TWO RETIREE INCOMES; SAME NEEDS
or bad for this socio-economic American community. His concern was that of PresidentElect Trump, and how he during the past election campaign had used language which encouraged the racist element to come out of the shadows.
As a commentator on issues which I believe are of interest to many EO's readers, I decided to convey to you my personal experience Thanksgiving Day at a festive family meeting in San Francisco.
His main concern was what would he do if his mother's health failed or her home required major repairs. As a former programmer, his employment was sporadic; not reliable.
During the meal, an 83 year old widowed neighbor told me that she lives on $1,000 per month (Social Security); her home, bought during the 1940's for $28,000 was paid for; has never been remodeled nor renovated. Her furnace is the original potbellied cast iron gas-fired model; the electrical circuitry is original. She is from Arkansas; married at age 17; never attended college; did a variety of service jobs while her husband served in the military.
“Those good ole white boys in Arkansas really like Trump; they think white supremacists will now guide this nation. But I have news for Trump...America now has millions of college educated individuals who have read the U.S. Constitution; who have fought to sustain this Democracy, … and there is no way in hell that he can become an effective President without living up to, and honoring, the American ideals as established in our Constitution. He better not cut back on Social Security nor on Medicare/MediCal. If Trump is really a 'real estate mogul', he needs to deal with creating an affordable home national program. I can ensure that my mom will never go hungry; but I cannot cope with this crazy real estate market in which some people get filthy rich while others end up

impoverished. People need the basics, regardless of their social or racial status. If Trump messes up, ordinary people in Arkansas are angry enough to revolt.”
Here, in one generation, individuals went from being impoverished and uneducated to the college trained level who could look out for each other. This woman and her family do not need to be 'filthy rich', but they do need to continue to live in a stable socio-economic environment in which they can sustain their lifestyle and its requirements. Two weeks ago, a single friend, age 80, came to our home to get advice about her financial situation. She had just sold her home and was down-sizing to a more modest life style. I asked her about her assets. She replied, “I have $470,000 in the bank making no interest earnings; I have $370,000 from my mother's estate. Oh, I just remembered I have $90,000 in another bank; and $30,000 in a credit union.” I proceeded to ask, 'do you have a budget?' “Oh, no...I just spend what I need to.” I told her to do the following: for one week, every time you spend money or pay a bill using a check or credit card, ask for a receipt and place it in a brown paper bag. At the end of the week, analyze what you have done with
your money. She was astonished by her analysis of her 'brown bag receipts'- how many 'impulse purchases' were made for stuff she did not need. I told her that now that she was 80 years old, she couldn't do that anymore.
She is a Stanford University graduate; who worked for Palo Alto Hospital (before it merged with Stanford University Hospital); upon retirement she worked as an editorial assistant for a publishing house; bought and managed a small hotel which she sold. Later, She revealed that she had just quit her job at Stanford University Medical Center and had not received any retirement fund payments, ever! With our advice, she is now making her claims for any and all retirement funds due her. In brief, this single 80 year old educated woman, now knows that she has enough money to sustain herself during her 'sunset years'. Instead of planning to spend her money so that it runs out when she passes on, I pointed out to her that, “none of us know when we will die. A better way is to invest your wealth so it provides a stable income during your entire lifetime. And, have a will which bequeaths your wealth to a nonprofit organization or relative.” As it stands she has enough wealth in hand to purchase a
home and still have enough monthly income to sustain her life style. To the main point of these parables, what would upset the personal plans of these two women? It would be extraordinary health care expenses or home repairs. Based upon these retirees, this nation needs to sustain its Social Security Administration's purpose; create an affordable national health care system; and establish a national housing policy. Its elected officials need to ensure that all financial institutions are monitored to ensure honesty and integrity. It's important to continue to enable any individual who wants to become educated to achieve the personal development needed at each stage of one's life. Though these two individuals are from different sectors of the American community, they both need stable reliable sources of personal income, housing, health care, and an education which enables them to perform critical thinking and to make evidence-based choices. Both were working class consumers neglected by both major political parties which have other priorities. What this nation needs most is a stable society and reliable domestic economy. All elected officials need to include the needs of retirees for peace and socio-economic stability.
