WARRIORS VS KINGS Takeaways from the Warriors New Star Studded Roster Justin Rossi El Observador The Golden State Warriors played their 2nd SAP Center preseason game in San Jose against the Kings on Thursday, October 6, 2016, showcasing their immensely talented roster. The team is stacked, that much is evident watching this team in the early goings. But it was not a perfect game by any means, and there is still plenty of work to be done before the regular season starts.

they are focused on cutting down those turnovers. Postgame Steve Kerr noted that the team’s performance wasn’t where it needed to be. “Sloppy, that’s all we talked about before the game was execution. We expended a lot of energy against the Clippers the other night and this was a natural let down game. I was really trying to implore our guys before the game to take care of the ball and execute and unfortunately we didn’t do it”. Luckily they still have time to work out those kinks.

The first thing that pops out about this Warriors roster is the efficiency of the shooters and how lethal this team will be from a spacing and scoring standpoint. No team will be able to go toe to toe with the Warriors in a shootout. Between Klay Thompson, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant the Warriors probably have the three most dangerous outside bombers in the NBA, each equipped with fast releases and unwavering confidence. Defenses will be stretched very thin, giving the offense and Steph plenty of room to work. At the same time, the rhythm and cohesion of the players is not quite there yet.

Defensively, the team struggled against the Kings, specifically against Demarcus Cousins and his size inside. He routinely beat Zaza Pachulia for easy buckets. This is the one clear weakness of the Warriors roster. Luckily for the team, the NBA has transitioned away from centers and power forwards who abuse teams inside and most likely won’t run into many teams that can exploit that part of the roster. Zaza isn’t the most fleet-footed, and defensive rotations were a step slow when he was in the game. Small ball lineups with Draymond Green and Durant playing the 5 and 4 had more disruption and success defensively. Green and Durant offer plenty of versatility defensively.

In the first half, there were too many turnovers and deflected or tipped passes. The timing is not there yet, but I expect it to improve over the course of the preseason. For the Warriors part

Speaking of Durant, he appears to be gelling much quicker than expected. The fact that his skill set fits in so seamlessly with the teams’ offensive and defensive schemes is what

I believe will help his transition. Unlike other iterations of “super teams”, this team’s stars compliment one another on the court. Kevin doesn’t over dribble and makes decisive offensive moves. Green is a natural distributer with the ability to hit the three or drive to the bucket. Klay does much of his damage off of catch and shoot threes and rarely spends time pounding the rock. Curry helps the spacing as the premier marksman of the NBA and is a playmaker. Each can shoot and defend multiple positions. The pieces work together so fluidly and that is more impressive to me than the raw talent assembled. And the talent assembled is incredibly impressive. Still, Durant knows this is only the beginning. He isn’t banking on talent to carry them and knows there is work to be done so everyone can be on the same page. “We are still just figuring out the offense, the lineups, what guys do and their tendencies. It’s all new and it’s all going to take some time, we just have to be patient.” Luckily for fans, these players fit so well together that it won’t take as much time as the super teams before them. Everyone expects this team to be great, and to win championships. The players expect it as well, and are putting in the necessary work to get there. This year could be something extra special for the Warriors and their fans.

VOTING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2016

Hilbert Morales EL OBSERVADOR Since 1986, as a Latino advocacy publication, EO has published its recommendations regarding how Latinos could vote in the best interests of themselves and their community. The November 8, 2016 ballot is massive. Is it that today's elected officials have no fortitude and spine? Do not they realize that once 'We, the People” vote them into their elected office, each is required to 'do their job'...which is to craft legislation which does the most for the greatest number of Americans. Since 1975 the middle class has not benefitted from the many public policy decisions promulgated by the top 0.1%; the trickle down theory of economics which benefits the top 1% has not been replaced; Corporate executives focus upon profits without taking into account their responsibility for “community stewardship”; and after President Barack Obama was installed, certain elected officials pledged to oppose any and all public policy proposals made by this first African-American President. Their bias, bigotry, prejudice and racism is evident. These extreme conservatives along with 'DARK MONEY' have resulted in a 'do-nothing' Congress since 2008. Wall Street's overvalued Derivatives were the cause of the 2008 Recession. It was 'We, the People' who stood behind the 'full faith and credit' of the American Treasury while under the leadership of Obama Administration, it took extraordinary actions to initiate economic recovery. During this period, America remained the world's 'superpower'. It is time to elect officials at all levels of America's government who will refuse DARK MONEY and 'do their job' which is to craft legislation which accomplishes the 'Greatest Good' for all America's residents. It is time for the 'Silent Majority', especially ethnic communities of color, to speak up with their votes. The 'Do-Nothing' members of the U.S. Congress must be replaced by newly elected members who will look out for the basic needs of the American People whose consumer society has made this Democracy the greatest world power ever known in the history of humankind. It is especially essential that the Latino vote show up and be counted, thereby becoming full stakeholders who may hold elected officials accountable and responsible. The following are EO's Publisher-Emeritus's recommendations for your consideration. EO is not asking you to blindly by following these voting recommendations. WE ARE ASKING YOU TO VOTE ACCORDING TO YOUR OWN VALUES AND DECISIONS. Because EO advocates for RESPONSIBLE COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP by Hispanic voters who are residents of under-represented

