Bass, who has a background in healthcare has posted a petition at: <www.change. or g /p/d i a g n o s e t r u mp>, calling on folks to urge the Republican party to force Trump to undergo a mental heath evaluation to professionally determine if he is mentally fit to be the leader of U.S.A. and the free world. The petition presents the criteria for “narcissistic personality disorder (NPD)”. Given the many published concerns about his “Presidential Temperament”, this assessment is prudent.

to discern a pattern here and concluded: 'he is a bull-shit artist', I (Fareed) am not using that label casually.”At his core he is a B.S. artist.'Franklin, an eminent moral philosopher wrote a genius essay on B.S. Artists (1986) wherein he distinguishes crucially between LIES and B.S.”

“Telling a lie is an act with a sharp focus. It is designed to insert a particular falsehood at a specific point. In order to invent a lie at all, the teller of a lie must think he knows what is true.”

Franklin explains, 'it is neither on the side of the true, nor on the side of the false. His eye is not on the facts at all. (The B.S. artist's) focus is panoramic rather than particular...with more spacious opportunities for improvisation, color, and imaginative play. This is less a matter of craft than of art.

Hence a familiar notion of the “BULLSHIT ARTIST.” (Writes Franklin), “This has been Donald Trump's mode all his life. He (Trump) boasts; boasts; and boasts about his business, his buildings, his books, his wives like a... concoction of hyperbole and falsehoods. And when you find out, (Trump) is like that guy we have all met making wild

claims at the bar, who when confronted with the truth, quickly responds, “I knew that.”

Trump said, “I was in Moscow (Russia) recently; and I spoke indirectly and directly with President Putin, who could not have been nicer. In November 2015, (at a false debate), Trump said this of Putin, “I got to know him very well because we were both on '60 Minutes'.

Did Trump think he could say something like that on live TV and no one would check?” A check revealed that program consisted of two separate prerecorded interviews: one with Putin in Moscow and the other with Trump in New York! “By that logic, I (Fareed) has gotten to know Franklin D. Roosevelt very well because (he) ran some clips of FDR on (his) TV set. In fact, it was just bullshit.”

Two more B.S. incidents are described by Fareed.

“Franklin concludes that liars and truth-tellers are both acutely aware of facts and truth (i.e., reality). However, the B.S. artist has lost all connection with reality. By

virtue of this, Franklin writes, 'bullshit' is a greater enemy of truth than lies are. We see the consequences; we see that standard rules of facts, truth and reality have disappeared from this (presidential) campaign. “Donald Trump has inserted such vast quantities of his trademark product (B.S.) into the political arena that the stench is now overwhelming and unbearable.” For more go to <CNN.com/Fareed> (his Washington Post column).

Eugene Robinson, another Washington Post columnist wrote “Trump Dilemma Wracks GOP”, SJ Mercury News (Bay Area Group), page A19 dated 08.07.16: “Advice directed to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and many other (GOP) stalwarts.

You are not fools.,,You are...indefensible on both philosophical and real world grounds (by) begging Trump to pretend to be a sane and competent until Election Day.” Trump's Temperament is an issue; Hillary's is not.

Right now America needs Hillary's demonstrated public service (25 years + no B.S. vs.

Trump's ZERO + B.S.). Hillary nurtures; she will benefit 90% of us rather than the 0.1%.

A menos de 100 días de las elecciones del 8 de noviembre se inicia una cuenta regresiva que podría ser decisiva para el futuro de la comunidad de inmigrantes de Estados Unidos, en especial para aquellos de origen latino.

Si el candidato presidencial republicano gana las elecciones, eso querrá decir que es posible atacar de manera injusta, prejuiciosa e ignorante a todo un segmento de la población, en este caso los inmigrantes indocumentados mexicanos, sin pagar un costo político real.

“Esta elección va a ser decisiva para la comunidad latina porque Donald Trump y los republicanos nos quieren sacar de Estados Unidos, con el muro, con discriminación, así que para nuestra comunidad esta es la elección más importante de nuestra historia”, sostiene el ex gobernador de Nuevo México, Bill Richardson.

Es verdad que los blancos de los ataques del candidato republicano han sido múltiples y crecientes: mujeres,

minorías, musulmanes y hasta héroes de guerra.

Pero como pocas, la comunidad de votantes latinos tiene el potencial indiscutible de ser decisivo en el desenlace electoral, en especial por su peso en los estados llamados “campos de batalla”.

La Asociación Nacional de Funcionarios Latinos Electos (NALEO) estima que 27.3 millones de adultos estadounidenses son elegibles para votar. De ese total, NALEO calcula que más de 13 millones de votantes latinos se harán presentes en las urnas el martes 8 de noviembre, una cifra record en términos del número absoluto de votantes en comparación con Pero aún existen alrededor de 12 millones de ciudadanos estadounidenses de origen hispano que tristemente no están registrados para votar. Las estadísticas confirman que, una vez registrados, ocho de cada diez latinos acuden a las urnas, de allí que tiene sentido la meta que se impusieron varios grupos de registrar a un millón antes de los comicios.

