elcome players, parents, college scouts and fans to Hockey Night in Boston’s 21st annual Girls Summer Showcase, a top-flight tournament consisting of players from over 20 different states and Canada Last summer’s tournament saw TeamOne repeat as champions, blanking Minnesota, 3-0, in the title game, the second straight year they knocked off Minnesota. This year’s Showcase will certainly boast some exciting up-and-down action, as the Showcase will again field 9 teams competing for the 2015 championship: Massachusetts Preps, Massachusetts Public/Catholic, New England, Northeast, Minnesota, Mid Atlantic, Shamrocks, Eastern and a new entry, Central Each team will play four first-round games, before the playoff rounds begin on Friday, August 7th. Each team will get two playoff games determined by their positioning in the standings after the four first-round games. The top four teams will enter in semifinals and vie for the Girls Summer Showcase title.

HNIB’s 21st Annual Girls Summer Showcase Welcome Players, Parents, Scouts With the amazing growth womens hockey has seen, HNIB decided in 1995 to add the Girls Summer Showcase to its summer activities. 2015 marks the historic 41st year of HNIB’s nationally-known boys tournament, which will be completed before the womens tournament got underway. The Minnesota entry consists of a group of top high school age players from the state. This summer, the team will have a new coach behind the bench, with former Boston College player Gen Richardson taking over the reins. The Massachusetts Preps idea was born six summers ago as a team was put together consisting of a majority of players who either live or play prep hockey in Massachusetts. The team won the crown each of its first two years and reached the finals three summers ago. This year’s outfit will again be guided by Jenelle Ries of nearby Brooks School. The same formula held true for Frank Pagliuca, the coach of Massachusetts state high school power St. Mary’s of Lynn, who has put together a solid club representing the Massachusetts Public/Catholic schools for the sixth straight summer. Under the guidance of Bob Rotondo, his organization, the Boston Jr. Shamrocks, has come up with players from his multi-tiered organization to form the Shamrocks team, to be coached this summer by Molly Corl. On the weekend of June 5-7 a camp festival was held at the Valley Forum in Haverhill, MA, where three teams were finalized. The coaching staff of Corey Cooper from Proctor Academy, Courtney Sheary from Cushing Academy, Pagliuca, and Lawrence Academy’s Kevin Potter finalized the New England, Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic entries. Arlington Catholic head coach Maggie Taverna will coach the Mid Atlantic entry, Sheary will man the Northeast bench, and Cooper will be the coach of Team New England. Now in its second year into the HNIB Girls Showcase is Eastern, put together by coach Potter at Lawrence Academy. The team should be competitive right away. This summer’s newest entry, Central, was constructed and will be coached by Kevin Zifcak, the head coach at Worcester Academy. Zifcak should have some exciting talent to keep an eye on this August. HNIB wishes good luck to all the teams. Please have a fun tournament of competitive hockey.
- On The Cover This year’s HNIB Girls Summer Showcase Magazine cover was shot at the main retail store of TSR Hockey, located in Salem, NH. TSR is one of HNIB’s tournament sponsors and runs the pro shop located at the Haverhill Valley Forum, home of the Girls Summer Showcase. Four talented female players grace the cover of this year’s publication. Pictured (l to r) are Ali O’Leary, who won a Mass. D-1 Girls state title with Reading High School this past season and will play again this summer for the Mass. Public/Catholic club; she will play here senior year with the Shamrocks U-19 squad, Amanda Conway, a record-setting scorer for her Tewksbury/Methuen team that will take a post-grad season with the Shamrocks U-19 squad as well, the team she will play for this summer, Worcester Academy’s Timary Malley, who will play with the Central team, and Mass Public/Catholic defenseman Caroline Seibold, who backboned that Reading title win, * Some teams may have added players to their rosters after this publication went to print

ach year the HNIB Girls Summer Showcase endeavors to bring together the premier players from the high school, prep and Junior ranks. This year’s 21st annual event includes standouts from across the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions as well as Minnesota.
Two-time Middlesex League Liberty Division MVP Ali O’Leary poured in 41 goals and amassed 65 points as a junior, helping Reading capture the Massachusetts Division One State Championship. She is leaving Reading to skate for the Shamrocks this winter, but will play again this summer for Mass. Public/Catholic for the third straight August. (Continued On Page 23)

