在過去三十年,藝術節的「青少年 之友」計劃共有超過 80 萬名本地中 學及大專學生參加 。藝術節今年更 首度舉辦「藝術 X 科技創作比賽」, 鼓 勵 同 學 善 用 科 技, 進 行 藝 術 創 作,預計會吸引更多年輕朋友參與。

今屆藝術節呈獻多部世界級作品, 當中不少節目均可免費觀賞,例如 捷克布爾諾國家歌劇院震撼人心的 改 編 劇 作 馬 替 奴《希 臘 受 難 曲》、 巴伐利亞班貝格交響樂團在其著名 音 樂 廳 上 演 的 音 樂 會、 巴 伐 利 亞 國 立 歌 劇 院 製 作 的 歌 劇, 以 及 巴 黎 歌 劇 院 芭 蕾 舞 團 的 佳 作。 至 於 收 費 節 目, 焦 點 則 有 比 利 時 劇 團 Ontroerend Goed 創 作 的 互 動 劇 場 《 TM 》、都柏林正點劇團的網上直播 劇作《機器超人》,以及布里斯托爾 老域劇團精心製作、講述成長故事 的戲劇《奇蹟男孩》。 我特別感謝藝術節一直致力栽培本 地藝術人才,並在社區大力推廣藝 術文化。過去五十年間,藝術節委 託 和 製 作 的 本 地 作 品 逾 250 項, 涵 蓋粵劇、當代舞蹈、戲劇、音樂、 室內歌劇等多個範疇,不少作品更 在香港及世界各地多度載譽重演 。 藝術節每年還舉辦約 250 項「加料節 目」。適逢今年舉行北京 2022 冬季奧 運會,今屆「加料節目」將安排放映 三段各具特色的冰上舞蹈影片,不 容錯過。

1973, more than 1,700 local and international artists a year take part in the Festival and its bravura mix of innovative contemporary works and traditional offerings. In doing so, our acclaimed Festival burnishes Hong Kong’s international reputation in the arts, while spotlighting local culture.

This year’s programme features a wealth of world-class productions. Many are free, including the National Theatre Brno’s powerful adaptation of Bohuslav Martinů’s opera The Greek Passion, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra concerts from the Bavarian orchestra’s famed concert hall, operas by Bayerische Staatsoper, and Paris Opera Ballet productions. Centre’s live-streamed play To Be a Machine, and Bristol Old Vic’s production of the outstanding comingof-age play Wonder Boy. I am particularly grateful for the Festival’s continuing dedication to the development of our local artists, and the cultivation of arts and culture in the community. Over the past 50 years, the Festival has commissioned and produced more than 250 local productions, embracing Cantonese opera and contemporary dance, theatre, music, chamber opera and much more. Many of the works enjoyed subsequent runs in Hong Kong and around the world. The Festival also presents some 250 PLUS events annually. This year’s PLUS programme includes three discrete videos on ice dancing, in celebration of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. The Festival’s Young Friends Scheme has reached more than 800,000 local secondary and tertiary school students over the past 30 years. I expect even more interest from our youth this year with the debut of the Arts X Tech Creative Competition and its spotlight on technology-inspired art. My congratulations, once again, on the milestone 50th edition of the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Over the next half century, I have no doubt that the Festival will continue to entertain, enlighten and dazzle Hong Kong and the world, while advancing our new and welcomed status as an Eastmeets-West centre for international cultural exchange as laid out in the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

今 年 是 香 港 藝 術 節 五 十 周 年, 感 謝你與我們一同見證這重要的里程 碑 。雖然疫情持續帶來挑戰,但藝 術節仍繼續致力為觀眾帶來海外與 本地的出色表演 。 國際交通尚未復蘇,而香港藝術節 亦作出相應調整,以線上和線下形 式呈獻一系列世界級精采表演 。今 年以「繫」為主題,帶出香港藝術 節如何透過戲劇、舞蹈、歌劇和音 樂等節目,跟世界保持聯繫,同時 也跟觀眾保持聯繫 。我們深信優秀 的藝術,不論以何種形式呈現,都 能療癒人心 。我們衷心希望能為你 在這極具意義的一年,帶來許多難 忘時光 。

The Hong Kong Arts Festival marks a significant milestone this year and I would like to thank you for joining us in celebrating its 50th edition. Though the pandemic continues to make productions everywhere challenging, the Festival is poised to bring you some of the best in performing arts from across the world. The prevailing conditions have made travel difficult and the HKAF has once again adapted its programmes in response. The Festival will continue to present an excellent world-class line-up, both online and in-venue. This year’s theme is “Connected”: the HKAF remains connected— to the world and to its audiences— bringing a range of programmes, including theatre, dance, opera and music. We are convinced that great art, in whatever form it might be presented, is a tonic and we sincerely hope to offer you many memorable moments in this landmark year.

