New Eastern Hockey League Off To A Rousing Start Former AJHL Clubs Welcome Old EJHL Franchises
T
By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News
he ever-shifting Junior Hockey landscape finds an amalgamation of 17 familiar franchises from the former Eastern Junior Hockey League and Atlantic Junior Hockey League now operating under the umbrella of the fledgling Eastern Hockey League that formed in June. Teams are in the midst of a 44-game league schedule. The New Hampshire Lakers, whose franchise was revoked for one year in August, are expected to be up and running for the 2014 season. It is the second major change in two seasons for the former AJHL clubs as the AJHL had split off from the Metropolitan Hockey League last year to form their own stand alone league. Former NHLer, US Olympian and UMass-Lowell standout Mark Kumpel is serving as the EHL’s
Director of Hockey Operations, working directly with each team’s staff to ensure EHL standards are met across the league and that the league brand is put forth in a positive manner. When the new league was introduced in June, Kumpel said: “This group of coaches and owners are the best in Junior hockey. The coaching staff of the EHL rivals that of any junior league in the country.” Jeff Nygaard continues in the capacity of Director of Administration Duties that he handled last season for the AJHL. Nygaard is overseeing the league’s dayto-day administration and business operations. The EHL is the first Tier III league to implement USA Hockey’s Safesport Program and has appointed Cheri Bonawitz as SafeSport Coordinator. The program seeks to create the safest possible environment

for players at all levels. The league is committed to developing and producing studentathletes with aspirations of advancing to collegiate and/or professional hockey. Upcoming league showcases include the Thanksgiving Showcase at Breakaway Ice in Tewksbury, MA (Nov. 29-Dec. 1), the Christmas Showcase at ISCC in Simsbury, CT (Dec. 20-22), and the President’s Day Showcase at Iorio Arena in Walpole, MA (Feb. 1417). The EHL will have an elaborate playoff system, where all 17 teams will be ranked 1-17 by total points. After a play-in game between teams 16 and 17, the remaining 16 teams will play a best-of-three first round series February 28 – March 2. For the quarterfinals March 7-9, the eight first round winners will be re-seeded. The highest seed hosts each series unless opponents are separated by 125 miles or fewer, then the higher seed would host Games 1 and 3. The same format goes for the Semifinal rounds, which take place March 14-16. The EHL League Championship round will be a best-of-five series, with the higher seed hosting the first three games, and the lower seed Games 4 and 5. Potentially, all games in the Finals series could be played at a neutral NCAA venue. The series will go from March 19-24.

New Jr. Hockey Landscape Unfolding
T
he Junior Hockey landscape has surely changed as the 2013-2104 season kicks off, with a new realignment of leagues and organizations. The 14-team Eastern Junior Hockey League is no longer, with its teams going in two different directions. Six of them - NH Monarchs, Valley Warriors, Applecore, Boston Bandits, Philadelphia Revolution and Connecticut Oilers - have joined forces with the old Atlantic Junior Hockey League franchises to create a newer and stronger 17-team Eastern Hockey League. Meanwhile, six other franchises from the EJHL - Jersey Hitmen, Jr. Bruins, Bay State Breakers, South Shore Kings, Portland Pirates and Islanders Hockey Club - broke off and formed the bulk of the Premier Division of the new United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL). Joining that new 9-team loop were new teams from the Connecticut Yankees, the P.A.L. Islanders and the Philadelphia Flyers. Two other old EJHL teams - the Springfield Pics and the Rochester Jr. Americans - took flight in the Elite Division of the USPH:, an 18team, 2-division circuit that also took in the whole EJHL South clubs as well as second teams from the old EJHL clubs that went to the Premier Divsion. Also under the umbrella of the new USPHL is the long-established Empire Jr. Hockey League.