Aunque hay evidencias parciales que apuntan en la dirección de un repunte en el número de registros de latinos, aún no es posible precisar cuántos lo hicieron motivados por la actitud de hostilidad hacia los latinos desplegada por Trump.

Vale la pena por ello escuchar las palabras de la inmigrante indocumentada mexicana Astrid Silva, quien representó a la comunidad de inmigrantes durante la Convención Demócrata de Filadelfia.

Cuando se le preguntó que sentía por las palabras de Trump contra los mexicanos, su respuesta es una lección de sentido común.

CÓMO COMPRAR CON SEGURIDAD EN LÍNEA

La aparición y crecimiento de minoristas en línea ha aumentado significativamente las opciones de los consumidores. Mientras que antes de que una persona se limitaba a las tiendas de ladrillo y mortero y catálogos, sitios de comercio electrónico permiten a los usuarios de Internet modernos para ordenar productos y servicios desde cualquier parte del mundo con solo el clic de un botón. En muchos sentidos, esto es muy bueno para los consumidores. Le ayúdalos a encontrar lo que están buscando y a menudo a un mejor precio. Sin embargo, el mundo de las compras en línea también ha expuesto a muchos compradores más riesgos.

Investigando una empresa antes de hacer una compra y leyendo críticas puede ahorrarte de cometer el mismo error que muchos otros hicieron antes.

5 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE POSTPONING STUDENT LOAN 1. Should I choose a deferment or forbearance?

The two main differences between deferment and forbearance are

Lisa Rhodes Department of Education Office of Federal Student Aid If you’re having difficulty repaying your federal student loans, then you might want to consider a deferment or forbearance. These two temporary solutions allow you to stop making or, in some instances, to lower your monthly federal student loan payment. While both can be helpful solutions if you’re experiencing temporary hardship, they aren’t great long-term solutions because they can be costly, and if you aren’t careful, your loan balance could be higher when your deferment or forbearance period ends.

Before you apply, here’s some information that can help you decide if deferment or forbearance is the best option for you.

•

and whether or not you’ll be charged interest when you’re not making payments.

Most borrowers first apply for a deferment because it’s usually the best option and then if they aren’t eligible for it, their loan servicer (the organization that manages your student loan) may grant a forbearance.

2. Can I postpone my payments with deferment or forbearance?

Maybe. Getting a deferment or forbearance is about your situation and the reason you are having trouble making your loan payments. In general, you’ll request a deferment or forbearance because of a financial or economic hardship. Additionally, you may qualify if you are enrolled in school at least half-time, during or directly following a period of active duty military service, while you complete a medical or dental residency program, while you serve in

the Peace Corps, or while you serve in a national service position for which you received a national service award (e.g., AmeriCorps).

3. How could a deferment or forbearance cause my loan balance to increase?

Whether your loan balance increases depends on the type of federal student loans you have, whether you are requesting a deferment or a forbearance, and whether you make any required interest payments during this time. Let me explain.

With deferment, the federal government pays the interest that is charged during a deferment period for certain types of federal student loans. For those loans that the federal government does not pay the interest charges, such as unsubsidized loans and PLUS loans, interest continues to accrue (accumulate) during deferment. Any unpaid interest that accrues during your deferment period is added to your loan balance. This is called capitalization.

With forbearance, the federal government does not pay interest charges for any type of federal student loan—ever. So, while you can stop

making payments or reduce your monthly payment amount for up to 12 months, interest continues to be charged on all of your federal student loans during a forbearance period.

Again, any unpaid interest that accrues during this time will be added to your loan balance.

4. Should I postpone my payments with a deferment or forbearance?

Just because you qualify to postpone your payments with a deferment or forbearance, doesn’t mean you should. Why? Because any unpaid interest (discussed in the previous question) that accrues during deferment or forbearance periods may be capitalized. So when you start making your payments again—which you eventually must do—your loan balance may be higher than it was before you got a deferment or forbearance, which may cause your monthly payment amount to increase. For this reason, a deferment or forbearance may not be the best option for you. There are often better options available to help you make your monthly payment.

5. What are my other options?

your payment due date, switching repayment plans, or consolidating your loans. For example, just changing your repayment plan to an income-driven repayment plan could reduce your monthly payment to $0. Consolidating your loans could also lower your monthly payments by giving you up to 30 years to repay your loans. If you haven’t considered these options, you’ll want to review the options before you apply for a deferment or forbearance.

