Sean Tremblay Accepts New Challenge

Molding The Islanders HC Into Dominant Program Next Up On Coach’s Agenda

Sean Tremblay

T

By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News

he decision to leave the security of that which is known for the uncertainty of the unknown is one not made lightly. It is a challenge Sean Tremblay accepted earlier this year when he stepped away from the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs after more than a decade of unmatched success for the opportunity to be involved in building the fledgling Islanders' Hockey Club from the ground up. "The number one reason I decided to move on to the Islanders was the vision of (Owner) Richard Gallant and the fact he wants nothing but the very best for the players and the entire organization. We share a desire to be the top developmental program in not only the East Coast, but the entire country," said Tremblay, the organization's Co-Director of Hockey Operations and GM/Head Coach of the EJHL team. Lofty goals, to be sure; goals that require patience and unwavering commitment to be attained. "The difficult part will be to allow the process to unfold. Rome wasn't built in a day and our culture will certainly take time to develop. Each

day will be like adding a new brick to what eventually will be a tremendous structure. Getting everyone within the organization to be on the same page and teach our players who we are is an ongoing challenge and one that we all welcome," Tremblay said. Tremblay will draw heavily on his past with the Monarchs -- where his teams won seven Dineen Cup playoff titles, appeared in 10 championship series and captured six EJHL season championships and three National titles -- to map out the future of the Islanders and create an environment of learning about hockey and life and how to be successful in both. "The biggest reason we (Monarchs) had success is our players understood the culture and what it meant to be a part of a team. This is true in all facets of life and for me comes naturally when working with our players. I need to stay true to who I am no matter what happens and believe in our players and our structure. If I believe, then our players will believe. We will be a family first and a team second. We will care more about who we are and what we stand for rather than compromise our integrity for a few extra wins," said Tremblay, HNIB's Junior Coach of the Year in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Early returns suggest the approach is working. With a record of 7-4-0-1, the Islanders began November solidly in the EJHL's Northern Division race with multiple games in hand over the teams ahead of them in the standings. Tremblay said the Islanders possess depth at each position as well as abundant skill and playmaking ability and, most importantly, are playing well as a team. Team scoring leader Mike Doherty (8-1018) of Reading, MA is emerging as one of the league's premier players. Tremblay said Doherty's combination of speed, hands and poise will make him an impact player at Yale.

Meanwhile, Tremblay calls gritty Chris Izmirlian of Highland Beach, FL one of the most complete three-zone players on the team. importantly, are playing well as a team. Still, Tremblay feels this team's best hockey remains ahead of it, especially when it starts to take advantage of the abundant scoring chances it creates. "Special teams have not come close to where they will be at the end of the season. Same is true for scoring goals. Each line has the ability to put the puck away, but have not done so. They have been very close and are generating lots of grade A chances, but when they find the scoring confidence they have the ability to go on a solid run and take off from teams. Some of our better players don't have a goal yet, or only one -- once they get going we will take off," he said. As was the case throughout his tenure with the Monarchs, Tremblay said the intention is for the Islanders to be at the top of their game when it matters most -- in March. "Our staff will continue to teach, our players will continue to learn and we will be a very tough team to play against down the road," he said. As for the bigger picture? "Our goal is to simply develop our players for college and pro hockey better than anyone else and make them better people each day. If we take care of those two things we put ourselves in a great spot to be there in the end. So far it seems to work quite well as many of our past players have had great success in college and pro hockey and there have been some championships along the way," said Tremblay, who has placed more than 100 players in Division One programs during the past decade, producing nine NHL Draft picks and three NCAA AllAmericans along the way.

2012/13 Issue #1 Jr. Hockey Early Review

W

elcome to the first issue of HNIB News in this the 29th year of the publication. Once again our first issue of the season concerns itself solely with Junior Hockey along the Eastern Seaboard. In this issue, we will give you a review on four of the top leagues in the region - the Eastern Junior Hockey League, the Atlantic Junior Hockey League, the Empire League, and the Metro Junior Hockey League All told, those four league encompass 75 different teams. The EJHL has gone through a bit of a makeover this winter, with the Jr. Huskies now the Middlesex Islanders (and with former Monarchs head coach Sean Tremblay now at the helm - see Page 3), the CD Selects now the Connecticut Oilers, and the former Green Mountain Glades franchise now playing as the Portland Pirates in Maine. So far in the early going, it seems like there is a lot more parity in the league. The AJHL has also gone under some huge changes, the biggest of which is breaking off from the Atlantic Metropolitan Hockey League umbrella to form its own entity (Page 16). Under the direction of new Director of Hockey Operations Jeff Nygaard, the league now consists of one 12team division. Longtime franchise the Boston Jr. Bulldogs were sold and are now playing as the Boston Jr. Rangers in Tewksbury, MA. The Empire League continues to flourish and is now 31 teams strong. The Metro League again has 18 teams playing in three different conferences.

League Enjoys A Makeover For 2012/13 Portland Pirates, Connecticut Oilers New Transplanted Franchises

P

By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News

erhaps it doesn't qualify as an extreme makeover but, from coaching changes to franchise shifts, the EJHL has a different look and feel about it this season. The biggest move of them all actually occurred at the tail end of last season when long-time Monarchs' coach Sean Tremblay opted to join the new Islanders' HC (former New England Huskies) in the capacity of GM and coach. That elevated Ryan Frew, fresh off league and National championships with Monarchs' Empire League entry, to head coach of the

Valley Warriors A Force To Be Reckoned With VALLEY JR. WARRIORS Don't be surprised if the Valley Junior Warriors (10-5-0-0) play deep into the post-season this year. For starters, the presence of former Malden Catholic teammates and high-profile Division 1 commits Brendan Collier (BU) and Ryan Fitzgerald (BC) elevates the offense to elite status within the league. Both scored at a point per game clip though the first two months as did Devin Tringale. Nick Pichette, John Needham, Nick Leonard and John Jackson add depth. Goaltending also ranks as a strength, thanks to the tandem of Brendan Leahy (2.62, .925) and Marcus Born (2.35, .931), who notched a shutout apiece as the Warriors built a division best plus-12 differential. The rugged quintet of defensemen Perry Holcombe, Gus Harms, Kollin Schultz, Brett Mason and Marcus Moles has been quite effective at clearing the slot.

three-time defending champion EJ club. Other moves saw the Portland Pirates switch from the Atlantic Junior Hockey League and take over the now-defunct Green Mountain Glades' program. Finally, the Connecticut Oilers bought out the CD Selects, relocated to Norwalk, CT and announced an affiliation with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the USHL. Finally, in a move designed to enhance the league's feeder system moving forward, the EJ announced the creation of its own 13-team AAA 16U Division operating as the Elite Prospects League. Teams will be directly affiliated with and operated by EJHL clubs. On the ice, the battle to attempt to de-throne the Monarchs is well under way. In the North, Peter Masters' perennial contender Junior Bruins began November with a slight lead on the improved Valley Junior Warriors under the direction of Andy Heinze. In all, six of the seven teams in the division were above. .500 through the first two months. In the South, the perennial power Jersey Hitmen of Governor's Academy alum Toby Harris opened a slight lead on Bay State, the Springfield Pics and South Shore Kings. The league will host its fourth annual Winter Showcase from Jan. 4-6 at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, MA. The scouts will be out in droves with 80 programs expected to take part. The A Division will feature all EJHL teams as well as those from the stand alone EJHL South, the AJHL, Prep schools and the CEGEP from Quebec. A look at where things stood as the calendar ran out on October.