Un Fenómeno Alarmante Por José López Zamorano Para La Red Hispana Sólo el mes pasado, más de 46,000 inmigrantes indocumentados fueron detenidos entre los puertos de entrada en la frontera suroeste de los Estados Unidos, lo que representó un incremento en relación con los 39,500 de octubre y los 37,000 de agosto. Pero lo más alarmante es que esas cifras incluyen un nuevo aumento de niños no acompañados, además de los que se entregan a las autoridades en los puntos de cruce para solicitar asilo político. La mayoría de esos niños provienen del llamado “Triángulo del Norte”, que comprende a El Salvador, Nicaragua y Guatemala, que es una fuente creciente de niños migrantes hacia Estados Unidos. Actualmente más de 41,000 personas, muchas de ellas niños y adolescentes, están recluidas en los centros de detención migratoria del país.
Nadie está quedándose con los brazos cruzados. Estados Unidos ha renovado su compromiso de otorgar una legitima audiencia a quienes soliciten asilo a través de un mecanismo de revisión en los países de origen; Costa Rica llegó a un acuerdo con el Alto Comisionado de Naciones Unidas para Refugiados y los países centroamericanos buscan aliviar las condiciones económicas y de seguridad que impulsan la salida de sus nuevas generaciones a un futuro incierto.
La CIDH exhortó a todos los países de la región, sin excepción, a reforzar las instituciones responsables de la promoción, la protección y la defensa de los derechos de la niñez a nivel local, a establecer sistemas que permitan una medición de los avances realizados en materia de derechos de la niñez, y destinar los recursos humanos y financieros necesarios para garantizar el adecuado funcionamiento de los sistemas.
Es por ello que cobra una urgencia sin precedentes el llamado de la Comisión Interamericana de los Derechos Humanos (CIDH) a fortalecer los sistemas nacionales de protección integral de los derechos de los niños, niñas y adolescentes de la región, con motivo del aniversario de la adopción de la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño por la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas.
Una de las recomendaciones de la CIDH llama especialmente la atención: otorgar un “rol más protagónico” a la voz y a las opiniones de los propios niños, niñas y adolescentes, empoderándoles en el conocimiento de sus derechos, en la identificación de situaciones de riesgo y vulneradoras de sus derechos, así como en fortalecer su participación en la búsqueda de soluciones, y en el monitoreo de las políticas.
Es indudable que si bien los gobiernos del hemisferio han dado un renovado sentido de urgencia a atender las condiciones que ponen a los menores en una posición de vulnerabilidad, las cifras sugieren que, en el mejor de los casos, los esfuerzos o no han sido suficientes o los avances no están materializándose con la celeridad que reclama la precaria situación. Sea pues el aniversario de la Convención de los Derechos del Niño una oportunidad para reflexionar sobre las políticas que han funcionado, sobre lo que hace falta por hacer y sobre los mecanismos para sumar aún más las aportaciones de las organizaciones de la sociedad civil y de las personas en lo individual. CODING CLASSES FOR TEENS AND CHILDREN NOW OFFERED AT LIBRARIES Partnership with Hour of Code to Increase Learning Accessibility of Important Coding Skills for Santa Clara County Children
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – Computer coding, a system of signals representing letters or numbers which are then transmitted electronically to a computer to complete a task, is becoming increasingly important in today’s electronic world as well as the skills and knowledge needed to write and create these codes. In an effort to combine Silicon Valley’s growing need for skilled tech workers and the unique ability for local libraries to provide classes free of charge in a safe learning environment, County of Santa Clara Supervisor Mike Wasserman, Chair of the Santa Clara County Library District Board is spearheading the effort of offering robust, free of charge coding programs for youth throughout the Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) seven community libraries, starting December 3. “The earlier a girl or boy can learn to code, the more ingrained and helpful these skills will be,” said County of Santa Clara Supervisor Mike Wasserman, the champion behind leveraging County libraries availability to make coding classes free and accessible to Santa Clara County children. “We wouldn’t expect future doctors to take their first biology classes in college; why should future tech workers wait to learn these fundamental skills until much later in their studies? They shouldn’t!” Anticipating the current and future job market needs, parents, schools and libraries are joining a worldwide effort to increase the availability of computer science coursework and coding classes to millions of students. The Santa Clara County Library District is partnering with “The Hour of Code,” <https://code. org/learn>, a global movement that has introduced tens of millions of students in