Ultimately, the decision to postpone or reduce your monthly student loan payment is yours, but for many borrowers it is absolutely necessary to keep a loan from going into default.

Just proceed with caution and take some time to find out the best option for you and your financial situation.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Several bills aimed at protecting health-care consumers face do-ordie votes this week in Sacramento. On August 10th the State Assembly Appropriations Committee heard Senate Bill 1010, which would force drug companies to justify significant prescription-drug price hikes and give notice of the increases.

The real decision for both bills comes tomorrow, when the committees decide which bills get out of the so-called "suspense file" and get a vote in the full chamber.

Anthony Wright, executive director with the advocacy group Health Access, said a little "sunlight" might shed light on the soaring prices.

"We typically require similar notice and disclosure of other parts of the health industry, but prescription drug prices are often a black box," he said. "This would provide just some very basic, commonsense transparency."

On Monday, the State Senate Appropriations Committee heard AB 72, which would prevent insurers from sending patients a big bill if they use an in-network hospital, but

AB 72 is a compromise bill to replace last year's similar legislation (AB 533), which failed by three votes. This version includes higher reimbursement rates for doctors. Wright said patients who play by the rules should not be penalized with huge out-of-network bills.

"Patients need to be protected that if they go to a network facility, that all the cost-sharing related to that visit is also in-network, typically a small co-pay, rather than uncovered or at significant expense," he added.

Several other bills on mid-year cost-sharing increases, notice on large premium hikes, and the right to a timely appointment are also headed for final votes in the next few weeks.

LEARNING FROM FRONTMAN BARDO MARTINEZ ABOUT THE SONICALLY ECLECTIC L.A. BAND

Arturo Hilario El Observador Chicano Batman was a name that was created thanks to a meshing of cultures in the United States. This very much gives you a hint on what the music and mindset of the 4-piece ensemble from Los Angeles brings to their music and how regardless of its influences, creates something soulful and resounding to which anyone can find themselves immersed in. From their start 8 years ago to now opening for the likes of Jack White, and The Alabama Shakes, their ride has been fueled by putting their souls into their craft.

“Essentially Chicano Batman, or at least the concept of the band formed in my film class at UCLA. I was taking a class, called Film and Social Change. Basically the whole class was about films from all over the world and the crux of every one of those films was a spin-off or satire of American popular culture,” says Bardo Martinez, the lead vocalist, organist and guitarist of Chicano Batman.

“All these films inspired me to become a musician and make music and as a form of emitting particular social, economic, political commentary. I remember watching this film by Kidlat Tahimik called the “Perfumed

Nightmare”. In this film after watching it, it’s extremely surreal and after watching the film the name just kind of came to me, the 'chicano batman'.”

Martinez, who hails from the Los Angeles gateway city of La Mirada, says that the melding of influences while growing up and a fascination with different musical elements and styles initially pushed his pursuit of creating a band with like-minded individuals who could also bring their own elements into the mix.

“I was really into the Tropicália musical movement from Brazil which was happening in the late 60’s (and) led by Caetano Veloso. So when I met Eduardo Arenas, the bassist of the band, at a party we vibed on that. We ended up jamming together and ended up signing “Nine Out of Ten”. In the scene that we operated in no one would know who that was, or would be listening to it. We vibed on that fact that we were hip to it, that was something that connected us.”

It was at this time when Martinez also told Arenas that he was interested in a project that sounded like Chilean pop band Los Angeles Negros and Mexican music from the 70's and 80's. Another point would be to combine elements of Tropicália and represent

the musical history in certain ways. This referential style is what would allow them to bring elements from their musical histories, but also be as different and experimental as they want.

From this point Martinez says it was an organic meshing of the rest of the guys in the band as they came along. Drummer/percussionist Gabriel Villa, who studied classically in France for 5 years, became the next piece to Chicano Batman. “Gabriel is an amazing musician so to me he was a very important. I saw him as a person I needed in my life. I wanted to play music that’s very diverse in rhythms. So that’s how the first album came about, it was just us three rocking. We put out our first album and then just stared building, playing small shows around the area. And then we added Carlos Arévalo (guitar) 4-5 years into the project.”

The backgrounds of the 4 members of Chicano Batman are very diverse Latino ones. Although ¾ of them grew up at one point or another in LA (Villa came in his 20's to the valley after growing up in Cali, Colombia) their parents hail from Colombia, Mexio and El Salvador.

Being a diverse mix of latino definitely affects their musical elements that are brought to the band Martinez says in his own experience, “It’s very interesting, it stretches the spectrum.

We grew up listening to all kinds of music but my parents for example, listened to oldies, like any 'Los Angelino' does. Whatever plays on the airwaves. So we listen to what’s in our environments but my parents also bring Fito Olivarez, Roberto Carlos, Los Bukis. My dad had a big record collection, he made a lot of tape mixes while we were growing up in the 1980’s and so I listened to so much music.

