Face-to-face communication is critical in modern B2B sales process During the past two years due to the covid pandemic virtual communication has been a vital new addition to the daily running of many businesses across the globe. Even though this has been generally a successful way to connect with other businesses and with new and prospective customers, in-person meetings will now have a significant influence in 2022 and beyond. Throughout the covid pandemic the B2B sales process became increasingly digital due to the restrictions in place. However face-to-face meetings still provide certain benefits that technology cannot replace. After two years of only being able to converse digitally, face-to-face business at long last is making its return as a key element of the sales process. Research has shown that in-person meetings are 34 times more successful than those made via email. The close rate for in-person meetings is 57%, and executives and business travellers estimate that 28% of their current business would be lost without in-person meetings. The pandemic may have shaken things up by bringing digital interaction to the fore, but face-to-face meetings retain a strong appeal. The human brain is wired for connection and appreciation. To build relationships and close deals, it is essential to understand what makes each person tick. Businesses need to take into account that face-to-face sales are often the first time a customer gets acquainted with your brand, products, and services. A recent report from Stellar Global discovered that 85% of customers would be encouraged to buy a product after a product

demonstration, while 73% want a product demonstration to give them an understanding of how that product works. These findings highlight the importance of taking the time to demonstrate your product, educate prospective customers about its advantages and answer any questions they have. A product demonstration given to your customer provides them the opportunity to learn how it will benefit them the most. Using face-to-face meetings to show how your product helps them solve their problems, wants and desires is crucial in the sales environment. In some cases, technology can improve communication efficiency during the sales process. In other cases, technology exacerbates the problem of poor sales communication. Any sale can, for example, be ruined by a dropped call or poor internet connection. Face-to-face selling overcomes these technical challenges, allowing salespeople to build real relationships with prospects. Another benefit for face-toface sales is the ability to better measure prospects’ reactions by using body language cues. All in all, success in B2B sales means using all the methods available to you and using them well. Technology should, of course, be used when it is sensible to do so, but the value of face-to-face interaction can never be understated. At a time when societies and the world are opening up again, embracing in-person meetings is sure to yield success. Trade shows are a valuable resource to promote your company to a wider target audience where you benefit from meeting prospective customers face-to-face at one venue, saving you time and money. Trophex UK is a major well established trade event

for the Trophy, Engraving, Awards, Medals and Personalisation industry. The aim of the next show in 2023 is to re-connect the industry, creating a space where you can network, build new business relationships, and catch up with current customers and suppliers personally. During the six months preceding Trophex UK a targeted marketing campaign will be put into place to promote the return of the show. The dates for Trophex UK are Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd January 2023. The show is predicted to be very busy after a three year hiatus due to the covid pandemic. Trophex UK will be hosted at a new exciting venue, The National Conference Centre and Motorcycle Museum. The move to the new venue has ensured Trophex UK can offer a competitive revised rate to exhibit, making your first major face-to-face event even more affordable. Also the visitor benefits from free access to the show with free parking just outside the entrance, and the opportunity to make their visit a fun day out by mixing business with pleasure with a visit to The Motorcycle Museum just next door to the show. If you are interested in exhibiting at Trophex UK or would like to advertise in the shows sister magazine, TEN, please get in touch. We will be happy to discuss your requirements and how we can help support your business through 2022. ADELCO

Global leaders in printing & drying machines Adelco, announces 50 years of trading Adelco are world leading manufacturers in digital textile and screen-printing equipment and drying solutions. They are excited to announce their 50th anniversary. They registered as a limited company fifty years ago this summer. This is not just a corporate anniversary; it is an anniversary of a family that grew strong defying the odds. Over the last half-century, Adelco has survived recessions, wars, pandemics, and technology transformations that could have been fatal to some companies, but Adelco have managed to thrive and grow. The next fifty will likely be even more challenging, this milestone can be used to put a stake in the ground for what Adelco is prepared for, and what comes next.