Junior Bruins Again Will Be In The Hunt JR BRUINS As always, expect the Junior Bruins (11-5-00) to be knocking on the door before all is said and done. Once again, their overall depth and balance appears to be among the league's best as they seek to improve upon last season's semifinal appearance. Forwards Ryan Cloonan, Alex Brink, Paul Russell, Vitaly Zatsepilin and Kyle Nickerson along with defensemen Kevin McKernan and Mitch Beyer have been the leaders of a wellbalanced offense. Andy Michailidis, Cody Smith, Matt Manzella and Joe De Pietto round out the defense in front of the excellent goalie tandem of Sean Lawrence (2.24, .907, 1 SO) and Matt Penta (1.97, .927).

ISLANDERS HOCKEY CLUB The team defense mentality espoused by coach Sean Tremblay has the Islanders (6-3-0-01) squarely in the mix with multiple games in hand on every opponent. While they aren't scoring much -- yet -- the Isles have yielded a league-low 19 goals. Primary goalie Colton Phinney (.923, 2.20) and back-up Mark Hochman (.960, 1.00) have provided the Isles with stellar play while posting a shutout each. Mike Doherty, Ted McCarran and Chris Izmirlian provide the offensive spark, supplemented by Conor MacPhee, Connor Anthoine, Tyler Whitney and Mike Jamieson. Christian Cordier, Derek Stahl, Ian Rodden, Dakota Ford and Tommy Muratore form the core of a stout defense.

Bandits Need To Get Things Cranking

ROCHESTER STARS Thus far, the Rochester Stars (6-4-0-3) have been the epitome of a .500 club yielding a level goal differential. Front-to-back defense will have to improve in front of keepers Will Massey (2.28, .937) and Derek Shatzer (3.00, .896). They're fronted by defensemen Matt Foubert, Jonathan Neal, Kevin Chilton, Matt George and Travis Walls. The offense has shown ample pop, paced by the trio of Matt Esposito (15 points), Billy Kent (8 goals) and Dan Broderick. Bob Sokol, James Angelicola, Ross Dinan and Tyler Hanzlik have also demonstrated the ability to be reliable scorers as the season plays out.

BOSTON BANDITS Owners of a minus-15 differential through two months, the Boston Bandits (6-9-1-0) need to clamp down on defense in order to rank as a viable contender. Goalies Jake Sofer (2.92, .916) and Ryan Hubbard (.908) have shown themselves to be up to the challenge. Kevin Walters, Jack Burton and Andy Price lead the defense. Chris Burkemper, Matt Salhany and Michael Phillips have emerged as marquee performers up front. However forwards like Kevin Walters and Paul Fregeau need to pick up the pace for the Bandits to increase a meager scoring output that stood at 2.3 goals per game through October.

NH JR. MONARCHS The three-time defending Dineen Cup champion NH Monarchs (5-4-00-1) are adjusting to life without former coach Sean Tremblay and adapting to the ways of new coach Ryan Frew, who led the Monarchs' Empire entry to league and national titles last season. Colgate-bound Derek Freeman, Evan Schultz and Nick Bingaman have emerged as the most consistent forwards in the early going, aided by Steve McKenna and Jeremy Marginsky. Defenseman Tyler Bishop adds long-range offense and is joined in the back end by Patrick Kearns, Dzmitry Daniliuk and Colin MacGillivray. Goalies Zac Rondeau (2.87, .916) and David Jacobson split time.

PORTLAND JR. PIRATES The Portland Jr. Pirates (1-13-0-1) have struggled during the firstt two months of their inaugural campaign as they transition from the Atlantic Junior Hockey League, evidenced by a minus-38 differential that is by far the division's worst. Nevertheless, goalie Tyler Tracy has some solid numbers with a .919 save pct. and 3.15 gaa. Moving forward, the Pirates will rely on continued production from top forwards Haralds Egle, Trevor Fleurent, Brady Fleurent and Tim Searles while developing depth up front. Brad Smelstor, Cam Romoff, Zach White and Sean McTiernan patrol the back line.

Well-Balanced Attack Has Pics Off To Impressive Start SPRINGFIELD PICS The Springfield Pics (8-5-1-0) feature a balanced attack that, as the season unfolds, may well develop into one of the league's most proficient groups. Top 10 marksmen Austin Orszlak (13 assists) and Dan Mele (11 goals) lead the way. Brian Brown, Dmitry Ermakov, Zak Kokosa and Sean Kavanagh are all key contributors. The defense has been relatively sound, yielding just a shade under three goals per outing. Ironman goalie Linus Lundin (2.66, .913, 2 SO) logged all but 60 minutes of net time through the first six weeks. Kavanagh splits time between forward and defense and is joined in the back end by Wade Schools, Anthony Ragone and Greg Browne.

AJHL Moves In A New Direction Junior League Now A Stand Alone Entity By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News

I

n a decision made primarily to enhance its ability to develop and market players for college placement, the Atlantic Junior Hockey League (AJHL) established itself as a stand alone entity earlier this year after nine years under the umbrella of the Atlantic Metropolitan Hockey League (AMHL). Now in its 10th season, the AJHL is managed and governed solely by its 12 ownership groups, boasts a crisp new web site (http://ajhlhockey.pointstreaksites.com/view/ajhlhockey), and is pursuing 501c3 non-profit status. “The ownership groups have done a great deal of work to get the new AJHL up-and-running over the past seven months,” said league Director of Hockey Operations Jeff Nygaard. “They have also created a new set of operating standards, for the future, that will help the AJHL improve on its mission of helping players become NCAA student-athletes.” Nygaard's hockey roots run deep. The former owner and General Manager of the AJHL's Washington Junior Nationals (2006-10) is responsible for the league's day-to-day administrative operations. He is a former Sports Information Director at the University of North Dakota and a former on-ice official. Communications Director Brian McDonough handles day-to-day public and media relations efforts, including maintenance of the web site and overseeing production of the league's weekly release "Cruisin' The Atlantic" and companion video. He is co-founder of USA Junior Hockey Magazine and

has also worked for the ECHL, NAHL and USHL. Veteran NHL on-ice referee Paul Stewart -- the first American-born referee to officiate 1,000 NHL games -- is the league's Director of Officiating, a capacity he also holds for the ECAC (NCAA Division I). Northern Cyclones' owner-operator Bill Flanagan is Chairman of the league's Board of Governors. Flanagan's program was the first group from the Northeast to join the AJHL eight years ago, followed by the former Boston Bulldogs and Walpole Express among others. "The AMHL is a very strong organization, a pretty large controlling entity. However, a lot of the owner/operators are without Junior level operations and we, as a league, wanted to create our own destiny and path," said Flanagan. "It's been a gradual progression. We needed to get USA Hockey approval. And there's certainly no bad blood -- the AMHL is a firstclass, professional organization. We did it because Junior operators have different goals than the Midget and Youth operators.