My dad was my most important inspirations because he was listening to what was hot when I was a kid. The way I look at it I was lucky.

I was listening to Cream, Eric Clapton, disco, old school boleros, all kinds of really good music.”

Yet putting down to words what exactly Chicano Batman can be compared to is difficult, and the band probably prefers it

that way. They are by no means an “ethnic” sounding band, but more made up of their expanding histories and influences.

“We have all kinds of influence. Looking at it through an ethno-musicological lens a lot of Latino music is influenced and inspired by black soul music. There’s so much crosscultural influences it’s so universal because anybody can play music, on a stereo so every time they do that they get a different message, they get a different rhythm. They pick up a different style,” says Martinez.

He adds, “for me Latinos in the mainstream culture have an inferior role in the industry, there’s a such thing as Latin Grammy’s, that tells you everything you need right there. It’s like a separate graduation for music. We’re not trying to be in that separate graduation we’re trying to be part of music as a whole.”

The amalgamation of styles is very evident.

Some of their songs are throwbacks to the pop ballads of both Central America and US in either English or Spanish, while others have a deep R&B/Soul influences sprinkled within it's parameters, and are sung in Brazilian Portuguese.

Martinez explains, “for example 'Itotiani' is the first song on our first album so when people check out our music that’s the first song they get. I think right there everybody is hooked, no matter who you are it resonates. That right there is your 4-4 beat and everybody is just bobbing their head. Everybody is just gripped by that song because it’s so classic. That soul oldie type of vibe.”

Chicano Batman will be performing at the free 20th Street Block Party in the Mission on Saturday August 20th. Martinez says the band guarantees a great and immersive time to those in attendance. “The aura we’re putting on stage are the same vibes we put into our recordings. It speaks to people whether they see us or not. It comes out from the soul.”

400 YOUTH ACTIVISTS UNITE FOR #FREEOURDREAMS RALLY

Young leaders of color also testify at hearing of the Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color and meet with over 100 legislators.

Monday's hearing also gave state agencies—including the Departments of Health & Human Services, Labor & Workforce Development, Corrections & Rehabilitation, and the Board of State and Community Corrections—the opportunity to testify about progress made in implementing policy recommendations outlined in the action plan.

Jahmal Miller, Deputy Director at the California Department of Public Health Office of Health Equity, highlighted the steep health disparities facing boys and men of color in California and how they are interconnected with issues of poverty, education, and the justice system.

“We need to be innovative and creative and focus on the upstream [factors, on] the causes of the causes,” Miller recommended to the select committee.

Programs and policies that support young men of color are integral to California’s future success and prosperity. By 2020, a third of jobs in California will require at least a college degree, yet youth of color in

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Over 400 young leaders representing the California Alliance for Boys and Men of Color gathered on the Capitol steps Monday for the #FreeOurDreams rally, where they urged policymakers to pass legislation related to police accountability, ending the criminalization of youth, and to promote safe and successful schools.

Though seventy percent of California’s youth are of color, persistent inequalities in the criminal justice, immigration, and education systems have kept them locked up or locked out of opportunity. Following the rally, youth made over a hundred visits with their local representatives to discuss solutions for justice, health, safety, and the success of young people of color.

“Today is about allowing and cultivating the youth voice and making it sing, and having it be heard in the halls of power, where the legislative policy decisions are being made,” said Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland), who, along with Assemblymember Reginald Byron JonesSawyer, Sr. (D-Los Angeles), chairs the Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color.

The rally was preceded by the Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color annual progress hearing, where youth leaders from Southern, Central, and Northern California provided feedback on the programs and policies supported by the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color related to health, education, employment, juvenile justice, and safety.

Santa Ana youth David Celedon shared his story with the committee, explaining how a typical high school fight left him expelled and forced to attend remedial school just because police wrongly labeled the fight a “gang-related incident”. Now he’s fighting to remove this gang association and seal his record before he turns 18. “I am in fear that I was put into a gang database,” he told the committee, referring to a secret tracking system that allows police to label youth a gang member without their knowledge and with little recourse for youth to contest this allegation. Celedon spoke in support of AB 2298, one of many bills being considered this week, which would bring due process and transparency to this secret database.

The Select Committee was established by Assembly Speaker John Perez in 2011, and has partnered with the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color to hold hearings across the state, collecting testimony from more than 2,000 youth, community members, government officials, researchers, and policy experts about problems, community-led solutions, and policies the state could enact to improve outcomes for its boys and young men of color. The testimony helped form an action plan with 67 policy priorities, many of which have subsequently been introduced as bills and become California law.

