THE ELA HOCKADAY FUND FOR FACULTY EXCELLENCE Saturday, March 12, 2016 6:00 p.m. The Hockaday School Penson Athletic Center

Welcome Dear Parents, Alumnae, Faculty, and Friends: Welcome to Hockaday’s “Daisy Dance – A Classic Remixed,” featuring the incomparable Emerald City Band. There are a few of us from an earlier generation who remember the glamour of parties from the 40s, 50s, and 60s, but tonight we want to interpret that glamour in a modern way by channeling Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds, while thinking Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. This is a night of celebrations: we have come to honor our faculty by giving to The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence; to honor our School by supporting its endowment; and to honor our families by providing a wonderful party full of joy and delights. As you will see from this program, the talents and generosity of the Hockaday community are overwhelming, and the delights in store are astonishing. If glamour and sophistication marked the parties of the mid-20th century, the details enclosed will suggest all sorts of treats – from vacations, to dinners, to treasures – that recreate the elegance of those affairs. Our party will bring us all together in an evening of fellowship, warmth, and support – of a wonderful School and its remarkable students and faculty. So, to quote some of the films of these elegant dancers, stay “Fit as a Fiddle” in preparation for our party, “Face the Music and Dance” the night away. You’ll say at the end, “I’ve Had the Time of My Life!” As you dance, please think with gratitude of the donors and volunteers who make this largesse possible and give special hugs and “Clap Yo’ Hands” for our Benefit Chair Donna Carlisle and HPA President Ariana Held ’87. With love, Liza Lee Eugene McDermott Headmistress

Dear Friends ... Dear Friends, Welcome to the 2016 Hockaday Parents’ Association Benefit, “Daisy Dance – A Classic Remixed,” reprising the swanky, glamorous cocktail parties of the past mid-century, but interpreted in a very modern way. Tonight’s party is a chance to dress up, toast friends, have a delicious bite of a classic dish, and dance the night away with the marvelous Emerald City Band. It’s a night to celebrate Hockaday, this rare, beautiful, pie-in-the-sky hopeful, flush-in-tradition-andcharacter place that exists for the sole purpose of educating girls, our girls. Let’s salute our faculty who motivate, inspire, and prepare Hockadaisies to live exceptionally. The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence supports professional development, graduate studies, faculty salaries, and allows our School to recruit only the finest teachers. The HPA Benefit builds this fund and shows the faculty that Hockaday parents stand with them in their endeavor to provide a superior education for our daughters. May I say thank you, everyone, for your limitless support that came in so many ways throughout the year. Your time, talent, and unyielding generosity made for a wonderful benefit year. Now here’s to a spectacular night! Smooches darlings, Donna Carlisle 2016 Benefit Chair

Thank you

to Liza Lee, our Eugene McDermott Headmistress, for your inspiring grace and kind words of encouragement throughout the year.

A heartfelt ”Thank You” to Ariana Held ‘87 and to the HPA Executive Committee, all Grade and Outreach Reps, Advisory Moms, our Division Heads, Elizabeth Jones, Assistant Head of Upper School, Debby Spradley and the entire Development Office, Katherine Mathes-Bullock ’97, Hockamoms, Naheed Shahid, and Kimberly Nelon and, of course, the bright-eyed students of Hockaday and their families for your enthusiasm and cooperation whenever we asked! My admiration and thanks to Abi Poe, for lending her enormous artistic talent and careful touch to every detail.