O’Leary Will Move On To The Shamrocks For Her Senior Year (Continued From Page 22)
“It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make to leave Reading, but in order to get the most college exposure possible I knew that the Shamrocks was the right choice. It’s a high level of competition and I know that it will help me improve my game,” O’Leary said. She said the feeling of winning a State title was “almost indescribable.” “When hard work finally pays off it is so rewarding. It is something I’ll never forget; being able to accomplish a dream with the best teammates I could ask for,” she said.
O’Leary says her improved speed has enabled her to read and react, to find open space and make quick decisions. She is working to improve her shot and is making a concerted effort to drive the net more consistently. O’Leary admires U.S. Women’s National team stalwart and two-time Olympic Silver Medalist Meghan Duggan of Danvers, MA. “I recently met her at a camp and I think she has great mentality. She works so hard and it really shows on the ice,” O’Leary said. O’Leary says her improved speed has enabled her to read and react, to find open space and make quick decisions. She is working to improve her shot and is making a concerted effort to drive the net more consistently. She likes the make-up of the Mass. Public/Catholic squad and anticipates a strong showing this week. “There are a lot of very talented players on Massachusetts’s public and Catholic teams. We are strong at forward and defense and especially our goaltending,” she said. “I would love to win the tournament and get some college coaches attention.” O’Leary will continue to attend Reading High while skating for the Shamrocks with the goal of playing in college. “I hope to have a successful year with the Shamrocks, continue to do well in school, and continue to work toward my goal of playing college hockey,” O’Leary said. “I have not committed yet, but I hope to this summer or at the beginning of my senior year. I am keeping my options open at this point.” She is interested in studying either Athletic Training or Physical Therapy. (Continued On Page 24)

Reading’s Seibold A Solid 2-Way Blueliner (Continued From Page 23)
The top defenseman for Reading’s State Championship team this past season, Caroline Seibold teams with O’Leary one final time this week with the Mass Public/Catholic squad.. Siebold launched eight goals and had 28 points for the Rockets en route to a State title. “There really are no words to describe winning the State Title. It was the best feeling ever. From the very start of our season, winning a state title was our goal. When it finally happened, it was just the greatest feeling in the world. We accomplished that goal as a team. Being extremely close both on and off the ice was a big part of our success,” said Seibold, who
matched her brother Mike’s 2014 State Championship with the Reading boys. Playing with more confidence as the team’s most experienced defenseman, Seibold’s game expanded last season. I became a stronger offensive defenseman [and] … I enjoyed helping my teammates improve their game. I expect Reading to continue to play competitively [this season]. With a solid group of freshman coming in, hopefully we will go deep in the tournament,” she said. She admires Chicago Blackhawks’ star Jonathan Toews “because he is a humble leader and has high-end talent.” Seibold cites her vision, her ability to deliver strong breakout passes, and her
work ethic s strength. She is working to improve both her speed and the quickness of her release. “I give 100 percent whether it’s a practice or game. I am dependable, supportive, and a good teammate. I am a stay at home, consistent defenseman,” she explained. She is looking forward to skating with Mass. Public/Catholic this week. “I have a good feeling about this team. I know most of the girls, having played with or against them. This is a talented group. If we work well together, we should go far in this tournament,” she said. “With my senior year starting next month, I hope to gain exposure for college.” She will also play this fall for the Boston Junior Eagles in advance of her final high school season. She has not made a college commitment but is interested in NESCAC and ECAC Division 3 schools. She plans to pursue a Business degree.
Prolific Scorer amanda Conway Hard To Stop The most prolific scorer in the annals of Massachusetts’ girls hockey, Amanda Conway, poured in 88 goals for the Tewksbury-Methuen co-op team last winter, shattering the record of 66 goals she had established as a junior. Yet, she wasn’t satisfied. “It’s a great accomplishment for me personally, but I would have liked to take my team farther in the state tournament,” she said. After playing for Mass. Public/Catholic last summer, Conway shifts over to the Shamrocks, where she is a PG this coming season and is eager to get started with the next phase of his career. “The Shamrocks have a great team and I'm looking forward to this upcoming season. I am excited to travel and play teams I have never played before. This gives me the chance to play against higher competition than I have prior played against in my life,” she said. Conway said she improved in all facets of the game last season, particularly back checking and passing. Her explosive first step and great vision go trigger her offensive prowess and she marvels at Patrick Kane’s “amazing hands” and his knack for always being in the right place at the right time in the offensive zone. “My back checking has always been a weakness for me. Last year, I worked on it a lot more and I hope to improve it even more this season,” she said. What does she think of the Shamrocks’ prospects in this tournament? “We have put together a great group of girls and I think we will do well, but we will have to wait and see,” Conway assessed. “ I hope to gain more playing time with my team for next year and work on my back checking. Playing in the Showcase helps me gain more experience.” Conway said playing Division One college hockey “has always been a personal goal for me ever since was a little girl.” “Hopefully, I will be committed halfway through the season. I would love to play in Hockey East,” said Conway, who is considering pursuing a degree in Athletic Training. The talented scorer was one of the Top Forward award winners last summer at HNIB. Central’s Malley Comfortable At Forward Or Defense (Continued From Page 25)
A versatile senior captain, Central’s Timary Malley can play either forward or defense and is coming off strong season at Worcester Academy, a Division Two prep playoff team that racked up 18 wins last winter. “Last year we had our most successful season and this upcoming season we look to start strong and build on that success. We have many talented and skillful returning players, as well as numerous recruits who will play an important part in helping us reach our goals,” Malley said. She looks forward on an increased leadership role as a captain. “Many of the younger players look up to the seniors and with that comes a lot of responsibility,” she said. She said that playing both forward and defense aided her development. “My overall game improved greatly. I was able to broaden my physical and mental skills. My skating and thinking on the ice improved immensely,” she said. The Boston Bruins’ three-time Selke Award winner Patrice Bergeron ranks as her favorite player. “Not only because of his skills as a player, but how he sacrifices himself for his team, as well. Bergeron always gives 100 percent no matter what happens, like in the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs when he played with numerous injuries. He is a strong player in all three zones and is tremendously consistent in the circle, winning more than half of the faceoffs he has taken. He
has been someone I’ve idolized for many years,” Malley noted. Among her strengths, Malley cited her vision, physicality and slap shot. She is working to improve her shot accuracy, onetimer, and stick handling. She is eager to take the ice with Team Central this week and will use the Showcase as a springboard to the coming season. “Team Central will stack up well against the highly talented teams in the Showcase. We have a lot of skilled players throughout the entire roster and I look forward to seeing how we do,” she said. “I hope to improve upon my on-ice skills and to create a solid base to start the season.” She will continue to work on her game following the Showcase, especially on her strength and footwork. She is keeping her options open regarding college. “I have not committed yet, but I am hoping to do so by February or March. I am very interested in a few Division Three schools, as well as some Division One schools. I am leaning more toward Division Three, but if an offer from a Division One school comes around, I will definitely look into it,” she said. Malley is interested in Biology, Physical Therapy and Physical Training as possible fields of study.

