香港藝術節 於1973年正式揭幕,是國際藝壇中重要的 文化盛事,於每年2、3月期間呈獻眾多優秀本地及國 際藝術家的演出,以及舉辦多元化的「加料」和教育 活動,致力豐富香港的文化生活。
香港藝術節 是一所非牟利機構,2023/24財政年度預 計收入(包括第52屆香港藝術節及2024年「無限亮」) 約港幣一億五千萬,當中香港特區政府的年度撥款佔 總收入約12%,另外約25%需來自票房收入,約48% 則須依賴來自各大企業、熱心人士和慈善基金會的贊 助和捐款。預計餘下的約15%則來自其他收入,包括 政府針對捐款和贊助收入而提供的配對資助。
香港藝術節 每年呈獻眾多國際演藝名家精采多元的演 出,例如*:

香港藝術節 積極與本地演藝人才合作,並致力為新進 藝術家提供展示才華的平台。藝術節至今委約及製 作逾250套本地全新創作,包括粵劇、戲劇、室內歌 劇、音樂和舞蹈作品,不少製作更已在香港及海外多 度重演。近年的藝術節新製作包括《飯戲攻心》踏台 版、《末戀 無愛合約》、《我們最快樂》、《鼠疫》、 《陪着你走》、《百花亭贈劍》、《香港家族》三部曲、
The HKAF, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the performing arts, as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and educational events, in February and March each year.
The HKAF is a non-profit organisation. The total estimated income for FY2023/24 (including the 52nd Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2024 “No Limits” programme) is approximately HK$150 million. Current Government annual funding accounts for around 12% of the Festival’s total income. Around 25% of the Festival’s income needs to come from the box office, and around 48% from sponsorship and donations by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations. The remaining 15% is expected to come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching grant scheme, which matches income generated through private-sector sponsorship and donations.

The HKAF actively collaborates with Hong Kong’s own creative talent and showcases emerging local artists. Over the years, HKAF has commissioned and produced more than 250 local productions across various genres including Cantonese opera, theatre, chamber opera, music and contemporary dance, many with successful subsequent runs in Hong Kong and overseas. Recent HKAF productions include Table for Six on Stage, Loveless Romance, We Are Gay, The Plague, Always by Your Side, Pavilion of a Hundred Flowers, A Floating Family–A Trilogy, Hong Kong Odyssey, Danz Up, Datong–The Chinese Utopia, The Amahs and Murder in San Jose, to name a few.

The HKAF frequently partners with renowned international artists and institutions to produce exceptional works, such as Der Fensterputzer (The Window Washer), co-produced by the HKAF, Goethe-Institut Hong Kong and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; Richard III and The Tempest, produced by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street under “The Bridge Project” with the HKAF as a co-commissioning institution; Green Snake, co-commissioned with the Shanghai International Arts Festival; Dream of the Red Chamber, co-produced with the San Francisco Opera; and Laila, a co-production of the HKAF and the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
The HKAF invests heavily in arts education for young people. During the past 31 years, our “Young Friends” scheme has reached more than 820,000 local secondary and tertiary school students. A variety of arts education projects serving primary, secondary, and tertiary school students have been launched in recent years, featuring activities such as student showcases, pre-performance talks, open rehearsals, opportunities to attend Festival performances, as well as in-school workshops and lecture demonstrations led by international and local artists. Donations to the “Student Ticket Scheme” also make available approximately 10,000 halfprice student tickets each year.
The HKAF organises a diverse range of “Festival PLUS” activities in community locations each year to enhance engagement between artists and audiences. These include films, lecture demonstrations, masterclasses, workshops, symposia, backstage visits, exhibitions, meet-the-artist sessions and guided cultural tours.
The HKAF actively promotes inclusion via the arts to every corner of the community. The “No Limits” project, co-presented with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was launched in 2019. Through a series of performances and diverse arts experiences for students and the community, “No Limits” strives to create an inclusive space for people with different abilities to share the joy of the arts together.
To provide greater financial security and long-term sustainability for the Festival, the Hong Kong Arts Festival Foundation was officially launched in 2022. Donations to the Foundation will be used towards enabling the Festival to present in the future large-scale projects which its annual budget cannot cater for.