"We're trying to separate ourselves and raise our standards with college placements of our players as the number one goal," Flanagan pointed out. The word is getting out as evidenced by the 80-plus scouts in attendance at the league's Columbus Day Showcase in Hudson, NH.

"We're excited about how we're doing business -- that's the most scouts we've had at a showcase. Jeff (Nygaard) has been a tremendous help in keeping us involved, Brian has been tremendous help and Paul has the resume and the background to provide us with refereeing at the highest level. Everyone is doing a good job," Flanagan said. Thus far, the league hasn't experienced any of the major pitfalls common with new operations. Flanagan attributes that to the business model. "We'll definitely experience some growing pains along the way. But we have 12 governors in the league, one from each team. We control it and we want to give everyone an opportunity to express themselves and to be involved in the league. Representation is equal -- we all have a say and a stake in this," Flanagan concluded.

THE NORTHERN CYCLONES and Jr.Nationals battle in early-season AJHL action. The league has moved away from under the umbrella of the Atlantic Metropolitan Junior Hockey League and is now a stand alone entity.

Exciting Race Unfolding In Early Going Six Teams Bunched Near Top Of Standings By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News f the first two months are any indication of what's to come, a great race is about to unfold in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League. As October drew to a close, only six points separated the top six teams. Chief among them are the three-time defending champion Walpole Express. After nine years under the umbrella of the Atlantic Metropolitan Hockey League, the AJHL is now a standalone entity. The league is categorized as a USA Hockey Tier III Junior A operation now managed and governed by its 12 ownership groups. The AJHL is now geared toward preparing student-athletes ages 16-20 for collegiate hockey. As it moves forward, the league does so without the Boston Bulldogs and legendary coach Mike Addesa, who sold his franchise to Mario Martiniello. The new Boston Jr. Rangers have shown themselves to be immediately competitive and have gotten off to a strong start.

I

THE WALPOLE EXPRESS won their third straight AJHL title last March. They are amongst the leaders in the early-going this season.

BOSTON JR. RANGERS The Boston Jr. Rangers (9-1-3-0) boast one of the league's top pair of goalies. Top-ranked Samuel Bernhard has been other-worldly, posting three shutouts, 0.83 gaa and .975 save percentage. Fourthranked Brad Rocheville (1.93, .952, 1 SO) has been nearly as good as the Rangers have yielded but 22 goals. The quartet of Shawn Zingler, John Harty, Taylor Fletcher and Garrett Chardon have been rock solid as the Rangers have held opponents to a meager 22 goals. Meanwhile, the offense has shown promise but has yet to hit full stride. Matthew Swett (7 goals), Kevin Airoldi (11 points) and Alan Boozer (6 goals) have been the most effective scorers through the first two months. Forwards Kurt Johnson, Brett Wagner and Vincent Zingarelli will be counted on for increased production as the Rangers work to bump up their modest output of 2.9 goals per game.

New York Bobcats Have Been Solid In All Facets NEW YORK BOBCATS The New York Bobcats (10-3-0-0) have displayed good front-to-back cohesion thus far while compiling a solid plus-12 differential. Ironman goalie David Lynch has been especially impressive while playing all but 16 minutes through the first 13 contests. He has one shutout to go along with a 2.32 gaa and .925 save pct.

He's fronted by a rugged defense that features the quartet of Joseph Rassett, Luke Zocco, Stephen Olson and Dylan Corcoran. The offense is clicking for approximately 3.5 goals per outing, paced by the productive trio of Patrick Schule (10-9-19), Chris Wallace (11 goals) and John Schiavo (12 assists). Joseph Gilhooly (11 points) and Michael Bronzo are emerging as leaders of a supplemental forward group that figures to play a key role as the season progresses.

WALPOLE EXPRESS From a statistical standpoint, the reigning champion Walpole Express (9-2-20) have been the league's most impressive team, leading the league in both goals scored (48) and goals allowed (13). Goalies Kyle Shapiro (1.50, .952) and Nick Commesso (1.20, .950) have been absolutely stellar while combining for a league-high five shutouts. Top defensemen include Jimmy Burns, Krists Kalnins, Zach Hafeman and Nick Masteller. The incendiary offense features three Top 10 scorers and six forwards who have already eclipsed double digits in points. Diverse Eric Salzillo (6-12-18), proven sniper Collin O'Neil (9-8-17) and playmaking David Goff (4-12-16) lead the way. They get plenty of assistance from Niklas Balboa (13 points), Stanton Turner (7 goals) and C.J. Blaszka (11 points).

With rigorous programs in academics, athletics, and the arts, Cushing is an independent, coeducational boarding school for students in grades 9-12 and post graduates, and is located one hour west of Boston.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Looking Good Thus Far WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights (9-4-1-0) have essentially matched Walpole's output to date. Whether they maintain that pace remains to be seen but it seems a strong likelihood with the presence of league scoring leader Jack Ceglarski (9-13-22) and Top 10 scorers Bobby Polachek (17 points) and Erik Moberg (13 goals) in the forward mix. They're joined in the attack by Jason Zaleski (13 points), Craig Skudalski (5 goals) and Gaven LaValley (11 points). Defensemen Tommy Dowell (12 points), Brian Hurlimann, Jeff Alderfer and Gianni Paolo form the core of a group of defensemen who've done a solid job of protecting their end. Mike DeLaVergne 2.52, .914) and Luke Andriuk (2.74, .890) have proven a solid pair in goal thus far.

NORTHERN CYCLONES As is always the case, the Northern Cyclones (8-3-0-1) have entrenched themselves in midst of the race and seem built for the long haul. Coach Bill Flanagan can call on a trio of keepers, including the primary pair of JJ Solloway (2.63, .926, 1 SO) and Josef Nillson (2.79, .889, 1 SO). Dan Bowen has also logged time while the defense features Jonathan Houk, Grant Gallo, Tony Crow, LJ Fellows and Devin Welch. The quartet of Connor Bates (6-10-16), Simon Leahy (6-7-13), Johnathan Felteau (11 points) and Sean Swanson (6 goals) have been the most productive forwards while the defensemen Houk (4-8-12) and Gallo both have proven offensive ability. The Cyclones will look to develop supplemental scoring as the season unfolds.

Nick Belger Wolfpack

Joe Quintana Wolfpack

CONNECTICUT WOLFPACK The Connecticut Wolfpack (7-2-1-1) are playing an exceptional brand of team defense -- hence their plus-14 differential. Top Five goaltenders Gene Lane (1.89, .934) and Spencer Landry (2.18, .931, 2 SO) have been crucial to the minimal number of goals (22) the 'Pack has surrendered to date. They're well-protected by an active defense that includes Nick Owen, Vaughn Guertens, Zach Stein, Rob Belger and Scott Wood. The 'Pack's defensive prowess has allowed the offense to develop at a steady pace. Anthony Beaumont (7-4-11) and Nick Belger (4-7-11) are the leaders to date while Joe Quintana, Vincent Caligiuri, Ben Mariano and Ori Benyami will be counted on for continued improvement.

