The world will celebrate Tchaikovsky in the coming days and the XIV Moscow Easter Festival is proud to participate. For this unique event that will take place at the Moscow Philharmonic's Tchaikovsky Concert Hall on May 7th(Tchaikovsky's birthday), the Mariinsky Orchestra accompanied by the world-acclaimed pianist Denis Matsuev will perform Tchaikovsky's three piano concerti in a row, under the baton of the orchestra's eminent musical director Valery Gergiev. Following their performance at the opening concert of the Moscow Easter Festival that traditionally begins on Easter Sunday according to the Julian calendar, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra have been travelling across 27 different Russian cities, including St. Petersburg, Moscow, Ekaterinburg and Samara. As part of Tchaikovsky's 175th birthday celebrations, Maestro Valery Gergiev will now take the Mariinsky Orchestra to Moscow. An all Tchaikovsky programme will be performed by the musicians, who will be joined by worldclass pianist Denis Matsuev, who is also a past prizewinner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition (he won the First Prize of the 11 th Competition in 1998 at the age of 23). Known for his extraordinary talent and endurance, Denis Matsuev will perform Tchaikovsky's three piano concerti in a row. Tchaikovsky's three piano concerti were written between 1874 and 1893. The performance of the composer's piano concerti No. 2 and 3, which are unfortunately too seldom heard in concert, will be followed by one of the most popular pieces in the classical music repertoire, the rendition of Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto.