over 180 countries to computer science and computer programming through a onehour introduction course. First introduced by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org (a non-profit company dedicated to expanding access to computer science), the movement has gained momentum and is now in its 3rd year. “Although we live in the heart of Silicon Valley, with high tech companies in every city, not all students living here are exposed to computers and computer programming in their own homes,” said Gail Mason, SCCLD Library Services Manager, Adult and Teen Services. “Our goal is to help teach students from all backgrounds learn the fundamentals of computers and inspire them to acquire new skills in an exciting and fun environment, which will ultimately empower them to succeed in a world that is becoming increasingly digital.” Mason highlighted the Library’s annual Teen Hack-a-thons and its ongoing ‘Girls Who Code’ events among the most popular with the County’s teen audience. 2015 had as many as 7 million job openings that required coding skills, with programming jobs overall growing “12% faster than the market average,” according to a report from Burning Glass Technologies, a job market analytics firm from Boston, MA. The Pew Research Center revealed in a recent social and demographic trends article that an overwhelming 85% of people think that to become more successful it is critical for today’s workers to have a “mixture of technical and ‘soft skills’,” such as a thorough understanding of how to use computers. During the week of December 5-11, 2016, all SCCLD libraries will be hosting at least one Hour of Code event. In addition, SCCLD libraries offer these ongoing Computer Science and Coding Classes:

During a coding class on artificial intelligence and game mechanics, participants will design their own version of the classic game Pong. CAN HEALTHY HABITS CONTRIBUTE TO FINANCIAL SECURIT Y?
StatePoint When it comes to feelings about finances, working Americans are practically split down the middle, according to a recent study. Fifty-five percent of employed Americans feel they are on the right track to achieving financial well-being, while the other 45 percent feel they are not headed in the right direction, according to the 2016 Lincoln Financial Group Measuring Optimism, Outlook and Direction (M.O.O.D.) of America study. So what are those individuals on the right track doing so well? The study found five key factors -- behaviors and influencers -- in their lives that correlate to positive feelings about money. “Right trackers” differ from their counterparts who are not on the right track because: • They are more likely to have created formal financial plans -- more than 70 percent of them, in fact. • They are forward-looking in general, with nearly 100 percent saying they are focused on the future. Also, 90 percent of those in the “right track” camp say they feel in control of their lives. • They exercise more. Those with positive feelings about money tend to be active. About 80 percent of this group exercises at least once a week, and typically more often. Compare that with those who are not on the right track -- just 60 percent of that segment works out on a consistent basis. Physical health can correlate to financial health.
• They’re more likely to feel good about themselves. Financial health and emotional health go hand-in-hand, too. Those on the right track are more likely than their counterparts to say they are optimistic because they feel good about themselves and their relationships with family and friends. They’re also positive about their careers and their relationships with coworkers. • They take advantage of workplace benefits. Indeed, the more benefits you enroll in through the workplace, the better you will feel financially, suggests the study. Beyond health insurance and retirement savings, “right-trackers” are enrolling in insurance plans to cover dental and vision care, as well as life insurance and disability insurance (which can help replace a portion of your paycheck while you recover from an injury or illness). They’re also taking advantage of other nonmedical benefits that can help boost financial security, such as accident insurance and critical illness insurance, which can help cover expenses that medical insurance does not, like high deductibles, or day-to-day expenses such as food or mortgage payments. The future is unknown, but certain insurance coverages offered at work can help safeguard you against a broad scope of unexpected expenses, and can help you feel and be more financially secure. This is something to think about during annual open enrollment for medical insurance and beyond. Feeling good about your finances is about the big picture, not just your bank account. From a healthy lifestyle to a positive attitude, taking a cue from those who are on the “right track” may help you get your footing on the path to financial well-being.

