here certainly is no scarcity of talented teams in the Boys Prep School ranks this winter, which will make for some exciting hockey as teams go first to win their respective leagues, and then hope to qualify for a post-season berth. Unlike other teams, Salisbury's focus is not only to win the Founders League, but defend the Elite Tournament it has taken the last two seasons. Since the road to any potential Elite Tournament title has to go through Salisbury first, the Crimson Knights (24-1-4) will start the season in the same position they ended last winter, #1 in the HNIB News Boys Prep Top 15 poll. Coach Andrew Will's club did lose some firepower and last year's starting goalie, but do return four senior defensemen and some top offensive players like Vinal Sukumaran, Kale Kane and up-and-coming junior Michael O'Leary. The Founders League boasts several of these squads, like defending Large School Tournament champion Loomis Chaffee (15-10-3), which boasts no less than five Division I commitments in its lineup, always-tough Kent (20-41), which needs to overcome the loss of 13 seniors, Choate (17-8-3), a veteran club with 12 seniors in its lineup, and Westminster (12-11-3), with talent in all three positions. In the East, both Cushing (22-10-0) and Nobles (20-7-1) could put big numbers up on the scoreboard, as they have potential frightening offensive attacks. Dexter (23-5-2) may boast the prep's premier player in senior Ryan Donato, a second round draft pick of the Boston Bruins and a Harvard commit. Despite some key losses, expect Thayer (20-5-1) to be in the hunt with the dynamic duo of Lincoln Griffin and Monte Graham. Phillips Exeter (23-53) will be its usual tough self. And don't forget about Gunnery (227-1), which has reloaded in a big way after losing its top seven scorers from last winter.

T

he 2014-15 Prep School hockey season is already underway on some fronts, and will begin in earnest across the Northeast beginning just after Thanksgiving. On the boys side, the race to crown the eventual three New England champions promises to be an exciting one. Champions will be crowned in the Elite, Large School and Small School divisions. Powerhouse Salisbury, a twotime defending champion in the Elite Tournament, has set its eyes on a third straight New England title. The Crimson Knights, although losing some talented players, have restocked nicely and will begin the season with the HNIB News Boys Prep #1 ranking. But, there are numerous other talented teams ready to show what they have in the race for the eight coveted Elite Tournament berths. Loomis Chaffee, which won the Large School title a year ago, will make a serious charge to an Elite berth with no less than five D-1 commits on the roster. In Girls Prep School hockey, defending New England Division I champ Westminster will face stiff competition in its quest for another crown. Perennial power Nobles wil be right there, and we also expect a veteran Loomis Chaffee team to be around as well. Two-time defending Division II champ Gunnery begins the year with a new head coach in former Brown star Paul Baier. Founders Title Up For Grabs Loomis Will Challenge Salisbury, Kent Choate Returns 12 Seniors

erenially one of the top, if not the strongest, prep leagues in New England, the Founders League will certainly have its share of talented clubs this year. Start with two-time defending New England champion Salisbury (24-1-4). The Knights lost a lot of offensive firepower to graduation, but return four solid defensemen and have two more-than-capable goaltenders ready to go. Seniors Vimal Sukumaran (33 pts) and Kale Kane (31 pts) will be anchors of things offensively for coach Andrew Will. Also back and ready to contribute heavily are junior Mike O'Leary, already committed to Cornell, senior Sean McCarthy, junior Anthony Vincent and junior Dante Latessa. Four returning senior defensemen - James Gobetz (15 pts), Quincy Gregg, Ray Seebeck and Brett Stirling - will keep opponents honest. In goal, look for post-grad Bailey MacBurnie (St. Mary's, MA) and returning sophomore Nick Sorgio to battle for time. Loomis Chaffee (15-10-3) caught fire down the stretch last winter and won the New England Large School title. They won't be able to sneak up on anyone this season, with no less than five Division I commits in the lineup, including forwards Ben Sharf (Colgate), Alex Esposito (Vermont), Eric Esposito (UNH), and defensemen Zach Giuttari (Brown) and Jacob Bryson (Providence). Senior forward Eric Benshadle and senior defensemen Sean Ross and Colin Merrill are also key returners for coach J.R. Zavisza. New junior Tim Biarelli will battle for the goaltender’s job. To say Kent (20-4-1) will be a new-look team will be an understatement, as graduation saw the departure of 13 seniors, including 10 forwards. The Lions do return four defensemen, so that will be a strength. Senior captain Keanu Hilaire backbones a group that also includes junior Greg Krisberg (26 pts), junior Kyle Delmaestro and Josh Hardiman. Returners up front that need to provide leadership are senior Max Kaufman (34 pts, Vermont commit), Andy Provost and Satchel

Clendenin (10 pts). Coach Dale Reinhardt also welcomes several talented newcomers up front. Kent will look to newcomers Jackson Norris (junior) and Peter Negron (sophomore) to take on the netminding duties. With 12 seniors on the roster, experience won't be a problem for Choate (17-8-3). It certainly will be a plus, as will having two accomplished goaltenders. Coach Pat Dennehy says team defense will be important. One key forward to look for will be senior Jeremy Germain (36 pts). Seniors Turner Uppgren (10 pts), Nick Sanchez and Charley (Continued On Page 7)

Avon Old Farms Eyes Rebound

Borek will be important parts to the offense as well. Post-grad Jake Smith is another weapon Seniors Vincent Ditmore (13 pts) and Branden Ross (7 pts) will be cornerstones of the Choate defense. The Wild Boars also have a host of young blueliners new to the program. Goaltending will be more that solid with the return of seniors Sam Tucker (Yale recruit) and Andrew Tucci. It was a very uncharacteristic down season for Avon Old Farms (9-15-1) last winter, and the team hopes for a quick turnaround this winter. Tri-captain seniors Chase Zieky and Brendan Ashe highlight the Avon offensive attack. Three highly-regarded offensive newcomers are junior Jamie Armstrong (Northeastern recruit), sophomore Patrick Harper (BU recruit) and sophomore Josh Vertentes. Tri-captain senior Austin Jadovich headlines the Avon blue line, a veteran group that also returns seniors Jack McNee and Corey Morgan, and sophomore Ryan Ashe. Post-grad blueliner Andrew Cross will have a key role. In the nets, senior Tucker Weppner gives the Winged Beavers an experienced presence between the pipes. If the returners can elevate their game and bring the newcomer along, things could be pretty successful for the Westminster (12-11-3). Up front, junior Taggart Corriveau (30 pts, St. Lawrence commit) should be amongst the top forwards in prep hockey. Seniors Anthony Di Placido and Jack Fitzgerald, and juniors Johnny McDermott, J.P. Schuhlen and Brian Smyth all return as well. Defense is also solid, with book-end rocks senior Will Brophy (9 pts, Holy Cross commit) and

junior Joey O'Connor (12 pts, Vermont commit). Senior Derin Ozturk and junior Kevin O'Leary are back as well. Coach Tim Joncas returns a pair of goaltenders in juniors Stephen Gasior and Nick Sanford. Solid team defense and good goaltending will be key if Hotchkiss (6-20-0) hopes to grind out some more wins this season. Seniors Roberto Cellini and Greg Pezza will be anchors of the offense for coach Mike Traggio. New junior Andre Kurtz hopes to chip in right away. Defensively, senior Evan Korizis is a key returner. New sophomore Marshall Rifai should see some good ice time. Senior L.P. DeCourcy is a returner in goal for the Bearcats. Veteran Taft (12-11-3) coach Danny Murphy is excited about having a solid returning core from last winter's playoff club. The Rhinos will be in the mix. The senior trio of Marcus Mollica (37 pts), Peter Straub and Dan Quirk will be offensive leaders for Taft. Joining them will be returning seniors Trevor McGee and Owen McGowan, and juniors Sam Nestor and Alex Milardo. New senior Dan Harrington hopes to contribute. In the back end, seniors Keenan Murray, T.J. Schultz, J.P. Rafferty and Tommy Mahoney bring their experience, along with returning junior Drew Hickey. Handling the goaltending chores will be senior Joseph Lissak and sophomore Andrew Farrier. Kingswood Oxford (3-18-0) needs to play more as a team this winter and continue to make some defensive strides if they plan on showing some improvement this winter.

Coach Ben Adams will look heavily at a quartet of returning forwards - senior Tristan Morin (13 pts), senior Bryant Aylward (11 pts), senior Sam Kelly (11 pts) and sophomore Chris Adamsons (13 pts), who can also play some defense. New junior Jared Difillipo could help out as well. Trinity Pawling (12-13-1) projects to be its usual tough self, and hopes to rely on strong goaltending and a well-balanced offense. The nucleus of the TP offense will be provided by seniors Austin Aksoy and Shea LaFontaine, and juniors Tyler Gwyn and Connor McNamara.. Senior Daniel Kuter (20 pts) headlines the blue line crew and will also contribute offensively. Senior Chris Nolan is another key returner. New junior Casey Winn and three sophomores - Ryan Winn, Chris Taylor and Jeremy Wilson - add defensive depth. In goal, look for senior Felix Marcotte-Hetu to be a huge asset. There was no info on Deerfield as of press time.

