AOL

Toronto, Ontario For AOL Canada’s Toronto office, HOK created an environment that promotes collaboration between the 90 employees working there. With its exposed brick walls and ceiling beams, the two-floor, 15,000sf space reflect AOL’s edgy, youthful, innovative and socially engaged culture. Individual workstations line the perimeter of the space, while meeting spaces of various sizes accommodate group work, and casual spaces including a café/lounge/ entertainment space invite staff to mingle.

h o k .co m | 11

Royal Sun Alliance Corporate Office Toronto, Ontario

RSA wanted their new environment to reflect the innovation, collaboration and client-focused approach that they bring to the insurance business. The new 110,000sf space features universally accessible daylight, cafés, lounges and areas for professional meetings, complete with a wide range of gathering spaces. HOK created a workspace that embraces RSA’s past and future, utilizing a fresh look, while preserving the firm’s brand and displaying its much-valued artifacts. h o k .co m | 13

WPP

Corporate Offices Toronto, Ontario Inspired by WPP’S local neighborhoods, a plethora of stimuli such as Galleries, Libraries, Cafes, Parks and Home, were created to make up the oasis of alternative workspaces. HOK provided each office with a sense of community. Canadian projects for WPP include Hill+Knowlton in Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary; Blast Radius in Toronto and Vancouver; and MediaCom, Y&R / Wunderman, MindShare and MEC, all in Toronto.

h o k .co m | 15

Google

Corporate Offices Toronto, Ontario Google Canada’s headquarters workplace provides an environment that sparks the imagination while being anchored with well designed ergonomic spaces and seamless integration of technology. HOK worked with Google to design a new workplace stacked over five floors at 111 Richmond Street West, a heritage building in Toronto’s downtown core.

h o k .co m | 17

Alliance Films

Corporate Offices Toronto, Ontario The 17,000-square-foot space reflects the client’s love for minimalist architecture and old world charm by juxtaposing clean lines with classical elements. The design thrilled the client so much that Alliance intends on utilizing the design in other international offices.

h o k .co m | 19

Mediaedge:cia Head Office Toronto, Ontario

HOK was retained to design of new 24,000 sf offices for Mediaedge:cia. As part of the WPP group of companies, Mediaedge:cia’s main challenge was to maintain their unique identity while implementing corporate standards. The new offices will include a central multifunctional gathering space for all employees along with many collaborative areas dispersed around the floor. A focus on the various forms of media will be highlighted throughout the space. h o k .co m | 21

EMI Music

Downtown Office Toronto, Ontario EMI Music Canada engaged HOK to assist with moving their organization from the suburbs to a downtown Toronto location. The music industry has undergone significant negative changes in the last 10 years and the organization needed to maximize the utilization of their space. They decided to see this as an opportunity for a fresh start that would revitalize the business.

h o k .co m | 23

Catalyst Capital Corporate Offices Toronto, Ontario

HOK has established a Canadian identity for this dynamic fund management corporation. The focus of the business is to revitalize troubled companies. The culture is intense, creative, and professional. The 12,000 sq. ft. design details and finishes palette support the company’s eclectic art collection which includes modern and traditional paintings and sculpture.

h o k .co m | 25

TD

Online Channel Toronto, Ontario The main client directive was to develop a new, collaborative approach to workspaces; improving, expanding, integrating and connecting experiences and results across customers and team members. The design solution delivers a strong and consistent online experience for all stake holders.

h o k .co m | 27

Cisco Systems

Customer Briefing Center & Field Sales Offices Ottawa, Ontario The 9,000 sq. ft. facility comprises two main areas. With its conference and demonstration spaces, the customer area is designed to showcase Cisco’s advanced technology tools for large groups of clients. One of the special features is the TelePresence room which delivers real-time, face-to-face, life-size interaction using advanced visual, audio, and collaboration technologies. h o k .co m | 29

