario El Observador

District and City do not feel safe where they live, and we demand better.

Jonathan Fleming is a San Jose resident and a mechanical engineer who is running for San Jose’s District 7 Council seat. A father and husband, his route to politics has been one guided by his own experiences in the community he says he has a plan to change for the better.

I am one of the few persons in this City who has had the courage to challenge the status quo of City Government by researching and using facts to counter unworkable and highly expensive policies and we have seen the results in our neighborhoods. This is how necessary change is made. My Community supports me in making this necessary change and because of that, we will change City Hall.

District 7 encompasses the center point intersection of Tully Road and Senter Road, and the boundaries are the 280 to the North, King Road to the East, Senter Road to the South and Highway 87 to the West. Fleming’s main focus is on homelessness and housing in District 7 and San Jose as a whole, and how communities, including the homeless residents, can attain better living conditions. Beyond these issues, he believes he is a candidate of transparency; his website is full of information, studies and plans for District 7 that cover many of that community’s issues and observances. Recently Flemings answered some questions in order to give community members and potential voters a look into what his “Fleming Plan” is all about, and why he among other candidates should be given an opportunity to lead District 7 in a new direction. Voting will occur on Tuesday June 5. Tell us about yourself. What is your history and background, and what brought you to living in San Jose? I am a husband and father first. I am married to an amazing Registered Nurse named Kristel and we have the most beautiful 19-month-old daughter in the entire world! I graduated Santa Clara University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and secured a job at a local defense contractor before I graduated. I became the youngest lead vehicle architect at my firm and won many awards and achievements for my leadership and ingenuity, including a recognition from a United States Senator for saving American lives in combat through my engineering design. Almost nine years ago I was the victim of a motor vehicle accident that changed my life forever. A young driver who was speeding, rear ended me on the freeway while I was stopped, resulting in massive

trauma to my spine, and resulting in secondary injuries throughout my body, including temporary blindness, concussion, and chronic pain. I was told that I would not walk again without the aid of assistive devices. I have had 19 surgeries and procedures since, undergone thousands of hours of rehabilitative therapy, and more. As a result, I understand what it is like to lose everything and to have to fight with all you have to get it back. I was cast aside, had my health insurance taken away from me, and was told I did not qualify for the support programs that were allegedly in place as my physical and emotional pain became increasingly worse. Only through strength in God, the love of my incredible wife, parents, sisters, family, friends, teachers, medical providers, and our Community, was I able to find myself and make the decision that I would not be defined by the negligence of another. I have a lot to give and to fight for to ensure that the next person in my shoes did not have to endure the same torment as I. I do not know the definition of the word “quit,” so I persevered and overcame until I could walk again without help. I created my own small engineering business and have continued moving forward by focusing on improving the quality of life for all of my Community members in District 7. Can you give some insight into how you became interested in running? Was there a particular experience or moment that led you to join the District 7 race?

As part of my physical therapy two years ago, while walking around our neighborhoods, I spoke with a boy who was crying because he cut his leg on syringe after going down the slide at the La Ragione Tot Lot. His mother couldn’t pay for an ambulance and I knew we had to make a change. So, I became very active in our Community and founded the Senter Monterey Neighborhood Association. Afterwards, I recognized that our diverse District needed to come together and work to solve the many problems we were faced with, so I founded the District 7 Leadership Group. Our District needed a leader at City Hall to advocate for all of us, so I volunteered to be a Neighborhoods Commissioner and was unanimously elected as Vice Chair of the Neighborhoods Commission last year. It doesn’t matter what you look like, what gender or ethnicity you are, we are ALL equal, and it is time we had a Councilmember who understands that and fights for us all. I am committed to our Community and am running for this office because our City, and especially our District, needs real leadership that listens to its residents and isn’t afraid to go against the status quo of the past several years of policies that have continually eroded our quality of life. I am disheartened at seeing our City enable the problems we face every day - problems like homelessness, crime, housing, trash, and terrible road conditions. I am running because the residents of my