xpect a good battle in the race for supremacy in the New England Prep School Conference East division. Returning more scoring player for player than any year since he took over the program, Cushing (22-10-0) coach Rob Gagnon is confident his team will be able to score goals. Throw in a strong core of returning defense and talented goaltending, and you have a recipe for success. Up front, you may not find a more talented trio than junior David Cotton (51 pts, BC commit) and seniors Bailey Conger (41 pts, St. Lawrence commit) and senior Jake Simons (46 pts). Seniors Dan Eruzione Steven Marsico and Max Hegge, along with juniors Max Brainin and Brent Hill give the Penguins some firepower. Sophomore Dakota Mulcay is another returner. Jeff Morgan is a newcomer vying to be a contributor Seniors Patrick Horrocks (11 pts), Trevor Kacz and Jack Carroll form a solid nucleus on the Cushing blue line. Junior Ben Barton is back as well. New junior Matt Dillon hopes to contribute right away. Between the pipes, senior Joey Daccord is a solid veteran presence that will be counted on. As usual, Phillips Exeter (23-5-3) will be a force offensively. Ultimately, who rounds out the Big Red defensive core will be an important part to the team's suc-

cess, according to head coach Dana Barbin. Senior co-captain Ted Hart (a Providence commit) will spearhead the Exeter offense, along with fellow co-captain Sterling Weatherbie. Juniors Devin Moore, Andy Espinoza and Stanley Brenner should all have increased scoring roles as well. A trio of post-grads - Max Roche, Mitchell Shennette and Robert Durst - will be offensive keys as well, along with new junior Ben Solin. Defensively, juniors Peter Christie and Trevor Cosgrove will be two of the league's top rearguards. Junior Jordan Haney is also back. Post-grad Bryan Botcher projects to take over in goal for Exeter, with new sophomore Nick Moore also in the mix. Holderness (12-15-4) will be nomads to some extent this winter. With a new rink under construction on campus, the team will play home games this winter at nearby Plymouth State University. Coach Allie Skelley will count on the likes of senior Fred Cyr and juniors Ryan Steele and Tyler Slusarcyk to be offensive leaders. New junior Logan Clarke brings his offensive talents. Senior Ben Luz will be the defensive catalyst for the Bulls. New sophomore Ben Antonucci looks to have a key role. In goal, senior Mark Michaels is back for another campaign.

Hoggers Will Be Tough Kimball Union Solid Again (Continued From Page 8)

Northfield Mt. Hermon (20-10-2) is coming off a solid campaign that resulted in a playoff berth in the Large School Tournament. If they can stay healthy and be resilient, this should be another impressive season. At forward, senior standout Ben Freeman (46 pts, UConn commit) will be the go-to player. Senior Peter Owen-Hayward (13 pts) will be another vital cog. Look for new junior Oliver Chau to have a role. Senior Alden Weller and junior Jamie Dorsey stand to be key blueliners for coach Tom Pratt. In goal, senior Conor O'Brien (.932 save %) is coming off an All-New England season. Is improvement in the cards for Tabor (11-15-2)? "I believe we have the pieces to be very competitive this season," said coach Gerry Dineen. "How quickly our new players can adjust to the increased pace of play will be key." Returners who will lead offensively are senior Wiley Knight (13 pts) and junior Ben Taylor (14 pts). Juniors Nick Godin and Symon Trembley and sophomores Eddie Hannon and Alex Cabana will be counted on to produce up front. Senior David Almeida and juniors Bobby Stickles and Brett Dineen form a solid trio on the Tabor blue line. New junior Michael Ryan should be able to step right in. Senior Riley Whitham saw the bulk of the action last season in goal for Tabor and projects to do so again this winter. It was quite a first season behind the bench for Tim Whitehead, as his Kimball Union (26-6-5) squad won the NEPSAC Small School title. To achieve similar success, KUA must replace its top three scorers and top two goalies from last winter’s club. A nice offensive core still exists, led by senior Jack McCarthy (Brown commit), seniors Brendan Riley and Dom Franco and juniors George Sennott and Nic Hamre. New junior Patrick Shea is a Maine recruit, while new senior Connor Jean will be a help up front as well. Junior Ben Finkelstein and junior Dennis Cesana will be anchors on the Wildcats blue line. Expect new juniors Jake Massie and J.J. Layton to step right in and contribute. New junior goaltender Elijah Harris Oscar Flory comes highly regarded; he has committed to Kimball Union Brown. Post-grad Oscar Flory is also in the mix. Kimball Union also will be a member of the Lakes Region league.

Graduation Hits Millbrook Hard; Saints Have Many New Faces (Continued From Page 10)

Senior Noah Bauld (23 pts) will be vital to the offensive scheme for veteran coach Chris Baudo. New junior Jordan Robert will be an immediate plus; he has already committed to Clarkson. New senior Alex Hopkins (Berwick) joins the group, as do new seniors ShawnKnowlton and Jake Marrello from Albany Academy. New youngsters hoping to contribute are Daniel Haider, Matt Danner and Zach Pellegrino. Senior Nick Quillan and junior Connor Dahlman are experienced blue liners back for Gunnery. Newcomer McKay Flanagan hopes to pay immediate dividends. Junior goaltender Trevin Kozlowski is back as well. Leadership, team defense and selflessness will be vital to any success Canterbury (13-15-2) has this winter. Coach Paddy McCarthy reports his club will have several new faces on the roster. Providing leadership as well as scoring prowess for the Saints will be senior captain Shane Sellar (30 pts), who has committed to Dartmouth, and assistant senior captains Dan Weir and Jimmy Morrissey. Graduation also hit Millbrook (18-14-1) hard, as 12 players have moved on from the Mustangs roster. Yet, coach Vincent Sorriento

Look for juniors Luka Piccolo and Massimo Lucciani, both from Montreal, to have impacts up front. Senior Walker Hincenbergs will be a blue line cornerstone. New sophomore Alex Sheehy hopes to step right in. In goal, look for junior Owen Johannson and sophomore Cole Hayward to battle for the starting position. Focusing on good team play and decision making, and a commitment to the systems in the defensive zone will be the aim of Winchendon (11-14-2) this season. Senior Brian Brooks and Anthony Scarcella are key holdovers at forward for coach Jarrett Sampson. Pomfret Tabs Goethals As New Coach Berkshire Needs To Replenish Offense

(Continued From Page 11)

Sophomore Jack Moran is a top prospect on the Winchendon blue line. Junior Joe Vingi is another key returner. New sophomore Brandon Graph will be in the mix for the goaltender’s job. Pomfret (3-21-2) will look to rebound from a tough campaign with new head coach Matt Goethals. They will play the season with heavy hearts, though, with the tragic loss of senior returner Joe Robichaud, killed in an October car accident. Senior Cam McGuire will be a key returner at forward for Pomfret. A trio of newcomers – juniors Andrew Shields and Chris Hicks, and sophomore Chris Wright – should be key components as well. The Griffins return three regular rearguards in senior Chris Kattak and juniors Matt Parent and Raphael Guillebon. Joining that crew will be post-grad Cam Giles. A returning goalie is junior David Altman, who saw a good amount of time between the pipes last winter. Time to restock the cupboard at Berkshire (19-7-3), where graduation took the talents of no less than 14 players. Returning forwards coach Dan Driscoll will count on are senior Henry Manley and junior Barclay Gammill. Three new sophomores to watch are Matt Koopman, just recently committed to Northeastern, Ryan Keelan and Jack Lloyd. The Bears also welcome a pair of post-grads from Minnesota in Zack Hale and Reid Lemker. Senior Jim McKee and junior Dan Driscoll are two key holdover blue liners. Post-grad Sam Topham will help on defense, as well new junior Chris Maratea and sophomore Kyle Koopman. efending league champion Nobles will be right in the mix again this winter, while a host of teams are definitely capable of challenging for the Keller title. If the returning core from last season can take a step forward, and the new varsity players get up to speed quickly, then Belmont Hill (16-10-4) should be in for a pretty solid season. Offensively, coach Jeremiah McCarthy expects big things from this top two returning scorers in senior Charley Michalowski (28 pts, Dartmouth commit) and senior Charlie McConnell (21 pts). Junior Christian Faggas (11 pts) will be counted on more heavily. A pair of new sophomores – Sam Hesler and Christian O’Neill – look to make an impact up front. The Hillies have a solid defensive nucleus with senior Charlie Barrow (15 pts) and juniors David Giunta (10 pts) and Brian Matthews (7 pts). Thayer Must Replace 8 Mike Fahie (30 pts, Brown commit). Sophomore Cam Burke (20 pts) had a breakout freshman campaign. Defense is also strong. Senior Billy Sweezey (28 pts) is a cornerstone; he has committed to Yale. Senior Billy Carrabino (18 pts), senior Alex Hreib (18 pts) and junior Pat Murray all return as well. And, the Bulldogs return a solid starting goaltender in junior Brendan Cytulik. St. Paul’s (20-9-1) came just one goal short of winning the New England Large School title last winter and the team certainly hopes to build of that success this year. Coach Mark Bozek has a pretty solid nucleus to work with up front with seniors Connor Sodergren (45 pts), John Laurito (31 pts, Army commit), Austin Ricci (28 pts) and Vincent Lima (15 pts). Senior defensive cornerstones for the Big Red will be Cam Bando (13 pts) and Vincenzo Renda (15

Having lost eight key players from that team, this season will hinge on how the young players can adapt to the pace of a very competitive league. There will be plenty for coach Tony Amonte to work with up front, led by senior veteran Lincoln Griffin (55 pts, Northeastern commit). Junior Monte Graham (21 pts) recently committed to Boston College. Juniors Ryan Pfeffer (31 pts) and Ty Amonte (27 pts) are key components as well. Two freshman hoping to see time up front are Tristan Amonte and Aiden McDonough, while freshman Cam Lamansky is a defensive hopeful. Junior Mike Royer is a returning varsity netminder looking for a bigger role in the nets this winter.