Circumstances have forced us to adapt this year, and some invenue performances have had to be rescheduled, giving us an extended period in the year which marks our 50th Anniversary, 30 years of Young Friends, and of course the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR. We are honoured that a number of signature Festival programmes have been selected for inclusion in the 25th Anniversary events. In this and in many other ways, the Festival has been a part of the Hong Kong story over the past 50 years. We will continue in this role in the years to come, and we sincerely hope that you will continue to stay connected with us long into the future. An International Arts Festival in Hong Kong Connecting China and the World 香港藝術節於 1973 年正式揭幕,是國際藝壇中重要 的文化盛事,於每年 2、3 月期間呈獻眾多優秀本地 及國際藝術家的演出,以及舉辦多元化的「加料」 和教育活動,致力豐富香港的文化生活 。

香港藝術節是一所非牟利機構,2021/22 財政年度預 算(包括第 50 屆香港藝術節及 2022 年「無限亮」) 約港幣一億二千四百萬,當中香港特區政府的年度 撥 款 佔 總 收 入 約 21%, 另 外 約 16% 需 來 自 票 房 收 入,約 45% 則需依賴來自各大企業、熱心人士和慈 善基金會的贊助和捐款 。預計餘下的約 18% 則來自 其他收入,包括政府針對捐款和贊助收入而提供的 配對資助 。 香港藝術節每年呈獻眾多國際演藝名家精采多元的 演出,例如 *:

HKAF, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the performing arts as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and educational events in February and March each year. HKAF is a non-profit organisation. The total budget for FY2021/22 (including the 50th Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2022 “No Limits”) is approximately HK$124 million. Current Government annual funding accounts for around 21% of the Festival's total income. Around 16% of the Festival’s income needs to come from the box office, and around 45% from sponsorship and donations made by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations. The remaining 18% is expected to come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching scheme, which matches income generated through private sector sponsorship and donations.

Twelve-year-old Sonny suffers from a stammer so severe he cannot even say his name clearly. His school life is littered with difficulties, misunderstandings and disappointment. Sonny’s imaginary friend Captain Chatter is the only one who understands him. The turning point comes when Wainwright the deputy headteacher puts Sonny and another “problem” student, Roshi, in the Lunchtime Drama Club, in the hope they can challenge themselves through drama. Being cast in a production of Hamlet leads Sonny to discover the joy of language and words. Sonny’s family background and its

profound influence on him is gradually revealed as the plot develops. Will language ultimately cure him or be the start of fresh troubles?

導演的話 DIRECTOR’S NOTE 我第一次和羅斯討論《奇蹟男孩》 已是三年前,那時候在布里斯托 爾老域劇團的新文本戲劇節看到演 出 。羅斯寫《奇蹟男孩》的時候只 有二十歲,風格已自成一家,且能 深入描寫一個有溝通障礙的少年所 面對的身心困頓,實在讓我驚嘆 。 羅斯的文字極具戲劇色彩,儘管他 探索創傷、失落和羞恥等主題的手 法大膽,且情感明晰之至,讓人痛 心,卻處處不失玩味和狡黠 。作 為導演,能接到這樣內涵豐富的劇 本,實在是夢寐以求 。

因為疫情關係,製作三次延期,實 在令人沮喪 。但我和羅斯亦因此 有了更多時間溝通、互相了解, 也算是個難得機會 。我們的「快 聊一下」往往演變成三個小時的 通話——我們從世界現況談到劇場 界、大家都如何討厭 Zoom 會議 (即使那已是我們生命中不可或缺 的一部分),乃至豹紋牆紙、辦公 椅種類、各自的喜好,以及彼此的 成長經歷——我們曾經花了一整個 下午,只為找一張舒適的辦公椅, 但最後沒有成功 。