“We need to renew our vows to our Black, brown, and [Asian Pacific Islander] youth,” Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer said during the select committee hearing.

“As parents, neighbors, voters, and policymakers, the greatest gift [we can give them] is ensuring access to success.”

These inequities have significant economic consequences for the state: according to a 2007 study, African-American and Latino men graduating high school generate $681,130 and $451,360 more per person in additional dollars for the state than those who do not graduate high school.

This is due to increased tax revenue and economic productivity as well as decreased costs associated with poor health or incarceration.

“These young activists are incredible—they are creative, fearless, loving, and powerful,” said Rosa Aqeel, Associate Director at PolicyLink, a research and action institute that advances social and economic equity and serves as coordinator for the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color. “With them leading the way as California’s next generation of Senators, Assemblymembers, and other change-makers, our future is extremely bright.”

FERIA DE SALUD:

HEALTH, KNOWLEDGE, AND FUN MIX AT BERRYESSA FLEA MARKET

Arturo Hilario El Observador On Saturday August 13 the Berryessa Flea Market will include a health fair aimed at entertainment and information for families.

For the past few years Jesse De La Cruz of the American Diabetes Association has collaborated with the Flea Market to expand the health knowledge of families in the Latino community.

“The Feria de Salud came about as a realization that we wanted to reach out to more and more Latino families and educate them of the dangers of diabetes because of the rising trend in type 2 diabetes in the community. We wanted to make sure we had a vehicle to reach out to families and educate and at the same time to have some fun, and Feria de Salud is a combination of education and fun, like a streets fair,” says De La Cruz.

The fair has a wide range of screenings available, all free of cost, to community members curious about their health. Beyond this there will be family entertainment such as Mariachis, clowns, face paintings and healthy foods.

“We have an awful lot of fun things for the whole family But never losing sight of our original goal which is to educate families on diabetes type 2 and what it is and how to prevent it.”

De La Cruz began his mission in helping communities receive proper health education when he looked into his own family history of diabetes.

“I did some research and found out it does not run in my own family, so it baffled me at

why so many Latinos were getting type 2 and had a long family history of getting this. So I looked into it more and more and made some contacts through the American Diabetes Association. There was a great interest in reaching out to the Latino community so that became my job.”

Overall the Feria de Salud has been in the Bay Area for 13 years, with the Flea Market hosting the last 4. “We like the venue very very much simply because it packs a large gathering of Latino families. It seems to be a good fit for each other,” says De La Cruz.

The fair is run by the ADA although their assessments and informational aspects come from different clinics in the area. This year screenings will be done primarily by Foothill Community Health Center.

De La Cruz adds, “we’re gonna do glucose, we’re gonna screen for blood pressure, vision screenings, dental screenings, back pains and even do ultrasound screenings. We just want to be able to offer as many health services as possible to Latino families that come to our fair.”

“Our outreach is that we want to attract as many people as possible so we can give out as much service to everyone.”

Finally, De La Cruz feels there is one important reason to stop by and check out the fair on August 13, “I think overall the best reason to stop by and visit us is to learn more about diabetes. If they go to Feria de Salud hopefully they’re going not only for the entertainment, because that will be fun, but to talk to these organizations that are all geared towards one thing, and that is ‘how can we help to make the Latino families healthy in our community’.”

CALIF. COULD REPLACE LOCAL POLLING PLACES WITH "VOTE CENTERS"

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The State of California is considering scrapping the neighborhood polling place by 2018 in favor of more vote-by-mail balloting and new "Vote Centers."

Experts testified at two informational hearings at the State Assembly on August 2 to explain the concept, which is modeled after a system used in Colorado where voter participation statewide went up three percentage points after the change two years ago.

Mindy Romero, director of the California Civic Engagement Project at the University of California, Davis, said all registered voters would automatically receive a mail-in ballot.

"The goal is to make voting easier for people, hoping that turnout will increase and participation will increase in California," Romero said. "That's a question mark, but that is the hope."

A majority of California voters already vote by mail. For people who still want to cast a ballot in person, the Vote Centers would be open for several weeks ahead of the election, with longer hours and on weekends. Compared to current polling places, there would be fewer Vote Centers - but voters could go to any center in the county, not just the one in their district.

Romero authored a study on voting centers released last week which found that young people and Latinos tend to favor voting in person. So, she said, extensive targeted outreach would be necessary.

"For Latinos in particular," Romero said, "there are so many aspects of the polling place experience that they prefer: social aspects, being able to know that their vote is counted, more hesitancy in sending their ballot through the mail and trusting the post office."

Senate Bill 450, to establish Vote Centers, has already passed the State Senate and the Assembly Elections Committee. It's now in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Cómo prevenir que le piquen los mosquitos

Un experto de Extensión Cooperativa de la Universidad de California explica que un mosquito Aedes aegypti solo puede transmitir el virus del zika luego de picar a una persona que tiene el virus en la sangre.

