Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” If 'We, the People' ever become fully engaged, committed, and involved in our governance at all levels, it only takes a few citizens to 'change things' for good or bad. Today, things look bad, but we can change that lawfully with our votes.

“While our attention was focused upon the Trump Administration callous and horrific treatment of migrant children whose parents approached the U.S.-Mexico border to seek asylum, House Republicans quietly revealed their proposed fiscal year 2019 budget. This proposed budget calls for $537 BILLION in reductions to MEDICARE services; $1.5 TRILLION in reductions to MEDICAID programs; and $4 BILLION in cuts to SOCIAL SECURITY ENTITLEMENTS over the next 10 years.”

At every opportunity, Republicans are making health care more expensive for hardworking families – attacking

people with pre-existing conditions, cynically driving up insurance premiums while concurrently handing massive tax breaks to the same pharmaceutical companies raising drug prices.

Republicans are proving once again that they do not care how many people they hurt in their obsession with sabotaging health care.

The Trump Administration proposes suspending a program paying billions of dollars to insurers to stabilize health insurance markets under the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare).

“Any action to stop disbursements under the risk adjustment program will significantly increase 2019 premiums for millions of individuals and small-business owners, and could result in far fewer health plan choices,” said Justine G. Handelman, Senior VP, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. “It will undermine Americans’ access to affordable care, particularly for those who need medical care the most.”

Health insurers warned that a move by the Trump administration to temporarily suspend a program that was set to pay out $10.4 billion to insurers for covering high-risk individuals last year could drive up premium costs and create marketplace uncertainty.

“What you are effectively doing is dismantling pieces of the ACA (ObamaCare) without replacing them,” per consultant Eric Hillenbrand, AlixPartners, “It moves us back to some extent to the status quo where people with pre-existing conditions found it very difficult to get insurance.”

The suspension of these payments (amounting to $10.4 Billion) is the most recent maneuver by the Trump administration to undercut the (ObamaCare

ACA 2010) health-care law that President Trump made his 2016 vowed to demolish.

The Trump Administration has been using executive actions to dismantle it.

(per Mexico's Steel Industry Association), America exported $3.6 billion more to Mexico over the past two years than Mexico sold to U.S.A.!

The American people cannot afford the Republican's raw deal on health care.

Democrats are fighting to give the American people A Better Deal, with lower health costs and better care for all.

In an import/export tariff trade war, the real losers are the unemployed workers here and there, who end up unable to earn wages supporting their families and ability to continue being 'consumers' who make purchases.

Once installed as President, Trump immediately addressed trade agreements made using 'collective bargaining' with America's partners. The Transpacific Trade Pact (TTP-12 nations); the North American Free-Trade Agreement (NAFTA-3 nations); and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO-with European nations) are all being subjected to demeaning commentary followed by each nation being forced into 'bilateral re-negotiations' in which America has advantages. Trump keeps saying 'He can negotiate a better deal for America' which did not happen with China and North Korea. Meanwhile he keeps insulting and abusing allies while praising autocratic leaders of Russia, North Korea, and the Philippines.

Trump has already started an 'import tariff war' with China (2nd largest global economy), NAFTA (Canada and Mexico); and now the European Union. Trump does not understand the import/export relationships which allow American labor to produce goods and services involved. The loss of these export-import markets will create production slowdowns/shutdowns resulting in rising unemployment levels both here and there.

President Trump's selection of Judge Brett Kavanaugh for appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court is not in the best interests of Silicon Valley and the entire working class of America. This ultraconservative judge must not be approved by the U.S. Senate until after Tuesday, November 6, 2018 mid-term election when, hopefully, the U.S. Senate is flipped from RED to BLUE. Why? I personally cannot imagine Mr. Trump and his current Cabinet members having the knowledge and expertise to come up with a very effective dismantling of liberal progressive programs.