You’re big on transparency, with you being the only candidate in the District 7 race with access to endorsement applications and questionnaires, as well as a breakdown of your positions on issues. Why do you feel this was something that you needed to provide? I believe that transparency is important in this election. For too many years now, District 7 has elected representatives who do not have a plan for fixing the problems we face, or even worse, who lie about their verbal campaign promises. Look at my opponent’s websites and tell me what they stand for and how they will lower the cost of housing, combat crime, fix our streets, and solve homelessness? Will they tax us more to bring about solutions? The truth is that the voters have no clue what they will do because they are hiding the information. Why would you vote for someone who does not write down their plan when your family’s safety is at stake? Another benefit of my campaigns openness and transparency is that all people can see the requirements that special interest groups want in exchange for their endorsement. Such as special access to Councilmembers in closed door sessions without staff present. Remember, these applications were not just sent to me, they were sent to all candidates running in Santa Clara County for every position from Councilmember to Supervisor and more. A voter has the right to understand who they are voting for and to feel confident in their plan. My transparency does that. No other candidate gives the voter that access. District 7 has the worst roads, the dirtiest parks, the highest crime rates, and suffers from the effects of the homeless crisis. The Fleming Plan identifies the causes for these issues and offers solutions for how to combat them. It focuses on creating jobs and building housing by lowering or eliminating excess regulations that make the cost of living unbearable and force so many of our neighbors out of the City. No other candidate has created a plan for our City and District. After publishing The Fleming Plan, I have noticed many of my ideas are being copied by other candidates and by others. Housing and homelessness in particular are two of the most talked about issues between the District 7 candidates. How can these be alleviated? Housing and homelessness go hand in hand. When prices are so high that persons cannot afford the rent on their income, people will either live with friends or choose the homeless route where they can live in their cars or out on the streets and creeks. Subsidy programs generally do not help the middle class. Our government has created this problem and the other candidates in this race will continue that failed approach. For example, the term “affordable housing” is spoken by my opponents, but that really means subsidized housing that further widens the gap between rich and poor while eliminating the middle class. “Affordable housing” costs all new 1,500 square foot housing units around $62,500 in taxes before it can even be built which causes rent to be 25% higher than it should. Add on other permitting fees from the City, County, and State, and it is easy to understand why developers are hesitant to build here, resulting in a supply and demand crisis with the product being skyrocketing housing costs. As a matter of fact, an article was just published that shows the same home built in Texas costs $500,000.00 more to build in San José. Then remember that Texas does not have a state income tax and you see that the CA bureaucrats in office are making things so expensive here that we need a candidate like me to step in and champion common-sense solutions that help us all, especially

I do not believe in the “permanent supportive housing” and “housing first” method of housing the homeless where our City spends around $600,000.00 per studio apartment and then gives it to a homeless person years down the line. In those years of waiting, people are victimized and abused, causing them to turn to drugs and other methods to cope. Unlike my opponents who champion “permanent supportive housing,” I do not believe that giving someone a studio apartment for the rest of their life because they are homeless is a real solution. So many of us have to work two or more jobs just to break even so it does not feel fair to the average voter. The average person is penalized with more expensive living costs to pay for someone else’s ability to get off the streets as referenced above. My plan calls for lowering the restrictions and fees on creating new housing which will lower the costs across the board and increase supply, making housing affordable for every income class, including the homeless who work but cannot afford current housing prices. For the rest of the homeless population, my plan also calls for identifying the homeless population into three categories: those who can be helped, those who cannot, and those who are somewhere in between. Instead of only helping those who cannot be helped, and therefore forcing everyone into that category due to years of neglect, we need to focus on those who can be helped by giving them a purpose again through a job. Our City has a problem with trash and blight, so let’s hire our homeless residents to clean it up. In exchange they get housing, minimum wage, and access to medical benefits to get them back on their feet. Every six months they are evaluated with the hope that they become self-supportive and secure a job outside of this program where they can afford their own housing. This program would have a limit of 12 - 18 months because it is not an entitlement program, it is a rehabilitative program to help our fellow human. What future would you like to see for the communities of District 7? I would love for District 7 to come together and unite under leadership that listens and cares about every single person. For our residents to become more active and to participate in our democracy by making their voices heard. We are the most diverse district in the City and we should be

represented equally, with all of our neighborhoods helping each other to develop solutions to the problems we face every day. I want our roads to be fixed and out parks to be clean and safe. I want our Police department doubled so when we call 911 an officer responds immediately. I want our Community members to sit down and have lunch with our officers to break down the walls of misconception and build a stronger Community Police force. I want our residents to feel safe and to be happy. I want there to be a new pride in our District where we do not accept things for how they are but dream about how we want them to be and then act to make that happen. Finally, why should community members going to vote June 5th look towards you as their pick? I believe that District 7 voters should choose me to be their representative because I will stand up for what is right and will not stop until we see a positive change in our Community. All of us deserve to be represented equally and we will be treated the same as more affluent areas of our City. I have

researched the issues and understand how they impact our neighborhoods. I am the only transparent and open candidate who has published a plan for when I take office. All of my campaign funding has come from individuals and therefore, I am not controlled by any special interest, so I will do what is right for our residents. I currently serve as the Vice Chair of the San José Neighborhoods Commission and have built up relationships within the various City departments so on day one of my administration, we will begin solving the problems facing our Community. I want to unite our District and will do so by hosting monthly town hall meetings where we encourage all the leaders of our District to attend and participate. By working hard and obtaining results, we will show our Community members that all of us matter and that we can accomplish anything when we work together. I love the people of our District and our quality of life will improve under my leadership. Please elect me on June 5th and together we will make a difference.

theater influences. I remember being show “The Sound of Music” and live footage of “Cats”, on videocassette! I remember getting in front of the TV and trying to dance all the choreography to “Cats” and just being so mesmerized and so I think my parents always knew I’d do something creative with my life, and they gave me all that encouragement and nourished all that. I started when I was in second grade, I started doing kids theaters through a man named Barrett Lindsay-Steiner, who runs a theater program in the Bay Area called “Standing Ovations”. He really changed my life because I remember I was a rambunctious kid.

