ICON

UNDREDS of people descended on the iconic Mandela capture site outside Howick to pay their tributes, celebrate the life and to lay flow-
ers at the memorial on Sunday. Nelson Mandela died in his home in Johannesburg on Wednesday night (05 December 2013). Mandela was arrested at the site in 1962, and faced charges of conspiracy to overthrow the gov-
ernment. He spent 27 years incarcerated before being freed. Some mourners could not contain their emotions as they openly wept while others sang church hymns. See page 6 for more

Fed-up residents bay for postbox bombers’ blood

OWDY youngsters and Hillcrest residents are coming to blows over a spate of postbox bombings in the area. For the past six weeks — roughly since Guy Fawkes and Diwali — residents have been subjected to “sounds like ATM bombings”. Now a reward of R3 500 has been put up for information that will help apprehend the rascals. SA Can founder Brian Jones said the blowing up of postboxes in the Gillits and Winston Park suburbs has become a huge nuisance to the community. “We havehadcomplaints of four postboxes being blown up in one night; 18 to 20 have been blown up to date. “Most of these boxes are aluminium and can be extremely dangerous when blown to pieces. “We thought this would pass as it started after Diwali and Guy Fawkes, but it had been consistent for the last six weeks,” said Jones. “It is ridiculous to have to hear those postboxes being blown up; they sound like ATM bombings.” Jones says it is no surprise anymore to get a call from residents saying ‘another postbox has been bombed’. “Residents are are so fed-up with this and are so alert to the noise that they just know another postbox has been bombed,” said Jones. It is estimated that postboxes worth R20 000 have been bombed thus far and the unruly youngsters, thought to be between the ages of 17 and 25, are still on the loose. Jones said initially they had decided not to report it because they thought it would be a once-off incident. “Once the Winston Park Neighbourhood Watchcame forward and asked for our assistance, we knew the severity of the issue and have since put out a reward of R3 500 for anyone who would have any leads.” According to Jones, all information regard-
ing all incidents has been handed over to the police and victims have now started to open cases. “The Hillcrest police station has been great in assisting us and with their help we are hoping to make an arrest soon.” Hayden Johnson, the community policing forum chairman for Winston Park, said residents have had enough of any kind of criminal activity taking place in the suburb. Johnson said they have had remarkable support from other neighbourhood watch groups, who have pledged their support in catching the perpetrators. Jones has urged community members or anyone who has any leads on the culprits to contact with him on 082 884 8024.

Tree falls onto motorway >> Falling branches cause damage to cars and could pose a threat to drivers and pedestrians KALISHA NAICKER
U
PPER Highway residents are demanding that the parks and gardens deparment trim trees along Old Main Road after a large blue gum tree fell onto the motorway last week. According to a motorist that did not want to be named, the tree fell at peak traffic time. It caused extensive damage to a vehicle and injured five people, all of whom had to be taken to hospital. “The westbound lanes of the M13 were closed for about 20 minutes while members of the Gillitts Fire Department cut and cleared the tree from the traffic lanes. Old Main Road was closed for almost 2 hours while the

parks department removed the rest of the tree,” said the motorist. Ward councillor Rick Crouch said that he is aware of the incident and has asked the parks department to find a solution. “These trees between Blue Gum Crescent and the pedestrian bridge on Old Main Road in Gillitts are constantly causing damage to vehicles that travel on Old Main Road, this tree falling over was the worst incident thus far,” he said. “I have also witnessed large branches falling from the trees into traffic; I avoid this stretch of road if at all possible. I have asked the parks department to look into a solution and they have assured me that they would.”

Durban residents ‘lock into Mandela’ at FEVER unusual tribute fence December 13, 2013
hillcrest
YOUR VOICES THE death world icon, Dr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela on Thursday evening left many South Africans grieving. The Coastal Weekly, Ballito Fever, Durban North Fever and Hillcrest Fever took to the streets to find what people had to say about the passing of our first democratic president.
Sifiso Mkhize The passing of Tata Madiba has left me with great sadness. Mandela united all races in this country; if he had not done what he did for this country, we would not be where we are today. Our children can now get a proper education and interact with different races. We bid him farewell.
Linda Mthembu u
What a great loss to the country. Nobody will ever fill the shoes Mandela left behind. There will never be another Mandela. I am happy to have known a leader like him, to have been born while he was still alive.

