PROJECT
The brief of the competition was to discover, document and analyse Architecture of the Semi Sacred Spaces. A semi-sacred locale is a place embodying the laws and principles of benevolence and the activities of culture in relation to their own regional area. The liminal sacredness of spaces is taken into consideration in an attempt to define a limited framework of inference. The foundation of a sacred and semi sacred structures lie on the faith and the beliefs of the people.

The form of this ornated structure is like that of the Taj Mahal, as there is a single zarih, or decorative tomb, above and the graves of Zulfiqar and his wife are in the vault beneath.
CHARACTERISTICS Minarets are constructed with chamfered bricks, Metal strips are used for extra strevngth.
Fresco painting was executed upon freshly laid lime plaster, at walls and domes existed. Nanak Shahi bricks have been used in construction of various domes and mausoleum. Jalis have been inspired from Mughal Architecture and helps in proper air flow.
Ornamented and Carved Niches have been used to increase the essence of the facade.

Nawab Sikander Ali Khan’s tomb stands at the main entrance to the complex. Its interior walls display some of the preserved and most decorative paint and plaster work in the complex, having double dome, minarets and this is the only mausoleum having staircase and the porch entrance from three sides. While the fourth side is having a room with a tomb inside.

The story of Malerkotla shows us how a simple act of compassion can span generations of peace, and how we can bring harmony to our country. These powerful spirits related to tombs of heroes, kings, saints and sacred trees are foci of rituals meaningful for social cohesion.

Malerkotla is one of the oldest princely stated in the region. Shahi Maqbara in Malerkotla contains all types of graves - of rulers and their family, which represent the depth and breadth of the state’s history and culture. /\/\//\/ /\/\//\/ /\/\//\/
It consists of an important tomb of Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan, who appealed to Aurangzeb to spare the lives of Guru Gobind Singh’s two young sons when they were captured at Sirhind, this Humanitarian approach blessed the whole Malerkotla.