Ben Bogen is a New York based actor who initially born and raised in Walnut Creek, California. He attended the University of Michigan where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater. He went on to work in theater in the East Coast, and as of a year ago has been part of the “Jersey Boys” touring production, playing among other things the lead role of Frankie Valli.

I stepped into that theater program and I remember being so frustrated because I couldn’t learn the lyrics to this song, I was so frustrated. My mom was like, “Fine, we’ll take you out of the program.” And for some reason something inside me said, “No, you can do this.” So, I bunkered down, learned the song, did my little audition, [and] did my first play. They’re little spoofs of musicals, like “Princes and the Pizza”, and I remember stepping out on stage at the Jewish Community Center in Walnut Creek, and it was the most exhilarating, most incredible moment of my life. I remember being like, “This is the greatest feeling in the world.”

“Jersey Boys” is the musical chronicle of The Four Seasons, which sees the group as they start up, become a worldwide hit, and all the highs and lows that come with such a trajectory in life.

I remember feeling liking the people so much and thinking these friends were different than the ones at school. From that moment on I was changed forever. I was hooked.

Bogen recently took time to talk about his own chronicles in musical theater, and how much this particular production has meant to him.

How did you get involved with the “Jersey Boys” production?

Could you talk a bit about what it was like growing up in the Bay Area, and how you became interested in the arts? I grew up in Walnut Creek, my whole life I was there from birth through the end of high school, so pretty close to San Jose. My mom is a children’s book author, my dad is a scientist but they both have a very strong appreciation and connection to the arts. My dad sings in an adult choir. My mom she was musical as a kid and has always loved everything in the theater. So, I grew up with a lot of musical and

Last year I kept auditioning and I was supposed to do a production in Connecticut and I was in the final call backs for “Jersey Boys” and hadn't heard anything so I literally packed up my sublet, moved everything out, had nothing left in New York, got to Connecticut, and [getting] off the train got the call from my agent saying I had gotten the “Jersey Boys” national tour. I was like, “Well, what do I do now?” And so, I had to quit this production four days in, because it conflicted with rehearsals. So, I go back to New York, hang out for a few weeks and started rehearsals for a couple of weeks. Then we hit the road in September of last year. We’ve been

touring ever since.

Could you tell me about what you do within the production?

In [Jersey Boys] you see Frankie Valli not be the center of attention, the first big chunk of the show. The show is split up in four different seasons. It starts out in spring and then the summer and fall and winter. Spring is narrated by Tommy DeVito, summer is narrated by Bob Gaudio, fall is narrated by Nick Massi. and winter is narrated by Frankie Valli. And so, when the show is finally handed over to Frankie to narrate, you see him break off and become a solo performer. It’s pretty interesting to see that progression.

Currently in “Jersey Boys” I am a male swing, but also specifically the Frankie Valli understudy, and I now have gone on for the role of Frankie Valli 28 times, which is amazing. Sometimes understudies get to go on once, maybe twice. There used to be another Frankie Valli in the tour who would go on twice a week because the role is so vocally demanding. Because our schedule has been a little bit different so there isn’t that role specified, so there’s me another guy in the ensemble that are the Valli understudies so anytime the main guy is out either one of us goes on. I’m also assistant Dance Captain, so I help maintain the choreography of the show and taking notes from the audience, so that things stay clean and crisp, and look like what the creators had initially set on us. So that aspect of the job is interesting as well. Could you give a quick rundown of what the story of “Jersey Boys” about? It is the story of The Four Seasons, it is about Frankie Valli, before he was the Frankie Valli that we know of today. It was about where he came from, where the other guys came from in his group, how they all became friends and how they all started in a poor neighborhood in New Jersey in the 50’s and how they became a group and had ups and downs and slowly rose to fame as soon as they appeared on American Bandstand. They were ‘insert whatever pop culture phenomenon we have today’. They were even before The Beatles. I can’t think of a band today that was famous in the way they were, but it is interesting because today there are stories of pop culture groups, and one of the performers broke off to become a solo superstar sensation like Beyoncé broke off of Destiny’s Child

Do you have a moment that’s personally your favorite, whether to perform, watch from the side of the stage, or as an audience member? I love the moment when we come out of the red jackets and we’re singing “Sherry”, and it’s kind of the moment the audience is waiting for, and there's so much build up to it. There’s like a 1960’s camera that has a close up of all of our faces and it’s in black and white and its projected onto the screen but it’s twice as big and everyone in the audience sees us performing it live in that moment but it’s in black and white like if it was an old television. It’s so cool, because people see it and they think it’s the footage of The Four Seasons but then they realize it’s actually us being filmed live on stage. Even if I never get to study a part like that ever again, I’ll have had this experience early on and I don’t know, I always take that in because very few shows give you the opportunity to sing like that.