Lakes Region PReview

Proctor, New Hampton Look To Make A Splash By Gary Demopoulos • HNIB News

T

he Lakes Region will again boast some top quality teams that will be tough opponents for almost any team. Teams like Kimball Union and Holderness are also in the New England Prep Conference East. Brewster Academy (10-11-3) hopes to be a factor in the Lakes Region race in this the second year of coach Jay Anctil’s tenure behind the bench. A key holdover up front is senior Josh Jordan (20 goals). A bevy of new forwards to the program ready to contribute are juniors David Fiset-Ross and Jeremy Beaudoin, sophomore Liam Lynch and freshman Joe Rotondi. Brewster should be strong on the blue line, as the senior duo of Julien Choiniere-Denicourt and Alex Marcinkiewicz returns. Junior Matt Fuller is another solid defensive returner. New junior Sam Provost provides additional talent on the back line. Senior Kevin Lacroix is a returning goaltender. He saw some time last winter. A program on the rise is New Hampton (14-17-2) under second-year coach Casey Kesselring. “We need the core of returning forwards to take the next step and provide more consistent offense,” he said. “We need to get the new defense and goalies comfortable in our system and have them contribute right away.” There is some punch up front with the return of seniors Joe Smith (29 pts) and Pierce Lamberton (25 pts), and juniors Trevor Mallett (28 pts) and Cole Anderson (23 pts). Senior Chris Berry is back. New sophomore Robert Herrman hopes to help out. Senior Hunter Gunski is a returning blue liner to build

Everything points to a solid season for Proctor (17-10-1), provided they get solid goaltending, which shouldn’t be an issue. Top goal scorer Hunter Luhmann has moved on, but there is still some significant scoring prowess up front. Junior Jake Pappalardo recently committed to Maine and will be tough to stop, as well senior Derek Britner, junior Derek Tillotson, and seniors Jack McMahon and Connor Fries. Senior Michael Faulkner is as steady as they come. New junior Colin Bernard is ready to add his talents to the Brunswick blue line. Senior Matteo Esposito was the main man in goal last winter and is back. Adding depth between the pipes is new junior Brian Ketchabaw. With talent all around, expect Dexter (23-5-2) to be a force throughout the season, a team that will be in the running for the Elite Tournament berth. Senior Ryan Donato, a second round pick of the Boston Bruins, piled up 78 points last season and is expected to lead the Dexter offense, with a lot of help from returning seniors Sam D’Antuono (34 pts), Matt Brazel (27 pts) and Brian Green, and juniors Kevin Hock (36 pts) and Jack Donato (20 pts). Senior Adam Desgagnes anchors the Hoosac defense, which this year will include new juniors Noah Lane and Will Stewart. In goal, senior Jordan Elwood returns from last season’s club.

Solid Returning Nucleus Hopes To Propel Pingree (Continued From Page 22)

A solid returning nucleus should go a long time in helping Pingree (622-2) produce some more victories this winter. Junior Mike Riley (21 pts) will be an offensive catalyst for coach Gino Khachadourian. Senior Ryan St. Pierre will have a key role. Newcomers J.T. Chamberlain (sophomore) and Alex DelVento (freshman) will help the attack. In their own zone, the Highlanders will look to juniors Christian Kukas (12 pts), Ryan Lovell (11 pts) and Matt Cavanaugh (9 pts) to be leaders. Senior Chris DeVito is back for his senior campaign in goal. He was a workhorse last winter, logging a total of 1,289 minutes between the pipes. Leadership will be a huge factor in the success of Portsmouth Abbey (5-12-1) this winter, as the roster will boast just three seniors. Sophomore Shayne Simpson (27 pts) will certainly be an offensive sparkplug for coach Paul Ranalli. Junior Ben Quick is a returning forward, and freshman Danny Sliney hopes to be a factor. Senior co-captain Bobby Cloughen and junior co-captain Jack Murphy will be cornerstones on the Ravens blue line. The Ravens will have a new starter in goal, with senior Aidan Cain and sophomore Bailey Strangis battling for the position. Rye Country Day (11-9-2) will rely heavily on their top two lines to produce early in the season, as a young defense and goalies learn the team

The league also boasts a recent New England champion – Brooks winning the 2013 Large School Touurnament. Several clubs have set their eyes on the post-season this year as well. A Small School semifinalist a year ago, Brooks (17-11-2) is banking on another positive campaign. More balanced scoring and improved commitment to team defense will go a long way. Coach Terrence Butt is looking for a senior core of forwards to step up, and some newcomers to help fill the void on the blue line. In goal, senior Ryan Colena is back, having played the bulk of the minutes in goal last winter. Junior Christian Capello, sophomore Charlie Parsons and freshman Tyler Capello are three newcomers hoping to make a splash. Middlesex (10-12-2) looks to be in the thick of things in the Eberhart race, with some talented players at each position. Leading the way offensively for coach Joe Mallen will be senior Eric Shaw (27 pts), committed to Brown. New junior Tabor Smith hopes to make an impact. Senior Harrison Markell (19 pts) is a top prospect on the Middlesex blue line. Senior Justin White is another key returner on the blue line. New junior Nick Kender provides solid depth on defense. The Zebras also return both goaltenders from a year ago in the junior duo of Derek Goguen and Tristan Collins. Solid progress was made last season by Roxbury Latin (10-121), and coach Mo Randall is planning on the team building on that success in this 2014-2015 season. Senior captain Colin Molloy will be the backbone of the Roxbury Latin defense. Health will be a key factor this winter for St. George’s (5-15-3), who had an injury-plagued season a year ago. “Our young guys will need to take steps forward,” said coach Justin Cerenzia. “We’ll

once again ask a lot of our underclassmen, but with a year under their belt for most of them, they should be better.” Senior veterans Gino Roy and Hunter Johnson will be called upon to carry the scoring burden for the Dragons. Junior Frederic Gregoire and sophomore Toby Almeida are back as well. Two new freshmen ready to go are Andy Ide and Matt Toner. Junior Tim Baumann and sophomore Colin Felix will anchor the St. George’s defense. Freshman Jackson Clark hopes to have a role. Lawrenceville Looks To Build On Strong Finish (Continued From Page 27)

Key returners for the Explorers are senior forward Nicholas Washco (14 pts), senior defenseman Christopher DalFarra (12 pts) and junior goalie Harrison Feeney (1.91 gaa). Lawrenceville (16-15-1) finished last season in a big way, going 10-1-1 over its last 12 and winning the end of the year Mid-Atlantic Showcase. Hope is to build on that strong run this winter. Senior captain Ryan Camp will be a forward leader for coach Etienne Bilodeau, as will juniors Jonathan Coffee and Misha Mrothchek. Newcomers Felix Chamberland and Will Bernicke should add to the mix. On the blue line, senior assistant captain Misha Song will join with seniors Jack Burt, senior Ace England and junior Matt Hubler to form a solid crew. In goal, look for either Monty Cunningham or Zach McCloskey, both juniors, to do the job, Portledge (8-6-2) had a positive season in the MidAtlantic Hockey League last season and hope to repeat that this winter. Senior Selbern Narby (15 pts) and junior Sam Sternschein (13 pts) will offensive catalysts for coach Jon Sandos. A couple of freshmen hoping to crack the lineup are Chris Garbe and Ross Mitton. Defensemen Joe Duszak Joe Duszak Portledge (17 pts, senior) and Anthony DeMeo (10 pts, sophomore) will be blue line anchors. Freshman Freddie Ilias wants to contribute. Nine seniors have moved on, including many key offensive performers, so Princeton Day School (14-71) will need to find a way to win some low-scoring games this winter, as the many new young faces get acclimated to prep school hockey. Look for returning juniors Kyle Weller (22 pts) and Connor Fletcher (24 pts) to be offensive kingpins. Freshman Tyler Coffey could add some punch. Senior Will Garrymore is the cornerstone of the defensive unit for coach Scott Bertoli. Chris Helmlinger and GianLuca Travia are also returning on the back line. Sophomore goalie Logan Kramsky was a second team MAHL All Star last winter. He is backed up by junior Mark Anarumo. (Continued On Page 31)

Wyoming Seminary Ready To Build On Big Season (Continued From Page 30)

Wyoming  Seminary (23-10-2) set a school record for most wins last winter, a season that saw them win the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Hockey League championship. A nice mix of returners and newcomers should have the club right in the thick of things. Up front, senior Alex D'Astous (39 pts) and junior Joey Piccinini (88 pts), the team's alternate captains, will lead the offense, a unit that saw last year's top scorer, contribute right away for his team in the QMHL. Senior Janne Vessa (46 pts) returns for a big year. A host of new forwards ready to jump right in include senior David Roebuck, juniors Brandon McCulloch (QMHL draft pick), Jacob Kamps, Tanner Wilding and Alex Sode,

and freshmen Jared Lombardi and Roman Solcani. Senior captain Anthony Gandolfi (23 pts), senior Alexandre Lebel and junior Anthony Lafond will be defensive anchors for coach Joshua Morgan.

Four new juniors - Alex Sabourin, Tyler Wilding, Ricky Fania and James Lyle - and freshman Richard Zemanek, give Seminary a deep blue line corps. Senior Matias Toivola (1.89 gaa) returns as the starter in goal.