Monarchs Acclimate To New Home NEW HAMPSHIRE JR. MONARCHS (13-3-0-0) A little more than a month into the season, the Junior Monarchs appear to be the league’s most complete club. They had scored the most goals (61), owned the best team goals against average (2.00) through Oct. 27, and won all three of their games at the Columbus Day Showcase in Hudson, NH. Three Monarchs’ forwards rank among the league’s top scorers – Payton Baldillez (1014-24) and Shawn Nelson (7-18-25) and Eric Berglund (8-12-20). Plenty of support comes from Hunter Laslo, Cam Owens and Joey Yeadon, who combined for another 17 goals and 33 points through the first 14 games. Goaltenders Jake Theut (.928 save pct.) and Brenden Cain (2.02 gaa) have been superb, each with a shutout. An active defense features Cam Spicer (4-4-8), Erik Ouellette, Jordan Mathieu, Jacob Donahue and Jonathan Grassie.

Northern Cyclones Have Offense In High Gear NORTHERN CYCLONES (12-3-0-0) With four games in hand, the Cyclones have ample time and plenty of wiggle room with which to play in their pursuit of the division lead. They swept three Columbus Day Showcase games, have bludgeoned opponents in the early going by scoring nearly seven goals per game and building the league’s top differential (+36). League scoring co-leader Kevin Valenti (14-19-33) is clicking at a rate of nearly three points per game. Skilled forwards Chris Zuccaro (24 points), Riley Christensen, Connor Callow and Casper Dyrssen provide every opponent with multiple worries. The Cyclones’ trio of talented defensemen Grant Gallo (9-10-19), Dalton Carter (4-15-19) and Bryan Dallaire (7-7-14) can fill the net at the offensive end and lock it down in the defensive end. The goalie tandem of Evan Morelli (1.71, .932) and Brendan Tidman (2 SO, 3.00) has been sound from the outset.

VALLEY JR. WARRIORS (6-6-0-2) The Jr. Warriors find themselves at .500 through the first 14 games. Some defensive adjustments need to be made in order to get into plus territory. Goalie Ross Bendetson could be the catalyst – he won this firstthree starts and has quality numbers in six appearances. Five forwards – Charlie Widmar (14 points), Shane Tracy (13 points), Christian Elsborg, Elliott Polanchyck and Van Sullivan – have all contributed to a balanced attack. Cole Karklins, Connor Frazier, Tanner Cowieson and Andrew McAvoy are the top defensemen and Matt Penta shares time in goal.

BOSTON JR. RANGERS (7-8-2-0) Early play reveals this about the Jr. Rangers – increased offensive production is a must and improved defensive play a necessity. Goalies Matt Beliveau (.921) and Tyler Fay are playing well and figure to continue sharing time moving forward. Tyler Theodoulou (8 goals), Drew Dawson (5 goals), Garrit Otten and Michael Bears (4 goals) have been effective forwards, bolstered by Greg Stoya (16 points). Top defenders include Chris Hinrichs, Mason Nichols and Blake Walderson.

