1993 Independence Bowl Virginia Tech 45, Indiana 20 Dec. 31 • Independence Stadium • Shreveport, Louisiana
Tech scored with 35 seconds left in the first half on a Lawrence Lewis 20-yard fumble return and appeared set to go into halftime with a 21-13 lead. The Hoosiers got a good kickoff return and drove to the Tech 33 before lining up to attempt a 51-yard field goal in the final seconds of the half. But Tech’s Jeff Holland blocked it, and Antonio Banks returned it 80 yards for a touchdown, as Tech grabbed a 28-13 halftime lead and went on to win 4520. It was the first bowl win for head coach Frank Beamer.

Tech trailed the Longhorns 10-0 in the first half of the Sugar Bowl, and struggled to get anything going offensively. But late in the first half, the Hokies got on the board because of a big play from their special teams. Bryan Still returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown, with 2:34 left in the first half, and the Hokies went into the locker room down just 10-7. Still’s return sparked the Hokies, as they scored 28 unanswered points in a 28-10 win.

1998 Music City Bowl Virginia Tech 38, Alabama 7 Dec. 29 • Vanderbilt Stadium • Nashville, Tennessee
Tech refused to let a freezing rain and a wind chill of 14 degrees stop it against Alabama in the inaugural Music City Bowl. Corey Moore, who had a sack and a forced fumble in the game, made the big play when he blocked a third-quarter punt that set up a 4-yard touchdown run by tailback Shyrone Stith. The Hokies led 24-7 and never looked back in a 38-7 win over the Crimson Tide.
1998 Music City Bowl Virginia Tech 38, Alabama 7 Dec. 29 • Vanderbilt Stadium • Nashville, Tennessee
The Hokies scored 28 second-half points to throttle any Alabama hopes, and the final score of a 38-7 whipping of the Crimson Tide came courtesy of a defense that dominated all season. Anthony Midget intercepted an Andrew Zow pass and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown to seal the win. The Tide turned the ball over four times – three on interceptions – and rushed for only 50 yards in the defeat.

But Tech started its comeback with a big play from quarterback Michael Vick, who found André Davis for a 49-yard touchdown to get the Hokies on the board. Tech later would grab the lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Florida State scored 18 fourth-quarter points and pulled away for a 46-29 win.
2000 Sugar Bowl Florida State 46, Virginia Tech 29 Jan. 4 • Louisiana Superdome • New Orleans, Louisiana

Tech trailed 10-0, but Suggs’ 15-yard touchdown run in the second quarter got the Hokies on the board, and the defense only allowed a field goal the rest of the game, as Tech rallied behind Suggs’ 70 yards rushing and Bryan Randall’s 177 yards passing.

2013 Sun Bowl UCLA 42, Virginia Tech 12 Dec. 31 • Sun Bowl Stadium • El Paso, Texas

Thomas ran over UCLA linebacker Myles Jack on a 25yard run in the second quarter, and that play got the Hokies fired up. Unfortunately, Thomas suffered a concussion three plays later, and Tech wasn’t the same afterward. The Bruins scored 28 fourth-quarter points to pull away.
