June is a fabulous month-- lots of weddings, vacation time for many of us and Father’s Day too! For those who are fortunate enough to have their endearing dads around, it’s a wonderful time. Dads provide invaluable qualities that help us face life with courage. They are our pillars of strength. For those single mom’s out there, Happy Father’s Day too! They are superheroes and as a past single mom, I know it takes a lot of guts to raise children on your own in today’s society. There has been an overwhelming increase in single parenthood over the recent years, (mainly single moms). Sadly, many are stuck in dead-end jobs with limited options being the sole bread winner. Self sacrifice is the motto for these “Mom/Dads,” so we wish them a Happy Father’s Day too. We are also pleased to welcome our latest editorial contributors— Pamela Diaz-de-Leon Sims, a seasoned real estate expert which will keep us up-to-date on the real estate boom in our flourishing South Florida communities; Luis Alberto Pelayo, who will grace us each month with features on the art of good living with his “Sybarite Corner”, as well as Martin Arce for his monthly Art & Culture column.

THE MOST COMFY FATHERS DAY GIFT Recliners have come a long way….
Father’s Day is just around the corner. So what better topic to write about than what to get the special dads and/or hubby’s in our life?
I
was fortunate to have a very close, loving relationship with my own dad. He is no longer with me and I miss him every day. He, as most, had an interesting life. He was born and raised in NY in a very ethnic, Italian neighborhood. I have wonderful memories of visiting my grandmother often in her tiny apartment. We lived in the suburbs of NY. Her apartment was in the Bronx. The aroma of marinara sauce or as Italians say “gravy,” was the first thing I would smell when I entered the lobby of her beautiful, historic building. All the tenants were Italian as well. Her apartment was filled with love, food and family. My grandmother, Mary, was an immigrant originally from Italy. She came to New York when she was sixteen years old to marry my grandfather Salvatore Di Mare. She arrived by boat and they married immediately. They had never met before. That was typical in their world at that time. The young men would come to America to prosper. The women would be sent from the old country to marry them and start a life in America. My grandmother was very proud to be living in America. She also took great pride in her home; she was immaculate and treated her tiny treasure as if it was a castle. She had plastic covers on EVERYTHING!! In the summer, our legs and arms would stick to the sofa it was so hot. Even the lampshades had plastic covers! However, there was one piece of furniture that had the honor of freedom without plastic. It belonged to my grandfather. It was his recliner. Oh yes, men and their recliners. It’s a love story that spans decades, without boundaries of class or ethnicity.
The Ultimate Recliner for Dad:
For many years, recliners were considered old fashioned and tasteless. Well, things have certainly changed. Recliners are making a huge comeback. Look in any design magazine and you will see them in the most posh of spaces. I also have placed them in many luxury homes. Recliners are what I call “happy” pieces of furniture. They are the perfect chair. They envelope the body, recline and move. They are the optimal piece of furniture to meet our sensory needs. They relax, calm and provide security. Plus, they are available in every price range, color and style one can imagine. If my dad was with me today, hands down, I would buy him a recliner for Father’s Day. So, if you’re reading this article and your dad is alive and well, consider yourself blessed and get him a well deserved chair fit for a king, a recliner. Happy Father’s Day gentlemen.
The MWE (Modern Work Environment) Emperor 1510 workstation is a work of art. It may cost you a lazy $50k, features: glare-reducing LED lighting, a Bose surround-sound system, and a reclining chair with everything from USB inputs to an in-seat sub-woofer…

Naturaleza
Por/By: Luz Pellegrino Jothi Vita Ayurvedic Spa & Wellbeing Center
Tastes in
Nature Thousands of years ago the Ayurvedic seers found out that there are six basic tastes in nature. While this may seem too simple, it is as relevant today as it was in ancient times. Today we know that a meal including all six tastes is nutritionally balanced and will leave us feeling satisfied. This will actually reduce our cravings during the day, contributing to weight loss! As soon as a taste hits our tongue, it begins to have an effect on our mind-body physiology. Learn about what each taste provides: Sweet – Builds and strengthens the bodily tissues. It harmonizes the mind and promotes a sense of contentment. It is soothing to the mucus membranes, expectorant, and mildly laxative. Sour – Stimulating, gas-dispelling, nourishing, and thirst-relieving. It awakens the mind and senses, promotes circulation and strengthens the heart. It enhances the appetite and aids in digestion. It builds all tissues except the reproductive tissues. Salty - Softening, laxative, and sedative. In small amounts it stimulates digestion; in moderate amounts it is purgative, and in very large amounts it causes vomiting. It helps soften hard tumors and decongest hard phlegm masses. It calms the nerves and relieves anxiety. Pungent – Stimulating, carminative, and promotes sweating. It improves metabolism and promotes all organic functions. It increases heat, aids digestion and counters cold sensations. It also improves circulation and helps resolve stagnant blood or blood clots. It opens the mind and senses and clears the channels, relieving nerve pain and muscle tension. Bitter - detoxifying, cleansing and blood purifying. It depletes all bodily tissues and increases lightness in the mind. It is anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, and antiseptic and also clears and cleanses the mind and emotions. In small amounts, it is a digestive stimulant. It helps digest sugar and fat. Astringent – Helps in wound healing, reduces bleeding and excess sweating. It promotes healing of the skin and mucus membranes. It is an expectorant and diuretic, as well as constipating. It tightens tissues. A balanced diet promotes including all six tastes in each meal. Next month I will provide a list of foods for each taste. Stay tuned…