A brief history: Starting from humble beginnings Adelco have grown from a small UK based manufacturer to a global brand with partners in more than 36 countries, with a large manufacturing facility based in Asia, and a work force of over 150 staff. Alan Smith, along with two other partners, Des and Laurie founded the company in 1972, based in Farnham, Surrey. Using their initials, they named the company Adelco. The company has developed over the years, initially manufacturing screens, art and design for electronic components, circuit boards and cosmetic toiletry containers. By the late 70’s they had moved to a larger premises, and were producing screens for electronic, cosmetic and textile applications. In 1979 Adelco started manufacturing screen printing and drying systems and importing

textile machines into the UK and then Europe. This was the turning point for Adelco, to become established in the Textile industry. Adelco moved to Bordon, Hampshire in 1990, located in three industrial units producing textile printing machinery. With Alan’s two sons Leigh and Mark onboard with experience in engineering and sales, the company grow steadily. In 2006 Adelco moved their manufacturing plant to China, and with their inhouse original designs and inspired engineering in both drying and printing solutions, they expanded their production by threefold. In 2020 Adelco rebranded the company, reflecting the company’s evolution into a global manufacturing business. Leigh Smith, CEO of Adelco, commented “Over the last 50 years Adelco have grown to be a well-known and respected brand. Our decision to launch our new logo and brand identity better reflects our market leading position and our technically advanced offerings to the market”.

The Future: With three new dryer innovations launching at FESPA, Berlin this year! Adelco continues to push the boundaries of technology and engineering. They will continue to deliver relevant and groundbreaking screen printing and drying technology with the customer at the heart of all their machines from design to installation. MANTIS WORLD

What’s new for Mantis World in 2022? Mantis World are thrilled to announce the launch of their new styles for 2022. With an increased demand for matching styles across all ages, the Essentials collection was created to provide customers with a one stop shop for responsibly made and perfectly matched organic staples for the whole gang. To fight the shortage and increasing prices of organic cotton, Mantis World have started introducing in-conversion cotton to their range. This is cotton which has been grown without any artificial fertilisers or harmful chemicals, by farmers who are fully honouring organic practices. It can take up to three years to become fully certified, but by paying farmers fairly for the cotton they grow whilst transitioning, there is a greater incentive to start the journey to organic. All of the new styles will feature Mantis World’s Impact Calculator QR codes on their care labels, allowing the wearer to measure the impact of choosing an organic or in-conversion garment over conventional, and showing the supply chain from field to warehouse. Hoodies are a vital part of any wardrobe, and the M04 Essential Hoodie from Mantis is a great choice for those looking for a well-made unisex garment. Made from organic or in-conversion to organic cotton, blended with recycled polyester, this 280gsm brushed fleece hoodie truly combines style, comfort and more sustainable materials. Completed with retail-ready finishes, included metal tipping on the drawcords and a deep kangaroo pocket. Available from sizes XS to 3XL and in a range of classic and fashion colours, there’s bound to be something for everyone. The MK04 Kids Essential Hoodie from Mantis Kids was made to match, with the same composition and available for kids aged between 2 and 12+. And Babybugz have launched their BZ63 Baby Essential Hoodie, so the whole family can get in on the fun. You’ll also find matching Essential Sweatshirts (M05, MK05 and BZ64), each made with the same blend of organic or in-conversion to organic cotton and recycled polyester. At 280gsm, these brushed fleece sweats are perfect for decoration and great for cosying up in. Mantis Kids have a new Essential T for kids (MK01), made to match with the M01 and M02 Essential Organic T’s for adults launched back in 2020. The new Heavyweight T for adults (M03) from Mantis is available in 5 colours and 7 sizes. Made from 100% organic or in-conversion to organic cotton, this unisex style comes in at a heavier 220gsm and has a modern, oversized fit with longer sleeves than styles already in the range. The heavier fabric is great for carrying all types of decoration, and is especially a great choice for embroiders. There has been increased interest over the last couple years in Mantis World’s Made in Africa collection. This year, Babybugz have launched

new styles that have been made in their Tanzanian factory. The BZ60 Long Sleeve Kimono Bodysuit is based off the best-selling BZ05-TLC, refreshed for 2022 with long sleeves and made from 100% organic African cotton. There is also the new Made in Africa Baby T (BZ61), joining the family of Made in Africa Ts for adults (M104-TLC) and kids (MK15). Finally, accessories are always an important addition to the Babybugz range. The new BZ62 Baby Hat is made from 100% organic or in-conversion to organic cotton, and is a great add on to other styles across the collection with a range of matching colours to pair up with tees, bodysuits and rompasuits. Last year, Mantis World were the recipients of the Ryan Young Climate+ Award. Given to them by Textile Exchange in the category of Climate Leaders, the award is in recognition of their commitment to cutting their own carbon emissions and creating scalable solutions in the fight against climate change. The Climate+ strategy was put in place with an aim of reducing emissions from the textile industry by 45% by 2030. Going into 2022, Mantis World are committed to continuing to measure their impact and create meaningful change in the textile industry and beyond. www.mantisworld.com