new team to the HNIB Girls Summer Showcase is Central, put together and coached by Kevin Zifcak, the head coach at Worcester Academy, a top Mass. D2 prep program. defense. Junior Taylor Brown, from North Easton, MA, is another of the Hilltoppers stable of proven forwards. Also from the prep school ranks comes junior Jessica Adams, out of St. Mark’s and Holliston, and sophomore Melissa Alexander, a Bellingham, MA native who skates at Northfield Mt. Hermon. By Gary Demopoulos • HNIB
t will be year two of the Eastern squad in the HNIB Girls Showcase and this summer promises improvement over last August’s baptismal. Back once again to coach the club is Kevin Potter, the head coach at Lawrence Academy, a well-known prep program in Massachusetts. The team boasts a good mixture of players from prep, club and high school programs. Returning up front from last summer’s team are senior
Jordan Monbouquette and junior Emily Lanci, who both play for coach Potter at Lawrence Academy. Senior Allison Sugar, a Connecticut native, plays her winter hockey at the Berkshire School. Junior Missy Segall was a key part of a New England D2 prep title team at Rivers School. Also coming from Connecticut is junior Mya Berretta, who skates for both The Gunnery and the Polar Bears. Sophomore Abbey Luth is an offensive catalyst for the Portsmouth Abbey School in Rhode Island.

zation. Same goes for senior Taylor Johnson, a native of Newbury, MA. Playing both for Arlington HS and the Shamrocks on the blue line are the senior duo of Margaret Kelly and Ysabela Breen. Sophomore Danielle Peterson, the twin sister of forward Caroline, will be a force in the defensive zone. Junior Meghan Galanos of the Shamrocks full-season program is a returner to the Showcase. In goal, senior Antonia Gardner also saw some HNIB action last August with a different club. Fellow senior Jessica Strack backboned Readng High’s run to a Massachusetts D1 Girls state title, not allowing a single goal in four post-season starts. Page 33

he Massachusetts Preps entry, comprised almost entirely of players either in or heading to play prep hockey, will be the youngest team in the Showcase. Returning coach Jenelle Ries has decided to go with some young guns ready to show their stuff against their older counterparts. The lone junior on the club is North Carolina native Sydney Collins, a talented forward bound for the Northwood School
prep program in Lake Placid. Hannah Walsh is already a very experienced player, even though she is just a sophomore. Sophomore Caroline Cutter (from Byfield) and freshman Caroline O’Keefe (from Winthrop) both hope to contribute right away at Brooks School. Two other youngsters to keep an eye on are the freshmen duo of Maddie Bayard and Shannon Bucci, both ready for the world of prep school hockey at Nobles and Taft School respectively.

