Hilbert Morales EL OBSERVADOR Let us all appreciate 'one's life, its style, its tranquility and peace' in this American nation...especially where we live. Whether it is in Silicon Valley (San Jose, CA, USA) or elsewhere, we all need to appreciate that in the most powerful super-power of this world, transition of leadership has proceeded peacefully. No assassinations have occurred; no armed conflict between protagonists is happening in America. But let us all thank GOD that our nation is in 'peaceful turmoil' where the value of life has not yet been the cause of reducing cities to rubble. Let us remember that the Founding Father of America were White men who had migrated to America seeking their own 'Life, Liberty, and Peaceful pursuit of Happiness.” They had experienced Royalty who had abused them and their families in a variety of ways: Taxation without representation; no freedom to make personal choices; freedom to speak freely and openly; to assemble peaceably; to publish truthful facts and question those in authority

without fear of retaliation or retribution; and to have the right of due process under the law of the land. In fact, in Europe there was no 'Law of the Land' during the 1700's. There existed Royalty who decreed undocumented 'English Common Law' to achieve their whims of the day. Women were chattel; debtors were jailed; many were enslaved.
We, who live in America today, must realize what the Founding Fathers gave future citizens of America. Two great gifts: The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution...especially its Bill of Rights (the first ten amendments). Democracy and its ideals were documented and by July 4, 1776 America's initial 13 colonies became the initial United States of America which was still imperfect. Later on, after the Civil War, President Abe Lincoln freed the slaves (Emancipation Proclamation, 1864). What followed was the Suffragette Movement which resulted in women having the right to vote; followed today by the struggle to not hassle those who are gay, lesbian, or transgender. These developments must be understood as a process whereby Democracy is made more perfect. And wherein all citizens understand that it is up to each one of us to have the knowledge, discipline and courage to live ,and let live, in peace and harmony in this fortunate nation into which many still
want to enter as immigrants.
America is more than 'a nation of immigrants'. It is a community wherein as a consequence of being free is to observe nature, to understand natural phenomenon happening on this earth and this universe. Many insightful, creative and innovative individuals have exercised their freedom to understand, create and innovate. In practice, today Silicon Valley is the epicenter of creativity and innovation which is being copied and monetized. The outcome is an accumulation of wealth which has become the major challenge of its economy, community and government. Some amongst us have too much wealth. Some do not have enough wealth to be engaged in this domestic economy as basic consumers. There are gaps in the capitalistic economic system and its practices. Gaps which result in extreme disparities and inequities which have created the same climate amongst residents as existed in Britain, France and Spain during the 1700's. Do not despair because the U.S. Constitution contains the tools to rectify and adjust the direction of our efforts so as to create a future which is desirable and equitable: First, each of us must understand that we did not create the natural wealth which
presently exists on this Earth. Communities of faith believe all natural wealth was created by GOD (and since the universe is still expanding per astrological observations, GOD is still at work). But here is my major point: Humanity is the steward of all on this earth; not the 'owner' nor the creator. Therefore, as stewards, during our lifetime, each of us must share our wealth according to our means and ability. Wealth was not meant to be stored in silos (banks); monetary systems were created to facilitate distribution and transactions in an economy which is monitored by government, presided over by 'We, The People' so as to mitigate the impact of power, influence, and greed. Elected officials, after being installed in their official jurisdiction, must set aside their partisan proclivity and ideology. White Supremicism, racism, nationalism, jihadism, misogyny, etc. cannot be the basis for inaction or action. The immediate job of elected officials is to make those policy decisions which may benefit the entire national community; not just a favored few. Enhancement of the common weal; the promotion of the greater good for the many must be the goal and objective.
sion making gridlock at the U.S. Congress. Elected officials must set aside their partisanship; retain their personal values and ideal; resist being 'bought off by lobbyists in order to conduct the people's business through debates, negotiations, and then reach the compromises which become the law of this American nation. An urgent reality is that Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs may be utilized to determine a basic level of 'guaranteed annual personal income' each individual resident receives as an entitlement, to be used to sustain an accepted level of humane existence. This 'basic life style' can be monitored and adjusted by local jurisdictions. The current practice of capitalism must be modified to mitigate the extreme accumulation of wealth by very few (the top 0.01%). Let's use charity and taxation to redistribute the wealth according to need. It is the humane Christian thing to do. This 2016 Christmas each of us must appreciate the gift of freedom of choice and resolve to protect, defend, and sustain these natural cycles, So Help Us GOD. Enjoy this Christmas; prepare to face the challenges we must face together as a diverse national community.