Bridgton Off To Great Start BRIDGTON ACADEMY The independent Wolverines get their schedule started in September and put up an impressive 14-3-1 mark in their first 18 games on independent play. Pittsburgh native Jake Worcester is a key forward for coach Mike Warde. Other PG forwards from the Mass. HS ranks include Steve Faia, Shawn Kane and Drew

Lambert. A cornerstone of the Bridgton defense is Tyler Williams from Rome, NY. Matt Lambert is in the mix as well. Goalie Michael Cerasuolo is a returning player to the Wolverines roster. Northwood, Kents Hill and Hebron dot the Bridgton schedule in December.

ear in and year out Culver (29-13-4) is one of the premier prep programs in the Midwest, and this year is no exception. Eastern fans will get the chance to see them twice, as Culver again will participate in both the Lawrence/Groton and Watkins tournaments over the holiday break. Returning forwards leading the way for coach Steve Palmer are Karch Bachman, Matt Donnelly and Zach Main. Newcomers ready to help out are Ryan Patrick and Jamie Collins. Two goalies - Nick MacNab and Dean Shatzer - return, giving Culver experience in the nets. Holdover defenseman Specer Cage will be helped on the blue line by newcomers Daniel Woolfenden and Nicholas Bissonnette. A very challenging schedule awaits Gilmour Academy (18-24-6) this winter, with a new head coach, Mike Chiellino, behind the bench. Consistent offense from the forwards group will go a long way for Gilmour to achieve success. Chiellino does have a nucleus of four senior forwards back in Joe Kourie, Ian Socrates, Zach Ritter and Ryan Rowell. Junior Chase Sriprajittichai is back as well up front. Newcomers at forward include senior Marcus DiVincenzo and juniors Jonathan Blais, Wyley Veinot, Noah Kostick, Austin Connors and Richard Alvarez. Senior Mitchell Popp backbones a defense that will feature new faces like seniors Ryan Burns and John Migliore, junior Devon Daniels and sophomores Eric Malcarney and Sam Lau. Senior Yvgeny Slissenko can play forward or defense. The Lancers boast three senior goalies in holdover Cedric Hansen and Kevin Hale and Mike Bridges. Nick Unger takes over at National Sports Academy (22-38-0) and plans right away to start building the Mountaineers, who will be on the young side this year. Two forwards to keep an eye on are Victor Morgan and Francis Faiello, both juniors. Post-grad Joe LoCasale is a key returner for NSA and will be a key blueliner, as will Denmark native Jacob Gammelgaard. Goalies in the rotation will be post-grad Devin Peterson and senior Andre Spens from Finland. Not a lot of returners are in the fold for Northwood (30-10-4), which must rely on how quickly a host of new faces can develop. Team chemistry will be crucial, says coach Josh LeRoy. Two key returning lettermen up front are senior Patrick Schmelzinger (13 pts) and senior Artem Efimov-Barakov (16 pts). Post-grad Timmy Shea, senior Victor Tracy and sophomore Kadan Pickering will have major offensive roles. A pair of senior defensemen are back in Matt Damelio (10 pts) and Zak Sheikh (10 pts). New junior Hugo Gamache shows promise. Post-grad goaltender Mish Abudi, from Moscow, could emerge as the top goaltender for Northwood. Shady  Side  Academy (14-24-0) will be young, perhaps the youngest team coach Jonathan Johnson has had since he has been at SSA. Success will depend on how well the young guys adjust to the new level of play. On another note, the school has announced it is moving to 7-day boarding as of next fall, which will allow recruiting of players from all over. Senior A.J. Oppenheimer and junior Wyatt Glover are key holdovers up front for the Indians. Some young forwards to watch include sophomores

Mason Yenchar and Milo DeFay, and freshman Alex Ziatek. Defensive leaders project to be senior Alec Schmidtetter and junior John McDonagh. Senior goalie Ryan Wagner is back in the fold. Bolstered by a solid group of veterans, Stanstead College (25-23-4) of Quebec could be in for a very competitive season, as long as they can stay healthy. Bjorn Kinding takes over as head coach of the club, with James Rioux moving to a Director of Hockey Operations position. The bulk of the Stanstead offense will center around returners like David Jankowski, Chris Smith, Jeremy Descheneaux and Drew Packman. On defense, look for Nathan Sanderson and James Zanca to be keys. New players to the program include Filip Dusek, Caleb Perez, Erkka Vanska, Blake Dalton and Kari Belec.

Expansion Highlights Year 4 Of American Hockey Institute By Gary Demopoulos • HNIB News

A

fter a very successful first three years of existence for the American Hockey Institute, expansion is the name of the game for year four. This winter, the organization still has its independent team – the AHI Wolves – that plays in the Academy East Hockey League (AEHL) as well as a strong independent schedule. And, American Hockey Institute also boasts New England Wolves teams in both the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League (MJHL). The independent and EHL clubs are based at AHI’s home headquarters in picturesque Waterville Valley, while the MJHL Wolves call Laconia, NH their home. “Like any expanding business there is always growing pains,” said AHI Director of Player Development Jon Fontas. “However, I would say the process has been smooth. We were fortunate enough to bring a great team of coaches to handle the growth and build on our foundation from the past three years.” A goal since day one was to get a team into a top junior league, and that has been accomplished this year with the addition of the Wolves in the EHL. The team has hit a few bumps in the road so far in this initial campaign, but the team has been very competitive and should be much improved as the season moves along. “Since the inception of AHI, it has been an objective of ours to be part of a junior league, especially the EHL which is one of the top junior leagues in the country,” said AHI President/GM Steve Jacobs. “There are many benefits being in the EHL, such as having great partners that share the same vision for the league, being able to put

How does the institute decide if a player will play on the EHL Wolves or the AHI Wolves? “Our main objective is to recruit college prospect players into AHI,” said Jacobs. “Our intention is for players to understand they are playing for the American Hockey Institute first, regardless of whether they play for the EHL or Independent team. We also recognize that each player has a different roadmap, therefore once we identify what that is, we then decide which team they will play for, and will be the best fit for them to achieve their goal of playing college hockey.” Looking ahead, the short team/long term plan for American Hockey Institute is to have a total of four teams in Waterville Valley and two teams in Laconia. The target for 2015 is to have the EHL, AEHL/Independent and a U-18 team in Waterville Valley, and two teams in Laconia. For 2016, AHI is hoping to add a U-16 team in Waterville to get to a total of six teams under the AHI umbrella. With the addition of younger team, AHI also has plans for a more involved academic program. “Our intention is to be able to provide a non-traditional classroom in 2015 for student athletes that are still in high school,” Fontas said. “We are working closely with the Waterville Valley Ski Academy, which is an accredited high school, and Bob Sampson (Director of Education) to formulate a teacher-supported program. Whatever program we decide on will be 100% compliant with the NCAA Clearinghouse. We feel we will be ready to implement this type of educational component in September 2015.”

Tabor does return senior Sammy Davis, who recently committed to Boston University, up front to lead the way. #8 New Hampton (20-11-0) had one of its best seasons ever last winter and there is no reason to believe things can even be better this year, as coach Craig Churchill returns talent in all three zones, including two solid goalies. #9 Kent (12-6-3) is another team that made great strides last year and is focused on sneaking into one of the eight post-season berths. Closing out the poll is #10 Lawrence Academy (11-12-1), which returns a wealth of bodies from last year's club that had an uncharacteristic down season. ominant the whole season last winter, Nobles (28-1-1) came up just short in the end, falling in the New England title game to a Westminster team that caught fire at the right time. It showed that the top of heap in Girls Division I prep school hockey is getting larger. There isn't much difference amongst the top teams heading into this year. Despite losing seven seniors, including some big-time scorers and a goalie, we will go with Nobles as the #1 team in the pre-season HNIB News Girls Division I poll. The Bulldawgs have a solid leadership trio on the blue line, and did welcome junior forward Caitrin Lonergan, a USA Under-18

team player and All New England performer last winter at St. Paul's, to the fold. Loomis Chaffee (14-7-1) grabbed the eighth-seed in last year's playoffs and gave Nobles all it could handle in a 1-0 loss. With all but one player back, including standout goalie Brittany Bugalski, this could be the Pelicans' year. Westminster (19-6-1) will be right there as well, provided the Martlets can replace the scoring exploits of Tori DeAngelis and All New England goalie Brooke Wolejko. A good nucleus returns for #4 Pomfret (13-6-2), and the Griffins will be in the hunt. Despite losing the services of Lonergan, and a couple of key graduates,

Berkshire Eyes Big Year With All But 2 Back By Gary Demopoulos • HNIB News

t shoud be at exciting 20142015 season in the Girls Division I prep ranks, with a whole host of teams setting their sights on making the post-season tournament. It should be an interesting race. Berkshire (11-10-0) finished barely above .500 last winter, a spot they are not usually accustomed to. With all but two players back, Berkshire looks to push its way back up to the top of Division I. One of those that graduated was top scorer Lauren Henman, so others like senior Renee Dreher and senior co-captain Kenzie Lancaster will need to pick up the scoring slack for coach Sylvia Gappa. Senior co-captain Olivia Good will backbone the Berkshire blueliners in front of goalie Jamie Ernst. New sophomore Antonia Matzka, from Austria, hopes to have an impact on defense as well. Another team looking to get back in the thick of things is Brewster Academy (4-14-2), which won only four games a year ago. The Bobcats have turned the head coaching reins over to Kiira Dosdall, who lists work ethic, chemistry and defense as keys to success. Junior forward Marina Jozokos is a key returner for the Bobcats. New players ready to make a splash include junior forward Kaylee Dufresne and freshman defensemen Kate Nice and Sydney England. A playoff team a year ago, Choate (15-6-3) is pointing on returning to the post-season dance again. Good team defense and taking advantage of scoring opportunities will help the club reach its goal. Coach Nicole Stock returns a solid group of forwards to build

around, including senior Katelyn Pantera, juniors Meggan Rodriguez, Meade Avery and Amanda Reisman, and sophomore Kristina Schuler. New freshman Alix MacKillop looks to chip in. Defensively, three seniors Serena Sommerfield, Anna Rudinski and Taegan Blackwell form the blue line nucleus. New senior Samantha Kolowrat comes from the Czech Republic. Sophomore Emily Atkins and freshman Alexis Takashima are ready to join the Choate blue line. Senior returner Lauren Bailey and new sophomore Cam Leonard form the goaltending duo. With 14 returning players, Cushing (7-15-4) a lot of experience, which will help as they try to improve after last winter's 7-win season. Forward leaders for coach Courtney Sheary, now the program's head coach, project to be senior Emma Tufts, juniors Elizabeth Barberio and Brianna Bermingham, and sophomores Blossom Truel, Ronnie Callahan and Remy Bragg. New sophomore Kristina Cheverie will be a plus. Senior Marjory Boyd anchors the Cushing defense. Sophomore Emma Kowalka is another solid returner on the blue line. The Penguins have two goalies back in senior Sam Reynolds and sopho-

