香港藝術節 於1973年正式揭幕，是國際藝壇中重要的 文化盛事，於每年2、3月期間呈獻眾多優秀本地及國 際藝術家的演出，以及舉辦多元化的「加料」和教育 活動，致力豐富香港的文化生活。
香港藝術節 是一所非牟利機構，2023/24財政年度預 計收入（包括第52屆香港藝術節及2024年「無限亮」） 約港幣一億五千萬，當中香港特區政府的年度撥款佔 總收入約12%，另外約25%需來自票房收入，約48% 則須依賴來自各大企業、熱心人士和慈善基金會的贊 助和捐款。預計餘下的約15%則來自其他收入，包括 政府針對捐款和贊助收入而提供的配對資助。
香港藝術節 每年呈獻眾多國際演藝名家精采多元的演 出，例如*：

香港藝術節 積極與本地演藝人才合作，並致力為新進 藝術家提供展示才華的平台。藝術節至今委約及製 作逾250套本地全新創作，包括粵劇、戲劇、室內歌 劇、音樂和舞蹈作品，不少製作更已在香港及海外多 度重演。近年的藝術節新製作包括《飯戲攻心》踏台 版、《末戀 無愛合約》、《我們最快樂》、《鼠疫》、 《陪着你走》、《百花亭贈劍》、《香港家族》三部曲、
The HKAF, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the performing arts, as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and educational events, in February and March each year.
The HKAF is a non-profit organisation. The total estimated income for FY2023/24 (including the 52nd Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2024 “No Limits” programme) is approximately HK$150 million. Current Government annual funding accounts for around 12% of the Festival’s total income. Around 25% of the Festival’s income needs to come from the box office, and around 48% from sponsorship and donations by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations. The remaining 15% is expected to come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching grant scheme, which matches income generated through private-sector sponsorship and donations.

The HKAF actively collaborates with Hong Kong’s own creative talent and showcases emerging local artists. Over the years, HKAF has commissioned and produced more than 250 local productions across various genres including Cantonese opera, theatre, chamber opera, music and contemporary dance, many with successful subsequent runs in Hong Kong and overseas. Recent HKAF productions include Table for Six on Stage, Loveless Romance, We Are Gay, The Plague, Always by Your Side, Pavilion of a Hundred Flowers, A Floating Family–A Trilogy, Hong Kong Odyssey, Danz Up, Datong–The Chinese Utopia, The Amahs and Murder in San Jose, to name a few.

The HKAF frequently partners with renowned international artists and institutions to produce exceptional works, such as Der Fensterputzer (The Window Washer), co-produced by the HKAF, Goethe-Institut Hong Kong and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; Richard III and The Tempest, produced by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street under “The Bridge Project” with the HKAF as a co-commissioning institution; Green Snake, co-commissioned with the Shanghai International Arts Festival; Dream of the Red Chamber, co-produced with the San Francisco Opera; and Laila, a co-production of the HKAF and the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
The HKAF invests heavily in arts education for young people. During the past 31 years, our “Young Friends” scheme has reached more than 820,000 local secondary and tertiary school students. A variety of arts education projects serving primary, secondary, and tertiary school students have been launched in recent years, featuring activities such as student showcases, pre-performance talks, open rehearsals, opportunities to attend Festival performances, as well as in-school workshops and lecture demonstrations led by international and local artists. Donations to the “Student Ticket Scheme” also make available approximately 10,000 halfprice student tickets each year.
The HKAF organises a diverse range of “Festival PLUS” activities in community locations each year to enhance engagement between artists and audiences. These include films, lecture demonstrations, masterclasses, workshops, symposia, backstage visits, exhibitions, meet-the-artist sessions and guided cultural tours.
The HKAF actively promotes inclusion via the arts to every corner of the community. The “No Limits” project, co-presented with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was launched in 2019. Through a series of performances and diverse arts experiences for students and the community, “No Limits” strives to create an inclusive space for people with different abilities to share the joy of the arts together.
To provide greater financial security and long-term sustainability for the Festival, the Hong Kong Arts Festival Foundation was officially launched in 2022. Donations to the Foundation will be used towards enabling the Festival to present in the future large-scale projects which its annual budget cannot cater for.

添．高治的獨腳戲《狗樣的真相》延續其
一貫風格，以「後設」劇場的形式，審視 戲劇在當下的定位及價值，引人深思之餘 卻不失俏皮，同時亦重新肯定了戲劇的無 限可能性。
British experimental playwright and actor Tim Crouch’s one-man show Truth’s a Dog Must to Kennel is a work of theatre that’s mainly about theatre itself. Fairly typically of the work of its creator, it’s a meta-theatrical examination of the role of the art form that questions its validity in the modern world. But while doing this in such a compellingly tricksy and thought-provoking manner, it also manages to affirm exactly what theatre can be.
添．高治飾演莎士比亞《李爾王》中的小 丑；在莎翁原劇中，小丑跟隨着命運悲慘的國 王，不時插科打諢，又與國王唇槍舌劍。眾所 周知，小丑在故事不到一半便失去了影蹤。這 次劇作嘗試接續他的故事：原來他是因為受夠 了，所以拂袖而去。他坐在台上，戴着虛擬實 境眼鏡，一邊「觀看」自己退出後的戲碼，一 邊向觀眾描述「眼前」所見。
Crouch plays the Fool from Shakespeare’s King Lear, the tragic king’s comic foil and verbal sparring partner, who famously disappears less than halfway through the play. Here, he is revealed to have left because he’s simply had enough and sits on stage wearing a virtual reality headset through which he supposedly views the performance that he has just left, which is happening in a much posher theatre, and describes it to the audience.

