Collect data and information on any chosen subject. You will use your classmates/peers to collect the variables of a specified subject. The subject can be anything that can be measured statistically. You will then visually represent the research into three visual solutions. The first that is purely a Typographic solution, the second that is an Image based solution and third where you do not use the computer in any shape or form.

the skinny

We live in a world of information. More and more we depend on the visual trnalation of data into information as an important part of our everyday life. The term “data” in itself does not constitute communication, but is more accurately defined as raw statistics. Designers play an integral part in visualizing information and making it accessible to the reader/viewer. Providing informative “form” to raw data in a manner that allows accessibility and viewer intersst, makes the process of communication have more meaning and understanding. Designers can respond to the display of statistical information by relying on conventionally expected “forms” to display information. By designers can also respond in a manner that invites engagement for the viewer through a form that reflects a “relatedness” to the “content” of the information, as well as new innovative way to visualize this content.

introduction

Project Brief: State general project information, goals and relevant background information for project as a whole. This paragraph should be a statement overview of project as a whole. Including your concept statement, research and brand evaluation. This will be turned in so should look professional. Could be included in process book. Challenge Two: In this assignment you will explore different methods and strategies for representing data. Specifically Numbers and statistics. You will use your classmates/peers to collect the variables of a specified subject. The subject can be anything taht can be measured statistically. Parameters: Each poster should be 13”x19” either landscape or portrait. Outside of that the parameters are open. What is the best way to visually represent your collected data as a printed poster? How can type be used as image? How can image speak more directly to your viewer? Continue to examine alternative ways to communicate. Image Based Solution: mostly imagery, graphics, shapes, color, some text Typographic based Solution: mostly text, rules, dots, lines, color, some basic shapes No Computer based Solution: wide open here. Hand drawn, cut and paste, sculpt, be very creative. This is meant to puse your creativity. Final Deliverable: Three posters each 13” x 19” either landscape or portrait. Print on epson mounted to black core matboard. You will also be turning in a complete process book. Process Book: Create a process book that shows your grid, type styles header, sub head, text, call outs, leading...make the pages dynamic while being consistent. This should be designed to be printed out and rpesented in an interview or for a scholarship. This is different than your research and project brief which should be printed out. Your process book can inclue pieces and studies from Project brief research.

project description

For this topic I wanted to survey my peers about music and how students obtain music in today’s age of technology.

Surveys Music

For this topic I wanted to ask students how they procrastinate on projects and how much time they spend off topic. This sureey consisted of the main websites students visit to procrasinate as well as why they procrastinate.

Surveys Procrastination

For this survery I wanted to explore student’s interests in holidays. I wanted to go in depth on what their favorite holidays are, how they celebrate, why they enjoy holidays, and other questions about the festivities.

Sketches

To start this project I was very excited for the sketching. Most of my ideas based around my drawing ability and my little character icons. At this stage the majorty of my time was devoted to the image based poster because I could have the most fun with that; little did I know that these ideas in my head were not easy to transfer into the project phase.

For this first set of posters I strugged on putting all the information into a poster. I tried to cram as much as I could into each poster and in the end they just looked terrible. My main approach was to use my drawings as a starting point and filling the information around the doodles.