Titans Need To Tighten ‘D’

Jordan Dempster NJ Titans

Nick Zellmer NY Titans

NJ TITANS The New Jersey Titans (6-8-0-0) clearly have the offense to contend, averaging more than three goals per game. However, defensive deficiencies have them hovering around .500 with a minus-6 differential. Top 10 scorers Marcus Ortiz (13-8-21) and David Ramos (16 points) power the attack. Jordan Dempster (5-7-12), Tyler Ralph and Taylor Cox are among those providing reliable assistance. Top defensemen Nick Zellmer (9 points) and Brendan Conroy (9 points) add to the offense and are joined on the back line by Cam Bregenzer, Chris Pantaleo and Ross Brauer. That group has accounted for 10 goals from distance. Matt Schnoes (3.93) and Caleb Neal (3.99) share time in goal.

Little Flyers Seek Consistency PHILADELPHIA LITTLE FLYERS Should the Little Flyers (3-6-2-2) find a way to pump up their attack, they could develop into a serious contender. At the moment they sit at minus-6. Defense has been a strength with three goalies -- Greg Procopio (2.35 gaa, .913), Landon Trutt (3.15, .904) and Keenan Wallace -- sharing time. Donald Rudd Garrett Gallagher, Dominic Shuttleworth and Kevin Smith form the core of the defense. The offense revolves around a quartet of double-digit scorers -- Sam Manzi (8-7-15), James Bonaguro (8-6-14), Ryan Lohin (4-8-12) and Trevor Gooch (73-10). Developing supplemental scoring is an immediate goal.

PHILADELPHIA JR. FLYERS The Junior Flyers (3-7-2-1) are in a similar situation as the Little Flyers, also playing a solid brand of defense but sitting at minus-9. Lead goalie Dylan Troiano has been outstanding, posting a 2.81 gaa and .908 save pct. in nine appearances. He's backed by Tommy Bay and Scott Brown. A solid defense features the quartet of Quinton Neville, Jim LeNoir, Sean Kacerosky and Joe Heffernan. The offense has yet to produce a player in double digits, led by Aaron Peterson (6-3-9) and Frank Mackin (5-3-8). Thomas Crabtree, Manny Billones and Garrett Quinn have been consistent performers but the Flyers will need increased production to develop into a playoff threat.

NJ Rockets Must Increase Offensive Production Sam Bloom

NEW JERSEY ROCKETS Offense has been a challenge for New Jersey Rockets (3-9-2-0), who averaged a scant 1.7 goals per game through the first two months. Top forwards Brooks Lewis, Jeremy Bracco, Sam Bloom, Jonathan Lee, Travis Geraci and Brandon Fusaro will be looked to for increased production in the coming

months. Four goalies have seen action thus far, with Phil Heinle (2.68, .933) and Stephen East (3.23, .901) both off to solid starts while providing the Rockets the opportunity to win each outing. Len Caglianone, Frank Coscia, William Campion, Daniel Vaysberg and Max Gottlieb comprise the defense.

WASHINGTON JR. NATIONALS The Jr. Nationals (2-12-2-1) face a well-known dilemma. Despite the potential for productive offense, the Nats are at a minus-27 differential. Ryan Gomez (5-6-11), Garrett Stephenson (11 points), Daniel Shirilla (5-5-10), Gordy Bonell (5 goals), Filip Sedivy and Aaron Madsen form the core of what could be an effective attack. The defense will need to tighten up, anchored by Michael Amelio, Connor Lawrence, Ryan Rainville and Ian Patrican. Stanislaw Zhuchin (3.58, .898) and Mitch Collum share time.

LACONIA LEAFS Problems at both ends of the ice have led to a minus-30 differential for the Laconia Leafs (3-9-2-0), who are averaging just 1.7 goals per game to date. Christian Merritt (5 goals) has been the most productive forward and is joined by Steve Zurica, Kyle Kreiner, Nick Turner and Kevin Murphy. Lead goalie Mark Specia has posted solid numbers -- 3.63 gaa, .907 save pct. and one shutout. Matt Howard and Brandon Bechard provide back-up. Defending Champion NH Monarchs Perfect In Early Going

Jr. Bruins, Kings Also Start Fast

By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News

he defending league and National Champion New Hampshire Monarchs (10-0-0-0) took full advantage of a friendly schedule that saw them play seven of their first 10 games at home to breeze through October unscathed. The Monarchs' plus-45 differential is the conference's best, built on the stellar play of lead keeper Cole Burack (1.31, .956), who has two shutouts and is well-protected by defensemen Eric Grover, James Jamieson, Shane Earley and Nat O'Brien. Dylan Palmer provides relief in goal. Offensively, the wealth is spread out across a well-balanced group of skilled forwards. Connor Merrick (4-10-14) and Brent Beaudoin (5-8-13) sit atop the team scoring list while Brett Boyer (7-5-12), Chris Moquin (6-4-10) and Ross Mandigo (6-3-9) are emerging snipers.

THE NEW HAMPSHIRE MONARCHS are the defending Empire League champions.

As is usually the case, the Junior Bruins (103-0-0) can score with the best of them. A half dozen B's have already achieved double digit points, led by forwards Ryan O'Toole (7-8-15), Vince D'Amato (7-8-15), Cam Cottam (4-1115), Anthony Galloway (4-9-13) and Daniel Pastl (3-7-10). Defensemen Bryan Carter (5-611) and Kyle Webb (3-6-9) give the attack a long-range element. The Bruins have been next to impregnable on defense, yielding a meager 1.6 goals per game thanks to the play of three high-end goalies -Ryan Venditi (0.71, .971), Sam Dargone (1.88, .940) and Maxwell Barr 91.91, .936) -- who

have combined for four shutouts. Carter and Webb are joined on the back line by Matthew Brett, Ben Piecz and Paul Martone. The South Shore Kings (9-2-0-1) have relied on a high-octane offense to fuel their fast start and build an impressive plus-25 differential. Evan Jacques (8-12-20) and Daniel Clifford (515-20) drive the attack, joined up front by Philip Falkoff (10-4-14), Beau Starrett (6-7-13), Kevin Divver (6-5-11) and Stephen Rocchio (11 points). Defenseman John Marino adds to the production of five goals per game. (Continued On Page 28)

Eastern Conference: Strong Defense Has Breakers, Pics In The Hunt Yates also leads the team in goals (12) and ranks second in scoring behind forward Ryan O'Donnell (7-17-24). Forwards John Sheehan (4-8-12), Chris Perry (5-5-10) and Antonio Marini and the defenseman Russo (3-912) add to the Breakers' diverse attack. The Springfield Pics (7-2-1-1) don't score much but are well above .500 thanks to their team defense approach. Logan Shinabeck, Zach Prout, Michael Wytrych and Cam Beaulieu form the core of the defense in front of primary keeper Matt Blascak (2.64, .930) and back-up Ian Milosz (.894). Evan Jacques So. The Bay State Breakers (8-2-1-0) have employed the type of lockdown defense that is built for the post-season, yielding just 23 goals to date. Goalies Matt Farrell (2 SO, 1.59, .960) and Paul LaPlante (1 SO, 2.87, .960) have been tough to beat as the foundation of the Breakers' defensive prowess. The defense features Gavin Yates, Nicholas Russo, Henry Nelson and Chris Duffy.