President FDR (1936) threatened to pack the U.S. Supreme Court in order to obtain favorable rulings which enabled establishment of Social Security Administration; Works Project Agency (WPA), and Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

The WPA and CCC put the unemployed of 1929's Great

Depression back to work building infrastructural systems (such as the Mississippi 10-foot-deep barge channels which go from New Orleans to Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota and Pittsburg, PA. I can find no major industry which is not being subsidized

by Federal programs. America needs to understand that a 'free-market competitive capitalistic economy does not exist. What has been applied is Democratic Socialism ideology recently used by Alexandria Osorio-Cortez (Bronx, NY), who recently upset incumbent Joe Crowley, who had already served 10 terms and was expected to become the next Democratic Leader following Nancy Pelosi. Democratic-Socialism takes care of 'We, The People' along with those corporate individuals who want to own and control everything.

The only way to “STOP TRUMP AND HIS AGENDA” IS TO PLAN TO VOTE THIS COMING TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2018. Consumers nationwide submitted over 9,000 inquiries about heating and air conditioning companies in 2017. However, BBB also received over 4,000 complaints on heating and air conditioning companies. Complaints varied from being charged up front for a service that was never done, difficulties getting refunds, and misleading estimates.

BBB offers the following advice for maintaining and installing an AC unit: • Choose the unit wisely. Before finding a contractor to install your AC, do your research to determine what brand and model you want to buy. Look at performance, price and energy efficiency. Read the product literature and go online to learn about others’ experiences, including the model’s repair history and how

CHULETAS DE CERDO AL PASTOR CON SALSA DE PIÑA

PARA SERVIR: 1. Precalienta la parrilla de 350 a 375 grados.

2. Deja que las chuletas reposen a temperatura ambiente durante una hora.

3. Engrasa ligeramente el enrejado de la parrilla y coloca encima las chuletas.

4. Ásalas a la parrilla de 16 a 18 minutos.

5. Dales vueltas a las chuletas, dos veces por cada lado, girando 90 grados con cada vuelta para que la parrilla le dé a la carne unas atractivas marcas cruzadas. Usa un termómetro para carne para verificar que la carne esté bien cocida.

6. Retira las chuletas de la parrilla cuando obtengas una lectura de 145 grados F. Déjalas reposar por 10 minutos para que los jugos de la carne se distribuyan bien.

7. Asa las mazorcas de maíz a fuego directo hasta

que se doren levemente y los granos comiencen a reventar en aproximadamente 6 a 8 minutos, dándoles vuelta con frecuencia.

8. Con la ayuda de una brocha de cocina, unta abundante mezcla cremosa a cada mazorca de maíz, cubriéndolas dos o tres veces.

9. Espolvoréalas con el queso y el chile en polvo que reservaste.

Lobster-hauling off Maine becoming a less popular livelihood

are simply less lobsters than there were in the past.

The Gulf of Maine is in the Atlantic Ocean but the Georges Bank and Browns Bank keep the water protected like two jetties under the sea, restricting the flow of the colder water.

According to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, the area is one of the fastestwarming bodies of water on the planet and that temperature change could be making it harder for the lobsters.

There has also been a rise in cases of Epizootic shell disease in the lobsters off the coast of Maine.

This disease, usually not fatal, is caused by bacteria eating away at the shell, causing lesions that make it unmarketable.

This is devastating to the fishing industry and there isn’t a known reason why this disease has become more prevalent.

CJ Gunther EFE Cape Porpoise, USA - Chipper Zeiner has been hauling American lobsters off the East Coast of the United States since 1973, when he was just 11 years old, but in recent years he has noticed a decline in the number of people taking up the practice to earn a living.

Chipper, who has about 600 pots in various sections of the waters off the coast of Maine, heads out into the Atlantic Ocean at 6 am six days a week, hauling in about 200 lobsters each day, a routine depicted in a photo essay released Tuesday by epa-efe.

"You have to love it to do it. If you don't love it you won't be doing it for long.

Many kids today won't do it, it costs too much to get into it," Chipper said.

He hauls the pots in four-day rotations, one at a time, checking the catch, releasing the shorts, eggers and longs, before re-baiting and moving onto the next one.

