Michael P. Pietrzak MD (Mik) has been involved in the design, development and operations of innovative senior living facilities for 15 years. As the former Executive Director of the International Brain Injury Association he developed a keen interest on how the built environment affected the human brain. He is a firm believer that experiences surrounding ones physical environment can dramatically impact the ones feeling of well-being and overall health, ultimately playing a major role in a persons quality of life.
Dr. Pietrzak’s foundation for this philosophy is grounded in science and evidence based design. He participated on the sub-committee for senior living facilities during the development of the 2007 Health Facilities Design Guidelines. He was

As an owner an operator of several facilities in the past he is intimately aware of the needs of the owners/operators and the challenges they face. Mik is committed to the application of the best available science and knowledge to create environments for wellness and quality of life.
Dr. Pietrzak has held several academic positions including Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at Georgetown University, Associate Clinical Professor at George Washington University and Department of Military Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) from 1989 – 1994.
He served on the Facility Guidelines Institute, Guidelines for Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities. He has also served on several committees and working groups providing input to the government on critical infrastructure protection including the Civil Engineering Research Foundation Workshop on Infrastructure Protection for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy 23-24 September 2002 and the Rand Corporation working group for medical infrastructure protection for the Office of Homeland Security.