Matt Antonacci (7-10-17), Thane Schinabeck (6-814), Brandon Korytko (5-6-11) and Stefan Koproske (7 goals) have emerged as the most consistent forwards in the early going. Nicholas Sibilia and Mario Fontanella and the defenseman Logan Schinabeck (10 points) are emerging contributors. The early sampling is small for the Boston Bandits (7-2-0-0) but their 5.2 gpg and plus-23 differential are telling. At their current level of play, the Bandits project to be a post-season force. Goalie Ryan McCarthy (2 SO, 2.63, 908) has been outstanding and is backed by Stephane Meunier (2.83). Top defensemen include Matt Grzybinski, Derek Ridgway and Taylor Hale. The offense has been balanced, paced by the one-two punch of forwards Connor Court (9-7-16) and Raymond Wilson (6-7-13). Wesley Monson, Connor Wiggins and Connor Graham have been key contributors and the defenseman Grzybinski (4-4-8) adds to the mix. The Valley Warriors (5-4-0-1) feature a standout trio of forwards in Luke Miller (7-6-13), Brendan Heinze (74-11) and Matthew Culot (6-4-10). Cody Laperle and

Brandon Tuttle are among a secondary group that will be looked to for increased production as the season plays out. The Warriors (minus-6) must improve defensively in order to develop into a viable playoff threat. Top defensemen include Connor Donahue, Andrew Sousa, Mitch Moran and Eriberto Cordero. Matt Saraceno (1 SO) and Evan Eitel (3.64, .912) share the goaltending duties. The fledgling Islanders (3-6-1-2), though showing flashes, have largely struggled through their inaugural campaign. The team has no double digit scorers with David Wilcox (5 goals) and Justin Fisher (5 goals) the most consistent of a forward unit that also includes Chris Maskut, Thomas Missert and Harris Montayne. Michael Kitts (3.52, .895) logs the bulk of the time in goal with Andrew McLeman providing back-up. Alfonso Diaz, Josh Vernot, Brad Anderson and Jake Dickson are the nucleus of a defense that will be working to improve the Isles' minus-16 differential.

Forward Stephan Seeger (5-10-15) and goalie Gryphon Richardson (SO, 2.04, .940) are enjoying strong debut campaigns with the Connecticut Oilers (3-8-1-1). Philip Prins, Ryan Harper, Todd Brown and Chris Santello add depth at forward while David Landau, McKay Flanagan and Mark Leprine have emerged as top defensemen and Zach Geller backs up Richardson in goal. Defense has been a major issue for the Salem Ice Dogs (2-10-0-1), who have yielded nearly six goals per outing while being outscored by 57 goals. Forwards Nicholas Latham (6-16-22) and Bobby Mullins (5-8-13) are enjoying solid campaigns, joined up front by Mike Kelleher and Adam Merry.

Ray Jacques, Chris Minter (3 goals) and Trevor Bettano are the top defensemen in front of goalie Brad Radin. The relocated Portland Pirates (0-12-1-0) have troubles at both ends of the ice; hence their minus-58 differential. Goalies Max Boucher, Chris Storey and Cam Riddle faced an average of 42.3 shots per game through the first two months. Forwards Evan Jewell (4 goals), Justin Munck (3 goals) and Nicholas Whitten (3 goals) have been productive. Nick Robinson, Tim Storey and Ryan Locke lead the defense.

Applecore, Hitmen Set Early Pace

T

By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News

he New York Applecore (11-2-1-0) began November with a slight lead in the division by playing consistent two-way hockey. Goalies Chris Mutschin (SO, 2.45, .927) and Justin Kapelmaster (SO, 2.46, .927) have posted virtually identical numbers while splitting time. An active corps of defensemen that includes Jonas Toupal, Liam Pues, Daniel Basist, Cam Giertych and Andrew Barroso has kept traffic in front to a minimum. Forwards Blake Manginelli (8-13-21) and Jonathan Kaszuba (18 points) have emerged as the leaders on offense. Forwards Cale Schoenberg (7-5-12), James Sharpe (5-5-10), John Stevenson (6 goals) and Andrew DeAngelis and defensemen Toupal (5-6-11) and Pues (4 goals) around out a balanced attack. The Jersey Hitmen (10-4-0-0) are off to a strong start behind an offense that features a half-dozen players already in double figures. Defenseman Cody Calcagno (7-8-15) leads the team in scoring and ranks third among league rearguards. Forwards Matt Langlois (5-7-12), Dylan Stephanik (5-6-11), Robby Marsanico (5-5-10 and Luke Rodgers (5-5-10) and defenseman Joe Masonius (11 points) are staples of the offense. Top goalie Ryan Glander (SO, 2.23, .926) anchors a stout defense that yields only two goals per game. Jordan Hulahan supplies back-up. Sean Johnson (3 goals), Cory Sala and Jonathan Spada join Calcagno and Masonius on an effective back line.

Kevin DiMagno

Michael Whitehair

Contrary to their name, the offense for the Frederick Freeze (10-8-0-0) has been on fire, powered by a pair of Top 10 league scorers -- Logan Coomes (3rd, 9-1827) and Florian Cotera (7th, 8-15-23). All told, eight forwards have already eclipsed double digits, including Reid Bibb (9-10-19), Adam Taylor (10-7-17), Zach Pard (10-5-15) and Richard Novodomec (7-7-14). An intensive 18-game slate through the first two months has revealed some in-zone deficiencies (plus11, 3.4 goals allowed per game). No. 1 goalie Michal Marcinek (3.23, .907) has already played more than 700 minutes. Daniel Dolliver provides relief. Top defensemen are Ian Soifer, Nicholas Price, Adam Gnatowski and Eric Gausseres. Rochester-based Maksymum Hockey (9-4-1-0) has shown itself to be well-constructed for the long haul, combining balanced scoring with sound defense through the first two months. The forward trio of Kevin DiMagno (8-11-19), Michael Whitehair (7-11-18) and Dylan Versage (10 goals) are the offensive drivers with Greg Miller and Seth Giles contributing supplemental scoring. Ian Sylves (2.57, .930) has been solid in goal while Ryan Morey (SO, 1.21, .946) has excelled in limited action. Bryan Carville, Joseph Snook, Austin Harding, Daniel Goldstein and Kyle Gannon are the nucleus of a stay-at-home group of defensemen.