“Las hembras toman la sangre para obtener los nutrientes para poner sus huevos y se alimentan casi exclusivamente de las personas.

Esto significa que hay muchas posibilidades de que van picar a una persona infectada, entonces ese mosquito entra en un periodo de incubación, hasta que el virus entra en las glándulas salivales, esto toma alrededor del 10 o 12 días y si pican a otra persona la infectan”, señala Thomas W. Scott, entomólogo, experto de Extensión Cooperativa de la Universidad de California.

En California las infecciones de zika han estado relacionadas con personas que viajaron fuera del país o que lo contrajeron por contacto sexual con un viajero infectado. No hay a la fecha casos de transmisión local por mosquitos del virus de zika y las autoridades están tratando de prevenir que esto suceda documentando y atendiendo todos los casos.

“Los Centros para el Control y Prevención de Enfermedades están documentando o están más que desesperados en documentar, los casos de personas que vienen al país después de estar en áreas infectadas con zika y que traen el virus con ellos. Porque lo que puede ocurrir es que sí el Aedes aegypti ya está presente y pica a esa persona entonces puede empezar la transmisión aquí en los Estados Unidos. Y nosotros ya hemos descubierto, -relativamente reciente-, el Aedes Aegypti en California. Otros mosquitos podrían estar involucrados pero Aedes Aegypti es el realmente peligroso”, precisa el experto.

Evite regar en exceso y dejar agua estancada.

Mantenga las alcantarillas libres de basura y desechos del jardín.

Limpie los canales del techo por lo menos una vez al año para remover la basura.

Personas que viajaron a países con zika y sus compañeros sexuales

A las parejas o mujeres que están planeando un embarazo y viajaron a algunos de los lugares en donde ya se conocen casos de transmisión de zika, se recomienda, que esperen por lo menos ocho semanas, antes de tratar de concebir, para asegurarse que cualquier posible infección ha sido despejada.

Y si el esposo o compañero sexual desarrolló síntomas, la recomendación es esperar seis meses.

Javier Sierra Sierra Club Dice el refrán que el sol es la frazada de los pobres. Gracias a la tecnología, también es la calefacción, el aire acondicionado, la luz y el resplandor que ilumina un porvenir de energía limpia.

La industria solar es el rubro de mayor crecimiento en toda la economía del país.

Actualmente emplea a más de 200.000 trabajadores, decenas de miles de ellos hispanos, el doble que la minería del carbón. Y para la comunidad hispana, la energía solar es una bendición por partida triple.

“Desde que instalé mis paneles solares en mi casa el año pasado, gasto la mitad de lo que me costaba la energía sucia”, dice Oscar Medina, cliente de la compañía Solar City en Tucson, AZ. “No solo mantiene mi hogar fresco en el desierto de Arizona, sino que además no consumo electricidad procedente del sucio carbón”.

Uno de esos miles de trabajadores hispanos de esta industria es Roberto “Bobby” Rosthenhousler, otro residente de Tucson, cuya madre es de Los Mochis, México. Su respaldo es entusiasta.

“Si tú eres hispano, esta es una carrera con futuro”, dice Bobby, quien instala paneles para la empresa Net Zero Solar. “Mientras esté ahí el sol, vamos a tener un empleo. Quiero ser un pionero porque solo hay espacio para crecer en esta industria”.

Pero sobre este rubro se ciernen negros nubarrones —la codicia de las compañías eléctricas convencionales. En los últimos cuatro años, el explosivo crecimiento de los paneles solares se ha convertido en una severa amenaza contra un sistema arcaico basado en un modelo monopolístico que depende de energía sucia.

Un buen ejemplo de esto es la compañía eléctrica Tucson Electric Power (TEP), la cual depende en gran parte de la generación de energía carbonera, incluyendo su Estación de San Juan, en el norte de Nuevo México.

En unas semanas, TEP deberá revisar su plan energético para los próximos años, lo cual le ofrece la oportunidad de deshacerse de al menos parte de su portafolio carbonero y ampliar su oferta de energía limpia y renovable. En cambio, TEP planea mantener su Estación de San Juan, subir las tarifas a sus clientes y socavar a la industria de paneles solares individuales de Arizona con más cargos a usuarios como Oscar.

Las compañías eléctricas justifican este encarecimiento diciendo que los clientes de paneles solares siguen dependiendo de la red de distribución eléctrica sin pagar debidamente por ello. Sin embargo, estudio tras estudio indica que la energía de paneles solares reduce la presión y el desgaste de la red al depender menos de ella.

Y además limita la construcción de nuevas plantas energéticas sucias y caras, reduciendo sustancialmente la contaminación carbonera y su contribución al cambio climático.

