關於我們 About Us

扎根香港的國際藝壇盛事香港藝術節於 1973 年正式揭幕，是國際藝壇中重要的文化

香港藝術節積極與本地演藝人才合作，並致力為新進藝術

盛事，於每年 2 、 3 月期間呈獻眾多優秀本地及國際藝術家

家提供展示才華的平台。藝術節至今委約及製作逾 200 套

的演出，以及舉辦多元化的「加料」和教育活動，致力豐

本地全新創作，包括粵劇、戲劇、室內歌劇、音樂和舞

A Major International Arts Festival In , Of and For Hong Kong HKAF, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the performing arts as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and educational events in February and March each year. HKAF is a non-profit organisation. Secured government baseline funding represents about 12% of the FY2019/2020 budget, with another around 5% specially provided by the Government as time-limited additional funding for five years since 2018/19. Nearly 23% of the Festival’s income needs to come from the box office, and nearly 40% from sponsorship and donations made by corporations, individuals, and charitable foundations. It is anticipated that the remaining 20% will come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching scheme, which matches income generated through private sector sponsorship and donations. HKAF actively collaborates with Hong Kong’s own creative talent and showcases emerging local artists. Over the years, HKAF has commissioned and produced over 200 local productions across genres including Cantonese opera, theatre, chamber opera, music and contemporary dance, many with successful subsequent runs in Hong Kong and overseas. Recent HKAF productions include Gangsters of Hong Kong, Always by Your Side, Pavilion of a Hundred Flowers, A Floating Family – A Trilogy, Hong Kong Odyssey, Danz Up, Datong – The Chinese Utopia, The Amahs, Wild Boar and Murder in San Jose, to name a few. HKAF frequently partners with renowned international artists and institutions to produce exceptional works, such as Der Fensterputzer (The Window Washer) co-produced by HKAF, Goethe-Institut Hong Kong and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; Richard III and The Tempest produced by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street under “The Bridge Project”, with HKAF as a co-commissioning institution; Green Snake, cocommissioned with Shanghai International Arts Festival, and Dream of the Red Chamber, co-produced with San Francisco Opera. HKAF invests heavily in arts education for young people. Over the past 28 years, our “Young Friends” scheme has reached over 770,000 local secondary and tertiary school students. A variety of arts education projects serving primary, secondary, and tertiary school students have been launched in recent years, featuring activities such as student showcases, preperformance talks, open rehearsals, opportunities to attend Festival performances, as well as in-school workshops and lecture demonstrations led by international and local artists. Donations to the “Student Ticket Scheme” also make available approximately 10,000 half-price student tickets each year. HKAF organises a diverse range of “Festival PLUS” activities in community locations each year to enhance engagement between artists and audiences. These include films, lecture demonstrations, masterclasses, workshops, symposia, backstage visits, exhibitions, meet-the-artist sessions and guided cultural tours. HKAF actively promotes inclusiveness and understanding via the arts to every corner of the community. The “No Limits” project, co-presented with the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was launched in 2019. Through a series of performances and diverse arts experiences for students and the community, “No Limits” strives to create an inclusive space for people with different abilities to share the joy of the arts together.

There is also a series of workshops and masterclasses for professionals and artists, including Shockheaded Peter Teachers’ Workshop, Béjart Ballet Lausanne Dance

Masterclass and Cyrano Directing Workshop with Tom Morris. Last but not least, HKAF@Cattle Depot Creative Hub continues to serve as a platform for developing and producing new works in collaboration with local and overseas artists. To accentuate their distinct musical qualities, artists will share insights on Beethoven’s compositional style and views on performing his music. ． The historically informed lecture-demonstration Keyboards of Beethoven’s Time uses period instruments to highlight the evolution of keyboard instruments in Beethoven’s lifetime, transiting from harpsichord to fortepiano before the modern pianoforte. ． Families and audience looking for a more light-hearted approach to Beethoven should also check out a wealth of cinema screenings and foyer concerts! 精通鍵盤樂器的專家約斯•范伊梅斯，以古鋼琴及古鍵琴重塑貝多芬早期的鍵盤音樂，點出作曲家如何巧妙地善用樂器的特色編寫樂句。講座更設現代鋼琴示範，與復古樂器對照，讓觀眾能即場分辨不同樂器的獨特音質如何影響演繹。