Suffolk Jrs (9-3-1-0) is another club that projects as a seasonlong contender with its close to the vest style. Suffolk (plus-10) limits foes to about 2.6 goals per game behind the goalie duo of Dan Potter (2.60, .924) and Peter Fosso (2.85). Joe Duszak, Chris Stemke, Cam Smith, Mike Gilroy and Donato Cipriano patrol the blue line. A half-dozen forwards have supplied most of the offense, paced by Chris Seeback (6-814), Mike Leone (5-6-11), and Thomas Dunn (4-7-11). Matt Gault (5 goals), Ben Sorkin (4 goals) and Tyler Murphy add to the attack. Based on early returns -- and a plus-31 differential -- expect the Philadelphia Revolution (8-20-1) to be a season-long factor. The Revs have been bolstered in the back by the stellar play of primary keeper Justin Kirk (2.01, .915), who has a pair of shutouts. The defense is built around Travis Kaufman, Joe Kotiarczuk, Ross Asroff, Nick Minerva and Ethan Weiss.

Offense Strong For Syracuse Stars (Continued From Page 37)

Kaufman (4-6-10) and Kotlarczuk (3 goals) also contribute to a welldistributed offense paced by playmaker William Hayden (3-11-14) and Donald Willier (9 goals). Forwards Justin Goldstein, Alex Dyer and Connor Bechtel have combined for 15 goals to date. Offense has not been the problem for the free-wheeling Syracuse Stars (6-9-1-2), who featured the league's No. 2 scorer through October in Anthony Angello (15-13-28). Forwards Mike Seifert (7-8-15), Tyler O'Mara (12 points), Nate Zweig (7 goals) and Jesse Farabee (6 goals) and defensemen Tom Nicholson (5 goals) and Garth Gray (11 points) add plenty of additional pop.

However, despite the best efforts of alternating goalies Matt Schneider (3.07, .934) and Nate Skidmore (3.43, .922), the Stars have been unable to contain opponents. Joey Rutkowski and Ben Engelbrekt join Gray and Nicholson on the back line. Brewster's (5-8-1-2) outside-in offense has seen defensemen account for 16 -- or one-third -- of the team's 48 goals. Team scoring leader Franceso Sherding (7-10-17) ranked second in scoring among league defensemen through October. Top forwards include Sean Henderson (7-714), Mike Benincasa (6-8-14), Brad Alexander (10 points), Kevin McGee and Lukas Znosko. Sherding is joined in the back by Tom Kirincic (5 goals), Peter Petrino and Owen Gatto. Moving forward Brewster needs to clamp down and do a better job of protecting goalies Conor Bunyan and Brandon Belz, who have seen a combined 661 shots (41.3 per game) come their way. The Adirondack Jr. Wings (6-10-0-0) are off to a competitive start. Chet Tooker (3.20, .904) has been the most consistent of four goalies with Crae Messer emerging as a second option. Offense comes from the forward group of Matt Flynn (7-10-17), Sam Vincent (6-7-13), Nick Oda (58-13), Andrew Bourdeau (4-6-10), Cam Shepardson and Shane Kanaly. (Continued On Page 40)

aving proven their mettle early in the season with a number of games against Northern opponents, the Florida Jr. Blades (15-2-0-0) exited October with the league's best record and a plus-42 differential. The Blades' impressive offensive arsenal features league scoring leader Joshua Koerner (21-13-34), playmaking Troy Degler (5-19-24) and sniper Chaise Howard (13-720). Dan Thompson (7-6-13), Jonathan Davidson and Max Cobb add depth. Lead goalie Jacob Carter has posted outstanding numbers (1.40, .940) to go along with three shutouts. Eric Sugrue (2.84) provides quality back-up. The defense is built around the talented quartet of Matt Benolkin, Mike Haskins, Jacob Leonard and Matt Salera. Trailing by nine points is of no consequence to the Atlanta Knights (10-0-0-1), who are unbeaten in regulation and hold six games in hand. As usual, they are playing their usual brand of stifling defense, yielding just 12 goals through the first two months, courtesy of goalies Lucas Thurston (2 SO, 0.76, .966) and Sean Davis

(SO, 1.57, .910). Brad Harley, Kienan Fenton, Alex MacInnis and Cale Massa anchor a defense that yielded only 214 shots on goal in the first two months. The offense has been plenty productive, clicking at a 4.4 goals per game clip paced by Cole Stallard (5-12-17), Pat MacDonald (8-8-16) and Jack Trischett (10 points). Forwards Zach Egan and Nick Elliott and the defenseman Harley have potted five goals each.

Jersey Wildcats Ready For Move (Continued From Page 38)

The defense features the quartet of Cam Kuhl (8 points), Brian Daury (5 goals), David Wilgocki and Matt States. There's not a lot that separates the Jersey Wildcats (5-9-0-1) from the middle of the divisional pack. The offense has proven scorers in forwards Erik Andersson (9-10-19), Cory DeCosta (6-8-14), Geoff Liter (85-13), Lukas Moser (11 points) and Ed Ziegenfuss (9 goals). Brandon Crawley (3-7-10), Ryan Strapp (2-8-10), Chris Sanchez and Zakariya Sheikh are the top defensemen in front of alternating goaltenders Grant Perry (SO, .899) and Gennaro Anzevino, The struggles of the Buffalo Stars (2-9-0-0) can be summed up thusly -- 607 shots on goal, or 55.2 per game, faced by goalies Thomas Brown (.916) and Lawson Fenton. Mike Harris, Kyle Johnson and Angelo Sarro anchor the defense while forwards Pat Schmeizinger (3 goals), John Colvin, Jacob Lezynski, Tyler States and Blake Germony (2 each) lead the offense.

The same can be said of the Florida Eels (8-2-0), who have only played 10 games and held seven in hand on the Blades heading into November. The Eels' strength lies in the attacking zone as they average 5.2 goals per game while exhibiting good balance. Forwards Brian Dennerlein (6-9-15), Keanu Gallegos (9-5-14), Joshua DeLezenne (9 goals), Brandon Hotaling (5-5-10) and Jonathan Carlson and defenseman Pat Daniels (10 points) have been the prime operatives. Marc Terriault (2.98, .930) has been solid while emerging as the top keeper. Ryley Hynes and David Bryant operate in reserve roles. Max Mazzullo, Mike Viera and Ryan Deese join Daniels on a defensive unit focused on chipping away at the Eels' current 3.9 goals allowed average. Can Tampa Bay (7-7-1-0) develop beyond a dangerous opponent simply by outscoring everyone? Possibly but the Bolts began November at .500 with a modest plus-9 differential. Tampa boasts an impressive array of seven double-digit scorers in forwards Roope Hintz (11-11-22), Austin Teall (8-11-19), Ryan Odgers (7-9-16), Brent Barber (8-6-14), Brendan Nicholson (6-7-13), Nichols Reed (3-9-12) and JC Bradley (55-10). Whalers, East Coast Need To Keep Goals Against Down (Continued From Page 40)