"Shorts" are less than 3.25 inches (8.26 centimeters), "eggers" are females that either have eggs or have been marked as an egg producer by another lobsterman with a "V-notch" on the tail, and "longs" are over 5 ins (12.7 cm).

Cape Porpoise, where Chipper makes his living, is part of the town of Kennebunkport, a popular tourist destination known for its lobster rolls, locally brewed beers, cold water beaches, and the summer home of former US

President George H. W. Bush and his late wife, Barbara.

It is also the home port of approximately 40 lobster boats and their captains.

The lobster fishery in Long Island Sound is plagued with the disease and the fear is it will move to the north after having already been found off the coast of Connecticut, Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts.

The American lobster has been surviving in the Atlantic Ocean for millions of years and was plentiful in the past. Native Americans used to use them as bait and fertilizer for their crops, while in colonial times, lobsters were considered to be a poor man’s food, nourishment for indentured servants and prisoners.

They are now part of a valuable commercial fishing industry that, according to the Maine Department of Marine Resources, netted over 69.7 million pounds (31.6 million kilograms) at a price of over 244 million US dollars (208.7 million euros) in 2008 alone.

But Chipper has noticed the number of lobstermen at Cape Porpoise has dropped significantly in the last 20 years.

Children are not taking over the family business when a parent retires and others have moved on to other ventures and the costs of the boat, license, traps, bait and fuel are not providing a significant enough return on the investment, according to Chipper.

In the harsh winter months, he repairs traps, builds new ones and looks after his gear, but "that's the thing about lobstering, you don't make any money unless you get out there."

Besides the weather, there are other factors that make the job hard. There

JULY 13 - 19, 2018 "When I was younger, that shore was lined with little cottages, but then big money came in and all the little houses started disappearing and them big homes started," Chipper said. "Them folks have landscapers coming in and spraying the fertilizers and spraying for ticks."

"That poison is flowing off them lawns and into the water here and getting at the lobsters. That's my thinking. I pretty much only see them with the shell disease near the shore," he added.

Despite the hardships, Chipper loves what he does: "I'm really good at feeding lobsters. My boat is paid for so I will probably do this for another 10 years or so, then maybe just haul in the summer months. I have not had another job and don’t think I ever wanted a different job."

The recent trade war that the Trump Administration has started with China, imposing tariffs on imported goods, has backfired on the Maine Lobster industry. China has imposed a 25 percent tariff on US lobsters, as well as other US goods in response. China in recent years has been a boom for the lobster fishermen, but now they are left scrambling to find other buyers.

Bay Area Wilderness Training Supports Young People’s Curiosity of the Outdoors

touch with the outdoors on their own.

Lee says, “Our students that we work with would not be able to go outdoors. Their families can’t afford their equipment, hands down. BAWT definitely allows them and gives them access to go outdoors. For a lot of the families that I directly work with, they would not even think about going outdoors because it’s too expensive.”

Although most of the programs and groups that work with the Oakland based BAWT train and get their equipment locally, there is a wide variety of desitnations for the outdoors groups.

“We’ve had people take their kids to the other side of the country with our equipment. We had two different groups go to the Grand Canyon,” says Fraume.

From Yosemite National Park to Kelley Park in San Jose, these groups are using BAWT’s training and services to get youth into public preserves and open spaces at no cost to the participants.

In this marvel of a land called the Bay Area, there is treasures in the environment surrounding our diverse natural landscape.

These treasures are the outdoor experiences themselves, found by people everyday in hikes, backpacking and camping in the vast stretches of public lands.

Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT) is a nonprofit whose goals include getting disadvantaged youth into the outdoors; a first time experience for many of them.

Andrea Fraume is the Outreach Coordinator for BAWT in the South Bay. With locations in San Francisco and a headquarters in Oakland, she says that BAWT brings the outdoors closer to underserved youth in the Bay Area though trainings and a “gear library” which lends equipment at no cost.

“The resources that we offer are related to running outdoor experiences for these populations. We do trainings where we take youth workers, teachers, anybody who works with young people in any capacity.”