more Chiara Pfosi. A smaller roster than usual will mean this year's Deerfield (8-13-1) edition will have to be in shape and stay healthy. Senior Katherine Jackson (17 pts) and sophomore Meghan Halloran (19 pts) will spearhead the offense for coach Gen Pitt. Look for new sophomore Katie Morse and freshman Tierney Roche to contribute as well. Senior Madi Lyford and junior Katherine Goguen will have key roles on the Big Green blue line. Freshman Ali Dougal will press for time. The Big Green also returns a goalie in junior Emily Yue. Hotchkiss (10-8-2) was on the periphery of post-season play last winter, and hopes to be in the mix again this year. Playing solid twoway hockey will be a key. The Bearcats do return a host of players, including senior forwards Alexa Lorillard and Holly Korn, and juniors Olivia Ostrover, Avital Romoff and McKenna Ingerson. Coach John Cooper welcomes back junior rearguards Kess Notargiacomo and Calla Khilnani, as well as seniors Grace Jennings and Lizzie Horwitz, who can play either forward or defense. New defensemen hoping to make a splash are sophomores Grace Shreiber and Nikki Gerjarusak and freshman Courtney Breen. In goal,

senior Bailey Mertz is back for her third season. Freshman Lindsay Reed provides depth.

Kent Coming Off Breakthrough Year It was a breakthrough season last winter for Kent (12-6-3), which bagged the Founders League championship. Unfortunately, Kent did not make the post-season, which for sure is a goal for this year's club. "While we anticipate that we may be more explosive offensively this season, we must no forget that it was a tremendous defensive effort that yielded such success last year," said coach Shawn Rousseau. Offensively, the Lions will look to senior captain Elena Gualtieri, and juniors Alexis Banquer, Lulu Swartz and Maddie Kabasakalian to be leaders. New seniors MacKenzie Ebel and Kiyono Cox aand junior Keely Moy should had production. Senior captain Cassidy Pratt is a defensive mainstay, while sophomores Anne-Sophie Rioux and Jessye Ebzery also return on the blue line. Post-grad Tori Messina will step right in. Kent needs a goalie after graduating both netminders, and new junior Alyson Baldwin should be up to the task.

With all but one player returning from last year's playoff club, everything points to a banner campaign for Loomis Chaffee (14-7-0). "With the addition of a few new players, the team should have the depth and the talent to compete with the best in New England," says coach Liz Leyden. All good teams start from the net out, and Loomis should have one of the prep's best in senior Brittany Bugalski (1.33 gaa). Key forwards back for the Pelicans should include seniors Sierra Semmel and Shannon Strawinski, and sophomores Linda

Essery, Sharon Frankel and Madeline Giordano. On defense, look for senior Danielle Comorre and senior Ginamarie Mangiafridda to have big roles. New junior Paige Capistran will be a key as well. Another team on the rise is New Hampton (20-11-0), which should definitely be in the running for a playoff berth this winter. Coach Craig Churchill will bank on a trio of senior veterans to be vital to the Huskies offense in Mallory Rushton (45 pts), Andrea Odermatt (20 pts) and Steph Hampton (20 pts). Five new young forwards ready to put points on the board are junior Elizabeth Cho, sophomores Brighid Martin, Taylor Sheldon and Taylor Curtis, and freshman Savannah Norcross. The Huskies will rely heavily on the defensive play of senior Allie Munroe (31 pts) and sophomore Cayla Barnes (34 pts), who both will be involved offensively as well. New sophomore Kayla Milofsky will look for serious minutes. New Hampton is also blessed with two solid returning goaltenders in senior Hilary Cashin and junior Heather King. An influx of young players will blend with a core of returning vet-

erans to help power Northfield (10-14-3) this winter. As a result, team chemistry will play a role in the team's success. A lot will be expected up front from returning senior Ellen Arena and juniors Courtney Moriarty and Cas Szwajkowski. New forwards Alli First (sophomore), Melissa Alexander (freshman) and Ellie Fellows (freshman) will be asked to contribute right away. On defense, senior Paige Michel and Laura Rollins will be cornerstones for coach Ted Kenyon. Look for new junior Alyssa Roof to have a role. Freshman Stephanie Voge hopes to have a role. Senior

Zowie Caouette is a returning goaltender, joined in the rotation by new freshman Amanda Aalto. A host of new players helps bolster the Phillips Andover (3-10-3) roster, which already was returning the bulk of last winter's club. "We are excited about our depth at every position and the goal-scoring potential that we have been lacking for the past few years," says coach Martha Fenton, back behind the bench. Forward holdovers Anna Fucillo and Carole Garrity, both seniors, will be crucial to Andover's offensive success. Junior Jenn Davis can see time at both forward and defense, as can new senior Kelli Mackey. New sophomore Kaitlin Hoang will contribute right away. On defense, senior Eliza Quigley will be a mainstay. Juniors Miranda Nestor and Kelly McCarthy are amongst the blue line returners. Sophomore Grace Dexter is a returning goalie who will team with new freshman Alexa Matses to handle the netminding duties. (Continued On Page 40)

Phillips Exeter (8-10-2) will be blessed with depth on the blue line and in net. If the forwards can produce, then improvement could be in the cards. Kirsten Nergaard and Clara Gilbert are a pair of key returners at forward for coach Melissa Pacific. Two new juniors who should be able to make an immediate impact are Deziray Desousa and Rachel Morse. Expect post-grad Annie Messuri to have a key role on the Exeter blue line. She also will get involved in the offensive end of the ice. New junior Courtney Peyko will team with returner Allegra Grant in the Big Red goaltender rotation. A solid, overall effort produced the third seed in the post-season tournament last winter for Pomfret (13-6-2), which appears to be just as solid this season. Seniors Makenna Newkirk, Abby Horst, Amanda Kewer and Melanie Murphy are all back and form an impressive offensive nucleus for coach Becky Zavisza. The forward group also includes juniors Alex Wallin, Elisabeth Berard and Grace Sandercox. Adding to the mix will be new junior Lauren McMaster. Three freshmen hoping to contribute are Mariella Catalano, Savannah Booth and Gillian Horst. Junior Lauren Ferraiuolo is a holdover blue liner for the Griffins.

Pomfret, Williston, Tabor All In Playoff Hunt Sophomores Kelly McCarthy and Vyctoria Smith look to find their roles. Junior Remy Wells and new senior Kyra Smith will battle for the goaltender's position. Tabor (18-3-3) was amongst the elite in New England last year, advancing to the semifinals. While a lot of talent has moved on, there

Annie Messuri Phillips Exeter

is still plenty in the cupboard for another title run. Senior Sammy Davis, a BU recruit, should be involved heavily in the Seawolves offensive attack, with the help of junior Erica Lunn. New junior Abby Ellis looks for a role, as does freshman Jillian Fey. Defense will be a strongpoint with seniors Caroline Shaunessy and Maddie Tasha and junior Victoria Young all back and ready to go. Two new sophomores looking to impact the group are Jacqueline Leone and Taylor

Maddy Jerolm an Williston

Matherson. Sophomore Lizzie Hanson is a returning netminder for coach Eric Long. Taft (3-16-2) will look to build on some momentum gained from last season, a year that saw them lose several one-goal games. Junior Madie Leidt will be an important cog in the Rhinos’

Alina Stevens Winchendon

offense for coach Gretchen Silverman. New juniors Jillian Pappas and Mikayla Carhart will be asked to get involved offensively. Seniors Athena Wilkinson and Victoria Gordon will book-end things defensively for the Rhinos in front of returning junior goalie Becky Dutton. Having already established itself as one of New England's top programs, Williston (18-6-3) this season will be looking to stay in that elite group. Getting off to a good start on the season and staying healthy will be keys. Returning seniors Maddy Jerolman and Delaney Belinskas and junior Hannah Touzos give the Wildcats a pretty solid offensive nucleus. Rachel Rockwell is as steady as they come on defense, while junior Morgan Fisher is a returning goalie for coach Christa Talbot Syfu. The roster has been injected with a host of new talent, which hope-

fully will mesh well with Winchendon's (14-12-2) returners to form a cohesive group ready to do battle. Coach Jacques Delorme has some impressive returning talent to return to up front in seniors Sophia Vingi, Justine Michaud, Hannah Stephen and Molly Gray. Also involved will be senior Ashley Castriotta, and juniors Jessica Tolzman, Alina Stevens and Jayden Young. Post-grad Arianna Kosakowski and senior Julie Theriault are back on the blue line, joined by new seniors Giana Stavastano and Jessica Moran, and sophomore Ashley Greene. Goaltending chores will fall on returning junior Jackie Kassis and new senior Isabella Mayo. Coach David Pope's Westminster (19-6-1) club caught fire towards the tail end of last season, and cruised that momentum all the way to a New England title. The Martlets must reload for this year and it might take some time for the younger players to step up into leadership roles. Seniors Erin Ozturk and Katie Savage, and juniors Catherine Crawley and Sarah Migliori will form an impressive core to work with up front. Freshman Lilly Homes will look to contribute. Defensively, junior Ashley Carbone will be a backbone. Freshman Ashley White hope to chip in. In goal, second team All New England selection Brooke Wolejko has graduated. New sophomore Leah Classen will be in the running for the job.