The defense has yielded 62 goals and, to contend, needs to improve - dramatically and immediately. Kyle Gertz (SO, 3.62, .898) shares the goalie rotation with Emil Eriksson. The defensive core features Christian Aunspaugh, Kurt Williams, Dylan Longo and Ed Kawczak. The Hampton Roads Whalers (7-6-0-0) have managed to stay above .500 despite a minus-16 differential that points to areas of concern on defense. Taylor Brost has logged all but 128 minutes of the time in goal but Chris Diaz (2.37, .914) has shown promise in limited action. Michael Addison, Zach McDaniel, Grant Phillips and Phoenix Dreer form the top quartet on defense. The Whalers have been productive enough, scoring about four goals per game. Forwards Jonathon Jones (12-11-23), Jeremy Wilson (10-8-18), Nathan Kanter (7-8-15) and Kyle Buchanan (6-8-14) provide the spark. The defenseman Addison (5-10-15) has provided a consistent long-range option. Offense is the least of the East Coast Eagles' (5-9-0-1) problems.

chase horn Space coast

Ben Ferreira Space coast

mitchell Zampetti Space coast

PB Hawks Have Balance They average about five goals per game and feature one of the league's higher scoring duos in Graff Richards (18-8-26) and Jacob Weldon (6-16-22). Forwards Shane Selan (4-7-11) and Kyle Levere (9 points) and defenseman Chris Grosvenor (5-6-11) add to the output. The concerns regard defense as the Eagles surrender an average of 6.5 goals per game. Grosvenor and fellow rearguards Tom Gilmartin, Bruce Chappell and Connor Sheehey need to shore things up in front of goalies Ryan Taylor (3.88), Cory Lignelli and Roman Riselvalto for this team to succeed. As evidenced by their minus-34

differential, the Potomac Patriots (3-9-1-0) require any number of adjustments. No forward has yet achieved double figures although Jack Strycharz (5-4-9), Tyler Nolan (9 points), Micah Dabao (7 points), Miles Miller (5 goals) and Judd Parker (4 goals) form a promising core group. Stabilizing the back end is a primary objective. Four goalies have logged time, including TJ Hollen (4.22, .897) and Pat Anderson. Defensemen Robert Stone, Matt Reynolds, Riley Wanat and Noah Rubin are key components to any improvement plan. Though sub-.500 through their first 10 games, there are signs the Palm Beach Hawks (3-6-0-1) figure to improve as the season unfolds. For starters, a balanced offense produces four goals a game behind forwards Shane Visnick (84-12), Kyle Kohlhorst (5-5-10), Brett Yochum (4-6-10), James Leight (7 goals) and defenseman Joseph Lambert (4-7-11). Meanwhile, the defense provided by Lambert and mates Mason Brinich, Marshall Edmondson and Justin Jones has been stout. One of three goalies -- Adam Silverstein, Stephen Sundberg or David Kutnar

-- must step up and provide a stable last line of defense. The season's first two months have not been kind for the Space Coast Hurricanes (2-14-0-1) who have been outscored by a margin of 3-1 (minus-63 differential). The players who accounted for half of the 'Canes' limited production are now inactive, leaving the offense to Chase Horn (6-8-14), Ben Ferreira, Mitchell Zampetti, Caleb Weesner and John Moran. Nathaniel Grugin and Dalton Francik lead a depleted corps of defensemen. Nick Wayland (4.74, .896) has been the most consistent of four goalies who have been pelted with 657 cumulative shots.

Long Island Royals Come Out Of Gates Fast Jr. Titans, NJ Rockets In Good Shape So Far

U

By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News

ndefeated and largely unchallenged, the Long Island Royals (13-0-0-0) are seeking to reclaim the league title they won in 2011 after falling in the title game last season. A powerhouse offense has produced a league-high 86 goals and a league-best plus-67 differential, driven by forwards Jake Bichko (22-8-30), James Hall (14-13-27) and Anthony Koslow (8-13-21). Zach Zaroba (6-8-14) and Kyle Twining (7-6-13) are also enjoying productive campaigns. Defensemen Joseph Maguire (14 points), Mike Cartwright (11 points) and Mike Fogarty (6 goals) provide long-distance attack options and are joined by Chris Zaverdas in protecting the back end of the ice. Corey Cairo (2.08, .888) and Pat Cavanaugh man the goal.

good use as they attempt to whittle into the Royals' early lead. Lead goalie Joshua Sarlo (1.29, .944) is off to a stellar start while Joshua Creelman is a solid secondary option. Dillon Greene, Pat Dapuzzo, Teddy Wood, Michael Whelan and Charles McAvoy patrol the blue line. Meanwhile, the Rockets have pumped out goals at a better than six goals per game clip. Forwards Jeremy Bracco (9-15-24), Nolan Aibel (8-14-22), Troy Conzo (10-8-18), Chris Gambardella (6-6-12) and Ryan Swain supply the juice up front. The Metro Fighting Moose (6-3-0-0) doubled up opponents through first two months (50-25) and project as a force to be reckoned with. Lead goalie Mike Atwell (2,00, .914) has impressive early numbers and the defense of Matt Meyer, Mike Mangia, Nick Picinic, JJ

Hickey and Tom Doheny is solid. Forwards Paul Vella (9-12-21) and Derek Caruso (7-4-11) are leaders of an offense that spreads the wealth. Consistent supplemental scoring comes from Ryan Cheng, Briah Schehr and James Bobb, all with four goals apiece. (Continued On Page 45)

The run-and-gun Junior Titans (9-6-0-0) have shown the ability to simply outscore opponents but will have to clamp down defensively as the season moves forward. Forwards Nikita Samoylov (17 goals), Andrw Vovk (85-13), Todd Unger (6-6-12) Andrew Yasenchock (11 points) and Ryan Price (5 goals) and defenseman Ryan Burr (4-9-13) have emerged as marquee offensive players. Trevor Ralph (2.29, .905) has been stout in goal with Chris D'Alesso and Joey Licata in reserve roles. Burr is joined on the back line by RJ Steer and Dominic De La Guardia. The defending champion New Jersey Rockets (8-2-0-0) are built for March and figure to put the three games they hold in hand to

Though down in the standings through two months, the New York Saints (5-8-0-1) have shown the offensive skills to compete. Their defensive shortcomings must be addressed to make any substantive move. Forwards Mike Gillespie (9-4-13), Andrew Schauer (9-2-11), Dan Sowinski (6-4-10), Tom Dunleavy and Zach Coppolla lead the offense. The quartet of Tommy Mahoney, Nick Fiorentino, Tyler Garcia and Bill Cullen form the heart of the defense. Tyler Stark and Matthew Lipsky split time in goal. Lack of offense has caused the WB/Scranton Junior Knights (49-0-0) to struggle despite the impressive performance of pri-

mary goalie Dan Ernandes (2.91, .902). Ean Hibian, Robert Morrison, Connor Dillon and Colin Morrissey comprise the nucleus on the back line while Nate Gleidman backs up Ernandes. Top forwards are Chandler Yakimowiz (4-7-11), Dustin Mattern (4 goals), Anderw Bobynsky (4 goals )and Alexander Gregorich.