Connecticut Oilers Have Been Very Explosive Thus Far CONNECTICUT OILERS (12-4-1-1) Pair four Top 10 scorers with one of the league’s premier goalies and you get a team off to a rapid start. The Oilers were perfect in the Columbus Day Showcase, own a +30 differential, and show no signs of slowing down. Joe Widmar (9-18-27), Andy Faust (6-19-25) and Tommy Nolan (14-9-23) have emerged as leaders of a talented forward group and get plenty of help from Jay Heinle (8-12-20), Jared Chinn and Ryan Fitzgerald . With eight wins, Nik Nugnes (2.82, .919) is a reliable front-line keeper, backed up by Chris Bastone (1 SO, .921) and Josh Sarlo. W-B/SCRANTON KNIGHTS (8-6-3-0) The Knights were the fourth team to finish unscathed in the Columbus Day Showcase and are certainly built for the long haul, from the defensive end forward. Their 3.0 goals per game output is not a major issue when you have a trio of Top 10 goalies. Keepers Pat Kerney (2.17, .925), Matt MacInnis (2.06, .928) and Dan Ernandes (2.85, .907) all have a shutout and form a sound rotation for the 2013 Atlantic Junior Hockey League champions. New USPHL A Comprehensive Five-Level Circuit The Top Premier Division Consists Of 9 Squads By Kevin Doyle • HNIB News
W
hen the United States Premier Hockey League formed at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season, it caused a seismic shift in the structure of Junior Hockey along the Eastern Seaboard. The end game is simple: Create the best possible option for young players to pursue their dream to become a college or professional player. The USPHL umbrella features 16U and 18U Midget divisions as well as Empire, Elite and Premier Junior divisions. More than 30 organizations are fielding 70 teams. Five organizations have teams at every level, giving them the opportunity to develop players from Bantam level on up.
Six Teams Come From Old EJHL CT. Yankees, P.A.L. Islanders, Flyers Join In
Contrary to rampant information online banter that the USPHL would not be sanctioned by USA Hockey due to a late and incomplete filing of its paperwork, thereby forcing the league to operate as an Independent, the USPHL’s Premier, Elite and Empire divisions are listed on USA Hockey’s Junior Leagues and Teams website. In all, nine Tier III leagues are currently under the USA Hockey umbrella. Six former members of the defunct Eastern Junior Hockey League – the Bay State
Breakers, Junior Bruins, Islanders HC, the Jersey Hitmen, Portland Jr. Pirates and South Shore Kings – are joined by the PAL Jr. Islanders, Connecticut Yankees and Philadelphia Flyers in the Premier Division. The Breakers, Bruins, Islanders, Hitmen, Pirates and Kings also have teams in the 10team Northern Conference of the Elite Division. The Rochester Jr. Americans, Springfield Pics, NH Junior Monarchs and Syracuse Stars complete the conference.
Five organizations have teams at every level, giving them the opportunity to develop players from Bantam level on up.
THE JERSEY HITMEN won the final EJHL title last March. Now, they are a founding member of the new Premier Division of the USPHL and hope to continue their wining ways. (Jamie Callery photo)
Meanwhile the EJHL’s old Southern Division (Hampton Roads Whalers, Palm Beach Hawks, Florida Eels, Tampa Bay Juniors, Potomac Patriots, East Coast Eagles , Atlanta Jr. Knights, Junior Hurricanes) was absorbed in its entirety to bring the Elite Division to 18 teams. The league is under the direction of Commissioner Richard Gallant. Jack Sweeney is the Deputy Commissioner of Hockey Operations, Deb Madden is the Treasurer, George Kelly the Registrar, and Gene Binda the Referee in Chief. Upcoming Showcases for Premier Division teams include: The Islanders Hockey Club Showcase at Merrimack College, Dec. 13-15; The USPHL Winter Showcase at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro and The North Star Youth Forum in nearby Westboro, Jan. 3-5; and the South Shore Kings Showcase Feb. 14-17 at The Foxboro Sports Center in Foxboro. In all, the USPHL is offering six in-season Showcases across multiple divisions, including three in Florida.

Add a stout defense and you have +31 differential. Seven forwards are well on their way to massive seasons, led by Bryan Lemos (16 points) and Brian Bowen (9-7-16). Tim Doherty (8-7-15), George Mika (7-8-15), Alex Brink (4-6-10), Tyler Warilla (7-3-10) and Vincent Russo (4-6-10) create balance. Defenseman Zachary Todd (15 points) jumps into the offense whenever the opportunity arises. Kevin McKernan, Andy Michailidis and Zach Malatesta join him on an effective back line. Goalie Sean Lawrence has already logged more than 1,000 minutes and has two shutouts to go along with a 1.89 gaa and .940 save pct., both league bests.

South Shore Kings Offense Clicking On All Cylinders SOUTH SHORE KINGS (12-6-1-1) The Kings have certainly put themselves in the mix for regular-season supremacy but have done so in scattered fashion. Despite their current standing, defensive deficiencies have them at minus-3 to date. Offense is not an issue thanks to the presence of high-caliber forwards such as Nolan Vesey (9-12-21), Beau Starrett (18 points), Joe Lappin (13 goals) and Charlie Ackerman (7-3-10). Tommy Besinger provides another
quality option. Logan Day (11 points), Tim Boyle (9 points) and Connor Brassard (10 points) rank as the Kings’ top defensemen. Jonas Toupal and Colin MacGillivray round out the back line. Pete Cronin (2.24, 927) has been the most effective keeper in three-goalie rotation that also includes Connor Maher and Craig Pantano.