HYBRID SERVICES

Silver Anniversary for Sign & Design’s Mimaki Cutting Plotter The Mimaki cutting plotter that’s in regular use at Sign & Design (Somerset) Ltd still looks as good as the day the company bought it, according to owner, Paul Dinsdale. Considering that date was in the late 1990s and the cutter is used almost daily, that’s some claim!

“We’ve looked after it of course, but it’s still running and cutting perfectly,” he says. “We’ve gone through a few blades and pinch rollers in that time, but it starts up happily, we press the buttons and it does its stuff!” Starting out in the early 1980s, Dinsdale begun his apprenticeship in hand painted signwriting. In 1983, he set up his own sign business and soon won the contract to provide traditional painted signage for a large brewery. As the business grew and took on staff, computers opened up the potential for plotting vinyl lettering and they bought their first cutter. In the mid-1990s, the business moved to larger premises, and employing more staff, invested in the Mimaki CG-101, a 1m wide cutting plotter.

“As a trained hand painter, I’ve been able to use this skill along with output from the cutter to deliver a diverse range of products to our customers,” Dinsdale states. “We even use it to combine the two techniques, cutting masks that are then used for hand painting signs.” Other popular products that utilise the 25 year old cutter’s capabilities are school honours boards, where detail is critical, and vinyl garment lettering that’s then heat pressed onto sportswear. Signage within the education sector is also an important area for the business, and applying vinyl to powder coated aluminium sign systems delivers a premium and long-lasting result. “The use that Paul’s business has had from the Mimaki cutter over the last quarter of a century is testament not only to the build quality of the machine, but also how well it’s been looked after,” comments Duncan Jefferies, head of marketing and business development at Mimaki’s distributor for the UK and Ireland, Hybrid Services. “We were absolutely delighted to hear that their investment is still providing such great service, so far down the line.” “The Mimaki has been a fantastic machine,” Dinsdale concludes. “Sign & Design prides itself on bringing together the traditional art of signwriting and the benefits of technology, and this has allowed us to consistently deliver bespoke and high quality, yet cost effective solutions for our clients.”

The iSmart Oven for versatile sublimation The iSmart Oven enables production of items such as our new Pet Bowls, Enamel Tins, and other items that have previously been a challenge to produce with standard mug or flat bed heat presses. The preparation process is easy – apply your sublimation print to the produce, pick the appropriate sized film and gently heat using the

supplied heat gun to shrink around the product. This helps keep the paper in full contact with the surface of the product, eliminating the need for a traditional clamp. Place your product(s) in the iSmart Oven, set the desired time and temperature, and in a few minutes your product is ready. Remove and allow to cool before peeling away the film, and you’re done! The 40 litre capacity allows for two bowls to be cooked at once (or alternatively, 6 mugs using mug wraps), whilst still being compact and lightweight – and is set to become an integral part of a versatile sublimation set-up. Watch our short video below and see the oven in action. New shrink film sizes and wraps coming soon! To discuss the possibilities of the iSmart Oven or any of our range of equipment, please get in touch – and remember we can also demonstrate via Zoom! Choosing a Sustainable Award, from Materials to Manufacturing More and more events and organisations are taking sustainability seriously. But that means it can sometimes be difficult to find products and partners who can live up to your high standards.

We’ll even take a look at manufacturing methods and packaging, to see how you can reduce your carbon footprint further.

Recycled awards One of the best ways to keep your trophy design eco-friendly is to use recycled materials. In the past, it could be difficult to source the right recycled materials, but today there’s a much larger range to choose from.