• No dé información personal.

YOUR GUIDE TO GIFT CARDS The holidays are approaching quickly – meaning deadlines for gift-buying are as well! During this busy season, people often don’t have the time to find and buy the perfect gift for everyone on their list. The solution? Gift cards! According to a holiday shopping survey by the National Retail Federation, gift cards are the most popular gift items – 61% of those surveyed want them! There are two main types of gift cards – retail gift cards that can only be used at specific establishments, and bank gift cards that function like cash and can be used almost anywhere. The former are usually free to purchase, while the latter often are accompanied by a purchase fee. Gift cards are a great gift because of their ease and versatility. To make the experience even easier, the FTC put in place consumer protection measures for gift cards in 2010. The rules state that: money on a gift card can’t expire for at least five years; inactivity fees can be charged only after a card hasn’t been used for at least one year; and the expiration date must be clearly disclosed on the card and any fees must be clearly disclosed on the card or its packaging.
Although gift cards are a great one-size-fits-all gift, there are still a few things to consider when buying them. Your Better Business Bureau (BBB) recommends that you: • Read the fine print. Search the card’s packaging and the card itself for any fees, expiration dates, and terms and condition. Some organizations charge service fees, or will limit the gift card to “in store only” purchases, making it useless for online shopping. If you’re buying the card by phone or online, verify whether there will be any shipping and handling fees. • Start with trust. It’s important to buy from sources you know and trust. Avoid online auction sites – the cards may be counterfeit or obtained illegally. Retailers can cancel stolen gift cards or a criminal might resell a gift card they have already used. If you’re considering buying a card on a gift card resale site, be very careful. It’s impossible to verify the amount on the card or see if it’s expired. If you do go online, make sure to look up the business at bbb.org to view its rating, complaint history and reviews from past customers. It’s also

important to make sure that the site is secure – look for the “https:”, where the “s” stands for “secure”. • Examine the card and packaging for tampering. It’s common for thieves to record a card’s PIN and put it back on the shelf. They wait for the card to be bought and then use it online, wiping the value, before the customer has a chance to. The safest gift cards are those in a thick plastic casing. Make sure the packaging hasn’t been tampered with, and check the back of the card to make sure that the PIN number hasn’t been exposed and no protective stickers have been removed. • Consider the retailer/bank. Consider whether the recipient will be able to use the card – do they live close to the establishment, and if not can they use the card online? It’s also important to consider the financial condition of the retailer or restaurant. If the store location near the recipient closes, it may be difficult for them to use the card. If the company goes out of business or files for bankruptcy, the card may be useless.
among scammers. One common sign that something is a scam is if you’re asked to pay through a gift card or prepaid card - usually bank, Amazon, and iTunes cards. In fact, so far in 2016, around 5% of those that reported losing money to a scam to BBB Scam Tracker paid the scammer with a prepaid card/gift card. Most trustworthy companies will never demand a gift card as any form of payment. If you get a phone call asking for such, hang up and report it to BBB Scam Tracker at bbb.org/scamtracker. • Protect the recipient. Keep the receipt and give it to the recipient. If a card is stolen, a replacement might be issued if you have the receipt. If possible, register the gift card on the store’s website. This can help you find out about any card misuse and protect the card’s balance in case it’s stolen or lost. • Don’t give out personal information. No trustworthy company will ever ask for personal information when you purchase a gift card. Consider it a red flag if you’re asked for personal details.
• Avoid scammers. Gift cards are also popular