JERSEY HITMEN (14-4-0-0) Always a factor, the Hitmen are once again defensively sound and offensively proficient. Their goal per game output (4.4) is the league’s highest, their goals against (1.9) the lowest. Hence, their league best plus46. With a game in hand they may well be the Bruins’ primary challenger. Stronger Defensive Play Could Mean Success For Breakers BAY STATE BREAKERS (6-8-4-1) The Breakers are another team with potential to get things going, but with a minus-16 differential at the quarter pole. If the defense tightens up a bit, this team figures to be a force in the coming months. Forwards Sotiri Athanasopoulos (8-7-15), Ryan Connors (6-6-12), Kevin Salvucci (6 goals), Colby Cretella (6 goals) and James Malone (6 goals) generate the bulk of the offense and have accounted for roughly 60 percent of the Breakers’ offense.

Strong Blue Line For Flyers PHILADELPHIA FLYERS (9-7-1-1) The Flyers’ effective team defense approach should keep them in contention while allowing the offense to gain confidence. They rank third in the league in goals allowed (56), yielding a modest plus-7 differential. Forwards Ryan Badger (11-10-121), Trevor Gooch (9-11-20), Brandon Bistodeau (6-11-17), Ryan Ferrill (8-5-13), and Gianni Evangelisti (8-8-16) ) present a well-balanced attack. Ian Spencer, Chad Lehigh, Christian Meike, Nick Cyr and Connor Meike form the defense in front of primary keeper Joseph Young (2.93, .921).

Islanders HC Will Still Be A Factor In League Race ISLANDERS HOCKEY CLUB (8-8-1-0) It’s taking the Islanders some time to fully mesh. Their .500 record and slightly positive differential are evidence of that. Still there is plenty of talent on this club and one has to figure they will project as a major factor when the playoffs roll around. Yankees Fitting Right In CONNECTICUT YANKEES (7-11-0-0) The Yankees have played solidly since the start of the season. A bit more productivity on offense coupled with improvement in the defensive end should push the Yankees to the next level. The offense is spread out nicely, led by the trio of Nick DiNicola (6-511), Dan Broderick (7-4-11) and Zach Sabbatini (7 goals). Braeden Quast (5 goals) and Brad Buvinow (6 goals) have chipped in nicely as well, while Charlie Zuccarini has disihed out 10 assists. Nick Abbene, Ryan Begoon, Jack O’Donoghue and Marty Rubin make up the defensive nucleus while Bruce Racine (3.03, .924) and Stephen Thulin (3.49, .929) split time in goal.

Hitmen Busy In Early Going JERSEY HITMEN (12-5-0-2) The Hitmen’s early lead is largely a function of their having played more games than any other team in the conference to date. To their credit, they’ve taken advantage of the topheavy slate but whether they’re able to hold off teams with multiple games in hand remains to be seen. Offensive balance is this team’s calling card. Carson Knop (7-9-16) leads a half-dozen for-

Three goalies see time – Sam Dargene (1 SO, 2.25, .925), Curtis Frye (.910) and Parker Butler (2.61, .913). Josh Casper, Vincent Conanan, Nick Horacek and Cameron Giertych provide protection on the back line.
Tyler Ellor (2.14, .943) handle the relief chores. Kevin Chilton, Luke Alletzhauser, Tyler Greenberg and Kevin Zugec are the core of a stout stay-at-home defense. Junior Bruins Offense Clicking Once Again JUNIOR BRUINS (12-3-0-0) One thing you can count on Bruins’ squads to do is to fill the net with pucks. This club owns league highs for goals (63) and goals per game (4.85). The defense has yielded just 30 goals to date. With four games in hand, the Bruins seem likely to leapfrog the Hitmen in short order. Forwards Ryan O’Toole (8-10-18), Nikita Shpakov (9-6-15) and Chris Jellison (10 points) steer the offense. Jordan Mardirosian (5 goals), Alexander Pantalone (9 points), Tyler Mathieu and Jack Kilty (4 goals each) add depth.