當這次的製作意念開始成形時,我 與慈善機構英國口吃協會聯絡,希 望進一步了解他們的工作,由此在 布里斯托爾的分部認識了「改善演 說」運動的倡議者兼導師西蒙 .貝 利,深受啟迪 。引用西蒙之語,他 致力於「分享他對口吃的經驗和知 識,以幫助人們改善口吃行為,反 過來培養自豪感」。西蒙多次百忙 中抽空來跟劇團分享自己的親身經 驗,更邀請我們參與為口吃人士而 設的支援小組,成就了我們人生中 一些最難忘、最動人的時刻 。西蒙 的支持和智慧使我們受益匪淺,能 和他合作是莫大的榮幸 。 與布里斯托爾老域劇團的外展部合 作,是製作過程中的重要一環 。除 了以《奇蹟男孩》作為這個學期的 課業素材,在演出籌備期間,外展

It’s been nearly three years since I first spoke to Ross about Wonder Boy, having seen it performed as part of a New Writing Festival produced by Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He wrote it when he was 20. I was struck by the unique voice of his writing and his ability to get inside the body and mind of a teenage boy struggling to communicate. His writing is inherently theatrical and although themes of trauma, loss and shame are investigated with bold, gut-wrenching clarity, Ross’s playfulness and sense of mischief are ever-present. As a director, it was a dream come true to be given such a rich palette. Frustratingly, the production had to be postponed three times due to the pandemic but at least that gave me and Ross precious time to talk and get to know each

other. Our “just phoning for a quick chat” turned into three-hour conversations where we’d mull over the state of the world, the theatre industry, how we hated Zoom (despite it becoming a lifeline), leopard-skin wallpaper, favourite things, hated things, our different experiences of growing up and office chairs. We spent an afternoon together looking for a comfortable office chair––without success. As ideas formed around the production, I reached out to the charity STAMMA to find out more about the work they do, and it was through the Bristol branch that I met the inspirational Simon Bailey, an important advocate and teacher of WOMS (Working on My Speech). Simon has made it his passion to––in his words––“share his experience and knowledge of stammering in order to help people change their stammering behaviour and replace it with great pride”. Simon gave up his time on several occasions to talk to the company about his lived experience, and invited us to attend support groups within the stammering community which were some of the most moving and memorable evenings we experienced. His support and knowledge have been invaluable, and it has been a privilege working with him. An important part of the process has been working with the Engagement Department at Bristol Old Vic. As well as using Wonder Boy as the source material

Director’s Note

for their own work this term, they also enabled an emerging artist placement to happen during the creation of the show. Ciarán O’Breen is now part of the team and is a rare talent with a lot to offer the theatre industry, both as a Deaf actor and a director. Ciarán took part in the Engagement Department’s Made in Bristol scheme in 2020/21––a year-long opportunity offered to young theatre makers to experiment and create together, under the guidance of professional artists. We look forward to seeing his career blossom.

At the heart of Wonder Boy lies the theme of communicating and how powerless we become when prevented from doing that. We have had many discussions during the rehearsal process about how society stigmatises anyone who communicates differently. To quote Ross: “the great inner operatic pain that comes from not feeling seen or being able to express oneself” is what we have collectively tried to shine a light on. We hope you enjoy it.

After his critically acclaimed debut play Wolfie, Ross Willis returns with a drama in a similar vein, Wonder Boy. He speaks about finding new ways to tell stories.

戲劇對你來說一直都那麼 重要嗎 ?

深得我心,類似是說每個劇作 家其實都是在反覆寫着同一部 劇,只是換個方式而已——我大 概也是這樣吧 ? 我覺得青少年 的角色比較吸引我,因為他們 的堅韌,比起他們所面對的問 題,讓我更感到不可思議。

我在布里斯托爾長大,期間沒 有太多途徑接觸青年劇場或戲 劇 團 體。 但 如 果 當 年 有 這 樣 的機會,那絕對會是我熱衷的 事。我記得自己非常享受讀中 學時的戲劇科 。 跟我們談談,你對劇場的興趣 是怎樣開始的 ? 是甚麼作品或 人物啟發了你 ?