everal playoff teams came from this league last winter, in both Divions 1 and 2 and that should be the case again this season. Nobles, BB&N, St. Mark’s, St. Paul’s. Lawrence Academy and Milton are Divison I clubs. Brooks (17-9-1) got as close to a New England title as you can get last winter, falling in double overtime in the championship game. With a good nucleus back from that club, there is optimism for another strong season. Senior Danielle Doherty will lead the attack for coach Lori Charpentier, who also welcomes back seniors Rachel Ulian and Amy Toumas, and sophomores Tess Martin and Mairi Anthony to the forward lines. Having four defensemen back is a good thing, as seniors Lexi Britt and Audrey Brady, junior Emily Shoemaker and sophomore Gabi Hillner all return to the blue line. BB&N (15-10-1) was a thorn in many teams' sides last winter, and with consistent play will be just as tough this winter. Coach Ed Bourget has a solid nucleus to count on in senior forwards Bradley Fusco (23 pts) and Jackie Diffley (27 pts) and senior rearguard Cara Najjar (24 pts). Five eighth-graders looking to crack the varsity lineup are forwards Brooke Sachoy, Emily Brower and Maddie Burns, and defensemen Isabelle Nowieszewski and Olivia Maduro. Nine players return to the fold for Governors Academy (11-10-2), but they do have to replace five, four-year varsity players, including All-League goalie Maggie Salmon. Senior Heather Ogden takes over in goal for coach Babe Ceglarski. She, and senior captains Heather Quin (defense) and Elena Driscoll (forward) will lead the club this winter. Finding more offense will be a key, as the team scored just 29 goals last winter, yet still qualified for the post-season. Getting more pucks to the net and generating better scoring chances will be key if Groton (1-17-3) looks to

improve on last year's mark. Senior Jenna Blouin headlines the forward group for coach Randi Dumont. New freshman Imani McGregor and eighth-grader Lily Delaney look to make their marks up front. Senior Grace Liggett and senior Dorrie Varley-Barrett (who could play forward as well) will be vital to the defensive zone. All but three players return for Lawrence Academy (1112-1), including the entire defense and both goaltenders, so this should be a team to reckon with this winter. Leading scorer senior Devan Taylor, committed to UNH, is back to quarterback the offense. Juniors Nicole Saber and Jordan Monbouquette and sophomores Sarah Wright and Emily Lanci return as well. Even more offensive punch will come from newcomers Kyla Floresca, a junior, and sophomores Laura Lundblad and Kelsey Ryan. Seniors Kelley Potter and Kendra Mac are both four-year varsity players on defense for coach Kevin Potter. Juniors Brittany Colton, Taryn O'Neil and Hannah Ghelfi, and sophomore Rachel Walsh make up the solid group. Juniors Kaitlyn Rooney and Marissa Anderson take care of the goaltending duties. Middlesex (11-9-1) always in the middle of the Division II conversation and should be again, as long they work hard and play good team defense. Up front, coach Kate Hession has returnings seniors Juliette Bendheim and Madeleine Coleman, and juniors Sage Nye and Pauline Santry back, along with new junior Jacqueline Welch. Senior captain Leah Olsen, a returning All New England selection, backbones the Middlesex defense, a group that will also include senior Mary Demoulas and sophomore Caelin Flaherty. Senior Katie Lovell is a returning goalie. New sophomore Caroline Silk is another goalie in the program.

Nobles Will Be Its Usual Tough Self (Continued From Page 42)

Finding some scoring from a host of different sources will be a task this winter for coach Ryan Stone and Milton Academy (6-19-2). For starters, coach Stone can look to returning senior Katherine Flaherty, junior Kellie Quinn and sophomore Maria DiMatinis for production. Or, possibly newcomers like sophomore Jenny Costa and and freshman Meaghan Stock. Senior Katie Widenmeyer and junior Anne Malloy will be cornerstones of the Mustangs defensive unit. Freshman Claire Dudley hopes to help out. In goal, sophomore returner Hannah Congdon will be pushed by new freshman Izzy Lareau. Seven talented seniors have moved on, but as usual, Nobles (281-1) will find a way to replace their experience and skill, The 'Dawgs will still be one of New England's premier clubs. Sophomore Becca Gilmore (40 pts) is the top returning forward for coach Tom Resor. Also back are seniors Shanna Hickman, Jamie McNamara and Molly Slowe (15 pts), juniors Kate Annese, Tess Dupre (16 pts) and Bridget McCarthy (20 pts) and sophomore Danielle Brown (14 pts). Oh yes, new junior Caitrin Lonergan, a USA U-18 team member, has transferred in from St. Paul's. Nobles will have a solid trio of veteran blue liners to turn to in senior Ally Slowe, junior Charlotte

Abrecht and junior Lucinda Quigley. The Bulldawgs must find a goalie to replace the departed Casey Nunnelly in the net. St. Mark’s (11-10-2) will be young with only one senior on the roster, but will be strong at every position. They will be an interesting team to watch this season. Freshmen Lindsey Dumond and Caroline Peterson are two new forwards who could make a splash. On the blue line, junior Hannah Gillis (+9 last year) is the top returning performer. Three freshmen new to the club and looking to play some key minutes are Danielle Peterson, Lizzie Provost and Lillian Stout. Returning junior Marcia LaPlante (5 shutouts) will handle the goaltending, along with new freshman Athena Papantonis. St. Paul’s (23-2-2) lost some heavy artillery from one of the prep's top offenses, so it will be important for the squad's younger

players to step up and earn a role right away, according to coach Heather Farrell. One key holdover will be senior captain Bridget Carey, who put up a 35-point season last year. Two new forwards to keep an eye on are junior Samantha Nolan and freshman Gillis Frechette. The Pelicans also return senior captain Kerri St. Denis in goal, and that will give them a big advantage. Second-year coach Hannah O'Brien has a good core of returners back from a St. George’s (8-90) team that finished just under the .500 mark last year. And, the Dragons have a host of youngsters into the school to add depth. Up front, juniors Victoria O'Heir and Olivia Soares will be offensive catalysts. New freshmen hoping to make an impact include Madison Tregenza. Jane Leys, Maia Lineberry and Abigail Turner. Sophomore defensemen Mia DelRosso and Hayley Doneghey will log a lot of minutes on the blue line. New sophomore Carolyn Drowne and sophomore Lila Burns join the fold. Junior Beth Larcom is a returning starter in goal for the Dragons. Freshman netminder Hailey Martin joins the mix. Brian Cibelli is the new head coach for Thayer (6-16-1), and he hopes to have his club competitive within the ISL.

Keys in the early going will be the play and leadership of captains seniors Tracy Alperin and Ari Bacon, and sophomore Darby Melia - all forwards. Rivers (18-5-1) was one of the top clubs in Division II last winter, advancing to the New England semifinals, and there is no reason to believe the Red Wings won’t be again this year. Senior Jordan Cross (24 pts) and junior Sam Estes (15 pts) lead a balanced attack for coach Malcolm Spurling. Other forwards back include seniors Molly Eden (7 pts) and Lyndsey Smith, junior Maddy McEachern (6 pts) and sophomores Missy Segall (11 pts) and Lorraine Byrne. New freshmen Kasey Cunningham and Jenna Letterie hope to contribute. Three senior defensemen - Erin Connolly (11 pts), Kayleigh Rahbany and Laura Schmidlein (7 pts) alll return to the blue line, along with juniors Alice Pingeon and Ellie Branka. Goaltending also looks solid with returning starter Clara Pingeon, a junior, and sophomore Michelle Ryder, a sophomore.

t was quite a ride for The Gunnery girls hockey team last season, winning overtime games in both the semifinals and final to win the school’s second straight New England Girls Division II Prep title. If the Highlanders are able to make it three in a row this coming March, it will be done with a new leader, as first-year coach Paul Baier, who played collegiately at Brown and professionally in the AHL, takes over the program. He steps into a pretty solid situation. Gunnery (18-4-2) will start the season #1 in the HNIB News preseason Girls Division II Prep Poll, but with the knowledge there are several top challengers ready to wrest the title away. One is #2 Millbrook (16-5-1), fast becoming a top rival of the Highlanders. The Mustangs did lose D-II Player of the Year Melissa Sheeran to graduation, but do return All New England blueliner Meg Lahey and veteran goalie Morgan Moffatt. The two teams will get to know each other early, facing off at Gunnery on December 10th. #3 Proctor (19-9-1) was a playoff team under first-year head coach Corey Cooper last winter, and with a solid nucleus back from that club, there is no reason to believe the Hornets won’t be there again in 2015.