StatePoint Most Americans want to stay healthy and prevent disease and illness. For many, this means getting regular check-ups and using their health plan benefits. For others, it seems that ignorance is bliss. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Americans get their preventive services only about half the time, even though preventive care is fully covered at no cost by most health plans under the Affordable Care Act. Preventive services save lives and decrease suffering from advanced illnesses. Vaccinations prevent life-threatening diseases. Health screenings can find serious conditions early. Managing diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure can prevent heart attacks, strokes or kidney failure. Despite these facts, there are numerous reasons people avoid their doctors. “Understanding why you avoid getting your needed preventive care is the first step in taking action for your health,” says Dr. Christina Stasiuk, senior medical director for Cigna. Dr. Christina and the experts at Cigna identified six types of people based on common perceptions. Thinking about where you fit can help you see why you may put off preventive care: • Procrastinators: Procrastinators fear that a check-up will discover a condition that needs to be addressed and will impact them personally and financially. They delay or avoid getting a check-up to cope with their apprehension. • What-if Worriers: What-if Worriers spend a lot of time thinking about unpleasant hypothetical situations and things. While some worriers see a doctor for every ache
or pain, others avoid check-ups altogether because they anticipate an unfavorable diagnosis. • Solitary Sufferers: Many people don’t get help from their doctors to avoid revealing personal issues or concerns -- especially related to mental health or substance use -because they’re ashamed and worried about being judged as weak by others. This fear also keeps them from using their Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) at work. • Super Savers: Super Savers always look for a good deal and hate to pay full price for anything. They pinch every penny and may view a check-up as not worth the cost. Some don’t even realize their health benefit plan covers preventive care services with no outof-pocket costs, or how advanced diseases may cost them much more time and money. • Workaholics: People in this group value work over any other activity. They may consider a check-up to be a waste of time, and don’t realize that poor health can impact the work performance they prize. • Self-Diagnosers: Self-Diagnosers feel confident that they are engaging in healthy activities and the need for a check-up doesn’t really apply to them. They may not consider that early on, many conditions have no physical symptoms. No matter what your own motivations and concerns may be, you can get tips on taking control of your health and using your health benefits to the fullest at Cigna.com. “From vaccinations to early detection, optimal health absolutely includes preventive care. Get past the hurdles and schedule your recommended check-ups. It is crucial for your long-term health and wellness,” says Dr. Christina.

CALIFORNIANS REMEMBER THE HOMELESS
California accounts for 20 percent of the total U.S. homeless population; a homeless group on Haight Street, San Francisco. Photo Credit: Franco Folini
Logan Pollard California News Service LOS ANGELES - California accounts for about 20 percent of the nation's homeless population. Wednesday December 21st marked National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day, when vigils across the state and country honor the memories of homeless people who died this past year. Scott Larson, executive director of HomeAid Orange County, and chairman of the county's Commission to End Homelessness, said it's also a time to reflect on giving to those who are on the margins of society. The Coalition started this event in the 1990s. Larson explained why it's on December 21. "They chose this day because what would be one of the days you would not want to be homeless would be on the longest night of the year, the winter solstice," he explained. He said the face of homelessness in Orange County is complex, the homeless death rate is rising, but Larson explained that may be attributable to better reporting. The Orange County memorial service alone
will honor 175 people. Homeless numbers also have spiked in recent years in Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Diego counties. Federal statistics say about half of the nation's homeless population is over age 50. Larson said it could be weather, or greater exposure to illegal activity, but a lack of housing particularly makes people vulnerable. He said these vigils help bring attention to the issue of homelessness, and anyone can coordinate a similar event. "So, it's really an advocacy component, raising the awareness and bringing attention to, that this is something that occurs, that shouldn't be occurring," he said. "We have people die in our community every year, or every day. But people that are homeless, there are circumstances that, as the result of them being homeless, may have accentuated or led to their death." Larson's group is co-sponsoring an interfaith service. Long Beach, Los Angeles and other cities are also sponsoring events. He encourages people to get involved in ways that are meaningful to them, and stresses that it's important year-round, not just for the holidays.
ADDRESSING HOUSING CRISIS MOVING FORWARD Congresswoman Lee Welcomes Secretary Castro to the East Bay to discuss public-private partnerships to address housing crisis Oakland, CA – This past week Congresswoman Barbara Lee welcomed the Honorable Julian Castro, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, to the East Bay to participate in a tour of the Lion Creek Crossings housing complex and learn about the programs and resources readily available to its residents. Following the tour, Congresswoman Lee hosted a roundtable discussion with Secretary Castro, stakeholders from Uber, Google, and Facebook and housing advocates to discuss the need to preserve affordable housing
and the potential for partnerships between the public and private sector to address the housing crisis in the district. “Now more than ever, it is vital that we work together to establish permanent solutions to the housing crisis in the East Bay. I am pleased that Secretary Castro accepted my invitation to come back to the East Bay to meet with housing advocates and leaders in the technology industry to talk about the potential for public-private housing partnerships,” said Congresswoman Lee. “Federal investments are critical to addressing our housing crisis but it also imperative that the private sector supports affordable housing projects that will keep longtime residents in the neighborhoods they call home.”