MHLABUNZIMA MEMELA A SOLEMN mood prevailed around Durban this weekend as people brought flowers and other items of significance to them, to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela. A couple of months ago, resident Pat Coetzee got permission from the municipality touse a fence onthecornerofGordonandFlorida roads for the Lock into Mandela project. People were encouraged to bring padlocks and hang them on the fence. With the death of Mandela on Thursday evening, this became even more relevant for residents who wanted to show their respect for Madiba. They came in numbers to lay flowers and other personal items along the fence. A small white vest with the writing, “You gave us life, told us how to live. I love you,” showed the appreciation of the donor. Coetzee himself placed his scarf in the South African flag colours on the fence. “If it wasn’t for him, we would not be here now,” said Coetzee, who was joined by his wife Sha, and their daughters Hannah, Chloe and Gabi. Nancy Nangle, another resident, said, “Madiba was a noble. And we need to celebrate his life.
“Without him, we would not be here as the country.” While placing his flowers near the Madiba legacy fence, Faizel Adam said people are now living in the greatest country in the world because of Mandela. “We have lost the greatest legend that the world has even seen.” The eThekwini Municipality placed a condolence book at the Durban City Hall and people lined up throughout the day to sign it. Mandela was given the Freedom of the City in 1999. Mayor James Nxumalo said the people of Durban have a special relationship with Mandela. “Tata cast his vote in the home of the founding president of the ANC, Dr Langalibalele Dube. “And this was a very significant gesture to us in the city, making our beloved Inanda the birthplace of democracy,” said Nxumalo. He said, “Madiba is the embodiment of peace, love and democracy, whose life has inspired generations throughout the world. And we will continue to walk on his footsteps.” Religious and interfaith groups will hold a prayer memorial for Mandela at the Durban City Hall at a time to be announced.

Mrs Mzoneli When I heard of Mandela’s death, I prayed. The sadness that filled my heart led me to praying that the Lord welcomes him with warmth. When I first met Mandela, he welcomed me with so much love and warmth. We will always love him not only as our leader but as the father of this nation.
Chico Narainsamy Mandela brought me freedom, we are free because of him. I am just afraid of what the country might become now that he is gone, although he freed us all there are still people oppressing us. Mandela was a man of peace but the leaders of today are the opposite of what he was.

EDITORIAL COMMENT
Cry the beloved country MANY will remember February 1990 - I was in school and the principal declared the week Nelson Mandela was released from prison as a week of celebration. He spent time at assembly every morning explaining the importance of his release and his role in our history. My parents also made it their duty to ensure we watched every news bulletin and documentary on his release. At the age of nine, I could not comprehend what ‘freedom’ meant , but I knew Mandela must have been someone great if my parents were ‘forcing’ me to watch TV. This is probably the only time in my life I will watch the world mourn the passing of a man and for years to come people will be talking about what they were doing on the day Mandela died. The Fever newsroom had the privilege of interacting with a number of readers who shared their grief with us (see page 6). Madiba was not solely responsible for fighting for freedom and he said this many times, but I will always admire his ability to forgive and his unconditional love for this beautiful country. South Africans are urged to keep his legacy alive by unifying and working together to ensure a better future for all. For now, the country mourns. Valene Govender

A life of honour and courage IT takes a human of saintly stature to forgive and embrace with love a system that incarcerated him for 27 years. That same system destroyed the lives of countless people within the inner ranks and outside his movement. It caused estrangement and eventually separation in two marriages, which prevented him from being a father to his own children because of the demands and the sacrifices required to achieve freedom, equality and justice. Not once did he reflect any vindictiveness or hate, nor did he ask for the total replacement of the politicians, the security services or the civil servants involved in the active implemen-
tation and perpetuation of the apartheid monstrosity and its vile system of dehumanisation that eroded human liberty, displaced people from their legitimate lands and made them slaves in the land of their birth. There was no anger, no malice, but there was inclusivity in a shared government even to the point of embracing the notorious security and intelligence services in the personal presidential protection unit. Including segments of the old apartheid anthem into the new and donning the No. 6 jersey of a sport which is reflective of the apartheid elite to the dismay of millions who hated that symbolareexamplesofhisleadership.
He showed class, humanity and determination. Never afraid to stand by his principles that all people of South Africa are one nation, that intrinsically men of all cultures, races and religions are good and that love and inclusivity is the solution for a battered, divided and broken nation. This is no ordinary man. May his soul be blessed, may he rest in peace and may all the patience and resilience be granted to family and friend alike. We are all witnesses to the humanity and selfless service of this world icon and salute his humility, kindness and compassion. Imtiaz Sooliman
No justification for his action I SEE that Luis Farias, the new owner of the Hillcrest Caltex Garage has placed a large advertisement in the local newspaper to justify his illegal action of chopping down the indigenous trees on the municipal verge in front of his premises. This includes photos of happy residents supporting his action. Whoarethesepeoplethathehas managed to bring in so quickly in his
support? I suggest that they are staff of his other businesses and family members. Do they even have any affiliation to Hillcrest? Whereas the people who are most vociferous in demanding that he replace the indigenous trees are very specifically people who work tirelessly for their environment. These being the various conserv-

