This is my original CAD plan. As I received good comment on my ramp scheme, not much radical change happening with my final ramp plan. However, the problem I did notice with my CAD plan is the point at RV1. Although I felt there’s something wrong happening there, but not until I model it in 3D was I able to visualize the issue and improve accordingly. THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

It turned out that the building cut made this point look bulky and the Farnworth house lost its origial design intention which is to ‘touch the ground lightly’.
RV2 RV1
So I decided to only make the platform cut, without fill. The result is much more satisfying. Also, with the CAD plan, I was really trying to calculate the exact spot level of ramp, but there are still minor gaps in the meeting points of ramp/path and ramp/building. With 3D visualizing tool, I can easily pick it up and precisely change the design.

RV1: platform fill removed from grading plan RV3: I should have paid more attention to/learn how to accurately model the gradient of this cut. It does not meet the suggested 1: 2.5 gradient for platform cut

IMPROVEMENT FOR EASE OF USE RV4: Open handrails and extend to terrace stair to get access to terrace and safely enjoy the view from the terrace RV5: Connect railing for safety purpose (wheelchair people will not fall off between this 2 endpoints of ramps). RV6: Trees and shrubs are added to soften the experience of strong cut and fill of the ramp and platform.

VOLUME CALCULAITON There is no surprise that the difference between original and modified landform due to cut and fill is small. This is because my design of ramp scheme in phase 1 and 2 are intended to take the earth volume from paltform cut to fill the ramp. This act of balancing in designing phase was to minimize cut and fill difference and the result is as expected. THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

RAMP SCHEME FROM ASSIGNMENT 1 REVISITED For the topography manipulation test, I decided to revisit my floating ramp scheme from assignment 1 and improve upon that marine-inspired land form. I picked up the skills learned from the last 2 assignments with my mechanical grading ramp and applied it to this ramp scheme. This turned out to be a good idea because finally I have enough technical skills to develop a design-wise ramp I embraced at the beginning of the semester. THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

RAMP SCHEME FROM ASSIGNMENT 1 REVISITED DESIGN CONCEPT: CONCEAL AND REVEAL (as seen in photo sequence) Contour plan was generated from 3dxmax. Generally, the platform is intended to sit 7m above the river level to deal with the problem of flooding (refer to assignment 1 site analysis and design response). P1, P2, P3 are points from which view renders in next few sheets are taken.
