Steep slopes, high significant herritage buildings and flood zone are among the most important feature of the site, which helps to set a constrained base upon which we investigate further.
Overlay map of physical (orientation, slope, water drain), social (herritage, local road network, existing grid, proximity to interest features, etc.) and environmental (flood risk, endangered flora) attributes of the site.
Provide a diverse yet afforabibility-oriented options for housing development.

One of the most cost-effective, environmental sustainable and socially benificial remediation measures is treatment wetland. This bio-remediation will not only provide treatment for contaminated groundwater but also provide pathways and social space for local community.

X-JOURNEY project focuses on the interaction within four most significant site attritbutes that we identified, namely OPEN SPACE, HERRITAGE, FRIENDLY STREET AND REMEDIATION.
The design hightlights riverfront open as one of the most important aspect to organize other landuse.

CONCEPTUAL PLAN
DOD Remediation Plan (2016) is reviewed with detailed information on groundwater contamination issues and suggested measures. We then decided to relocate our treatment wetland to reflect the natural groundwater recharge and discharge scheme of the site.

While general topography of the site including the Redmond Hill was considered across four members of our group earlier, not until we revised the 3D model that we realized more attention should be paid to steep slopes and hence, a new scheme for road network has ben reconfigured to response to this new information.

PROJECT STATEMENT
Hence, we desire to create a futuristic town in which residents become actively aware of their surrounding and environments; give their appeciation to the neighborhood and society, and devote their participation in building a better environment and community. This ambition set a basic scope upon which we elaborate our design.

NEIGHBORHOOD ATTRIBUTES
With the underlying principles of Landscape Urbanism as a contemporary paradigm shift in town planning, X-team has been, from the very early stage of this project, exploring the idea of landscape organizing the development: seeing urban environment not as a cluster of buildings and infrastructure, but as our immediate environments such as our backyards, streets, open space, social space and even the transformation of the environment without our awareness.

Pedestrian Path
This Department of Defence site sits within a unique context with many significant attributes. With close proximity to High Point Shopping Center, this site possesses opportunities to connect with Melbourne’s one of the most busiest shopping district through various access points. South access to the site (Raleige Rd) is a major public-transport node with adjencancy to bus and tram stop within walkable distance. Pedestrian-friendly routes, however, are not prominent in this area.