Conducted by renowned keyboard expert Jos van Immerseel, this event aims to highlight the keyboard evolution during Beethoven’s lifetime and how this continued evolution affected the interpretation of Beethoven’s music. Immerseel will demonstrate Beethoven’s music on harpsichord and fortepiano, highlighting Beethoven’s skillful adaptation when he composed on different keyboard instruments. 12/3 四 THU 貝多芬唯一一首小提琴協奏曲在1806年首演，反應雖不熱烈，但如今在小提琴曲目中已佔重要位置。是次香港藝術節邀請到國際小提琴巨星宓多里演奏此著名協奏曲，在音樂會前，讓我們一同細味琴弦間的浪漫。 Beethoven’s only violin concerto endured an unsuccessful premiere performance in December 1806 to become firmly accepted by listeners today as one of the greatest works of his repertoire. Before her performance of this infamous concerto with the Festival Strings Lucerne, award-winning violinist Midori will explore this true gem with the audience.

13/3 五 FRI 布魯日原音管弦樂團的音樂家將親身分享如何以復古樂器重塑貝多芬第三和第七交響曲的原本音色，於雄糾糾的早期曲風與中後期「舞蹈的神化」交響曲之間，解構「鑒古演奏」如何重塑貝多芬的原作神韻。 The skilled Flanders-based orchestra Anima Eterna Brugge uses Viennese-style woodwind instruments, natural horns, trumpets without valves and violins with thick gut strings to capture the authentic tone colours of Beethoven’s Vienna. Join the Meet-the-Artist session after the first concert, and discover the musicians’ views on historically informed performance.

This backstage tour will be led by production manager Daniel Bauer, who will shed light on the production’s background.

歌劇探秘展覽 Opera Adventure Exhibition 作曲家李察．史特勞斯曾是巴伐利亞國立歌劇院的音樂總監和首席指揮（1894-1898），他的最後一部歌劇《隨想曲》亦由歌劇院負責首演。是次展覽將帶領大家走進巴伐利亞國立歌劇院的主要表演場地－慕尼黑國家劇院，細看作曲家與慕尼黑的淵源，以及了解導演羅伯特•卡遜如何呈現作曲家最幽默巧妙的歌劇《拿索斯島的亞莉安妮》。 Richard Strauss was the music director and the principal conductor of the esteemed Bayerische Staatsoper (1894 – 1898) and had a close relationship with the city of Munich. The composer’s last opera, Capriccio, was premiered at Bayerische Staatsoper. This exhibition will take the audience on a journey around Bayerische Staatsoper’s principal performance venue – The National Theatre, look into the intrinsic relationship between the composer and Munich, and explore Robert Carsen’s take on Ariadne auf Naxos.

《兩個女子》由年輕作家黃怡執筆，改編著名作家西西的經典短篇小說《像我這樣的一個女子》和《感冒》。是次分享會中，黃怡將與作家潘國靈就西西的小說對談，分享首次編寫歌劇文本的寫作心得。《後話西遊》由粵劇新秀江駿傑以歷久不衰的《西遊記》為題，與導演黃俊達及一眾活躍於戲曲界的演員和樂師共創一台新式的舞台演出。江駿傑與黃俊達將分享創作點滴和面對突破傳統的挑戰。

For its 2020 Festival, the HKAF LCTS has commissioned an original Cantonese chamber opera - Women Like Us, and a music theatre - Journey to the West Rewind. Wong Yi (Librettist, Women Like Us) and Lawrence Pun Kwok-ling (Cultural Critic) will explore Xi Xi’s A Girl Like Me and The Cold while discussing Wong’s very first experience in adapting literature for opera.