The organization trains participants in being able to lead and develop their own outdoor trips ranging from daytime hikes, local park walks, and five day backpacking trips.

The training is referred to as Wilderness Leadership Training, or WLT. “Once they finish that they get access to all of the resources that we have which include gear rentals, which is our most popular program.

People can check out things like backpacks, tents, clothing, whatever they might need to have a good & safe experience with their kids,” adds Fraume.

In addition to the training and equipment rentals, they offer mini grants and scholarships to their courses. Currently the leadership courses are being offered for free, but at some point at the end of the year will be available for a registration fee.

Seung Lee is the Campus Director for Renaissance Academy's Citizen Schools program. Citizen Schools is a nonprofit which serves as an extended learning program for middle schools across the country. Lee went through the WLT in order to learn more about bringing camping courses to Citizen’s Schools.

“I was able to go on their five-day backpacking course which gave me a variety and skills to really navigate and facilitate a backpacking trip with youth.”

One of the main takeaways for Lee was the ease of going through the program and being able to get the students from the school he works with out into a campsite.

“Through that partnership we were able to take twelve girls backpacking in the East Bay. For 90% of them it was the first time ever sleeping outdoors. So that was a great experience for us to give to their students.”

Fraume and Lee both share similar viewpoints when it comes to the main takeaway of BAWTthe accessibility and opportunity it brings to students and young people who might not have the resources or knowledgebase to get in

Santa Clara Open Space Authority is partly to thank for BAWT’s successful expansion in the South Bay. Through the special district’s funding over the last few years BAWT has been able to allocate funds to reach further out into communities and be able to provide training scholarships.

“We want nature to be accessible to everyone and funding projects in the community allows us to do that. It’s also because of the measure passing we know it’s important to our voters and our jurisdiction as well,” says Alisha Maniglia, a Communnications Specialists with Open Space Authority.

Thus far Open Space Authority has awared BAWT two grants stemming from funds secured through Measure Q, an open space protection measure that was overwhelmingly passed by voters in 2014.

“They are our future leaders. These grants are available for schools, nonprofits and community groups. If they want a project in their neighborhood they can sign up for our mailing list and find out how they can bring nature to their neighborhoods,” says Maniglia.

A Natural History of Connectedness As for the big picture of what organizations like BAWT do to help bridge the gap of minorities and underserved communities coming into natural open spaces, it’s down to the history of these groups and their connections within nature.

“I think in a time where we are so distracted by social media and although we are connected virtually we’re also disconnected in terms of in person communication. A lot of the feedback we get from the students is they really enjoy getting to know their friend a little bit more, on a different level. On a little more intimate of a level,” says Lee. Individuals on these tripss finding a common ground is something that both Fraume and Lee see in the times they’ve been out with children.

Fraume recalls a local expedition to Almaden Lake Park with eleven students and how theyreacted to being in something as close as a city park.

“Yes there was cell reception but they did not care to be on their phones. They were so excited about being outside and learning about this place they’ve never been to. Seeing them talk to each other on a very different level. I always saw them as very imaginative and creative kids but seeing them outside and hearing them talk to each other, it’s so fun. It’s so much fun.”

Another variable which helps this connection to nature for some of the youth is the recall to their own families’ histories.

“A lot of my kids were children of immigrants or immigrants themselves so they started talking about Mexico and a creek back where their family’s ancestral home is, that was really powerful.

You have to work to get to those kinds of conversations and being outside I feel like the inspiration just kind of came naturally,” says Fraume.

Originally from Colombia, Fraume recalls not feeling like she belonged until she went out on a trip with BAWT in 2016.

“It wasn’t until I went on that course and our facilitators and my co participants invited and encouraged those conversations about belonging in the land that really solidified my sense of belonging, like I deserved to be here, this land is here and I love it and I appreciate it and i’m grateful for it.”

She says that in a time of politcal uncertainty for people of color, especially immigrants, it is a especially healing to be part of outdoors experiences.