創作人的話 Creator's Note
這個作品的起源,是希望分析當代藝術及 「身份」之間的關係。準確一點來說,是現 代阿拉伯身份與不斷擴張的藝術世界之間的 關係。這同時也關乎「藝術」及「藝術市場」 之間的衝突,還有「危機」的概念。
近年阿拉伯藝術家在當代藝術界聲名 大噪,或許可被視為反抗以往阿拉伯藝術中 呈現之東方主義。然而,此突破卻主要由外 在的政治事件所帶動:九一一事件可說是導 火線,其後阿拉伯之春則增加了人們的好奇 心,重新審視長期隱藏在面紗下的阿拉伯身 份,但亦間接令阿拉伯藝術和政治藝術的界 線愈趨模糊。世界嘗試理解中東與北非正發 生的各種事情,繼而對這些地區的藝術家亦 產生興趣。阿拉伯藝術家的作品議題範疇極 廣,包括政治、社會、靈性、情慾、玩味、 批評乃至身體作為政治主體。
在當代的歷史脈絡下,阿拉伯世界對自 身的概念與價值觀也提出了質疑。在不同時 間觀下,這種質疑引發了兩個對立的派系: 前者將身份與過去聯繫,認為身份是歷史的 延伸;後者則認為身份是一個恆常變化的元 素,必須和「當下」掛鈎才有意義。這兩套 互為衝突的觀點,卻不約而同地以阿拉伯安 達盧西亞這個黃金時代作為立足點,各自演 繹對「身份」的理解。

The starting point of this research was an analysis of the relationship between the domains of contemporary art and identity. More precisely, between the modern Arabian identity and the geographic expansion of the art world. It applies to the context of conflict between “art” and the “art market”, considering the notion of crisis.
The recent breakthrough of Arabian artists in the world of contemporary art can be analysed as a phenomenon of resistance to the orientalism of modern Arabian art. But this breakthrough is mainly motivated by major political events. September 11 was a trigger, then the Arab Spring increased curiosity and turned to look at this mysterious identity to the point that Arabian art “has become synonymous with political art”. The world became interested in contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa region as it was trying to understand what was happening there. The Arabian artists created works that reflected on politics, society, spirituality, eroticism, playfulness, criticism and the body as a political subject.
But, moreover, in the contemporary historical context, the Arab world questions its concepts and its values. This questioning has generated two antagonistic parties in their temporal conceptions: one connects identity to the past, as an extension of history; the other considers identity as an element in metamorphosis, in its relation to the present. These two conflicting visions with their inherent paradox generally try to convince with their interpretation of identity based on the historical example of Arab Andalusia: a golden age in which an identity was forged both in contemporaneity and nostalgia.

摩洛哥藝術家尤那斯.雅班透過舞台作品 《無題14公里》精心建構了一個時空交錯 的藝術空間,以黑色幽默直擊當代阿拉伯 藝術世界的現況。
Youness Atbane’s Untitled 14KM is a time-travel burlesque that unveils and dismantles the modern Arab art scene by turning both time and space upside down.
一名男子披着黃金斗篷,在虛構的「北 非中東當代藝術博物館」超現實舞台上展開 故事。原來,此人來自十二世紀的西班牙安 達盧西亞。該地可謂象徵了阿拉伯史上的 「黃金時代」,令世世代代的阿拉伯人與有榮 焉。「別問我他是怎麽來到現在的。」在我提 問之前,雅班已先發制人搶答道:「他就是來 了。」
In almost surrealist fashion, a man—clad in a stately gold cloak and a metal helmet—takes centre stage within the imaginary “Museum of North African Middle East Contemporary Art” onstage. It turns out that the man comes from Andalusian Spain of the 12th century, a “golden age” in Arab history that generations of Arabs have been taught to take pride in. “Don’t ask me how we brought him to the present,” Atbane shrewdly adds before I could pose the obvious question. “He’s simply there.”