StatePoint Según un estudio reciente, sólo una cuarta parte de los niños y adolescentes hacen suficiente actividad física. Y la actividad física no es sólo necesaria para un cuerpo sano; puede contribuir a tener una mente sana. El informe “2016 Shape of the Nation” de la iniciativa Voices for Healthy Kids determinó que a pesar que la educación física (EF) y otros programas en las escuelas podrían abordar esta brecha, pocos estados tienen políticas que requieren que las escuelas ofrezcan programas de EF efectivos para todos los alumnos. Arturo Hilario El Observador Era temprano en el martes 29 de noviembre, 2016 que empezó el trend en twitter de las palabras “brazil” y “chapecoense”. Para los que están aclimatados con el fútbol, era talvez noticia nueva y excitante sobre el equipo brasileño que contra todo pronóstico había asegurado su posición en los finales de la Copa Sudamericana 2016. Conocidos como el "Leincaster brasileño", el equipo cuyo ascenso a la final contra el Atlético Nacional de Colombia fue inesperado, fue un testamento para el cuerpo técnico, los jugadores y su ascenso notable en la historia del fútbol. Sin embargo, la trend de Twitter se debió a informes no confirmados en el momento que el avión chárter que el equipo había tomado a Colombia no respondía, o había desaparecido. Poco tiempo después, la noticia se levantó, todo antes del amanecer en el oeste de los Estados Unidos. Y la noticia no era buena.

Ahora sabemos que el avión modelo británico se había quedado sin combustible, y minutos antes de su caída libre en las colinas cercanas a Medellin, Colombia, el piloto circuló preguntando frenéticamente por la autorización de la pista. De los 77 personas abordo el avión, sólo 6 sobrevivirían. 5 días antes el equipo estaba en su momento más alto, asegurándose un lugar en los finales de la Copa Sudamericana. Un equipo que hace 4 años era casi imposible imaginar que estarían en el juego más importante del fútbol sudamericano, y de la historia del equipo. Esta semana los aficionados y apoyantes se reunieron. No sólo en el estadio donde jugarían contra el Atlético Nacional en Medellín el miércoles, o en el estadio de Chapecoense en Chapeco, Brazil. Por todo el mundo, en ciudades y pueblos donde el fútbol es también sagrado como en sudamérica, habían recuerdos, momentos de silencio, y llanto.
DECEMBER 2 - 8 2016 Equipo tras equipo expresaba su propio modo de luto, expresando la angustia de perder este grupo de talentosos jugadores que trabajaban duro, ademas de los periodistas que habían estado cubriendo sus éxitos, y el personal del avión. Es triste ver cualquier pérdida de vidas en accidentes y tragedias, pero ésta fue levantada por el hecho de que este equipo había logrado tanto en tan poco tiempo, que estaban al borde de crear la historia, por las razones correctas, no como el equipo que acabó en un accidente de avión. Las familias, los amigos y los que conocían a los miembros del equipo Chapecoense y los periodistas y empleados de la aerolínea siempre tendrán una conexión doloroso con este momento que debía ser uno de celebración y competición. Además de los cercanos a los que comunidad del fútbol a todo alrededor recordará los momentos eternos que existieron en la gloria que viene en ganar un juego decisivo, en los momentos que Chapecoense desafió las probabilidades y se convirtió en una de las historias de fútbol más cautivadoras y sorprendentes en la historia reciente. Pero tal vez el equipo verá su campeonato. A partir del jueves la Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CONMEBOL) estaba examinando la opción de otorgar el campeonato al equipo caído, por la solicitud del competidor de finales Atlético Nacional. Si esto fuera a suceder, sería realmente un momento sin precedentes en la historia del deporte. Pero vale la pena hablar de este momento, vale la pena recordarlo. Sólo podemos esperar y ver qué legado deja esta situación, y esperar que las regulaciones de vuelo sean más estrictas para evitar mas tragedias. Y como un signo de apoyo que ha aparecido en los medios de comunicación social dice, #FuerzaChapeco.

