The Art of Music

Dubstep: How it began Dubstep, like most things electronic music, began life in Western Europe, specifically London, England, in the late 90’s. The sound of dubstep originally came out of productions by El-B, Steve Gurley, Oris Jay, and Zed Bias in 1999–2000. Ammunition Promotions, who run the influential club “Forward>>” and have managed many proto dubstep record labels (including Tempa, Soulja, Road, Vehicle, Shelflife, Texture, Lifestyle and Bingo), began to use the term “dubstep” to describe this style of music in around 2002. Originally, the genre was more experimental and very much so based around a handful of remixes and drum-and-bass heavy odds and ends. Thanks to a few BBC Radio One DJ’s the genre became more accepted and started to grow. By 2003Skream & Benga 2004, dubstep was officially a thing. Dubstep started to spread beyond small local scenes in late 2005 and early 2006; many websites devoted to the genre appeared on the internet and aided the growth of the scene, such as dubstepforum, the download site Barefiles and blogs such as gutterbreakz. The original “Forward>>” line ups included Hatcha, Youngsta, Kode9, Zed Bias, Oris Jay, Slaughter Mob, Jay Da Flex, Slimzee and others, plus regular guests. The line up of residents has changed over the years to include Youngsta, Hatcha, Geeneus and Plastician, with Crazy D as MC/host. Producers including D1, Skream and Benga make regular appearances.

Dubstep: What it’s like now The influence of dubstep on more commercial or popular genres can be identified as far back as 2007, with artists such as Britney Spears using dubstep sounds. The term brostep has been used by some as a pejorative descriptor for a style of popular Americanised dubstep. Such artists are Canadian producers Datsik and Excision, and other producers such as 12th Planet and Bassnectar are considered to be early pioneers of the subgenre. Their production style has been described by Mixmag as “a viciously harsh, yet brilliantly produced sound that appealed more to Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails fans than it did to lovers of UK garage.” Nonetheless, dubstep is a growing, popular style of music around the world.

Historical Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop as a music arose in the late 1970's, spread throughout the (at the time) almost exclusively black culture it came out of through block parties in New York, specifically the Bronx. It developed as a party music, created by DJ's who extended the common percussion/instrumental "breaks" in many funk/ soul/reggae/dub songs to longer lengths, allowing those more dance-able excerpts to dominate the shindig. DJ Kool Herc is widely regarded as the "godfather" of hip-hop, and pioneered many of these techniques. Gradually, DJ's began "toasting" over the extended instrumentals, adding the "rap" the hip-hop culture. This is widely regarded as being the last important or interesting thing to happen in the Bronx.

“Everyone's the same. All brains are contained by their reality frame and chained to the terrain that they're trained not to change and once you see what I've explained you've hit the jackpot Eyedea

In my opinion hip-hop is the soul of music, its been in are life’s since the 20th century, to Little Richard to Heirogylphics. The messages that get acrossed from hip-hop is the soul in are streets, the echo of are beats, the messages that they speak brings knowledge and peace.

History of Rap

Rap started in the 1970’s in the South Bronx with a group of kids with unknown talents making combinations of rhymes and Ft beats off the top of there heads. The music was primarily dedi- s cated to the community of African Americans. Some of these kids F names were like Biggie, Tupac, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Easy-E. tW They through these beats together to express life lessons and the w way they felt about life or other things they wanted. The whole i r purpose was freedom and to give people what they think the l truth is and what’s real.

It ain’t Eazy... From the housing projects rap seeped onto the streets and subways, taking hold in the Bronx clubs like the Savoy Manor Ballroom, Ecstasy Garage, Club 371, The Disco Fever, and the T-Connection. From there it spread to the Renaissance Ballroom, Hotel Diplomat, the Roxy, and The Fun House. than to Los Angeles, where a whole West Coast rap/hip-hop scene developed, each rapper with his own wild style. These ryhmes and beats with each individual rapper being most likely poor and from the gutter of the streets of compton rose to the top with what they love doing, writing poetry and life lessons. People seem to get the idea that they are bad people and try not to listen to there music becsuse of bad influences but not once does a rapper from the beginning era say, “you should do what I do” but the truth of the matter is they’re just trying to make a living where they come from and unless you’ve lived it and expieranced it you shouldnt judge.... “only God can judge me” - tupac

Punk-Rock

Punk-Rock is a music genere that developed between 1974 and 1976. Punk-Rock was mostly started when a band named “The Sex Pistols” formed. Punk-Rock made music that was fast, hardedged , and usually not the best recording. Punk-Rock was also a way of expressing youthful rebelion. Some of the early PunkRock bands were “The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Clash, and the Dead Kennedys. Punk-Rock also created the lifestyle of Punk. Punk-Rock later split into diferent kinds of music, like Crust-punk, Anarcho-punk, and Pop-punk. Crust-punk is bands like The Casualties, Flith, Crass, and Discharge. Crustpunk has a more dirty sound to it. Anarcho- punk is a music genre that promotes Anarchy. Bands like The Exploited, Flux of Pink Indians, and Conflict all went with Anarcho-punk. Poppunk is a mix of punk and pop. Bands like Greenday and Bad Religion.

PUNK The life style that Punk-Rock created, punk, allowed humans to express their way of being, and let fellow punks be them selves. Most punks are rebellious and do not agree with society. They may seem like a bunch of crazy nut-heads, but that is there way of thinking and they know a lot about the way the world is set up. See, if Punks dident know the way the world was set up how would they know what their rebelling against.