劇中的荒誕可不止於此。這位「古人」 身上的華麗斗篷其實是一張太空毯,是難民 用來保溫禦寒的救援工具。近年來,中東人 的形象與穿越歐洲的難民時常交疊 ,當中悖 論不言而喻:阿拉伯人身份在多種外界詮釋 下反複張弛——受害者、被妖魔化的異族, 以及只能在博物館方能重現的偉大文明之主 人。
觀眾踏入表演空間,隨即步進雅班及其 團隊建構的一座博物館,欣賞一系列為劇場 度身訂造、令人目眩神迷的藝術裝置。對於 出身自摩洛哥某陶藝世家的他而言,選擇成 為藝術家可說是理所當然。然而雅班逐漸意 識到,在藝術市場的主宰下,視覺藝術家對 自身作品的價值其實並無話語權。但他不以 為然,另闢蹊徑:將表演變成一個藝術遊樂 場或「工作坊」,藉此解決兩大問題:如何繞 過藝術市場,以及如何融合自己的兩門興趣 ——表演及視覺藝術。
以某個種類或標籤來定義雅班的藝術, 恐怕有欠公允。他的作品既是表演,也是紀 錄,更是對阿拉伯後殖民社會的研究,帶着 一種無法定型的流動性質。而「水」在其作 品中亦確實佔了獨特的位置:《無題14公里》 中的「14公里」,指的是直布羅陀海峽—— 即北非與歐洲之間、無數難民試圖穿越的水 域之寬度。
雅班的創作植根阿拉伯文化,要如何引 發香港觀眾共鳴?雅班自有一番見解:「我 總是幻想自己是一尾魚,在沒有國界的大海 裏,自我蛻變。」

The absurdity doesn’t end there. The majestic cloak worn by the time traveller is in fact a space blanket—the kind often seen protecting refugees from the cold. As the image of the Middle East becomes associated with refugees crossing into Europe, the paradox is plain to see: an Arab identity torn between victimhood, demonised alien and a glorified past that is only accessible through museum artifacts.
Once inside the performance space, the audience will be drawn to a series of art installations that Atbane and his team have tailor-made for the imaginary museum. For Atbane, who grew up in a family of pottery artists in Morocco, being an artist wasn’t as much a choice as a natural course—even though it became increasingly clear that visual artists have little say in the value of their own work. The art market does. But Atbane has his own unique response to this. By turning the performance into a playground for his art pieces, or a “workshop” as he calls it, Atbane has found a solution to both problems: first, how to bypass the art market; and second, how to consummate his love for both performing and visual arts.
It is not hard to see that Atbane’s brand of art is many things at once: performance, visual archive and intellectual inquiry into the Arab postcolonial condition. But there's one common denominator: a sense of fluidity that defies stereotypes. This is perhaps why water is such a prominent motif in his works—the “14KM” in Untitled 14KM refers to the width of the Strait of Gibraltar, the stretch of water that separates North Africa from Europe, and which thousands of refugees have tried to cross.
One may question how his work, so rooted in Arab history, might strike a chord with the Hong Kong audience. “I always imagine myself as a fish in the sea, where identity border vanishes and where personal transformation becomes possible.”

Concept Youness Atbane
Youness Atbane currently lives and works between Casablanca and Berlin. His artistic practice is based on a critical relationship to the fields of art, its actors and its geopolitics. He began to follow different programmes and gained artistic experiences in the fields of performance and visual art in France, Morocco, Belgium and Spain. In 2008, he took part in the Master’s performing art programme “EX E.R.CE08” at the CCN Montpelier. In 2010, he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Art (Literature and Museology) from the University of Nice.
His practice consists of three areas: live performance as a space of reflection, installation making as an outcome of the performance act, and photography and drawing as an archive. All three areas are interconnected and interdependent. The exploratory nature of his work brings together performative and narrative practices.
Atbane has presented his installations and performances at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, the parallel project to the Venice Biennale in 2011, the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat, the Ostrale Biennale in Dresden, the Headlands Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the British Museum and the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations in Marseille.