Este abuso de las compañías convencionales pinta un desolador panorama para los usuarios de paneles solares. Sin embargo, el progreso es imparable. Un estudio de la Universidad de Cambridge asegura que pronto los paneles solares serán más competitivos que la energía de combustibles fósiles. Y esto aterra a los dinosaurios energéticos.

“Tienen que dejar competir a otras compañías que protegen el medio ambiente y ofrecen un servicio que beneficia principalmente a las familias trabajadoras”, dice Oscar. “Está claro que TEP debe parar la contaminación que nos enferma especialmente a los hispanos”.

“Mi hijo de cuatro años es autista”, dice Bobby.

“Y esa es otra razón por la que trabajo en la energía limpia. Me preocupa que todos esos contaminantes en el aire afecten a mi hijo. Esto es algo que puedo hacer por él”.

Por más que lo intenten las compañías convencionales, el sol no lo puedes tapar con una sombrilla.

Naturalization is the process by which U.S. citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen or national after he or she fulfills the eligibility requirements pursuant to the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Applicants granted U.S. citizenship are able to vote in federal elections and apply for job openings with the U.S. Federal Government. These are just some of the benefits of becoming a U.S. citizen.

• In order to apply for naturalization, an applicant must be at least eighteen years old and must produce proof of being a lawful permanent resident of the United States.

• Applicants must have resided continuously in the U.S.A. as a lawful permanent resident for the last five years immediately prior to applying for naturalization or for the 3 years if the applicant is married to a U.S. citizen.

In addition, applicants must have been physically present in the United States for at least thirty months out of the previous 60 months or 18 months out of the previous 36 months if the applicant is married to a U.S. citizen. Applicants must live in their district or state for at least 3 months prior to applying for naturalization.

• An applicant must be a person of good moral character. The commission of certain crimes, lying to gain an immigration benefit or failing to pay court ordered child support or alimony or failing to pay taxes are just some examples of the problems that could cause an applicant to be ineligible for naturalization.

• Applicants must also demonstrate a basic understanding of the English language, including the ability to read, write and speak simple English. They must also pass a test on United States History and Civics.

Applicants who are 50 years of age and have held permanent resident status for at least 20 years or who are 55 years of age and have held permanent resident status for at least 15 years

do not have to take the English test.

• Applicants will still need to take the civics test but can do so in their own native language such as Spanish.

Applicants who are 65 years of age and have held permanent resident status for at least 20 years do not have to take the English test but still are required to take an easier civics test in their native language.

• Applicants with a physical or developmental disability or mental impairment which prevents them from being able to learn English and civics or demonstrate knowledge of these requirements can apply for a medical exception from having to take the English and civics tests.

• Finally, applicants must prove that they are attached to principles of the United States and swear allegiance to the United States.

HIGHLIGHTS OF OUTSIDE LANDS 2016

Art, music, food and booze bring people together for the weekend’s festivities Arturo Hilario El Observador This is not Coachella, this is not Lollapalooza.

What has sprouted in a once barren field at the edge of San Francisco, much like the history of the park itself, is just a highlight of the great place we Northern Californians reside in.

Outside Lands Music Festival came back to Golden Gate Park through the weekend of August 5-7 for the 8th consecutive year, to celebrate the quirks and elements of the San Francisco Bay Area while attendees danced, eat and drank amongst the treeline of the park.

This year approximately 70,000 daily attendees welcomed musical acts such as Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem and J. Cole among many others,72 to be exact. The fog and cold which was the main weather pattern the whole weekend was of little concern to those there to enjoy in the various genres of music, art installations, types of food and drinks.

With the weather there was zero of those EDM fuzzy boots in sight. Casual, layers, and stylish folks reigned supreme as photographers snapped their pictures amongst the art and the trees.

Over the years one of the most positive aspects of the festival has been the meshing of San Francisco’s eclectic cultures and history with its present amongst the throngs of musicians.

Live canvas paintings are done throughout the day for the entirety of the 3 days festival. This year some artists included Tatiana Suarez, Sam Flores, Ricky Watts and Bunnie Reiss.

Year after year these paintings are then slowly added to the “walls” that are formed around various sections of the park. These walls of connected are create a gallery amongst the nature of Golden Gate Park which have some that go back to the first Outside Lands in 2008.

Other artistic endeavors this year were parades of people made up of stilt walkers, drummers and a large, clunky chrome bear that walked through the festival goers, who would understandably stop and pull out their phones for a great shot of these performances.

Years past a big sign that said Outside Lands used to adorn the top of the main stage, Lands End, and be lit up at night. This year it was moved to the ground where you could pose with it close to the Panhandle stage.