Sherborn, MA native Emily Batchelor will try to crack the lineup at Phillips Andover this winter. Freshman Kylie Quinlan expects to see some good ice time for both Middlesex School and the East Coast Wizards program. Alisa Canney has shown a deft scoring touch and takes her talents to Northfield Mt. Hermon after a solid freshman season at Burlington HS. Sophomore Courtney Hardy, a native of Medford, will be in the offensive mix as well. Sophomore Grace Parker gets the job done offensively during the winter at Holderness School. Defensively, no less than three blue liners call the city of Marblehead home. All are bound for freshman seasons at area prep schools. Brooke Keough heads to Phillips Andover after a huge campaign at Marblehead HS. Amanda Monahan, on her way to Brooks, was a strong rearguard as well for the Magicians.

Scoring Prowess Should Be A Key

oasting many of the premier players from the Public/Catholic school ranks in Massachusetts from this past winter, the Mass. Public/Catholic entry should be highly competitive, as it was last summer. Back again to coach the club is Frank Pagliuca, the head coach at St. Mary’s of Lynn. Reading HS won the Mass. Division I state title this past season and that dominant team’s top two scorers will lace ‘em up
for Mass. Public/Catholic. Senior Ali O’Leary, a two-time Middlesex League MVP, is an impressive offensive talent who moves on to the Shamrocks junior program in the fall. Senior Tori Grimmer will be back to lead the Rockets title defense. The Beverly/Danvers co-op is another solid program and sends two of its top offensive talents in senior Kristen McCarthy, an HNIB returner, and junior McKinley Karpa, making her HNIB debut.

Defensive anchors for Mass. Public/Catholic should be senior Caroline Seibold, who backboned the Rockets run to the crown, leading a defense that allowed no goals in the post-season, and fellow senior Olivia Bryant of Lexington HS, who also played in the Showcase last summer. Arlington Catholic is represented by a pair of solid rearguards in sophomore Erin Kelley and sophomore Tia Martignetti, who also play for the Junior Eagles program. Senior rock Vanessa Van Buskirk returns to the lineup and is the cornerstone of the blue line at St. Mary’s. Junior Lily Mallard leads the defense at perennial power Woburn HS. The goaltending will be solid. Senior Caty Flagg is an AllScholastic performer from Austin Prep and played in goal for Mass. Public/Catholic last summer. Senior Cali Loblundo helped lead her Acton-Boxboro team to the Garden and Mass D-1 state final last winter. Page 37

layers from eight different states dot the roster of this year’s Mid-Atlantic squad, which made it to the semifinals last summer. The team will have a new face behind the bench in Maggie Taverna, the head coach of the very successful Arlington Catholic (MA) program. The nucleus of the Mid-Atlantic forward contingent all notched HNIB Showcase experience last summer.
Senior Michaela McLaughlin will be well known to coach Taverna, as she plays for her at Arlington Catholic. Senior Amanda Piknick hails from the solid Barnstable High (MA) program. Three juniors returning include Isabel Hill, a New Hampshire native who skates at Kimball Union, Kim Carroll, who helped lead Haverhill/North Andover to a solid playoff run, and Gabriella Floramo from Austin Prep.

Experienced Club Solid In All Areas T By Gary Demopoulos • HNIB
eam Minnesota is always amongst the favorites here at the HNIB Girls Showcase and this year should be no exception. The team will have a new coach behind the bench, though, as former Boston College player Gen Richardson, who now works with playitforwardsport.org, will call the shots. A pair of seniors will be asked to lead the club up front. Isabel Bianchi comes from the well-known program Academy of Holy Angels and will be tough to stop, as will Jordan Anderson from New Prague HS, who returns from last sum-
mer’s Minnesota lineup. The Academy of Holy Angels also sends up-and-coming junior Mary Kate Eiden. Fellow junior Maddie Kolbow, from Wyoming MN, plays her hockey for Forest Lake HS. Eden Prairie HS is well represented at forward with the talents of junior Emily McLaughlin. Junior Maddie Lapanta, from the hockey hotbed of Faribault, MN, is a key scorer at Northfield HS. Benilde St. Margaret’s is always one of Minnesota’s top high school programs, so expect junior Grace Peluso to be involved offensively in a big way here.