Born in 1983 in Casablanca, Zouheir Atbane is a multidisciplinary sound artist. He oscillates between projects involving sound research, choreography and light creation.

拉切.拿杜里在1987年生於摩洛哥的卡薩布蘭 卡,正好位於城市的心臟地帶:動物園。由於這 非凡的地理位置,令童年時期的他得以與大自然 及動物頻繁接觸。
與自然深厚的連結亦成為他對音樂產生興趣 與熱情的契機,特別是敲擊樂。自少年時期,他 就開始學習非洲手鼓djembe,此樂器也成為他 藝術靈魂的化身。
Technical Manager Rachid Latouri
Rachid Latouri was born in 1987 in Casablanca, Morocco, right in the heart of an extraordinary place: the city’s zoo. He spent his childhood in constant proximity to nature and the animals that inhabited this fascinating location.
This deep connection with nature became the starting point for his passion for music, particularly percussion. During his teenage years, he started playing the djembe, an African percussion instrument, which became the soul of his artistic expression.

Performer Hanne Van Dyck
Hanne Van Dyck is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brussels, Belgium. Her work explores liminal spaces and rituals that address the interconnectedness of nature and culture, as well as the human and spirit world. Van Dyck explores states of isolation, dislocation and trance. Using travelling as a working method, she creates deep spaces of reflection, translating her experiences and research into mixed-media installations, text-based performances, videos and publications, often collaborating with other artists, dancers and anthropologists. She is the founder of JUJlab, a laboratory for intimate interdisciplinary exchange and reflection in Marrakesh.

Performer Kamal Adissa
Kamal Adissa began his dance career in 2004 with the company Anania in Marrakesh, following contemporary dance workshops at the French Institute of Marrakesh. He started studying at the CMDC Tunis in 2007, where he met many professional actors from the contemporary choreographic scene of West and East Africa.
Adissa later created Zafir in collaboration with the French choreographer Marion Blondeau, and the duo were invited by Josef Nadj to the Centre Chorégraphique National d’Orléans. Continuing his career in Morocco with the Anania Company, he danced and performed in the Rev’illusion piece by choreographer Taoufiq Izeddiou, and conducted workshops set up by the French Institute in Marrakesh.
Adissa has also appeared in three short films directed by El Mehdi Azzam: Le Bal des suspendus, Linge sal and Bêlons

Performer Mouad Gabriel Aissi
Mouad Gabriel Aissi is a dancer-performer and assistant choreographer originally from Morocco, recognised for his talent and commitment in the world of contemporary dance. He is also one of the founders of the renowned Moroccan dance company 2KFar and played a key role as a founding member of Lhiba Kingzoo, a bold artistic collective.
Aissi developed his passion for dance from a young age. His training in contemporary dance led him to explore various styles and techniques, providing a strong foundation for his future career. He took contemporary dance classes and quickly acquired skills that set him apart on the Moroccan dance scene.

Voice, Research Aziz Nadif
Aziz Nadif was born in 1984. After making his debut as a classical singer at the Casablanca Conservatory of Music, he joined the world of contemporary dance after a meeting with choreographer Khalid Benghrib. He continued training under international choreographers such as Loren Palmer, Youness Atbane and Roshaus Aust.
His personal work focuses on a combination of voice and movement. After becoming an active member of the 2KFar Company, he continued to develop his creative process by performing more on the international scene. For many years, Nadif has been involved in the promotion of contemporary Moroccan dance and remains an active member of the Moroccan cultural landscape.