and often exploited communities, EO asks you to make your vote count by actually voting in massive numbers (75% or more). Things change when your elected officials ate at the conference tables where policy decisions are crafted to allocate resources. Direct representation results in access to education, health care, housing, living wages, reasonable taxes, reasonable immigration laws, etc. The Latino community is responsible for $1.3 trillion in purchasing ;power which generates taxes which need to 'come back' to meet the urgent needs of our low income communities. MAKE YOUR VOTE COURT; DO YOUR BIT BY VOTING! Your personal decisions reflected by your votes impact very complex matters, but they must be made by elected officials who listen to and abide by the expressed will of “We, the People' as the primary stakeholders. That means that “THE ESTABLISHMENT”, both Democratic and Republican must be replaced with reasonable elected officials who will agree to take essential actions, negotiate, compromise, and do what is possible for the 'Greater Good of this American Nation' which, despite all its flaws, is still the single nation which is the 'Home of the Brave and Land of the Free”. Do not listen only to mainstream media (press, radio and TV). Use only official information available online at <sccvote.org>; go to “Home Page”; click on “Candidates and Measures”. Another source is “League of Women Voters, Palo Alto” whose motto is “Making Democracy Work” (Their information is non-partisan; factual, truthful and very high integrity). What follows are 'EO's Publisher-Emeritus'” recommendations. If you disagree, use your ballot to COMMUNICATE YOUR OPINION AND DECISIONS:

TALISMANES Y AMULETOS PARA LA PROTECCIÓN Y LA SUERTE Mario Jiménez Castillo El Observador

Getting to Know the Open Air Health Fair Arturo Hilario El Observador On the weekend of October 15th and 16th, Berryessa Flea Market will be host to the yearly Open Air Health Fair, which provides free healthrelated services, classes and assistance with insurance enrollment. Cindy Tran is a Research Associate from Public Health Institute who is working locally at The Health Trust. Her work involves figuring out how to best increase access to direct services at the community health fair. Recently, she gave us insight into how and why this health fair is important. Can you go over the main features that people have come to appreciate every year, as well as any new services that are being offered? First and foremost, it's the variety of health services offered and the comprehensive care each patron receives. Cardiovascular health screenings, oral health screenings, family health insurance enrollment and flu shots are staples at our health fair, as is our effort to ensure each patron understands his/her screening results and the actions required to maintain a healthy life. All of our patrons that require translation services (Spanish or Vietnamese) are accompanied by volunteers that walk them through the entire screening process from the moment they sign

in. Furthermore, after clients receive any of our direct services, we immediately connect them with culturally competent self-management services or clinics. We also follow-up with patrons within a week after the health fair to check on them and see how we can address any barriers or issues to ongoing support. This year, we are excited to offer two new direct services: we partnered with See The Lord to offer vision screenings and new customized prescription glasses, and with Valley Medical Center to offer asthma screenings. See The Lord is a nonprofit organization that provides sight to the underserved domestically and internationally. Valley Medical Center is a Medical Center that is part of the Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System. What is the goal of the Health Trust and the involved organizations in providing this information and health services? For 20 years, The Health Trust has strived to make Silicon Valley healthier for everyone. We do this by ensuring that health related policies and services exist so that race, language, income and age do not keep residents from enjoying the healthiest lives possible. That is why we partner with so many organizations to conduct our annual health fair during Binational Health Week. Improving the health and well-being of the underserved Latino population is important to

us, and we are extremely grateful that there are so many organizations in this valley that share the same sentiment. Whether it’s The San Jose Flea Market housing our event or Univision promoting the event, our health fair is truly a collaborative effort that aims to improve the health of our Latino community. Why is it important for families to visit and learn at this event? How can they find out more details year-round? A person’s health is extremely important as it affects every aspect of his/her life. We encourage families and individuals to attend our event because everyone should know whether they

have high cholesterol, need glasses or may be pre-diabetic. Knowing your health condition(s) is the first step in creating an action plan to live a healthy life. Living a healthy life is what we want for all of our clients and what we try to help them achieve.