Chase Is On To Unseat Gunnery Millbrook, Proctor, Rivers Have Title Hopes

ISL entrants Rivers (18-5-1) and Brooks (17-9-1) start the season in the #4 and #5 spots respectively. #6 Southfield (10-8-4) also has a new head coach, as Julie Pesta, formerly on the staff at Wyoming

Seminary, takes over. #7 Worcester Academy (18-82) looks to continue its solid upward trend and make the playoffs again, as does #8 Berwick (18-6-1).

erwick (18-6-1) made its first-ever post-season appearance last winter, and with a strong senior class, there is hope that the Bulldogs can do it again this season. Aimee Brand, Tilly Burzynski, Tatiana Bradley and Izzy Eldridge, all seniors, are back to lead the offensive attack for coach Pat McNulty. Key juniors are Kailey Sonricker and Siobhan McDermott. Two new players, junior Alyssa Hulst and sophomore Elizabeth Gross, will contribute right away and can also play defense. Look for juniors Christina Grassie, Emma Hambright and Caroline Hernon, and sophomore Anna Cosentino, to form the blue line contingent. Senior Julia Mini gives Berwick a solid presence between the pipes. Finding a way to improve last year's offensive production will be a key to success this winter Canterbury (7-9-1), which figures to be solid on defense and in goal. Senior co-captain Sarah McNamara, who has led the team in scoring the past three years, will again be an offensive force. Also back are co-captain senior Carly Anderson, senior Mikayla Castro, junior Mary LaVigne and sophomores MaryKate Martino and Emily Martino. New junior Madison Blauth will get involved right away. Post-grad Mackenzie Hilton brings her talents, while freshmen Ariella Haas and Gillian Schullery look to contribute. On defense, new junior Maura White will be integral, and contribute offensively. Canterbury Must Find Scoring O'Donnell. Greenwich  Academy (3-12-0) suffered some growing pains last winter, but being a year older, things should be better this year. No less than four eighth-graders played last year. Senior captain Bella Crawford will be an offensive catalyst for coach Moe Tarrant. Newcomer Meghan Keating should be a key component to the offense. Senior Charlotte Gilliland anchors the defense in front of freshman goalie Courtney DeNaut, who played as an eighth-grader last season. New coach Paul Baier, a former star at Brown, comes into a nice situation, taking over a Gunnery (18-4-2) team that has won two straight New England Division II titles. Forwards Baier will count on for production include juniors Morgan Dow, Mikayla Michals, Amanda Sabia and Britney Longo, and sophomore Claire Lee. (Continued From Page 45)

Sophomore Jordyn McGuire will be a solid defenseman for the Bulls. New junior Kyra Borsoi and sophomore Sydney Parker should step right in. Junior Annie Smyth-Hammond is a returning goaltender. Working towards a common goal will be a key to the season for Kents Hill (2-15-1), looking to improve on last winter's twowin season. Coach Meghan Toomey will depend heavily on returning junior Sarah Dube for scoring prowess. New sophomore Tanya Boese will be an added plus. Defense could be a strongpoint with the return of senior Nikolle Storey and senior M.E. Cohen. Two freshman blue liners - Tessa Schaefer-Flynn and Lily McCutcheon - should be able to contribute. Junior Sophie Boulet projects to be the starting goaltender for Kents Hill. New head coach Molly Engstrom, the Wildcats fourth coach in four years, is looking to

build a solid foundation at Kimball Union (9-9-1). Having national team and college hockey experience on the bench will be a help. A forward group to build around includes senior Aurora Braswell, junior Isabel Hill and sophomore Julia Surgenor. That group will be bolstered with the arrival of freshmen Mia Brown and Colleen Donoghue. Sophomore Greta Close could be a defensive mainstay for KUA, along with sophomore Lexi Nottke. Freshman goalie Madeline Long will battle for the starting role between the pipes. Kingswood (2-16-2) lost just four players to graduation, and the returning players will need to create more offense in order to be successful. Two forwards coach John Hissick can count on are juniors Nichole Demers and Eric Persico, while new freshman Dakota McMahon should be able to contribute right away. Senior Alex Breen will be a key on defense for Kingswood.

With trips to the New England finals and semifinals respectively the past two seasons, Millbrook (16-5-1) has shown it is here to stay. If they can fill the shoes of some key players lost to graduation, they will be in the running again. Two vital forwards for coach Ed Allen look to be senior Cate MacKenzie and senior Morgan Wilm. Defense will be strong with senior Meg Lahey, a second team All New England choice last year, back in the fold. Also, senior Alyssa O'Donnell returns with solid experience. Millbrook does return starting goalie Morgan Moffat for her senior season. Newton Country Day (10-6-0) should be able to be in solid contention for the EIL title, under the tutelage of new head coach Sydney Morgan,

Good Mix Has NYA Optimistic (Continued From Page 46)

A good mix of returning players and young and talented newcomers has North Yarmouth Academy (9-11-0) optimistic about a solid season. Up front, senior Kristina Block will spearhead the attack for coach Brooks Boucher. New junior Jenna Block, part of two Maine HS state championships at Scarborough, will bring her talents. Three new freshmen ready to go are Rachel Hooker, Charlotte Collins and Jordan Ackerman. Defense will be a strongpoint with the return of senior Mary Morrisson and junior Taylor Leech, who likes to get involved offensively as well. Looking to cap off a great prep school career between the pipes is senior Alexandra Barnes, a threeyear starter. Injuries were a thorn in Pingree’s (10-12-0) side last season, including to the program's only goalie. So, it is safe to say that the Highlanders need to stay healthy this winter. They also have to replace leading scorer and EIL MVP Jillian Witwicki. That job will fall on senior Leah Heinze (28 pts) and senior Katie Shreenan (21 pts). Sophomore Abigail Dirks (21 pts) is equally adept at both forward and defense. Three freshmen forwards to watch are Andrea Caradonna, Riley Jordan and Kylie Patten. In goal, coach Sarah Carpenter will bank on a healthy season for sophomore netminder Cece Purcell. Portsmouth Abbey (7-6-0) finished north of the .500 mark last season and coach Kate Reardon needs this year's club to play solid team defense, play the full 45 minutes and ge aggressive to the net. It was a successful first season last winter for coach Corey Cooper and Proctor (19-9-1), 19 wins and a trip to the post-season. With hard work, there is no reason the Hornets can't duplicate that feat this year. Up front, junior Rachel Moore will be the lynchpin of the offense, coming off an All New England season.

Rye Country Day (4-10-0) will be a young team, but working hard each day will help the club to achieve its goals. Senior co-captains Ciara Clare and Jamie Simensky are the key cogs offensively for coach Courtney Doucette. Sophomore Steph O'Brien is a key returner as well. Eighthgrader Catherine Appleyard hopes to chip in. Sophomore Sarah Ince is a key blue liner. Freshman Katherine Holtby will help out. Eighth-grader Annie Hauser could emerge as the top goaltender for the Wildcats. One task of new Southfield (10-8-4) head coach Julie Pesta will be to effectively merge a large group of new freshmen to the program with what projects to be strong senior class. Senior Mary Grace Kelly will be asked to produce in the offensive end of the ice. Fellow senior Emily Tabeek heads up the Southfield blue line corps. New sophomore Cassidy Sullivan could see time at either forward or defense. In goal, senior Kaitlyn Yong projects to the starter. Stronger on defense and with more depth up front, Vermont Academy (7-13-2) will look to get into the playoff mix in Division II. Coach Lisa Wilson needs a big year up front from senior Alana Lopez. New sophomore Chloe Aurard, from France, will see time at forward. Senior goalie Leah Kennedy will be a key piece of the puzzle. New junior Abigail Bogovich should be a going concern on the Wildcats blue line. A playoff team a year ago, Worcester Academy (18-8-2) will need to replace the production and leadership of six graduated seniors. Up front, senior Maddie Evangelous (47 pts) is capable of some big scoring games and will need to be watched. Senior Allison Young (22 pts) gives coach Kevin Zifcak a potent second producer at forward. Post-grad Alex Mitchell will be a vital cog in the lineup as well. A defensive leader is senior Lillian McNeil. Worcester returns a pair of solid netminders in senior Rose Pijaca and sophomore Julia Pelletier. Tilton (3-17-0) should be better this winter with a good group of returners back with a year of experience. A host of forwards return for coach Analiese DeZenzo, including seniors Madison Nichols, GB Manganiello and Kate Albretsen, junior Sam Ryder and sophomore Riley Nichols. Senior Ree Manganiello and junior Stasia Bogacz anchor the Rams defense in front of returning goalie Sarah Erban. Post-grad Stephanie Snow joins the fold.

Culver Academy Will Be On The Young Side By Gary Demopoulos • HNIB News

ew head coach Elizabeth Bennett, formerly at Winchendon School, inherits a Culver  Academy team that will be young, but has a great deal of potential. They lost eight seniors from last year’s club. Up front, look for senior Becca Gicewicz and junior Olivia Herschy to be offensive leaders. Junior Bailee Brekke is a key blue liner back in the fold. Keep an eye on new freshmen Athena Song and Taylor Brandenburg. New goalie Molly Singewald, a sophomore, hopes to impress. Culver will again make a trek east to Massachusetts in December to take part in the Watkins Holiday Tournament at Cushing Academy. Defensive zone coverage and secondary scoring will be keys to success this winter for Gilmour Academy (24-24-10), located just outside of Cleveland. Three senior veterans, - Jocelyn Hunyadi, and California natives Taylor Chisholm and Rebecca Graham – will spearhead the Lancers’ offensive attack. New junior Kelley Madden should pay immediate dividends. Seniors Carly Menges and Rachel Carranza backbone things defensively for coach Rich Filighera. New junior Amanda Abounader will be a solid performer, while freshman Kiana Gilbraith adds depth. Lawrenceville (13-7-3) is coming off a successful campaign and that success should continue if the younger players can step up and play right away with confidence. The offensive nucleus will be built around post-grad Tess Madarasz, senior Egan SachsHecht, junior Jordan Naidrich and sophomore Jessica Haviland. New sophomore Emma Polaski hopes to chip in. On the blue line, coach Nicole Uliasz can count on senior Hailey Den Eizen, junior Allie Olnowich and sophomore Emily Walther. Also in the group are new sophomores Madeline Fouts and Sierra Watkins. Senior Sophia Lattanzio is a returner between the pipes for the Big Red. It certainly was a banner season last winter for Nichols School (30-4-3), which lost just four of 37 games. And, the good thing for coach Scott Welch is that a nice nucleus returns for the

upcoming campaign. Juniors Abigail Welch (25 pts) and Michele Robillard (24 pts) will again be offensive catalysts. Senior Ashley Songin, junior Rachel dePerio and junior Marissa Higgins are key cogs as well. New freshman Ciara Barrone hopes for a spot. Senior defenseman Olivia Zafuto (51 pts) is a big, two-way threat from the blue line. Returning juniors Bridgette Prentiss and Ava Simoncelli bring their experience. In goal, Madison Welch is back for her senior season, after fashioning a nifty 1.20 goals against average last season. New freshman Jada Brennon will push for time. Another grueling schedule awaits Northwood School (30-16-7), who are already well into their 2014-2015 season. Offensive firepower up front should come from senior Cailey Hutchinson (37 pts) and senior Nicole Mensi (40 pts). New freshman forward Moe Tsukimoto hails from Japan. Defensively, coach Andrea Kilbourne-Hill is glad the have the services of senior Alyson Matteau, who put up 45 points from her blue line position. Sophomore Saara Kerean, from Finland, should have an important role. The goaltending is being handled by senior Katey Snyder and senior Lindsay Powers.