SPENDING TIME WITH CANDIES AND PIÑATAS
Local business Dulcería Mi Carnaval benefits from a festive Mexican tradition during the holidays The candy itself also plays an important role during posadas. “Mostly people buy the traditional candy which is the mazapan, duvalins, peanuts, the marshmallow,” Velazquez said. However, not all the month of December generates profit for this family-owned business. Velazquez said that only about two weeks of December people go in to buy what they need for their posadas, as one of their biggest requests are the seven cone piñatas, one of the few places in San Jose that have them. But even then, Velasquez knows that during this season, “It’s a very good last month for us.” He hopes to keep expanding his business by making more custom made piñatas, which are mostly constructed and designed by his wife and him as that has brought in more customers from all backgrounds.
“We have people from India coming, not just Mexicans buy piñatas. We have Chinese and Japanese people, everybody’s buying a piñata for their kids so it has increased our profits when we do custom orders and that’s what brings our customers to our business,” Velazquez said. From local team customizations like a hat emblazoned with the Golden State Warriors logo, to custom Kim Kardashian pinata, these orders come in all shapes and sizes, but are crucial for the business. In one room of the shop Velasquez works on a custom rocket ship order, and just beyond the work table is a finished Disney Dumbo figure, complete with the iconic large ears. They will all break eventually if used for their purpose, but they are wonderful figures to look at until then.

Estephany Haro El Observador Dulcería Mi Carnaval is a small family business located on the street corner of Santa Clara and 24th street in San Jose. Just like any other businesses, Dulcería Mi Carnaval relies on the holiday season to generate a great deal of its overall profits. The shop, a bright pink corner building, houses candy, party supplies and of course the piñatas. Although the main seller is the colorful cast of characters that are the piñatas at the shop, it is not due to people giving them out as gifts or for holiday birthdays, but purchasing them to celebrate one of Mexico’s most popular tradition during the holidays, las posadas navideñas. This tradition not only brings joy to families but also benefits business owners like Jose Velazquez, who has been running Dulcería Mi Carnaval for over 30 years. The partysupply business was passed on to him from his sister after she opened it in 1986. “It has always been a family business, my sister started like in 1986 and I took over like three or four years after she sold it to me, and I’ve been here ever since I've been with this business,” Velazquez said. During this time of the year, Velazquez sees a rise of people that organize posadas coming
into Dulcería Mi Carnaval as he sells the key items of this tradition. Piñatas, traditional candy, candles, and song booklets which are used as part of the communal tradition in Mexico and other parts of Latin America can be found here. The Posadas started in Mexico during the Colonial era to commemorate Joseph and Mary’s pilgrimage through Belen, Jerusalem, according to Mexico desconocido. They are celebrated in houses, churches and in the streets, making a very inclusive and community driven time of the year. The elements of a posada include singing, lighting candles, and breaking special piñatas which are essentially a sphere shape with 7 cones, like a 3 dimensional star. “The holidays are good for us because we sell a lot of traditional stars with seven cones, which means the seven deadly sins… they break one for every posada and people have them like 12 days before christmas,” Velazquez said. The seven cones of the piñatas represent the seven sins of the Christian religion: arrogance, avarice, lust, rage, gluttony, envy and laziness. Each cone representing one the sins, according to Zocalo Mexico. By breaking the cones off these colorful “posada piñatas” one is awarded with the treats within.