Primate war bottom line! I HAVE worked with vervet monkeys for some time now and have learned somuchaboutthedosanddon’ts,and what’s right and wrong. I read the article on the alleged allegations against Steve Smit and the bottom line is if he isn’t helping, or even trying to help, then who will? The bottom line is at least he is interested and cares enough to say “I will take on the challenge and do everything in my power to help the vervets that cannot speak or help themselves.” Why is a person being condemned for trying to help? This does not make sense. If he needs help, help him, don’t condemn him. Who rescues these animals at their own cost and who feeds them when the donations run out? Who sees that their injuries are attended to so that they stay alive to live another day in this world, in this worldthathasbecomeaconcretejungle that we made. He does. So my advice is work with him and correct what you believe or know is been done wrong. But work together on this and stop all the allegations and futile arguments. None of these will help the vervets at the end of the day and isn’t that what this is all about? Jenny

Brain-snacking for neophytes DESIREE ERASMUS THERE are many soul-eviscerating things in the world at the moment, gentle reader. Phenomena so evil that they must have Satan himself rubbing his scaled hands in glee: Unjustified wars, astounding levels of corporate greed, rampant corruption, Justin Bieber. One could literally fill an entire column with all of the nastiness afflicting the globe. And if one was paid per word, one probably would. But if one was to cast aside the evil, and measure only things causing severe intellectual lacerations, it would surely be zombiephiles leaving the most scar tissue. For the desperately uninformed, zombiephiles are zombie-lovers or
those with a genuine interest in the undead. They spend their time blogging about outwitting and outlasting the unconsecrated. They bet on and philosophise over the outcome of a fight between a zombie and a werewolf/vampire/ rabid-garden-gnome. They host zombie-themed parties where other 20somethings that God has chosen to smite with the stupid stick can congregate and compare notes. They partake in profound analysis about the “morality”of a zompocalypse: Who would one sacrifice in a group of hiding-out humans to subdue the zombie hordes so that the rest of the gang could make a clean getaway? Would it be the granny, the fat kid or the three legged puppy? Indeed, gentle reader, globally, there has proven to be immense interest in slow moving human beings with glazed eyes, bad teeth and limited brain functioning. Something South Africans who watch Parliament Channel can understand.
So potent is the zombiefication of our millennials that it has spawned an entire sub-culture of all things flesh-eaters. Discovery Channel has run documentaries on the possibility of a zombie apocalypse, scientists study reanimation of the dead, and the internet has daily new brainsnacker sites popping up with the vigour of unwanted pimples. Some readers may remember the tremendous excitement caused a while back when the American Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a piece on its blog site entitled Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse. The post was meant to make readers aware of any particularly threatening scenario using a “whimsical anecdote”, but that escaped most, possibly even the CDC writer, who approached the subject with the kind of creepy gusto one would generally expect from a columnist. The write-up came with a suitably freaky photo of what could be a zombie or simply a severely harassed corporate executive experiencing
her first hot flush. Either way, it fitted in nicely with the references to Resident Evil, which FYI is an art-genre release boasting poignant dialogue and Oscar-worthy acting. The post went on to explain the essentials needed to survive a zompocalypse and included a list of items that Americans would evidently never consider thinking of themselves…the tricky little things one often forgets about when preparing for global destruction such as water, food and medication. The article was well received by geeks and freaks, many of whom thought it a serious piece about a possible post-apocalyptic world where the living dead would become the dominant species. Such was the (over)enthusiasm for the story that the CDC felt it appropriate to issue a press-release notifying salivating zombie-slayers that there was no imminent threat from the undead. Said a spokesperson quoted in the Huffington Post: “CDC does not know