Olivie Herschy Culver

Portledge (17-4-0) boasts a solid group of returners, which will bode well for the season. Ratcheting up the offense will be a key. Getting that done will be senior returners Julianne Mauriello (25 pts), Lindsay Miller (21 pts) and Grace Keogh (22 pts), along with junior Holl Ackerman (16 pts). Senior Madison Weller backbones the Portledge defense. New sophomore Elinor Simik looks to get some minutes. For the Panthers, it all starts with junior goaltender Emily Appenzeller (1.20 gaa), a returning starter for coach Phil Hills. Wyoming Seminary will be short on numbers this winter, but expect the club to be competitive and work hard for coach Brian Tweedy. Senior Katrina Sokolowski will be an offensive leader, along with senior MacKenzie Lyons and sophomore Genevieve Lansang, both of who could see time on the blue line. Other forwards are junior Kelsey Kayton, sophomore Emily Levin and eighth-grader Allison Hohn. Senior Catherine Harris-Gosselin will be a defensive anchor, along with senior Zoe Randolph. Handling Seminary’s goaltending duties will be junior Rachel Havrylkoff and freshman Scarlet Dushman.

Boston Shamrocks U-17 Squad Hitting Its Stride Team Achieves Success In JWHL U-17 League Sam Valcourt

“Early September is always tough. New season, new team, trying to get a feel of the other players around you,” Corl said. “Sometimes it takes time for chemistry to form. Other times it is instantaneous. I think that was the biggest struggle. We are starting to hit our stride now, but continue to struggle with consistency and putting together back-to-back games.”

aving achieved much success with its U-19 division of the Junior Womens Hockey League (JWHL), league administrators unveiled a U-17 division that began play for the 20132014 season. Four franchises opened play last year, including the Boston Shamrocks. The league now has five clubs in year two, as the Edge School of Calgary has joined, along with NAHA, the Colorado Selects and the Washington Pride. The Shamrocks U-17 club is off to a nice start this season, heading into a JWHL weekend at Yale University with a 3-1 record in four league games. Pleased with that beginning is Shamrocks head coach Molly Corl. “Obviously, you hope to be successful,” she said. “We provide the girls with the tools and knowledge to go out and execute, but at the end of the day it is the girls that go out and play. We have continued to progress as the season goes on and will continue to be successful if everyone stays healthy and on the same

page.” In addition to their league schedule, the Shamrocks U-17 entry also participates in numerous tournaments and non-league games throughout the season, beginning in early September. In late October, the Shamrocks participated in and won the Vermont Stars Fall Foliage Classic, defeating Rice in the championship game, 2-1, thanks to goals from defensemen Delaney Guimont and Kelly Golini. It was a good shot in the arm after a slow start to the campaign. “The first couple of games up there were rough, as we were not playing our best hockey,” Corl said. “After we lost to Northwood, I think everyone was frustrated and they knew they needed to bounce back. We came out hard against Rice in the first game and were successful in taking back the momentum. Going into the championship game, playing against Rice again, we had built up much more confidence and worked hard and the results speak for themselves.” It was a nice tournament win for the Shamrocks, who struggled a bit early on in September.

“We provide the girls with the tools and knowledge to go out and execute, but at the end of the day it is the girls that go out and play. We have continued to progress as the season goes on and will continue to be successful if everyone stays healthy and on the same page.” - U-17 Coach Molly Corl Guimont and Golini have led the Shamrocks U-17 defense so far, along with Hanna Joralmon, and Alyssa Lilly. The Shamrocks have received solid goaltending from keepers Kia Castonguay and Peri Donaldson. Forwards who have been solid include Taylor Dion, Sam Valcourt, Rose Mroczka, Brittany Lydon and Meghan Galanos. Corl reports that the team has seen great improvements in the other players as well, in both con(Continued On Page 51)

fidence and skill, which is important over the long haul of a tough season. “The girls have bought in and when they play the system we are successful,” Corl said. “When we start to stray outside the system is when we encounter problems.” Corl says that interest in the U-17 component of the Shamrocks Girls program is definitely growning, and not just in New England. She believes that there are plans in the works for the U-17 division of the JWHL to expand in the next few years. The U-19 or “Major Junior” division of the JWHL consists of 10 franchises. From January 15-19, the Shamrocks will participate in the JWHL Challenge Cup in Buffalo, which will not involve league games and include teams from outside of the league. It is a good measure to see where the team stands in the second half of the season. Unlike last year, the JWHL U-17 Division will have a playoff at the end of the season In December, the Shamrocks have a JWHL league weekend scheduled at Brown University, where they will play a total of four games.

East Coast Wizards Comfortable In NEWJHL Debut

he inaugural season of the New England Junior Womens Hockey League is just past the one-third mark as the schedule headed towards Thanksgiving, and the East Coast Wizards find themselves smack in the middle of the pack. The Wizards, based out of the Edge Sports Center in Bedford, MA, are one of six original franchises in the new womens league, along with the

Northern Cyclones, Walpole Express, Boston Bandits, New Jersey Rockets and Hartford Jr. Wolfpack. All league organizations also have mens teams in the Eastern Hockey League, one of the top junior hockey circuits in the Northeast. After a busy, three-game weekend that saw the Wizards sweep three game, including a pair over the Rockets in New Jersey, their record stands at 7-4 in league play. “There are always many unknown elements when you have, not only a new team in your program, but are entering a new league,” said Wizards Director of Hockey Operations Hayley Moore. “With the resources available to us within our program and facility, the success of our team has exceeded expectations thus far.”

“There are always many unknown elements when you have, not only a new team in your program, but are entering a new league. With the resources available to us within our program and facility, the success of our team has exceeded expectations thus far.” - Wizards Director of Hockey Operations Hayley Moore The NEWJHL was formed in the Fall of 2013 with league play debuting this past September for the 2014-2015 season. Wizards owner/general manager Scott Fusco was involved in the founding group of the league, and serves as one of its directors. “The league was formed to increase the development opportunities for serious hockey players at a reasonable cost with limited travel,” said Fusco, the 1986 Hobey Baker Award recipient during his career at Harvard. “Many high school programs have a three-month season which is often not sufficient to maximize player development. Also, many players can improve college placement with an additional season of development.” Like Fusco, Moore, who serves as assistant coach in addition to her Director Of Hockey Operations position, also has Ivy League ties. Prior to coming to the Wizards, she was an assistant coach at Harvard, and enjoyed a solid college career at Brown, where she amassed 130 total points. (Continued On Page 53)

Former Cushing Coach Kennedy Now Behind Wizards Bench (Continued From Page 52)

The teams’s head coach is Paul Kennedy, who had coached the last several seasons at Cushing Academy, one of the top programs in prep school hockey. He also was a head coach at Milton Academy and has worked extensively with USA Hockey. “Having played for coach Kennedy, and now working alongside him, I know the wealth of knowledge and experience he brings to our players,” said Moore. “His resume speaks for itself, but what’s not on paper is what you will hear from his players. Coach Kennedy has great balance. He knows how to push his players to their greatest potential, while maintaining a fun, competitive and positive atmosphere.” The Wizards already have a couple of players that have made college commitments. Kennelon, NJ native Kendall Cornine, the team’s leading scorer to date, is going to the Rochester Institute of Technology. Defenseman Jaimee Cooke of Pelham, NH is headed to St. Lawrence for 2016. “Kendall is a joy to coach,” Kennedy said. “She is very upbeat and a great team player. She works well with her teammates and players like playing with her. RIT will be very happy with their decision. Jaimee is a 5’9” defenseman with a huge shot from the blue line. Jaimee moves the puck well and has the ability to jump into the play. Being on the ice every day can be a huge asset for her. She can work on her craft, which will enhance her skills and her ability to play at the next level.” This inaugural season of the NEWJHL will see each team play 30 league games through February. Games are predominantly held on weekend days. On some occasions, all six league teams will play at the

same venue. The Wizards are hosting a league weekend on December 20-21. Other Wizards players off to good starts include Maddie Davis, Morgan Griffin, Ashlie Jones, Allie Britt and Rachel Peacock. The goaltending duties are being handled by the duo of Abbey Torres and Delaney Gill. “The most notable and obvious surprise this season has been the development of our team as a whole and as individuals in such a short period of time,” said Moore. “We knew coming into the year that the opportunity to work with our players every day would result

in quicker development. However, the improvements in their speed, strength, game sense, etc. in just the first two months has been tremendous. We are very excited to see where the full season will take us.” The Wizards are also excited about the future of the program and the NEWJHL. “We started thinking about recruiting for the second season as soon as we knew the first season was a reality,” Moore said. “It is always good to look ahead and plan for the future. We know we have something unique to offer players who are looking to develop and play at the college level. “Short term, we want to make our players better every day, and offer them to the best opportunity to reach their goals. As a team we want to win a championship. Long term we want to grow the team and the league, and establish both as the premier pre-college development and exposure opportunity for female hockey players.” Fusco said that the league has plans to expand in the Northeast, eventually. Focus first and foremost in on the quality of play throughout the league. “When we are satisified with the level of play and the development opportunities for the players, we will look to add quality teams within the geographical footprint of the league,” he said.