SELF-DRIVING CARS: GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT? As the age of autonomous vehicles approaches, expect environmental benefits as well as safety Roddy Scheer & Doug Moss EarthTalk You know the future is here when you see that the car beside you at a red light has nobody at the helm. That’s already happening in California where a few companies (Uber, Google, Apple, Tesla) have begun testing autonomous vehicles on the open road—albeit with human drivers at the ready in case anything goes wrong. Meanwhile, the major automakers have begun integrating autonomous driving technologies (blind spot detection, GPS mapping, assisted parking, etc.) into existing models, and will surely offer their own fully self-driving cars once lawmakers qualify them as street legal, maybe as early as 2018. Proponents say that not only will driverless cars make our roads safer (as they can sense walkers, bikers, other cars and road infrastructure to avoid collisions), but will also be a boon to the environment. Zia Wadud, who co-authored a study released earlier this year assessing the travel, energy and carbon impacts of autonomous vehicles, says the widespread adoption of the technology could reduce energy consumption significantly. “Automated vehicles can interact with each other and drive very closely as a ‘platoon’,” reports Wadud. “This can reduce the total energy consumption of road transport by 4% to 25%, because vehicles which follow closely behind each other face less air resistance.” Beyond the platoon benefit, driverless cars can also shave another 25 percent off overall automotive energy consumption through more efficient computer-assisted ride optimization. Yet another environmental benefit could be fewer cars on the road altogether. “Your car could give you a lift to work in the morning and then give a lift to someone else in your family—or, for that matter, to anyone else: After delivering you to your destination, it doesn’t sit idle in a parking lot for 20-plus hours every day,” report MIT researchers Matthew Claudel and Carlo Ratti in a recent McKinsey.com article. “By combining ride sharing with car sharing
... it would be possible to take every passenger to his or her destination at the time they need to be there, with 80 percent fewer cars.” They conclude that clearing four of five cars from the road would have “momentous consequences” for our cities regarding pollution, traffic, efficiency, and parking. But Jason Bordoff of Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy argues in The Wall Street Journal that driverless cars hurt overall energy efficiency by undermining public transit: “If you can work, watch a movie or sleep while in the car, perhaps you will take a car rather than public transportation or be more likely to drive for long trips.” He adds that autonomous vehicles also “significantly expand the universe of potential drivers” bringing more people (and cars) onto the road and possibly increasing total vehicle miles travelled overall. “Even car-sharing services could increase energy demand if the ease and convenience pulls people away from mass transit, walking or biking and into cars.” Bordoff remains optimistic that autonomous vehicles can provide a net gain for society and the environment, but only if we are careful about how we implement the technology. “To ensure that autonomous vehicles deliver economic, energy security and environmental benefits, we will need supporting policies targeted at those objectives, such as increased fuel-economy standards, investments in public transportation infrastructure, and R&D in alternative vehicle technologies.” CONTACTS: “Help or hindrance?

STEPHEN MCKINLEY HENDERSON ON “FENCES” How is it that you began a career in the arts? What was your motivation or influence? Poetry, I love poetry because I was in a neighborhood where I was different from a lot of people, you know I'm very fair-skinned, african-american and I wanted everyone to know that I was regular. So I would choose every opportunity to belong to something, to be a part of something. And I didn't grow up with my own parents I knew my parents and my brother and my sister but I lived with a foster family so that made me feel a little different. Also because in my neighborhood they’d say I ‘carried the curse’ being as lightskinned as a I was they called it carrying the curse so I felt the odd man out. I wanted to let everyone know that I was human. And my brother, who is deaf, he would go to movies and come and get me he was my older brother so he would take me to some of the movies I wasn’t supposed to go to. So I got to go because he could read the lips when he saw the actors on the screen but parts of the story, off camera, he would ask me what was going on and later on I would act out the stories for him. I got to see “The Misfits”, this great thing that Arthur Miller wrote that had Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. Because my brother was deaf I got a chance to go interpret it for him without signing. I acted it out for him.