First Post-Election 'Fight for $15' Rally Suzanne Potter California News Service
LOS ANGELES - The election that gave Republicans control of the White House and both houses of Congress isn't stopping the grassroots "Fight for $15" movement, which sponsored what it calls a "National Day of Disruption" on Tuesday, November 29. The group had rallies and workers who participated in scattered strikes at McDonald's restaurants across 340 cities. Airport workers also participated at rallies at Los Angeles International and San Francisco International Airports. Ana Espindola, a wheelchair attendant at LAX, said that after this election, the fight for a living wage is more important than ever. "It's a huge setback - that's why I think it's so important that we still keep pushing, Espindola said. "We still have to fight - we can't just say, 'Well, you know, he's elected; we have to give up. There's nothing we can do.' I'm not the kind of person to just sit back and cross my hands and be like, 'Well, you know, we're defeated. That's it.'"
President-elect Donald Trump has taken multiple positions on the minimum wage. And the House of Representatives hasn't allowed a hearing or a vote on the idea of increasing the national minimum wage from $7.25 an hour since they defeated a bill in 2010 and filibustered another in 2014. California's minimum wage is currently $10 an hour. In the spring of 2016, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill that will raise it to $10.50 as of January 1, 2017 and begins a gradual increase to $15 an hour by 2022. Rico Johnson, an employee at Taco Bell, said he appreciates the momentum of the groups fighting for higher minimum wages. "We're organizing to get our voices out there," Johnson said. "We've got to ensure that everything that we've done thus far does not stop - that it cannot stop. There's too many families out here who are struggling." Tuesday marks the fourth anniversary of Fight for $15's first victory. And on Nov. 8, voters in four states - Arizona, Colorado, Maine and Washington - approved increasing their minimum wages.

According to that testimony, Sessions used the N-word and joked about the Ku Klux Klan, saying he thought they were "okay, until he learned that they smoked marijuana." He has acknowledged that he concurred that a white civil rights lawyer was a “disgrace to his race” and reportedly called a Black attorney “boy” and told him to “be careful what you say to white folks.” We urge the Senate to block his confirmation. In 2006, Sen. Sessions gave a speech on the Senate floor stating “almost no one” from the Dominican Republic coming to the U.S. had skills that would benefit the country.

Coalition Calls for Peaceful but Forceful Opposition to Normalization of Racism, Sexism, Xenophobia, Homophobia, AntiSemitism and Islamophobia
On Tuesday November 29th, the Coalition Against Hate released the discriminatory records of individuals who have been raised as potential appointees or senior staff in a Trump administration with deep ties to racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. The Coalition urges Donald Trump to eject known extremists from his inner circle, such Senator Jeff Sessions, Representative Mike Pompeo, retired Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, Steve Bannon, Laura Ingraham and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach. The coalition, comprised of more than 40 diverse organizations representing millions of Americans, also urge Senators from both sides of the aisle work together to ensure that hate and division are not allowed in mainstream American politics, and block confirmations of Sen. Jeff Sessions and Rep. Mike Pompeo. The coalition will be looking for balanced coverage from the media on Trump’s inner circle that includes their bias against Americans of different races, ethnicity, faiths and sexual orientation. “This is a bipartisan call to action. History will remember who stood against hate and bigotry, and who looked the other way,” stated National Hispanic Media Coalition’s president & CEO and Coalition Against Hate member, Alex Nogales. “We must fight to protect the safety of all Americans. We