Defensemen Kyle Webb (13 points) and Lane Valimont (10 points) contribute offensively and Bryan Carter is solid on the back line. Brian McGrath (2 SO, 1.76, .947) gets most of the work in goal.
Pics Still Perfect In Regulation SPRINGFIELD PICS (10-0-1-0) The conference’s best team (based on results to date) has played the fewest games. With eight games in hand, the Pics seem likely to vault to the top in short order once the pace of their schedule picks up. Brian Brown (6-13-19) is off to an incendiary start and leads seven players scoring at a point per game clip or better. Others include forwards Spencer Antunez (7-4-11), Garrett Torrico (4-7-11), Stephen Gaul (6-410), Kevin Loppatto (3-7-10) and Chris Sattler (2-7-9), and defenseman Anthony Ragone (2-9-11). Atlanta Knights Start Slow Offensively ATLANTA JR. KNIGHTS (5-10-1-0) The Knights have experienced uncharacteristic offensive woes this season and their play in the defensive zone has been sub-par as well. Hence the early-season struggles accompanied by a rather hefty minus-27 differential. To date, only forwards Cole Stallard (104-14) and Pat MacDonald (6-5-11) have eclipsed double figures. Defenseman Zach Dixon (4 goals) and forward Max Rasmussen (5 goals) provide supplemental scoring. Dixon, Cody Goliath and Brad Harley have been the most effective defenders fronting lone goalie Lucas Thurston.
Tough Start For Jr. Hurricanes JUNIOR HURRICANES (1-13-0-0) The Hurricanes’ offense more closely resembles a drizzle and their defense has been getting blown away. With a minus-47 differential, it is evident the ‘Canes face a long, arduous climb out of the cellar. Clay Plyler (6-4-10) and Robin Lamboley (3-7-10) are the most consistent forwards. Travis Cornwell, Brenner Blankenship,, Thomas Keeley, Justin VanSpreecken and Frank Castrodale form the core of the defense. William Korczynski and Stephen Yesavage have split time in goal, getting blitzed with more than 600 shots in the process.

Tampa Bay Can Score Goals TAMPA BAY JUNIORS (6-7-0-4) Offense isn’t the problem for Tampa Bay, which ranks third in the league in goals scored (63). This club yields far too many goals (67) to be viewed as anything more than a middle-of-the-packer despite its offensive prowess. The offense is built around forwards Paul Lochner (11-11-22), Tommy Whiteley (5-10-15), David Cross (5-7-12), Nathaniel Hans (12 points) and Ryan Odgers (4-6-10) and defenseman Nikia Zagryadskiy (5-6-11). Primary goalie Nick Malvin (2.94, .925) has played well. Nick Franich, Ryan Mattson and Drake Stimpson round out the defense. Zach Simmons East Coast

East Coast Eagles Want To Move Up In Southern Loop EAST COAST EAGLES (7-10-1-0) The light-scoring Eagles will have to address their defensive shortcomings in order to make any headway within the conference. That starts by reducing the number of shots (571/35.7 per game) sent the way of goalies Reed Kinsey (2.79, .918), Ryan Taylor (.917) and Frank Cundiff. Top forwards include Brock Martin (5-5-10), Connor McPherson (4-6-10), Jordan Hall, Marcus Mazur and Nick Novin. Zach Simmons, Michael Ethier, Andrew Hallmark and Connor Duncan have been a dependable quartet on the back line.