of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would produce zombie-like symptoms)”. This “denial” again sparked outrage, with true believers in the undead demanding that the bastards at the CDC get their story straight and not make light of impending doom by organ eating noenoes. From the above one is able to deduce that Americans take their zombies very seriously. Also, that they are profoundly intellectually disenfranchised. Nevertheless, all of this got me thinking according to the intricate mentality of a zombie slayer and I wondered, given the very real chance that a zompocalypse enters our corner of the world, would the brave citizens of Ethekweni fight or fence the undead? And then I reminded myself that we are South Africans; a feisty bunch of non-sissies who have never batted an eyelid at the prospect of being surrounded by brain-dead Neanderthals; after all, we haven’t quarantined parliament yet, have we?
A millennial’s memories of Madiba
THE first time I became aware of the existence of Nelson Mandela was when he was released from prison on 11 February 1990. My parents were glued to the television, and all I could see on the screen were streets lined with bigger crowds of people than anything I had seen before. When I askedwhatwashappening,Iwastold that Nelson Mandela was being released from prison, and would soon
it ever will – these friends just had slightly funny names and sometimes spoke in a language that I didn’t understand. They liked building sandcastles, playing with Barbies and getting up to mischief – just like me - and I couldn’t understand why people were so afraid just because a black man was about to become our president. In 1995, I watched the tail-end of the World Cup final, and remember the image of Madiba lifting the Webb Ellis trophy. I was too young, once again, to comprehend what a defining moment of national unity that was. I was out of the country and in a highly disparate time zone at the time
of the Soccer World Cup, so I missed Madiba’sfinalpublicappearanceand that sense of national unity which apparently recurred during that time. Perhaps it is through sport and a sharedsenseofprideandexcitement, and not endless political shenanigans, through which South Africa could find peace. When one thinks about Mandela, and the kind of president that he was, it is evident that our current leader is of a completely different ilk. Madiba’s homestead at Qunu does not have an astroturf, vast security measures or state-of-the-art accommodations. While Madiba spent 27 years in prison having committed the “crime” of being a freedom fighter, our current
leader has a whopping 783 allegations of corruption levelled against him and appears to have gotten away with all of them scot-free. A South African prayer, penned by Reverend Trevor Huddleston, reads as follows: God bless Africa Guard her children Guide her leaders and give her peace. My hope is that, in the aftermath of the loss of the greatest South African who will probably ever live, that we will vote in a government who will guard our children – against rape, againstmurder, againstpoverty–and guide our leaders – against corruption, against mismanagement and against greed.

So whether it's last minute Christmas present shopping or just buying groceries for a house full of people, these tips should help make it a more pleasant experience PLAN AHEAD Start making a list a few days in advance of all the items you will need. Make the list comprehensive and don't forget the small things like wrapping paper, tape, cards etc. There is nothing worse than getting through a long day of shopping, only to find that you forgot to buy a present for your mother-inlaw. PLAN YOUR ROUTE Consider which mall will be most likely to have all the items on your list to avoid mall hopping. If that means traveling to a bigger mall outside your area, it may be worth the trip. DETERMINE YOUR SHOPPING TIMES Most malls have extended shopping hours during the festive season. I find first thing in the morning (early bird
catches the worm) or after 6pm to be the best times to shop. If you are shopping for fresh food, the mornings are best as the shelves may be empty by 6pm. USE THE INTERNET AS A TOOL Most big shopping malls have websites with shop lists and shopping hours. Use these to get the information you need to select the right mall for your purchases. INTERNET SHOPPING Internet shopping is not as common in South Africa as in other countries, however there are a few sites that offer online services that can make your shopping far more convenient and stress free. WEAR COMFY SHOES If you are wanting to strut your stuff in stilettos, then accept that your shop-
ping may take a little longer and you will end up with sore feet at the end of the day. If it's worth it, go for it girl. CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT Take along fabric bags for your purchases to avoid having to waste plastic bags. The Woolies fabric bags are fantastic; they are the perfect size and come in funky bright colours. PLAN YOUR BUDGET If you plan well, you will get more for your buck than you may think. Planning ahead for your gifts will allow you more time to shop around and look for the best bargain. If time is your biggest concern, be prepared to spend a little more for the convenience. Don't forget to take a moment to enjoy a great cappuccino and rest your weary feet in between. And remember to spend your money on what makes you and your loved ones feel fabulous!