call on everyone from the grassroots to the U.S. Senate to peacefully but forcefully oppose this dangerous return to mainstream racism. Pompeo has an inconsistent record with Islamophobic remarks and must be scrutinized closely. He broadly accused American Muslim leaders of “silence” in response to terror attacks hundreds of them have actually condemned; this so-called silence, he said, makes “Islamic leaders across America potentially complicit in these acts.” Yet he urged people in one speech last year to differentiate terrorists from regular Muslims, saying “there are many Muslims of good will.” He has described the Guantanamo Bay prison as a “perfect facility” for interrogating terrorists, and he has called CIA torture “within the law.” We urge the Senate to reject Mike Pompeo. Retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn Trump has chosen retired lieutenant general Michael Flynn to serve as his national security advisor. On Twitter, Flynn has spread anti-Semitism and Islamophobia by, for instance, retweeting that “fear of Islam is rational.” He has also promoted the work of
an author who writes that “diversity is white genocide” and stated that Islam is a “political ideology,” not a religion, and is “like cancer.” The national security advisor does not require Senate confirmation, but we call on Donald Trump to rethink his decision. Steve Bannon Other Trump insiders with deep ties to racist movements must also go. Trump’s chief strategist, Steve Bannon, was the chief executive of a website he called “the platform for the alt-right,” a white supremacist movement, and he led an anti-Muslim smear campaign against the founder of Chobani yogurt. He has received praise from former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke and Chairman of the American Nazi Party, Rocky J. Suhayda. Laura Ingraham Trump’s short-list for press secretary reportedly includes Laura Ingraham, who has a long history of hate profiteering. Ingraham infamously stated that Mexican immigrants “have come here to rape and murder our people.” She has compared same-sex marriage to polygamy and incest, suggested that people should wear diapers instead of sharing restrooms with transgender people, and that the U.S. should only accept Christian refugees. Kansas Secretary General Kris Kobach Kris Kobach, Trump’s immigration advisor, has made waves for his recent plans to build a Muslim registry. Kobach’s history in extremism extends well beyond Islamophobic sentiment. He has worked for a racist hate group whose stated purpose is to reduce the number of people of color in the U.S., was behind Arizona’s racial profiling bill, SB 1070, has likened LGBT people to pedophiles, and is a birther.

Roddy Scheer & Doug Moss EarthTalk In recent years, colleges and universities have recognized the capacity for their independent communities to lead the nation as examples of sustainable and carbon-neutral institutions. Colleges in the U.S. and around the world have introduced conservation measures to reduce waste, installed solar panels to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and promoted shared vehicles to reduce carbon emissions, among other initiatives. Many colleges have followed the lead of Stanford University’s “Green Campus” program by replacing disposable plastic utensils with organic alternatives. Cutlery made from potato starch and sugarcane allows students to simply put all waste in compost bins, including the utensils themselves. This compost is reintroduced in turn as fertilizer for use on university gardens. Reusable mug programs accomplish similar goals. At Portland Community College in Oregon, bringing your own mug gets you a fivecent discount per drink, while other colleges with meal plans offer similar incentive programs. And efforts to reduce waste aren’t limited to the dining hall. The University of Illinois UrbanaChampaign and Purdue University have partnered with Kimberly-Clark Professional’s RightCycle program to recycle non-hazardous lab waste. Since joining the program in 2013, the colleges have redirected six tons of plastic waste from landfills for use as shelving, flowerpots and furniture.