What recycled materials are used to make trophies? Two of the most popular materials for recycled trophies are aluminium and acrylic. That’s right, a plastic trophy doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not caring about the environment! These are probably the most well-used trophy materials to start with, so switching to a recycled alternative can make a huge difference. So many responsible award manufacturers are now choosing recycled aluminium and acrylic awards, while still maintaining the same high quality of product. But there are even more innovative ways you can include recycled materials in your awards. For example, at EFX we’ve designed trophies that incorporate additional recycled features, such as circuit boards. Not only do these mean there’s less waste going to landfill – they look fantastic too!

Sustainably sourced awards You may well be asking “what’s the difference between recycled and sustainable?” but actually there’s quite a big difference between the two. Recycled products are created from material that’s been used once before and repurposed. But sustainable materials are those that can be used without negatively impacting the environment to start with.

What sustainable materials can trophies be made from? Our favourite sustainable award materials are stone, wood and bamboo. Because stone is naturally occurring and easy to extract without negative environmental consequences, it’s a great choice for the eco-conscious. So when it comes to awards, you need to know that your trophies, medals and plaques are as environmentally friendly as you are. Especially if you’re holding an eco awards ceremony, or if sustainability is a big part of your event or organisation’s culture and commitment.

Wood takes sustainability to the next level because it’s also renewable. Many manufacturers will choose sustainably sourced

So how do you go about finding a sustainable trophy? In this guide we’ll go through some of the best options for eco-friendly awards, from recycled products to sustainable materials. CONTINUED ON PAGE 22

wood suppliers, meaning that more trees are planted to replace the ones being used.

water into the sewer system (or worse, directly into the water system!) can have a big impact.

Another great renewable trophy material is bamboo. Which, while it looks a lot like wood, is technically a grass – and one of the most eco-friendly materials there is.

But this can be minimised right on site with a wastewater treatment facility that cleans up the water before it leaves the factory grounds.

Bamboo grows quickly, doesn’t need lots of water, thrives in all kinds of environments and doesn’t need to be protected with pesticides.

Sustainable packaging

As green materials go, it’s definitely one of the best!

The final consideration when choosing an eco trophy or award, is how it gets delivered to you. It would be pretty disheartening to invest in a beautiful, sustainably sourced trophy only to have it delivered in a box full of polystyrene packing chips. But there are ways to pack and protect your award without the environmental impact. For example, using recycled bubble wrap or biodegradable loose fill.

Reusable awards – perpetual trophies If you really do want to reduce your impact on the environment, another option to consider is having a perpetual award. This is one of the most eco-friendly trophy options, as you only ever produce one! That award is then passed along to new winners, often with a small plaque or engraving to show the names and dates of all winners. Many people who go for a perpetual trophy also provide smaller tokens that winners can keep permanently, such as a medal. And of course, we recommend choosing a sustainable medal, such as bamboo.

Responsible trophy manufacturing It’s important to remember that creating a sustainable award isn’t entirely about what you use – it’s also about how you make it.

Today you can even get paper packaging tape as an alternative to plastic. That means that your entire delivery’s packaging can go straight into the recycling – not into landfill.

Designing a sustainable trophy So, if you’d like to create an eco-friendly medal, trophy or award, there’s much more to consider than just the material you use. Make sure you find a partner that takes sustainability as seriously as you do. Someone who can offer a range of recycled and renewable materials. Someone who considers energy efficiency and pollution reduction in their process. Our impact on the world around us matters, so it’s important to choose a trophy designer and manufacturer whose values and ethos reflects your own.

When you think of manufacturing processes, it’s hard to avoid imagery of factories, smog and dust. But with so many technological advances, it’s becoming easier and easier to choose more efficient, sustainable trophy manufacturing processes.

Energy efficient production Of course one of the biggest challenges in manufacturing is powering the factory without wasting energy. One of the simplest ways to become more energy efficient is to make use of renewable energy. For example, our Ettington Park manufacturing plant uses solar panels to power our factory.