But the attraction that replaced this sign on the Lands End stage is in my opinion an art installation in itself. A glittery silver depiction of the Golden Gate Bridge now loomed above the concertgoers and performers, and as light hit it throughout the day it served as a shiny, more low key version of a disco ball, but as night fell and it lit up it glowed blue. At each of the two towers of the bridge and two locations to the side came up static blue beams of light that projected into the cloudy sky. It was a very cool display that definitely highlights that this is the main stage as opposed to the sign that was up there the previous 7 years. It was a fantastic display while watching Radiohead.

As a segue into the next most interesting part of this year’s festival let’s go over “twerking”.

Although it is a dance/body movement that has existed for decades, only in the last few years has it exponentially grown into a slice of americana. With that I introduce the “Beignets and Bounce Brunch” segment of Outside Lands GastroMagic area of the festival, which touts itself as “the home for innovation around what is possible in food, drink, music, magic, and more”.

Until 2017, I definitely suggest checking out the playlists available on Spotify for an idea of the music that provided a soundtrack to the happenings of the weekend, including the twerking for Beignets.

FACEBOOK IS KILLING CLICKBAIT ...and the Results Will Surprise You! on organizations that are gaming (or trying to game) its platform.

On June 29, 2016, Facebook’s VP, Product Management, News Feed Adam Mosseri wrote a post titled Building a Better News Feed for You. It opens, “The goal of News Feed is to show people the stories that are most relevant to them.

Today, we’re announcing an update to News Feed that helps you see more posts from your friends and family. We explain this change in more detail here.” It has been a few weeks, and I can tell you that I’ve received several cries for help from small publishers who have been crushed by this. An average experience is a 50 percent loss of traffic, but in a few cases, it’s more like 90 percent. The solution is to pay up, but in most of the cases brought to my attention, the economics of “pay up” simply don’t work.

This new policy undoubtedly improves Facebook’s user experience. From a consumer’s standpoint, transparency is always good. It’s also good for advertisers. They get an opportunity to purchase a new ad product and get Facebook insights to help them evaluate their ad buys. But for publishers, giving advertisers access to the data from tagged branded content or posts will reveal all kinds of stuff publishers would rather advertisers not see. How much traffic came from Facebook ads and how much traffic came from the publisher’s site? What is the value of the publisher’s dedicated audience of avid users?

This new metric sharing is also likely to impact the practice of bundling because advertisers can now figure out the spread between the prices they are paying publishers and the price Facebook is offering directly. While it’s not always apples to apples, for many publishers, this is not good news.

Shelly Palmer Much has been written about why and how Facebook is killing clickbait and what effect that might have on publishers, agencies and marketers. But to truly understand the impact of this newly updated anti-clickbait algorithm, you need to consider a few other recent Facebook policy changes that, when taken together, will make it harder and more expensive for publishers to bundle native content, drive traffic and accomplish their reach goals.

The War on Clickbait Regarding clickbait, in answering the question, “Will this impact my Page?”

Facebook writes, “We anticipate that most Pages won’t see any significant changes to their distribution in News Feed as a result of this change.” Which is code for “Of course it will.”

While reducing clickbait is a noble goal, consider the title of this article: “Facebook Is Killing Clickbait and the Results Will Surprise You!” I intentionally crafted it as the kind of clickbait Facebook is trying to eliminate. Facebook’s approach to curtailing clickbait suggests that “headlines that intentionally leave out crucial information, or mislead people, forcing people to click to find out the answer” will be targeted by the new algorithm. But let’s not quibble about clickbait. It is generally used for untoward purposes, and there are several bad actors who need to be reined in.

Instead, let’s concentrate on something that may surprise you: the collateral damage from Facebook’s systematic war

Earlier in June, Facebook went after branded content (Facebook’s term for native advertising) saying, “Verified Pages (with the blue checkmark) can share branded content on Facebook as long as they follow our updated branded content policy and ads policy and use the branded content tool to tag marketers in their posts.” This is actually a big deal.

Publishers have never really been allowed to promote branded content on Facebook pages. The work-around was to create a page dedicated to content and share the branded content from that page.

Publishers could also create dark posts – ads that didn’t show up on the publisher’s page but did show up as ads in news feeds. This is over.

Now, publishers have to tag advertisers in branded content, which makes it unambiguously clear that “native advertising” is actually advertising.

There is nothing wrong with this idea, but tagging the advertiser comes with a twist — when a publisher tags an advertiser, not only will Facebook show the advertiser the metrics, the advertiser can pay Facebook directly to turn the content into a sponsored post.

In practice, some publishers will be able to work around these algorithm and policy changes by throwing money at the problem. But many small publishers won’t have the margin to solve their referral and reach issues by paying to boost content. For them, killing clickbait is the cherry on the cake of these recent policy changes. For everyone else, it’s time to adapt.