buildings—are ideal locations for photovoltaic panels, especially as peak electrical production correlates with peak demand during daytime hours. And photovoltaic installations are not limited to sunny states; Colby College completed a 1.9 megawatt project in 2015 that is currently the largest system in Maine. Other forms of renewable energy have also seen tremendous success on college campuses. A University of New Hampshire project provides over 80 percent of its energy using landfill gas. And Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana has replaced its outdated coal boilers with 3,750 geothermal wells that utilize the Earth’s interior temperature to regulate heat in campus buildings. Colleges have also taken steps to green up transportation. Vermont’s Middlebury College introduced its Yellow Bikes Cooperative in 2001 to offer public bicycles to students for just $6 per year. And students there who complete a free class on bicycle repair are rewarded with a free discarded bike. Many colleges also now partner with Zipcar to offer student rates, reducing the need for personal vehicles on campus. And dozens of colleges nationwide have replaced campus car and bus fleets with electric vehicles. These are just a few examples of how higher education is walking the talk on the environment. If your school isn’t already moving in the same direction, there’s no time like the present to team up with students, faculty and administrators to initiate earth-friendly policies and encourage greener behaviors.
Meanwhile, 48 different colleges—from Harvard to UC Santa Cruz—have signed on with the Post-Landfill Action Network (PLAN), which helps universities reduce waste through plasticfree initiatives, waste audits and move-in/moveout collections and subsequent sales.

SAN FRANCISCO – On Wednesday, November 30, Matthew Tejada, director of U.S. EPA’s Office of Environmental Justice, joined state and local leaders to highlight the importance of reducing chemical exposure for nail salon workers. EPA also announced the award of an Environmental Justice grant to Asian Health Services, a partner with the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative, to pilot a microloan program that will help salon owners achieve “healthy nail salon” standards.

Oakland Raiders The Oakland Raiders are joining with players across the NFL to wear custom cleats reflecting their commitment to charitable causes during this Sunday's contest versus the Buffalo Bills at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The NFL announced this week that NFL players will have the chance to share the causes that are important to them during all Week 13 games, as part of the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats campaign. The initiative is a culmination of 18 months of collaborative
work between the NFL and players across the league, and includes an online storytelling platform, in partnership with The Players’ Tribune. The Raiders are taking it one step further and involving the entire organization. In support of the My Cause, My Cleats program, Owner Mark Davis will join with more than 20 players to support the charitable cause that is important to them by wearing personalized cleats during the game on Sunday against the Bills.
Defensive Khalil Mack will use his cleats to promote awareness for Lupus while quarterback Derek Carr's cleats will bring attention to Neonatal Care. Officially, CES® 2017 runs from January 5 through January 8, 2017. That’s Thursday through Sunday, so Las Vegas weekend rates apply. To maximize your CES investment (and to help you financially justify a weekend in Vegas), here are five reasons CES 2017 will be awesome! 1 – People. CES is the largest trade show in North America. Attendance over the past few years has hit ~177,000, and the show is growing in popularity. As Yogi Berra once said, “Nobody goes there anymore; it’s too crowded.” But it’s not the number of people who attend that makes the show awesome, it’s the quality. No matter the industry, if it is touched by consumer technology, you will find a core group of industry leaders doing something awesome at CES. I have not found a better inter-industry networking environment anywhere. In truth, the show is so big, you may need some help making it smaller and maximizing your time. There are many companies, including ours, that offer this service. 2 – Trends. Of the many valuable things about CES, one of the most valuable is what you feel when you walk the show. Solicitudes para Concesiones Culturales La Oficina de Asuntos Culturales de la Ciudad de San José (OCA) aceptará solicitudes para concesiones de tres programas culturales competitivos: Las Concesiones Para Festivales, Desfiles, y Celebraciones (Festival, Parade and Celebration Grants [FPC]) proveen apoyo para festivales comunitarios, desfiles y celebraciones por parte de organizaciones no-lucrativas en San José. Eventos de recaudación de fondos no califican. La fecha límite es el 23 DE ENERO, 2017 a las 5pm. Las Concesiones Operativas (Operating Grants [OpG]) proveen apoyo general operativo a organizaciones de arte profesionales o semi-profesionales en San José con un presupuesto consistente arriba de los $50,000, y una temporada completa de programación de las artes. La fecha límite es el 30 DE ENERO, 2017 a las 5pm. Las Concesiones take pART proveen apoyo para actividades de arte abiertas al público por parte de organizaciones en San José.