SPCA appeals for blankets THE Kloof and Highway SPCA is making an appeal to the community to support abandoned and orphaned animals this festive season. As staff gear-up for the bumper season ahead, they are appealing to the community for blankets. According to manager Barbara Patrick, at this time of the year the kennels at the SPCA are always full and with the amount of rain the
province is experiencing, it is very hard to keep up with washing and drying the blankets. “Please help us with donations of blankets. “Fleece blankets are the best as they are easy to wash and dry quickly,” she said. “Any assistance you can offer would be greatly valued and truly appreciated.”

Stretching out his wings >> Old Boy helps pupil hone his dream and passion KALISHA NAICKER k.toolsee@gmail.com
W
ATERFALL College Old Boy Cameron Wood is giving back to his community by assisting a fellow pupil to stretch his wings and fly - literally. Wood matriculated from Waterfall College in 2012 and went on to study for his commercial pilot’s license at Durban Aviation Centre, based at Virginia Airport. In an inspirational address to the school assembly on 29 October, Wood spoke about following his dream and explained how he wanted to extend a helping hand to a fellow pupil who also wanted to learn to fly. Nathi Ngcobo, a Grade 10 pupil, was the lucky recipient of the offer.
As the big day dawned in early November, before the two enthusiastic aeronauts took to the skies, Wood showed Ngcobo around the flight school, the control tower and aircraft. “I was extremely excited to be able to give back to my community in this way,” said Wood. “I showed Ngcobo the procedures carried out on the aircraft before taking flight and we took to the skies at 10am, in a Piper Cherokee 140 with winds in excess of 25 knots but clear skies.” Wood said that he explained the basic aerodynamics and how the effect one control surface can have on the aircraft. “It was great,” said Ngcobo. “It’s probably the best thing I have done in my life. I mean…I can
still relive it to this day. Iamdefinitely sure I want to become a pilot.” Ngcobo is currently completing Grade 10. His subject choice at Waterfall College includes physical sciences and core mathematics. Ngcobo says he is grateful to Wood for giving him this opportunity. Wood explained that “giving back” is important as he knows how it feels to have a dream and passion. He felt he needed to give someone who was interested in flying the opportunity to experience it. “Giving someone this opportunity would ignite their desire to follow their dream, as I have. “It is with passion, patience and perseverance that I am achieving my dream and if I can do it, anyone can.”
Jeanette van der Merwe, principal of Waterfall College, and also Ngcobo’s physical sciences teacher, said: “Ngcobo has a natural ability as well as a genuine interest for both chemistry and physics. He achieved a distinction for both this year.” “I am so pleased that he has gotten the opportunity to stretch his wings. I would also like to thank Wood for giving back to the school in this way,” she added.

Equerry Hay Barn-At the Mushroom Farm
A Border Collie at Dressage.
Catherine Berning riding Livius.
Y
OU will find the Equerry Hay Barn at the picturesque, newly developed country complex, aptly called "The Mushroom Farm" at the corner of Kassier Road and the M13. I remember the excitement of riding from Overport, where my pony was stabled for a while when I was a child, right along the side of the Durban/Johannesburg highway, to Shongweni Club: memories of mist and mystique, dripping Acacia leaves above, and glistening, dark pieces of brushwood below, and the soft, soft going as my pony's hooves struck turfwhenwegottotheAssagay/Shongweniarea. This place held a special charm, and was alwayscaptivatinginthememoryofitscountry beauty. If this editorial is to tell you something about the history of Equerry, then it would be apt to first talk about mushrooms. During the second world war, when my father was on active service, my mother started growing mushrooms in Johannesburg. She became an honorary member of the British Mushroom Growers Association, andwasresponsibleforbringingthe technology of mushroom cultivation to South Africa. At this time, Claude Webster started a parallel venture in Hillcrest. Denny Mushrooms, (who now have the large plant on the way to Summerveld) bought out my parents venture which was established in Johannesburg in the early years, and the Webster family's mushroom growing plant was later established on the property known as "The Mushroom Farm", which has now developed into a charming country retail complex. It has been fulfilling to ride the full circle back to The Mushroom Farm, and it is my passion for horses that brought to this destination. When I was a child, my dad supplied the racing industry in Alberton, as well as several Sandtonridingschools,withwheatenstrawforbed-