“When I started getting into this work and learning about the social justice aspect of this, somebody introduced me to a list of people of color who are leaders of the outdoors. At the the top of that list was Harriet Tubman. We never think of her that way. Harriet Tubman was an outdoors woman. She would hike for very long distances, lead groups of people on these hikes.”

Lee adds, “It’s interesting that people of color have a different perspective of the outdoors and the history says we were the laborers, we were the workers out there. We could change that mindset for minorities, to think of it as appreciating the outdoors more as opposed to reminding them of history, of where they came from."

For now, Bay Area Wilderness Training is creating new campers who they hope will take their knowledge back to their communities.

Fraume adds, “We need to change the way the outdoors look [and] bring awareness that people have been recreating in the outdoors for a long time and we have a deep relationship with the outdoors.”

SEATTLE'S CAMPAIGN TO BAN PLASTIC STRAWS GOES NATIONWIDE This week, Seattle became the first major U.S. city to ban single-use plastic straws, forcing some 5,000 restaurants to offer reusable or compostable utensils, straws and cocktail picks.

Organizers behind the "Strawless in Seattle" campaignwere expecting to have only the month of September designated as "strawless."

Campaign co-creator Emy Kane said the strategy was to build on the success of a small win. However, after the city's self-imposed ban, they want to keep the momentum going.

Seattle's ban is part of a 2008 ordinance that requires restaurants and other food-service businesses to find recyclable or compostable alternatives to disposable plastic products.

The Seattle Restaurant Alliance, an industry trade group, said it has been preparing for the change for more than a year and its members plan to comply.

Businesses that don't comply may face a fine of up to $250, but Seattle officials have said

they'll work with businesses to help make the changes.

Kane said she's excited to see the surge in interest for banning plastic straws, which is part of the larger goal of starting a global conversation.

"Since we launched our campaign in September, there have been other proposed bans that have come into play, including the city of Malibu (Calif.)," she said. "There is ongoing legislation

in the city of New York, which is wonderful we recently supported that bill, that's been proposed by Councilman (Rafael) Espinal - in addition to San Francisco."

According to some estimates, Americans use 500 million plastic straws every day, while some parts of the oceans contain more plastic than fish.

During his one-year tenure, Pruitt was seen by conser vatives as one of President Donald Trump's most effec tive Cabine t members, working relentlessly to dismantle Obama-era regulations aimed at reducing pollution.

Stephen Spaulding, chief of strateg y for the group Common Cause, said Pruitt's questionable past was widely known. His group had urged Congress to delay the confirmation when Pruitt withheld doc uments revealing corporate influence in his decisions as Oklahoma attorney general.

"He was clearly unfit for the position of public trust that he was in as administrator of the EPA ," said Spaulding. "I think we were extremely troubled that the majority in Congress really refused to hold him accountable and, in

our view, were complicit."

Spaulding shared similar reser vations about Andrew Wheeler, a former coalcompany lobbyist and now EPA deputy administrator, who will take Pruitt's place as ac ting administrator on Monday. Pruitt expressed no regre ts in a le tter submitted to media outle ts on T hursday.

Environmental groups predic t the Trump administration will continue its pattern of appointing the least likely candidate to head the agenc y. Kara Cook-Schultz, direc tor of U.S. PIRG's (Public Interest Research Group) toxics program, thinks the president should take time to really understand the purpose of the EPA .

"Scott Pruitt has failed in the EPA mission to protec t human health and the environment, and Americans are less safe today than they should be, due to his poor decisions and leadership," CookSchultz said.

Like President Trump, Pruitt voiced skepticism about mainstream climate science. Andrew Wheeler also doubts that humans are a primar y cause of the rapid increase in climate change.

Wireless carriers often refer to this as “re-prioritization.” You can refer to it as “limits for unlimited plans.”

So, without further fanfare or any more Princess Bride quotes, here’s what you need to know about “unlimited” plans from the four major carriers: Verizon Cost for a Single “Unlimited” Line: $75 – $95/month (plus taxes and fees). Carrier Details.