ounded in 1966 by NHL Hall of Famer Emile “The Cat” Francis while he was coaching the New York Rangers. The MET holds the distinction as the longest continuously operating Junior League in the U.S. Twenty-six teams from New Hampshire to Maryland play in three divisions aligned geographically. They compete for the prestigious Keegan Cup, emblematic of league
supremacy. The MET is a developmental league that conducts a number of Showcases throughout the season. Heading into the second week of November, the Boston Junior Rangers held a slight lead over the Boston Bandits in the Francis Division; the New Jersey Avalanche and Richmond Generals were tied for first in the Mullen Division; and the Central Penn Panthers were six points clear of the Philadelphia Little Flyers in the Dowd Division.
• Francis Division • Fast Starts Propel Jr. Rangers, Bandits To Top Unbeaten through the first 13 games, the Boston Jr. Rangers (12-0-0-1) combine a balanced attack with tight defense. Twins Brett Mecrones (7-16-23) and Derek Mecrones (11-7-18), Tommy Royer (10-10-20) and Frank Candelino (10-8-18) spark the offense, as does Brad Theodoulou. At six feet, four inches, primary goalie Mike Robinson (1.71 gaa, .942 save pct.) is an imposing figure in goal. Czech import Radek Hubacek, Shayne Smith and Matt Pelletier anchor the defense. Boasting the league’s highest-scoring offense (6.6 gpg) and a shut-down defense (21 goals against, the undefeated Boston Bandits (10-0-0-2) seem likely to engage the Rangers in a season-long chase for the divisional lead. Goalies Ryan McCarthy (1.71, .923) and Tyler Miller (1.40, .918) are both off to stellar starts. Ian Drexler and Taylor Hale are strong two-way performers on the back line. Offense comes from forwards Davis Zembergs (9-1625) of Latvia, Nick Cambria (14-7-21) and Connor Wiggins (13-4-17). A sound defensive approach will sustain the Northern Cyclones (8-2-0-1). of the time in goal with Nick Amato (1.00, .960) and Joe Beauchesne (2.00, .917) providing more than capable relief. Shane Branca (5-6-11), Shannon Alukonis and Joe O’Buck are the core group on defense. Shawn Moody (7-613), Alec LeFave (4-6-10) and Jonah Hadley have been the most productive forwards. The Walpole Express (7-8-0-1) sit in the middle of the division having played more games than all but two teams league-wide. Kyle Stevens (5-6-11) and Evan Sterling (5-49) are the most consistent forwards. Tightening up the protection in front of alternating goalies Aaron Daniello and Joe Vinay falls to a group of seven defensemen led by Bryan Nelson (5-4-9) and Robbie Roche (4-4-8). Offense hasn’t been an issue for the Cranston Reds (67-0-0), who average 4.1 gpg behind forwards Michael Pesola (11-9-20), Jonathan Alsfeld (5-8-13), Michael Ranalli (10 goals) and Conner Rubin (5-6-11). The defense features Chris Degnan (5-5-10), Zach Cooney (3-7-10) and Daniel Gunning and must become more efficient in front of goalies Brandon Caya and Domenic DiBiase.

Potent Offense Sends Panthers To Top Of Dowd Division
T
he Central Penn Panthers (11-2-0-2) have leaned heavily on a free-wheeling offense (5.0 gpg) to open a sixpoint division lead. Richie McCartney (20-13-33) has been tough to contain, scoring at better than two points per game. John Wendling (10-14-24), Dean Zerby (8-7-15) and Robert Zwigart (7-613) add to the firepower. Nathan Glatfelter (2.17) and Connor Carroll (2.86) split the majority of the time in goal. Top defensemen are Chance Witmer, Nicholas Masteller, Daniel Kurtz and Cameron Bour. A solid defensive approach has the Philadelphia Little Flyers (83-0-2) in a second-place tie. The Flyers are unbeaten on the road, securing all but a single point. Lead goalie Breandan Colgan (2.60, .929) backs the defense, fronted by rugged defensemen such as Alexander Tan (5-7-12), Paul Napierkowski and Josh Versinski. Forward Justin Nugent (12-1527) is off to a spectacular start. John Kowalewski (8-10-18), Anthony Notorfrancesco (5-7-12) and Ryan Camp (10 points) add to the mix on offense. The Frederick Freeze (9-3-0) share second place. With a modest plus-11 differential, they’ve pre-