添．高治解釋，他之所以選擇《李爾王》 作為源文本，是因為原著裏禮崩樂壞的動盪 背景，與當世有着深遠的呼應。因此，他對 小丑選擇離開的決定，亦產生了一定程度的 同理心。
這次製作透過糅合傳統劇場所象徵的 集體現實體驗，以及與之相對的虛擬數碼體 驗，審視人際關係的意義。與添．高治過去 醞釀多年的作品不同，這次作品可 說 是一揮 而就，並在2022年進行首演。劇作在疫症中 寫成，那時表演藝術幾近消失，作為對「消 失」的省思再合適不過。作品中「戲劇」的 缺席，正正比喻了整個劇場、甚至是所有現 場表演的生態。

The playwright has said that he chose King Lear as his source text because it is set in a turbulent realm when governance is unravelling, something he sees as having widespread resonance in the contemporary era—and he felt a certain sympathy with the Fool’s desire to simply leave.
The production looks at the role of human connection and of shared physical experiences like the theatre, compared to mediated digital experiences, by being both of those things at the same time. It was written during the pandemic and first performed in 2022. Unlike most of his plays, which usually percolate for years, Crouch says this one was written quickly. It is a meditation on disappearance created during a time when theatre itself, as a performing art, had largely disappeared from the world. The absence of the play being described serves as a metaphor for the state of theatre and by extension of live performance generally.
In fact, it’s completely absent; at one point he notes that his virtual reality headset isn’t showing anything at all. It’s a very Crouchian move: admitting, pointing out and revelling in the artificiality of theatre has been central to his oeuvre since the first play he wrote in 2003—My Arm
Throughout his career, he has pushed the boundaries of theatrical form, gleefully trampling all over conventions of realism and mise-en-scène, involving the audience in creating the story and even using inanimate props to stand in for actors. In The Author, for example, actors sit in the audience discussing an abusive play they have performed in; in Adler and Gibb, the performances move from deliberately stilted to naturalistic as the play progresses; and in An Oak Tree, a different actor plays one of the two roles each night, with no advance knowledge of the production.
All along, Crouch’s work has been a metatextual examination of theatre as a form, its methods of representation and its ethical responsibilities, as well as those of its audiences. With Truth’s a Dog Must to Kennel, he continues this investigation, asking us to consider what role theatre can play in a post-truth, post-pandemic, politically fractured world.

In 2002 James set up The Dialogue Project, working as a creative director, facilitator and coach, enabling people to have conversations. His audio work features in his podcast series 2+2=5 on BBC Radio 4’s Short Cuts, A Different Kind of Justice for BBC Radio 4, at Latitude Festival and in Third Coast’s Filmless Festival in Chicago.

Andy Smith is a theatre-maker who has collaborated closely with Tim Crouch since 2004, most recently co-directing (along with Karl James) Total Immediate Collective Imminent Terrestrial Salvation (2019). His other recent works include COMMONISM (2018, in collaboration with Amund Sjølie Sveen), SUMMIT (2018) and The Preston Bill (2015). He is currently developing Plays For The People, a series of works designed for groups of people to meet, read together and then discuss. He is a part-time lecturer in Theatre Practice at The University of Manchester.

Music, Sound Designer Pippa Murphy
Pippa Murphy is an award-winning composer and sound designer who scores for film, theatre, orchestras and choirs.
Her theatre credits include Orphans (National Theatre of Scotland); An Edinburgh Christmas Carol (Royal Lyceum Theatre); Total Immediate Collective Imminent Terrestrial Salvation; Lost at Sea (Perth Horsecross); Red Lion (Rapture Theatre); A Streetcar Named Desire (Rapture Theatre) and Woman in Mind (Dundee Rep).
And her film/dance/music credits include Joseph Knight—Scenes for Survival (BBC, National Theatre Scotland); Message from the Skies (Edinburgh Hogmanay 2018, 2019, 2020) and POP-UP Duets (Janis Claxton Dance, National Museums of Scotland).

Laura Hawkins trained at Rose Bruford College, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design. Her recent design credits include The Steamie (Dundee Rep); Awaken (Cheryl Prince); Summer on Stage, Seven Against Edinburgh (Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh); Bill McLaren: Fighting the Enemy (Firebrand Theatre); The Comic Tragedy, By the Seat of your Pants (Plutôt la Vie); Clybourne Park (Rapture Theatre Company); Obvious Unrest, Torn (Faux Theatre); and By a Thread (Kat and Dawg Productions).