Warner Music Canada Head Office Toronto, Ontario

Home to some of the best known record labels in the music industry, Warner Music Canada wanted a hip, forward-looking design for its new Canadian head office.

h o k .co m | 31

HOK Studio

Toronto, Ontario Our 20,000 sq. ft. LEED- CI Gold certification, enhances the function of the HOK Toronto practice. The overall scheme of the open plan studio - a fifth floor renovation - is white in colour and bright in effect. The clear open layout - glass enclosed offices are assigned according to the need for privacy, not by hierarchy - is washed by even north light from the windows which ring the building’s perimeter. Glass walls, translucent and transparent, allow light into meeting rooms and the few offices at the building’s core. h o k .co m | 3 3

JTI-Macdonald Corporation Toronto, Ontario

Originally located on two floors in First Canadian Place for 10 years, JTI-Macdonald’s staff had grown comfortable with their downtown amenities and oblivious to the limitations of their workplace. HOK’s challenge was to create an environment that would exceed the expectations of the old guard while allowing for flexibility to meet future needs.

h o k .co m | 3 5

Canadian Welding Bureau Head Office Milton, Ontario

The relocated regional offices include meeting and seminar rooms, a wellness centre, café, catering support for client and social functions and teaching support spaces. Training rooms provide for both academic and hands-on learning for new technologies.

h o k .co m | 37

Deutsche Bank Toronto, Ontario

In cooperation with one of Deutsche Bank’s workplace strategists, HOK Canada was engaged to participate in a week long management and user workshop named the Collaborative Design Process. This complete analysis of strengths, problems, opportunities and threats (SPOT) ensured improved efficiency in relocating 120 people from 30,000 square feet at 222 Bay Street to 25,000 square feet at Commerce Court was a complete success with full support of all end users. h o k .co m | 39

BMO Corporate Technology

Toronto, Ontario

This media-intensive, 45,795-square-foot customer briefing center and office space exemplifies a new definition of design process, combining Building Information Modeling (BIM), an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) collaborative team relationship, and a fast-track design-build project schedule with sustainable goals.

h o k .co m | 41

TD Bank Financial Group FlexWorkPlace Pilot Toronto, Ontario (several locations)

As part of its ongoing work with the TD Bank, HOK undertook a series of studies to determine if alternative flexworkplace strategies could provide improved work efficiency and a measurable return on investment in terms of real estate savings. HOK is now developing a final standard design that will be adaptable for either FlexWorkSpace or Corporate Standard/ Non-Flex WorkSpace businesses within the TD Bank Financial Group. h o k .co m | 4 3

Mindshare

Toronto, Ontario MindShare wanted to visually communicate its creative approach to business and the important symbiotic relationship between clients and employees. Working within the constraints of a limited schedule and budget, HOK and MindShare worked together to implement a design where the architecture and fixtures provide a backdrop for images illustrating MindShare’s expanding portfolio, employee contributions and brand.

h o k .co m | 4 5

CIBC

AWS Corporate Office Toronto, Ontario Alternative Work Strategy as a pilot project – to create a flexible workspace to accommodate alternative methods for work. Space selected by client provided a challenge due to the building being a heritage site, with small windows and an awkward shaped floor plate.

h o k .co m | 47

The Daniel’s Corporation Cinema Tower Presentation Centre Toronto, Ontario

Unlike its neighbour, the sleekly designed TIFF Building, the Cinema Tower Condominium is designed as a “rough cut,” and this 5,000 sf Presentation Centre clearly communicates that unique concept. Its “behind the scenes” unfinished feel honours the art of film-making versus the celebrity stardom and pays homage to the nearby Queen West culture.

h o k .co m | 4 9

The Daniels Corporation Limelight Condominium Presentation Centre Mississauga, Ontario

Limelight Condominium is the latest offering from Daniels master planned community at Mississauga City Centre West. Natural materials combined with modern details and impactful color reflect the brand of the newest condominium to arrive on the market.