vailed in a number of close games, making them a potentially dangerous post-season opponent. Forwards Logan Coomes (9-817), Bailey Moore (6-9-15) and Joshua Aldrich (7-8-15), and defenseman Nicholas Price (4-812) drive a balanced attack. Ian Soifer, James Stiles and Taylor Powell also work the back line in front of premier keeper Bryan Canter (1.83, .945). High-scoring, wide-open games have been the norm for the Junior Titans (8-8-0-1), who rank second in the league in goals scored (77) and near the bottom in goals allowed (79). Four forwards have eclipsed 20 points – Todd Unger (16-10-26), William Dovenero (15-6-21), Andrew Yasenchock (8-13-21) and Nikita Klinisovs (8-13-21). However, goalies Trever Ralph and
• Francis Division recap • The good news for the New Hampshire Monarchs (2-5-0-3) is that it’s hard to get a read on them based on a small early sample size. The bad news is that offense has been hard to come by. Top forwards Isaac Beaupre, Joe Accarpio and Tim Casey share the team scoring lead with seven points. Alec Parmer is another key forward. Henry Butler has emerged as the lead keeper, fronted by defensemen Bradley Sargent, Justin Raleigh and Drew Pepin. The Valley Junior Warriors (2-8-0-3) simply haven’t done a very good job of keeping the opposition from firing at will on goalies Macallan Sutton and Kyle Sutton, yielding about 35 shots per game. Robert Dambergs (7-10-17), Michael McSweeney (3-10-13) and Chris Nigro (6-6-12) power a fairly productive offense. Nate Shirley, Jonathan Parece, Bennett Curcuru and Cam Allen lead the defense.

Alexander Mollicone have been peppered with 473 shots. Drue Amato, Dominic De La Guardia, Jack Meyer and Aaron Wade man the defense. With only 12 games under their skates, the Philadelphia Junior Flyers (8-4-0-0) project as a team to be reckoned with. An outside-in attack highlights the talents of defensemen Michael Grande (6-713) and Alex Cortellessa (8-4-12) as well as forwards JR Barone (93-12) and Patrick Devlin (8-3-11). Nick Tasca adds depth at forward while Dan McCrossen and John Perretta patrol the back line. CJ Lineman (1.57, .919) and Richard Albrecht (2.40) share time in the cage. The Philadelphia Revolution (7-6-0) have shown themselves to be competitive despite a short roster. Rugged Nate Kohlenhoefer (913-22) has enjoyed a rousing start to the season, assisted by fellow forwards Andrew Bily Jr. (7-4-11) and Michael Chester (5 goals). Defensemen Brad Nolan (3-14-17)

and Kyle Crane (2-9-11) add to the offense and anchor the defensive effort in front of goalies Brenden Manquen and Kian Kemp. The New Jersey Renegades (210-0-2) have struggled from the get-go. Forward Ryan Zukowski (6-5-11) is the team’s lone doubledigit scorer. Six other forwards have three goals but increased output is needed. It’s been a revolving door on defense with Chris Rossi, Nick D’Argenio and Zach Gold the most capable of the bunch. Goalie Devin Cheifetz (.887) has held up remarkably well. The Washington Jr. Nationals (0-15-0-0) rank near the bottom in goals scored (32) and have yielded 21 more goals (100) than any other team. Nevertheless forwards MJ Melanson (9-11-20), Max Mona (6-4-10) and Trevor Skoglund (46-10) are enjoying solid seasons. JT Ketzenberger and Travis Greeley share time in goal but the Nats are short on the back line with only four D-men on the roster.