Water pollution Another big environmental problem in trophy manufacturing is waste water. Water is used in many of our processes, and releasing that

GRAPHTEC GB

Graphtec GB ‘makes the cut’ with WID Laser Engraving Machines As the recently appointed exclusive UK and Ireland distributor of WID laser engraving/ cutting machines, Graphtec GB is now offering the latest C Series in a choice of four differentsized models (the 500, 700, 900 and 1000). These have been developed to accommodate the total requirements of engraving specialist companies. All of the machines are robustly constructed and of a compact design to facilitate installation in small work shops where space is invariably at a premium. The C Series provides respective processing areas of 700 x 500, 1000 x 700, 1300 x 900 and 1300 x 900mm, with variable cutting speeds of up to 90,000 mm/min on the 500 model and 72,000mm/ min on the 700, 900 and 1000 models. The machines incorporate CO2 tube and on selective models RF (Radio Frequency) lasers, sourced through partnerships forged with leading specialist laser manufacturers, with power ratings ranging from 60W on the 500 and 700 models and incrementally up to 120W on the 900 and 1000 models. All of the machines are supplied with dedicated user-friendly multi-tool software compatible with AI, DST, PLT, BMP and DXF graphic file formats and provide USB and Network connectivity.

Related Graphtec GB developments Complementing the C Series of laser engraving/cutting systems and through its status as a preferred business partner with leading global software developer SA International, Graphtec GB is also supplying the ENROUTE Version 6 routing, engraving, cutting and milling software. This is available in a choice of four different modules and incorporates 40 new design and production tools that will accommodate virtually any 2D and 3D processing requirement of CNC routing/engraving and laser, plasma and waterjet cutting machines. Since 1961, Graphtec GB has been the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for advanced digital cutting systems manufactured by the Graphtec Corporation in Japan. Outside of Japan, Graphtec GB is recognised as the most successful of Graphtec Corporation’s network of international business partners. Through this partnership, the company provides a wide choice of digital cutting solutions, ranging from high-end and higher-volume industrial-grade to

Key design features include a 150mm adjustable machine height facility, automatic temperature and air control systems and smoke/ dust extraction and waste retrieval units. These are supplemented with an optional autofocus-empowered CCD camera that ensures precise material/object recognition, adjustment and alignment to accommodate even the most complex applications likely to be encountered. Collectively, these contribute to much higher productivity levels and processing speeds said to be five times faster than any other similarly positioned engraving/cutting machine currently available. Developed to complement the varying skill levels of both entry-level and seasoned professional operatives and for use in applications not suited to conventional CNC routing/cutting/engraving systems, the WID C Series of machines will laser cut and/or engrave a wide range of disparate materials. These include, for example, acrylic and various plastics, hard surfaces such as marble, glass and slate, solid woods and laminates, stainless steel and other non-ferrous metals and various alloys like brass and copper.

machines for small- to medium-sized companies, craft enthusiasts and home hobbyists. Typical of cutting solutions for this latter sector of the digital cutting market is the latest small-format and desktopmountable Cameo Pro 4 machine. Part of the Silhouette family of digital cutters, it is packed with performanceenhancing design features normally found on much larger and commensurately more expensive machines. Of special significance is that, in common with all Graphtec digital cutters , the Cameo Pro 4 incorporates Graphtec’s proprietary ARMS (Advanced Registration Mark) sensing system for optimum material plotting and cutting accuracy. Other key features include a wider (610mm/24-inch) cutting width, an increased cutting force of 5G to enable processing of a much wider range of harder and thicker materials that other similarly positioned machines might find too demanding and a higher cutting speed said to be three times faster than other Cameo machines in the Silhouette range. For further information, visit https//graphtecgb.co.uk/laser-cuttingengraving-systems/ or telephone 01978 666700.

NOT EVERY LASER MAKES THE CUT Unbeatable quality and performance

Available in a choice of four different-sized models, WID Laser engraving/cutting machines set a new benchmark for quality and reliable performance at a truly affordable price. They come packed with performance-enhancing features normally found on more expensive machines, including an autofocus CCD camera for optimum material alignment and cutting accuracy.

Easy to use Designed for both entry-level and seasoned professionals, dedicated multi-tool software enables even the most complex applications to be completed at speeds of up to 90,000 mm/min and with outstanding precision on finely detailed work. Multiple applications WID Laser machines will handle virtually any material, including stainless steel and other non-ferrous metals, alloys such as brass, bronze and copper, acrylic, plastics and laminates, marble, glass, slate and solid woods. Save time, save money Eliminate the need for expensive secondary tooling with one all-embracing powerful production tool at a fraction of the cost.