Solid Debut For Jr. Rangers By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News

T

he Boston  Jr.  Rangers (8-3-0-2) are off to a fast start in their debut campaign. Forwards Greg Stoya (13 goals) and Togo Kaaneko (14 points) lead the offense. Forwards Mike Russo (8 goals), Cam Smith (10 points) and Joe Baglio (8 points) and defenseman Matt Kelly (8 points) add to the attack. Three goalies have seen time with Jared Dauphinais (2.00, .922) getting the bulk of the work, backed by Dylan Knox and Sean Danahy. Kelly is joined in the back by Erik Allard and Mikio Minobe. The performance of that group will be crucial to the Rangers' ability to sustain their early momentum moving forward. Sound defense has been the calling card for the Connecticut Wolfpack (9-5-0-0), who have allowed the division's fewest goals (34) and own its best differential (plus-13). Bryan Schod (2.33) and Kyle Carducci (1.25) handle the goaltending, fronted by key defensemen Tom (Continued On Page 46)

Conn. Wolfpack, Northern Cyclones In The Running (Continued From Page 45)

Brunski, Jacob Kinsman, Anthony Astorino and Will Gaspar. The trio of forwards Nick Amarone (14 pts), Machlan Sawden (11 pts) and Connor Jones (11 pts) have emerged as the leaders on offense. Tyler Hines (5 goals) and Rich DeCarlo (4 goals) provide supplemental scoring. As usual, the Northern Cyclones (7-50-1) have demonstrated their offensive prowess, clicking for a shade more than four goals per game. However, they've surrendered nearly an identical number. Forwards Drew Carriere (17 pts), Jimmy Madigan (15 pts), Devin Murray (9 pts) and Nicholas Chen (7 goals) are proven scorers. Tanner Saucerman, Tyler Fay and Mike McDaniel have all logged time in goal. Top defensemen include Shane Branca, Nicholas Leface, Chris DeVincent, Federico Lacedelli and Cam Choate. The Walpole Express (7-9-0-0) hovered around .500 as the calendar turned to November but will need to address a leaky

defense that allows 4.6 goals per game in order to improve. A productive offensive attack features forwards Stas Kolotvin (16 pts), Sean Hess (13 pts), Desmond Gagne (11 pts), Ryan Tachikawa (11 pts) and Trevor Simonson (5 goals).

ound in all phases from back to front, the Central Penn Panthers (11-4-0-0) seem well-constructed for a deep post-season run. Primary goalie Benoit Niclot's (1.57, .931) stellar play has anchored the Panthers' strong start while Mike Degaetano has perform well in a reserve role. The defense is deep and adept at both ends and includes Greg Zieglar, Jacob Leamer, Austin Dittenhafer, Voight Demeestr, Logan Hockley and David Desario. The offense features five talented forwards in Dominic Brenza (13-7-20), Jordan Klimovsky (8-10-18), Richie McCarthy (6-5-11), Chris Dyer (4-7-11) and Rudy Carson (5-5-10). The high-powered Richmond Generals (11-2-0-0) began November ranked second only to Long Island in goals scored (76) and differential (plus-65). Eight forwards have scored at least 10 points with Steven Valva (13-12-25), Zach McKown (11-12-23) and John Ballard (17 assists). Jay Croop (7-8-15), Dillon Balsamo (7-6-13), Matt Burton (11 points), Dana Arnold (10 points), Spencer Tamler (10 points). The play of goaltenders Kristaps Nazarovs (0.50, .979) and Yoshihiro Kurowa (0.80, .970) has been off the charts. Defensemen Will Wickersham (11 points), Diego Wilson (10 points), Kevin Cortivo and Cole Nichols do a bang-up job of protecting the keepers. (Continued On Page 47)

Andrew Beda (2.25) has been the most consistent performer in a goalie group that also includes Stuart Perry and Cam Massie. Shayne Smith, Sean Feyler, Chance Rickel and Andrew Holt patrol the blue line. At minus-9 and allowing a respectable 3.7 goals per game, the Cranston Reds (4-7-0-2) aren't missing by much. Brandon Cava (2.71, .894) has been solid in goal, backed by Jake Toback. Cam Iadeluca, Zack Moran, Ryan Amalfitano and Kyle Sedgley form the core of the defense. Paul Filippone (5-8-13), Daniel Harrington (48-12), Andrew Etheridge (4-8-12) and Dominic Grillo (6 goals) are the most consistent forwards for an attack that seeks to improve its output in the coming months. The Laconia Leafs (2-10-0-1) have been up against it from the get-go, scoring fewer than two goals per game while yielding nearly five for a minus-34 differential. Garrit Otten (6 goals), Scott Vogelgesan and Peter Twining have been the most effective forwards. Defensemen Edison Elder, Daryll Cahill, Fischer Sutherland and Josh Gresko provide the protection for goalies Austin Gryca and Lucas Thatcher.

Little Flyers Hold Third (Continued From Page 46)

Defensive deficiencies have seen the Philadelphia Little Flyers (5-9-0-0) outscored by a 2-to-1 margin. Connor McNamara (11-9-20), Justin Nugent (6-9-15), John Kowalewski (5-9-14) and Brandon Spognardi have been the Flyers most effective forwards in the early going. Alexander Tan (4 goals), Mike Melso, Cody Savage and Paul Napierkowski form the core of the defensive unit in front of goalies Andrew Depuy and Matt Vesper, who share equal time. Improved offensive production could trigger upward mobility for the New Jersey Renegades (3-7-1-1). Exiting October, Cody Williams (16-7-23) had accounted for exactly half of the Generals' goals and no other player had achieved double figures in scoring. Forward Dan Bellafiore (6 goals) and defenseman Brandon Fishman (3 goals) were the only other players with more than two scores. Fishman, Zach Kosciolek and Kyle Haren have been the most effective defensemen. EJ Gordon logs about half the playing time in a three-goalie rotation with Ryan Helton and Luke Frawley. The Philadelphia Jr. Flyers (3-8-0-1) find themselves squarely behind the 8-ball despite some pretty effective work by primary goaltender Mike Durofchalk (.892), who gets most of the time ahead of Tommy Bay and Mike Amoroso. George Garris (3 goals), Alex Cortellessa and Liam Lansang have been the most effective defensemen. Evan Delcasale (6-6-12), Charlie Ricard (8 points), Kyle Daly (4 goals) and Vojtech Luz (5 goals) pace the offense. Little has gone well for the Washington Jr. Nationals (2-10-0-0) as evidenced by their minus-52 differential. Goalies Travis Greeley and Michel Devynck have held up relatively well despite facing a combined total of 471 shots. Forwards Jacob Thomas (4-4-8) and Aaron Handa (6 points) and defensemen Sean Devarennes (4-3-7) and Jared Wierbowski (3 goals) have been the most consistent players. With 10 goes as a group, defensemen have accounted for almost half of the Nats' output.
