DESIGNING PRODUCTIVE ENVIRONMENTS HKS works with corporate and public sector landlords and occupiers on outcome-based design solutions which are focussed on improving the working environment. With every client we will explore what this means. Our cutting-edge designs are geared towards the prevailing business need for quality, improved productivity and cost effectiveness. Our design approach is highly engaged and participatory with a significant time commitment at the client briefing stage to evaluate design drivers for the desired outcomes. This approach includes dedicated steering group, user group and departmental engagement supported by design workshops and visioning sessions with key stakeholders.
EFFECTIVE USE OF SPACE Through strategic briefing and engagement sessions HKS work with our clients to unlock the potential for improved space utilisation. This is often a pivotal moment in the evolution of a project, for a client to discover through design what the aspirations are for the working culture and for the work/life balance. A move towards collaborative working,
mobile
working,
teaming
and
social
networking environments may be beneficial in this regard but can also drive down space requirements and contribute to greater cost and operational efficiencies. Our participation and engagement can take many forms from the analysis of consolidation strategies across an estate, through to renewal and remodelling opportunities brought about by a lease event or sale.

VIABILITY Many corporate occupiers are consolidating their estates to realise greater efficiencies and value from their existing premises or looking to relocate to reduce occupied space. Technology and the changing nature of the workplace mean that buildings can now be used in more efficient ways with denser planning and incorporating a variety of workplace settings. HKS is well placed to assist in this process. Our specialist design skills can inform strategic
decisions and support the seamless and time efficient transition from strategy to design. We work with our clients to test the viability and potential of their existing or future buildings against a robust workplace strategy and new working practices. Base build audits, building use studies and detailed space planning exercises help determine efficient workplace densities and optimum adjacency criteria.