A lead in both the stage and screen productions of “Fences”, he gives insight on the process and what he enjoys about it Arturo Hilario El Observador “Fences” is a movie about family. It's a movie about what it means to support those in the family, and the pain that comes and goes in life. It's also about baseball, and Pittsburgh. Starring and directed by Denzel Washington, the popular play which had its start on Broadway in 1987 has been adapted into a film which has the edge of having its main Broadway cast, including Washington, reprise their roles on the screen. The film deals with the family of Troy Maxson (Washington) as he navigates 1950's Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania amidst a brewing crisis in his household. His wife Rose is played by Viola Davis (also coming from the Broadway play), in a superb portrayal of a wife thrust into chaos.
Troy is a sanitation worker, along with his best friend Jim Bono (Stephen McKinley Henderson, another “Fences” alumnus). The two met and befriended each other in prison. “Fences” catches Troy at a critical point in he and his family's life, with consequences that change the dynamic of all their lives. Stephen McKinley Henderson's experience in the movies and on stage is a long and storied career. His work with both the stage and screen adaptation of “Fences” gives him a lot of insight into the translation of the play into film and makes him a very great resource for the film's themes and meaning. Beginning as young as 16, the light-skinned african-american always sought spaces of acceptance, and the theater ended up being one that welcomed him to express his burgeoning talents. The following is a conversation with him about his history with theater, film, and the opportunity to be directed by Denzel Washington for the film version of “Fences”.
When he was trying to raise money, I had an aunt that was trying to raise money for him to go to a school for the deaf, because he was going to school and getting terrible grades and getting made fun of, so he learned the 23rd psalm of the lord’s prayer in sign language and I translated. I would say it , I had it memorized, he was 12 and I was 7 and I saw how inspired he was and the beauty that he was signing it with and I knew I had to do something more than just say it. 'Our father who art in heaven hallowed will be thy name to kingdom come'..I had to do it more than do it by row. And that’s the first time I started doing verse. And I love poetry so all those things together. It’s never one thing. And then somebody needed me to be in a play and I played Helen Keller’s brother in “The Miracle Worker”. After, all that stuff churned together. People needed people to be in plays, and I went and got in plays. I have to admit too there was a girl named Rita, who I followed into a rehearsal or an audition one time cuz I was just trying to follow rita to see how it was going. I always thank Rita when I see her, I'm about to go to my 50 year high school reunion in Kansas City and I'm going to remember to thank her again. Can you describe what it's like to transition from playing Jim Bono on stage to playing him for cameras and the film?
In this particular instance, to relate it to “Fences”, to have been a part of it on the stage was a joy but you know you always have the responsibility that the people in the back row understand and hear you so you have a third eye operating where you are to the lights, to the seats and your voice has to carry all the way back . You’re free from all that when you get a chance to do a film in the actual location and in relationship to the other actor you just need that life level of truth that you see from their eyes so it’s really freeing but it’s great to have had the theatrical experience. This is like the best of all possibilities in terms of rehearsals and preparation and so to have lived with it for that long and then to come and sit with the same cast members in the main, and work together under the leadership of a great actor like Denzel Washington who as a director really knows how to help you as an actor and to allow you to do your work and to be in the space with he and Viola Davis, I feel just so blessed. And to have a great writer, because that’s where it really starts. So a great writer, a world class cast, and paramount pictures sparing no expense to make sure that it’s done right, and then to do it in Pittsburgh where all this lived and was inspired it’s just perfect world, it’s a perfect storm of creative atmosphere there. Tell us a bit about your character, Bono. He starts off as a follower of Troy, he met Troy in prison and I always believed that they made a vow that they would never come back because they knew people who did some time, was out for a while and came back to prison and they were saying never never gonna do that. And Troy started playing baseball then came out and played in the negro league and from my point of view Bono was a big fan and he had just a regular job but he had that because of Troy's leadership. Then when Troy stopped playing ball they both got on the sanitation and then this wonderful opportunity comes up for Troy, to be the first colored driver of a sanitation truck, but it also causes a crisis in his life. Bono was a follower, he was a satellite of Troy and Troy was the center of the world. Then a time comes when he has an opportunity to do the same kind of guidance for Troy, to remind Troy of the principles that Bono always loved in him. When channeling the character of Bono where does the basis of that character come from? When you’re someone’s best friend you can’t be a ‘yes man’ you’re not being a best friend if all you do is allow them to do what they want to do. So it’s a joy to be anybody's best friend, it’s great to play Denzel Washington’s best friend I can tell you that. You know you can only draw from things in your own life and I've had some wonderful
DECEMBER 23 - 29, 2016 friends but as a man I can tell you I’ve had some friends that would be a great friend to a man but would be a woman’s nightmare and I’ve had some that I’ve had to say, ‘hey man, I can’t tolerate that kind of behavior’. Any man knows that there are great qualities towards other men and maybe not be as understanding to a female so I’ve had that experience in my life, so that’s part of what I use for this, which is not the same circumstance at all, but similar. Why is it that audiences should watch “Fences”?