我記得小時候和克里斯 .夏里 斯在布里斯托爾老域劇團看了 一齣默劇,驚為天人 。我當時 的小腦袋還從未看過或感受過 這樣的刺激 ! 默劇的那種無序 與生動,都深深啟發了我 。後 來長大後,我有天和朋友相約 見面,剛抵達倫敦維多利亞便 被對方爽約,要想辦法消磨時 間。我走到最便宜的劇院,最 後在皇家宮廷劇院一口氣看了 提姆.派斯 的《嚴肅的互聯網 》以及羅伊 .馬拉基 的《門邊 的 狼》。 那 是 我 首 次 接 觸 到 新 文本,並意識到劇場可以是古 怪、超現實又充滿當代感的, 而不只是上演改編作品或做一 些矯揉造作的表演 。

《遺 孤 姊 妹 花》呈 現 了 一 個 小 孩在寄養制度裡的漂泊無依, 而你的新作《奇蹟男孩》則是 關於一個十二歲口吃男孩的故 事。你是否對問題青少年的題 材特別感興趣 ? 哈 ! 對。機緣巧合下,我連續 寫了兩部劇,都是關於問題青 少年,至於未來的幾部劇,則 會是關於受人生難題困擾的異 獸 。西蒙 .史蒂芬斯有句名言 16

在布里斯托爾老域劇團的介紹 中,寫道「桑尼幻想出超級漫 畫英雄來讓自己超脫現實」。很 多劇評人都以「超現實」來形 容《遺孤姊妹花》,《奇蹟男孩》 也有這樣的超現實元素嗎 ? 我想,很多人在閱讀一部新劇 作的時候,都會預想它是無聊 的——場景設置在廚房,然後充 滿了枯燥乏味的對話之類 。我 對那樣的劇作沒有興趣。《奇蹟 男孩》的每一幕都至少有一次 難度極高的舞台指示,格調明 亮、寫實而不乏光彩。希望這 部劇能帶來許多驚喜。

另 一 位 劇 評 人 寫 道 :「 你 能 感 受到,讓羅斯真正感興趣的, 是 如 何 拓 展 劇 場 的 界 限。」 你同意嗎 ? 我 從 來 都 不 看 劇 評。 我 想, 我是希望寫出只能以劇場形式 存在的劇作 。劇作意念本身要 充滿戲劇性,才能讓我感到興 奮 。我希望能夠充分運用劇場 所能夠提供的一切 。有時候是 運用隱喻、想像、令人難忘的 意象、以非文字的手法來說故 事,或是為觀眾製造驚喜和娛 樂,有時候則是單純地改變場 內氛圍,營造完全敞開心靈的 瞬間 。劇場,以它實時發生的 本質來說,是一種非常情緒化 的媒介;劇場是一台能營造極

致共情的機器 。我不知道自己 是不是在拓展劇場界限,但我 知道,自己會一直醉心於尋找 說故事的新方法,務求建構出 非被動的體驗 。那應該是一種 深入人心、想像力非凡,發自 內在而真實生動的體驗。

Was drama always important to you?

I grew up in Bristol. Young Company or drama groups weren’t really on my radar growing up but it’s something I would have loved to do. I remember enjoying GCSE Drama a lot. Tell us how you got into theatre. What or who first inspired you? I remember as a kid watching a pantomime with Chris Harris at the Bristol Old Vic and it BLOWING MY MIND. My tiny brain hadn’t seen or felt anything like it! The anarchy and liveness of pantomime is still something which really inspires me. Then later as an adult, I was in London one day and my friend cancelled on me just as I arrived in Victoria so I needed something else to do. So I walked to the cheapest theatre and ended up at the Royal Court and watched The Internet is Serious Business by Tim Price and The Wolf from the Door by Rory Mullarkey both in the same day. It was the first time I realised new writing was a thing and that theatre could be strange, surrealist,

contemporary and not just adaptations and twee. Wolfie showed us the desolation of being a child adrift in a care system – while your new play Wonder Boy is about a 12-year-old living with a stammer. Are you particularly drawn to writing about troubled teens? Ha! Yes. I’ve accidentally written two plays back-to-back about troubled teenagers which is why the next few plays I’m writing right now are about troubled immortal creatures instead. I like that quote Simon Stephens says about how every playwright is writing the same play over just in different guises––so maybe I’m just doing that? I think I’m more drawn to teen characters because I find their resilience incredible, more so than their trouble. In the Bristol Old Vic

description, we read that a “comic book hero of Sonny’s own creation helps him to soar above his bleak reality”. “Surreal” is a word used by many critics to describe Wolfie––does Wonder Boy have a surreal element? I think when a lot of people read a new play they think it’s going to be BORING and set in a kitchen and just have lots of boring talking. I’m not really interested in plays like that. In Wonder Boy there’s at least one impossible stage direction in every scene and it has a real, dazzling bright tone to it. It’s FULL of surprises hopefully. Another critic wrote “You feel his real interest lies in pushing the boundaries of what theatre can do”. Do you agree?