The Best Unlimited Data Plan: The Verizon Above Unlimited plan offers 75GB of 4G data per month, along with 20GB of hotspot allowance (which is super handy when you need the full capabilities of your laptop while stuck in crosstown traffic). At $95/month (plus taxes and fees), it’s the most expensive unlimited plan out there, but it also offers the most data.

An Added Benefit: This plan also includes 500GB of Verizon Cloud storage.

The International Plan: With this plan,

you can add international data to your plan for $10/day per device. No separate plan is needed.

Over the Cap? “We may manage your network usage to ensure a quality experience for all customers, and may prioritize your data behind other Verizon customers during times/places of network congestion.”

AT&T Cost for a Single “Unlimited” Line: $70+/ month (plus taxes and fees). Carrier Details.

The Best Unlimited Data Plan: The AT&T Unlimited & More Premium (at $80/ month) costs $10/month more than the AT&T Unlimited & More package but is worth the upgrade. In addition to 1080p streaming (the base plan only allows 480p streaming), this plan also includes 15GB of hotspot allowance. FYI 1080p is HD quality and 480p is standard definition television quality. Importantly, depending on the resolution of your screen, you may not be able to tell the difference. That said, if you are using the plan with a laptop or late-model video monitor, pony up for the 1080p plan.

An Added Benefit: Both AT&T plans include 30+ channels of Live TV, but the Premium package also includes one of seven “music, movie, or entertainment perks” like HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, or Amazon Music.

The International Plan: Like Verizon, AT&T will let you add international data to your plan for $10/day per device.

Over the Cap? “After 22GB of data usage

on a line in a bill cycle, for the remainder of the cycle AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds on that line during times of network congestion.”

T-Mobile Cost for a Single “Unlimited” Line: $70+/ month (no taxes or fees). Carrier Details.

The Best Unlimited Data Plan: T-Mobile has two unlimited data offerings. Both offer 50GB of 4G data, but T-Mobile ONE Plus (which costs $80/month) offers 10GB of 4G hotspot data and full 1080p streaming.

An Added Benefit: Always in the air?

T-Mobile ONE Plus includes unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi on Gogo-enabled flights.

If you fly as much as I do (I often say my home is Terminal 5 at JFK), those savings add up. Also nice: unlimited HD streaming (effectively rendering the 50GB data “cap” moot).

The International Plan: While the T-Mobile ONE Plus plan includes 2x international data speed (vs. the base T-Mobile ONE plan), you can upgrade to T-Mobile ONE Plus International, which offers the same boosted international data speeds as well as unlimited international calling, unlimited 4G LTE in Mexico and Canada, and – here’s the big one – unlimited 4G LTE mobile hotspot data.

This plan costs $95/month.

Over the Cap? “On all T-Mobile plans, during congestion, the small fraction of customers using >50GB/mo. may notice reduced speeds until next bill cycle due to data prioritization. Video typically streams at DVD quality (480p). Tethering

The International Plan: Sprint’s international plan is the most convoluted of the bunch. Unlimited texting and 2G data are included at no additional cost, but calls cost 20 cents/minute. If you’re going to Canada or Mexico, you can bump up to 4G data for $2/day or $10/week.

“Most destinations” will cost $5/day or $25/week, while “other destinations” will run you $10/day or $50/week. Confused?

So am I. You can try to figure it out for yourself.

Over the Cap? “For these customers, if they use more than 23GB of data during a billing cycle, they will be prioritized on the network below other customers for the remainder of their billing cycle, only in times and locations where the network is constrained. (These customers will still be able to use unlimited amounts of data without the worry of overage charges.)”

Choosing the Right Plan Assuming you could afford any of these plans, which is best for you? The answer is unchanged from the beginning of the cellphone era. It comes down to which carrier offers the best coverage for your particular needs. You can be on the best phone on the best network and find yourself with one bar of signal and an unusable connection. You can be on the cheapest phone on the least expensive carrier and enjoy an unbuffered streaming video. Choosing the carrier that works best where you are (and where you tend to travel) is still the determining factor.

After all, what good is “unlimited” data if you can’t connect?