America has ever produced and it’s being directed and acted by one of the greatest actors America has produced. And Viola Davis is at a point in her career that is going to be one of the greatest, to the trajectory of where she goes from here is in the stratosphere, she’s one of the greatest artists you’ll ever work with and it’s a wonderful ensemble cast. It’s about family, it tells you that family can sustain you, no matter with all the warts and everything, your family, knowing your family, accepting that you belong can help you get through whatever is out there for us in the next years to come.
People should watch Fences because it’s written by one of the greatest playwrights

TRUMP'S TECH SUMMIT: WHAT'S NEXT FOR SILICON VALLEY?
leader - and if a president signals that he really wants jobs, she thinks they will listen.
President-elect Donald Trump met last week with key leaders of technology companies from Silicon Valley to discuss job creation, and promised he'd help them continue to innovate. But did he convince them - or the public?
Quinn warned there are legitimate concerns that the tech industry is growing faster than it can adjust to its flaws.
"The average person's trust is just frittered away," she said, "and that's a hard thing to get back." Critics called the Tech Summit nothing more than a photo op, with Trump's children in tow. But Quinn said that looking beyond the theater, these companies respond to a political

Facebook to Curate News: Good Effort or Flawed Proposition?

It was a "Who's Who" of major tech players - Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and more. But on the same day, California's Yahoo! admitted as many as 1 billion users' information was stolen in a massive hack. So, people may wonder if the tech industry can be trusted to tackle job creation, let alone protect personal information, said Michelle Quinn, a tech columnist for the East Bay Times and San Jose Mercury News.

"You know, you get into a car, you expect the car to work. You expect the car not to leak your information all over the place," she said. "And I think that the tech industry's still struggling over the 'bugginess' of itself and also, its security holes." Another topic at the Tech Summit was staying competitive with China. Quinn said that's going to mean a serious commitment to education - from the top down. "In the Bay area, where I'm sitting right now, I am very aware that tech companies have been pouring money into retraining - and particularly high school and the community college level," she said. "But is that the same in other parts of the country? And I don't know." The Tech Summit participants have agreed to meet quarterly.
Logan Pollard California News Service MENLO PARK, Calif. - Silicon Valley giant Facebook has outlined plans to use third-party fact checkers to vet some of its news content. Facebook has come under pressure from users on both the left and right, decrying its use of data collection and charging that it's attempting to control debate on hot-button issues. The fact-checking plan appears to be an acknowledgement of sorts that new media may need a filter. Gabriel Kahn, a journalism professor at the University of Southern California, says news today is different than in the past when there were fewer sources of information "Because there were so few sources, those sources took it upon themselves, for a number of reasons, to act more responsibly and produce, essentially, fact-based journalism," he states. "Not that that system was perfect, but the expectation of the news consumers was that the news organizations were actually giving them real, fact-based journalism."
But critics of this position say injecting people into the process to curate news for the public is a poor replacement for equipping the population with a firm understanding of civics, so people can grasp the facts for themselves. Critics also warn that restricting content could curb free speech and limit access to a variety of points of view. Facebook says it will test the new system first with a small number of users. Kahn says the natural expectation is that these human fact checkers will make mistakes, that the system will be human. "Now, the ecosystem has completely changed, yet the notion of responsibility hasn't filtered down to the public," he points out. "Essentially, what's going on is that we've devolved the responsibility for fact-based news from the news organization to the consumer." Kahn is reluctant to admit that who decides what's "fake" or "real" has a political dimension. Facebook says it'll be targeting "clear hoaxes spread by spammers for their own gain."