The idea has to be inherently theatrical to excite me. I want to use everything theatre has to offer. Sometimes it’s about metaphor, imagination, nonliteral storytelling, striking images, surprising audiences, FUN and other times it’s about simply changing the temperature of the room, moments of utter vulnerability. Theatre by its very live nature is a very emotional medium; it’s an incredible empathy machine. I don’t know if I’m pushing anything but I know I’m always going to be interested in new ways to tell stories and in the experience not being a passive experience. It should be something which is deeply felt, deeply imaginative and inherently live.

I never read reviews. I guess I’m interested in writing plays which could only ever exist as theatre. 17

有口難言——口吃 It is hard to say, literally: The case of stammering

「我、我、我、我叫、我叫 ……你好 !」若你認識一位新 朋友如此說話,心中多半有點 疑惑,亦有點不知所措 。他名 叫「你好」? 還是不願意透露 名字 ? 為甚麼他對着我不停眨 眼睛 ?《奇蹟男孩》劇中主角 桑尼,面對的困難與上文這位 新朋友一樣──說話口吃 。然 而,口吃到底是甚麼 ?

“My…my…my…my name is… hello!” the person you just met struggles to say. You wonder— while slightly bewildered and caught off guard—is their name “Hello”? Or do they not want to share their name? Why are they blinking at you incessantly? This is a case of stammering, a condition that Sonny, the protagonist of Wonder Boy, wrestles with. But what is stammering, really?

口吃即廣東話俗稱「漏口」, 是一種言語節奏障礙,大部 分患者在說話時會不由自主地 把語音重複及音節拖長,有 些更會在說話中出現不自然的 停頓,甚至用盡所有力氣都 不能把字詞說出來 。嚴重的 更會在說話時出現面部肌肉抽 搐、眨眼及吐舌頭等影響外觀 的徵狀 。口吃的成因目前尚 未有明確定論,但醫學界大 致認同它是一種神經性障礙, 患者的溝通障礙大多在兒時已 出現,當中部分個案的問題 更會持續至成年 。此外,口 吃的嚴重程度因人而異,亦 會隨着時間及溝通場合有所變 化,而每位患者的溝通表現和 徵狀亦不盡相同 。

Stammering, or more colloquially known by Cantonese speakers as lau hau ( 漏口 , literally translated as “a mouth leakage”), is a speech disorder. Most people who stammer repeat and prolong sounds or syllables involuntarily when they speak. Some even struggle with their speech abruptly stopping and often find themselves, despite mustering all their strength, unable to utter a word. Among the more severe symptoms are facial spasms, blinking, and one’s tongue sticking out, which directly affects the speaker’s appearance. While the exact causes of stammering remain unknown, the medical consensus is that it is a neurological condition.

Communication difficulties develop at a young age for most stammerers and such difficulties persist into adulthood for some. The degree of severity varies from person to person and is susceptible to change over time and a variety of circumstances. There is no one set of symptoms or communication behaviours that apply to every case of stammering.

Stammering affects verbal communication, which in turn affects the stammerer’s quality of life, interpersonal relationships and emotional wellbeing. Imagine a student trying to answer a question in class—the agony they feel at being unable to articulate an answer they know by heart, as well as the embarrassment of being gaped at or ridiculed by their classmates. Or imagine how anxious an employee might feel when they were to repeat every word of a sentence throughout a sales presentation. Would the employer take it as a sign of incapability? Would the customers lose confidence in them? Such instances explain why stammering can lead to

shame and dejection for many. Some go so far as to minimise interactions with others to prevent feeling exposed, such as in Wonder Boy, where Sonny would rather have biscuits for lunch than order at the school canteen.

Although a medical cure for stammering is yet to be discovered, there are behavioural therapies aimed at improving speech fluency. Some even succeed in alleviating anxiety resulting from stammering. During such therapies, people are guided by therapists in identifying speech dysfluency and in using various techniques for enhancing their flow of speech. They are also advised to adopt types of augmentative and alternative communication, such as hand gestures, to compensate for fluency problems.