Metro Junior Hockey League The North Jersey Avalanche (12-1-0-1) and Richmond Generals (12-3-0-1) share the lead at the quarter pole with 25 points apiece and the Avalanche poised to create space if they cash in two games in hand. Offense rules for the Avalanche, with balanced production coming from forwards Robert Jaworski (9-9-18), Vinney Addeo (11-5-16), Quinn Ryan (3-9-12), Joey Lioy (5-5-10) and Tal Finberg (3-7-10). Lead keeper Jordan Bustard (1.60, .931) has been superb, aided by the strong play of defensemen Blake Robertson (3-6-9), Charles Spetz, Brendan Pepe and Robert Graziano. Shane Brown is a solid back-up in goal. The Generals play it close to the vest and seem to thrive in tight contests. Forwards Cam Durham (10-6-16), Dana Arnold (7-6-13), Evan Del Casale (4-9-13), Addison Edwards and Blue Hayler (6 goals each) supply the offensive juice. Tucker Murphy (2.00, .943) and Cooper Cook (3.00, .916) share the goaltending duties. Jacob Switzer, Alex Soviero, Allen Hudson and Taylor Cutting are top defensemen. The Long Island Royals (9-5-0-2) hit November with a slim lead in a multi-team battle for positioning behind the co-leaders. Matt O’Shaughnessy (17-14-31), Nicholas Tasaco (820-28) and Anthony Koslow (11-12-23) form a formidable forward trio. Brett Rooney (5-6-11), Brandon McLennan and Dylan Fogarty lead the defense in front of solid primary goalie Corey Cairo (2.83, .901). The Brewster Bulldogs (9-5-0-1) favor a wide-open style that doesn’t allow much of a margin of error, evidenced by a slight plus-7 differential. Forwards Sean Henderson (13-11-24), Sandrew Schauer (10-13-23) and Christopher Hagen (7-15-22) carry the load on offense. Matthew Lipsky gets the majority of work in goal while Jonthan Lovorn and Mark Leprine have emerged as the steadiest defensemen. With multiple games in hand on every team ahead of them, the Metro Fighting Moose (8-10-1) are well positioned for a major move. Steve Leonard (9-6-15), Gerard Clayton (5-10-15), James Karp (7-6-13), James Bobb (5-5-10) and Mickey Wallace (5-5-10) lead a balanced attack. Sean Leonard, Eric Pristyazhnyk and Zack Schneider form the core of the defense protecting lead goalie Dominic Lammano. Applecore (6-5-0-1) fit that category as well although both hold games in hand and could make a mid-season move. Forwards Matt Dostie (6-6-12), Zach Palmer (4-8-12) and Evan Rankin (5-6-11) lead the Wolfpack attack. Kyle Carducci (2.60, .907) has been rock solid in goal with Daniel Potter serving as back-up. Will Gaspar, Kade McCartin and Lou Ianotti have performed well on the back line. The Rockets neither score nor surrender much, leading to a level plus/minus. Offense comes from forwards Ryan Swain (9-9-18) and Dana Engram (3-8-11) and defensemen Ryan Demgard (7-5-12) and Nick Fiorentino (4-3-7). Sean Schirripa adds depth. Jarred Liscio (2.75) and Thomas Marigliano (2.57) split the goaltending. Applecore presents a balanced attack, paced by forwards Brian Birbrayer (6-15-21), Colton Schnall (6-10-16), Kieran Hurley (5-9-14) and Steve Azzara (6-6-12). Defensemen Brian Hurley (5-7-12) and James Sharpe (4-8-12) contribute to the offense while patrolling the back line in front of primary goalie Christoph Mutschin. The New Jersey Wildcats (4-12-0-1) score well enough but must do a better job defensive. Billy Nichols (11-9-20), Alex Linquito (10 points) and Ryan Muscatella (7 goals) are go-to forwards. Ryan Strapp (5-7-12) joins Gage Malinowski and Kyle Davey on the back line. Goalies Gennaro Anzevino and Matt Inglis split time. The New York Saints (3-11-0-1) rank as the league’s second lowest-scoring team. Only forward Griffin Privitera (9-2-11) has achieved double digit scoring, accounting for one-third of

Opponents have doubled up the Connecticut Junior Oilers (2-11-0-2) to date, 68-30. Forwards Tommy Green (5-6-11) and Alex Bastone, Kevin Robinson, Mike Troiano and Todd Brown have been productive.