ding, as horse manure formed the basis of the substrate for mushroom cultivation; and when I was a teenager, I bought my first loads of lucern, which crawled from the North West in a pre-war five tonner. I knew all the Bob Graystons, George Iwanoskis, David Stubbs', Lesley Taylors and veterans of the riding scene and show arenas in the Johannesburg of those days. Therefore, from the mushroom business and my participation in horse shows, I easily found a market for my wares. Another generation was born, and as I had a daughter at Rhodes University, (who obviously had a horse with her!!) I became involved with horse owners in the Eastern Cape. This area suffered a terrible drought one year, and I remember standing at the railway siding in Bloemfontein, loading some good South African railway coaches with lucern for dispatch to the drought stricken area. We lived in Bloemfontein for many years, where I wrote a BCom degree (in Afrikaans, mindyou).Latermyhusband,HaroldandIhad a right royal time travelling our country, photographing horses, and meeting crop farmers with whom I could converse in Afrikaans. Our photographic business led us to meet andbefriendhorseownersalloverthecountry,
A contestant at Dressage. so extending my bulk distribution of fodder via superlinks of teff and lucern delivering to Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. Harold and I are completing the full circle by coming to live in our favourite province, KwaZulu Natal, where we met 51 years ago. Five years ago, at my dear husband's suggestion, we hired a mushroom shed from Dave Aitken, the owner of "The Mushroom Farm", to use as a storage facility for our bulk distribution. The Equerry Hay Barn retail facility was thus born. There is ample parking, a saddlery shop next door, a coffee shoppe across the parking ground, and other shops in the complex that sell all sorts of delights. We handle horse feed, dog food, and our exciting new addition will be catering for the bird and pigeon enthusiasts from early in 2014. This has all been possible due to the network of fodder crop farmers we have met over many years, the development of "The Mushroom Farm" as a delightful, country shopping complex, and the faithful support of our wonderful customers here over the past five years. In addition there will be 15 percent off all purchases until 20 December and free gifts for children while stocks last.

Oeffortwassparedwhenthe790guests dressed up for the 30th Celebration of the Rotary Club of Kloof’s Durban Pops on Saturday, 16 November. The annual fund raising event, sponsored by Adapt IT, was held at the iconic Durban City Hall and, with the Great Gatsby theme, feathers, pearls, hats and fascinators were the order of the evening. Guests were greeted by six gorgeous models from Extreme Model Management and shown either to their table of ten or to the upstairs circle seating. The KZN Philharmonic, which also turned 30 this year, performed under the conductorship of the always entertaining, Richard Cock. Soloists included violinists Nina Kolev and Elena Kerimova and singers Lauren Laing, Shylo Pereira and Wayne Mkhize. The musical line up for the evening varied
from classical to contemporary – from Verdi to Adele, Gershwin to Sting – and the audience did not hold back on the standing ovations. Twenty six year old Tenor, Wayne Mkhize, stole the show with his powerful and emotive voice. The breath-taking flower arrangements on the stage and the themed table décor were organised by the Rotary Anns of Kloof, who never disappoint. These arrangements have become symbolic with the fundraising event and the first thing guests notice as they walk through the entrance into the City Hall. The delicious Seafood Cocktail starter and Lamb Shank main course was followed by Chocolate Eclairs, Lime Tarts and Eat Greek Caterers’ signature Baklava dessert. Wine was supplied by Blaauwklippen and Vrede and Lust and the water was sponsored by Aquella. The evening ended off with fabulous prizes being given to five lucky guests, including a weekend away at Makaranga Lodge and a mini IPad from Adapt IT. The Rotary Club of Kloofexpectstoraise R65 000 from the event and proceeds will be donated to various Rotary Charities with the main beneficiary being S.M.I.L.E. (St Mary’s Interactive Learning Experience). S.M.I.L.E., established in 1991, is a community-based organisation that evolved as a result of an urgent need in education to develop the English language skills of isiZulu speaking learners and their teachers. The Rotary Club of Kloof would like to Adapt IT for sponsoring the event for six years in a row, Setzkorn Health and Wealth for being a sub-sponsor, Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) for their contribution, TWBAHuntLascaris for all the design work, Fastprint for the printing and Vector Logistics for their assistance.