Well known for his hits, “Shape of You”, “Thinking Out Loud” and “Perfect”, Ed Sheeran is a leading English singer-songwriter who has won four Grammy Awards. Despite his worldwide fame and great achievements, Sheeran was bullied as a child, partly due to his stammer. His turning point came when his father bought him an Eminem CD; the young Ed enjoyed the songs so much he sang every lyric. Singing cured his stammer, and Sheeran gradually found his own voice through creating and singing his own songs. Celebrities who stammer 根據不同研究估算,全球約有 百分之十的人口患有不同類型 的言語障礙,而患有口吃的 約為百分之三 。換言之,我 們在日常生活中有很大機會遇 到他們,甚至成為朋友或是 學習和工作上的夥伴 。與言 語障礙人士交流時,我們可以 學習當一位耐心的聆聽者,集 中留意他們的說話內容而不是 着眼於發音錯誤或字句不流暢 (劇中的溫賴特副校長一再強 調這點),更不要打斷對方說 話(溫賴特曾指責魚兒校長不 要打斷桑尼),以鼓勵代替催 促、批評和嘲笑,以開放接納 的態度為他們營造出沒有壓迫 感的溝通環境 。透過這種方式 用心交流,能使言語障礙患者 放下心理負擔,以積極態度面 對困難,大膽發聲表達自己 。

According to studies, one-tenth of the entire population suffers from speech disorders, while 3 per cent of the population stammer. In other words, it is highly likely that these people are among our friends and our colleagues, playing a part in our

daily lives. When communicating with people with speech disorders, we can always learn to be good listeners by doing what deputy headteacher Wainwright in Wonder Boy advocates: focusing on the meanings they are trying to convey instead of the mispronunciation or signs of dysfluency. It is also important to not interrupt them (as Miss Fish does to Sonny when he speaks, which Wainwright berates her for), to encourage rather than criticise or ridicule and show acceptance and openness in creating a stress-free environment for communication. Interacting genuinely in such ways frees people who stammer from their mental burden and allows them to face difficulties with positivity and eventually express themselves fearlessly. 撰文 Written by

Marilyn Monroe was a legendary American actress, singer and model. Six decades on from her death, she remains a huge cultural icon. Her signature works include the film noir Niagara, and the comedies Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire. Monroe’s stammer was caused by childhood trauma and prevented her from delivering her lines smoothly. The most iconic example was when shooting the 1959 film Some Like It Hot, she had so much difficulty pronouncing the word “sugar” that it required 47 takes till she got it right. But it was her stammer that made her voice sound husky and breathy, which became her distinctive trait as one of the most enduring sex symbols.

Sally Cookson trained at LAMDA and worked as an actor for ten years before embarking on a freelance directing career. In the mid-90s she founded the Bristol Old Vic Youth Theatre with Heather Williams, where her passion for directing began.

Max Sutherland is an emerging theatre director based in London. She became deaf in 2018 but continued working as a musical director. A Glasgow-based Singaporean, Ramesh Meyyappan is a theatre maker who develops performances using an eclectic mix of visual and physical theatre styles. Ramesh continually seeks to develop and extend his theatrical visual vocabulary, for example incorporating circus techniques, bouffon, puppetry and illusion within his work. He enjoys the challenge of creating strong narrative visual work. Over the years, his solo performances and collaborations have toured nationally and internationally to over 20 countries, to critical acclaim. He has been nominated five times for Best Actor at the Life! Theatre Awards (Singapore), winning twice. In Scotland he was nominated for a Total Theatre Award for Snails and Ketchup and for a CATS (Critic Award Theatre Scotland) – Best Male Performance for Off Kilter.

布里斯托爾老域劇團 BRISTOL OLD VIC

Much has changed since the Bristol Old Vic first opened its doors in 1766. Technically illegal, the theatre had to disguise its plays as concerts and was forced to conceal its entrance. Today, under the leadership of artistic director, Tom Morris and chief executive, Charlotte Geeves, the Bristol Old Vic enjoys national and international recognition as a theatrical powerhouse, creating ground breaking theatre while nurturing talent from all backgrounds and serving as a cultural beacon for the city and the southwest of England. In September 2018, the Bristol Old Vic completed a two-year multi-million-pound redevelopment project which transformed the front-of-house space, as well as creating a new studio theatre and opening up the Bristol Old Vic’s theatrical heritage to the public for the first time.