V
aginal looseness, or decreased sensation with sex, is a common complaint in many sexually active women. Often, but not always, this may occur as a result of vaginal deliveries, hormonal changes, aging and severe weight fluctuations can overstretch vaginal tissue, damage collagen and alter muscle tone in the vaginal wall. Although the change in sexual pleasure may be subtle in some cases, it may be drastic in others to the point of significantly affecting personal relationships and/or marriages. Some women may also experience involuntary loss of urine during exercise, laughing, coughing, and even during sex – this is referred to as urinary stress incontinence. These changes may cause individuals to feel self-conscious and inhibit them from enjoying sex or engaging in sexual activity altogether. Until recently, the only options have been Kegel exercises or surgery. Although Kegels are important to strengthen the pelvic floor they are often insufficient. Surgery in the form of Vaginoplasty, tightens the vagina, or a mid-urethral sling to support the urethra to control leakage are good options but they are associated with risks and downtime. Now, there is a revolutionary FDA-approved laser for vaginal resurfacing – The FemiLift™. Laser Vaginal Tightening with FemiLift is a breakthrough procedure that can help restore a youthful vagina and improve urinary stress incontinence. Using a unique vaginal probe, laser energy is delivered safely to the full circumference of the vagina to promote collagen production and remodeling. This comfortable and non-invasive treatment tightens the vagina and strengthens
the supporting ligaments surrounding the bladder and urethra and requires no downtime or anesthesia. Other benefits of noninvasive laser vaginal tightening at Rotemberg Plastic Surgery in South Miami include increased sexual gratification to both, the patient and her partner as well as reduction in mild stress urinary incontinence symptoms. A series of three treatments, 4-5 weeks apart, are recommended for optimal long lasting results.
with other vaginal concerns such as pelvic relaxation, vaginal prolapse, stress urinary incontinence, endometriosis, and pelvic pain. It is ideal for women who have recently given birth, especially if they want to have more children, but they should wait 3 months after childbirth to have the procedure. Women may use all forms of birth control including an IUD, or have had previous pelvic surgery such as a vaginal repair or hysterectomy.
Non-surgical vaginal tightening is yet another treatment available as part of a Mommy Makeover, and can be done in conjunction with other procedures that address both functional and aesthetic concerns, such as laser liposuction, tummy tuck and more.
Am I a candidate if I’m post-menopausal and will I get relief from my vaginal dryness? Laser Vaginal Tightening is ideal for the post-menopausal woman. The FemiLiftTM promotes collagen production and remodeling in the vagina which in turn results in a return of the rugae, or architecture, that is lost with menopause. Women report improved lubrication and a decrease in pain associated with sexual intercourse. There is a return of a more youthful vagina.
Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Vaginal Tightening at Rotemberg Plastic Surgery How is non-surgical laser vaginal tightening performed? The specialized laser probe is inserted into the vagina as the light beam penetrates the vaginal epithelium to target the tissue where new collagen is produced. Most patients report that this treatment is more comfortable than having a pap smear. Is there any downtime following my vaginal rejuvenation procedure? All patients return to normal, daily activities shortly following their thirty minute procedure. However, sexual intercourse should be avoided for 5 days. How do I know if I am a good candidate for laser vaginal tightening? Laser Vaginal Tightening is safe for most women, including those
Are there any side effects I should know about? Women should be prepared to experience increased vaginal sensation and pleasure following each treatment. Vaginal lubrication may improve and orgasms may become more intense. Associated risks are minimal. Some women may experience a watery discharge or spotting for only a day or two. Who will be performing the laser treatments? Dr. Rotemberg will perform the treatments. She has received extensive training and certification in the use of the FemiliftTM. 2.

Tantra:
Spiritual or Sexual?
T
here’s a great misconception that Tantra is all about sex. Yes, it can help couples achieve a better sex life but it actually adds a spiritual component.
During a recent Tantra lecture given by instructor Raluca Popescu at Jothivita Arurvedic Spa & Wellness Center in Hollywood, Raluca explained that the sacred sexual practices of Tantra can help you access, awaken and channel your feminine energy that enhances your creativity and passion. The word “tantra” literally means technique. It’s not any different from yoga. It’s actually a limb of yoga called tantra yoga that teaches specific yoga movements, breath and meditation to tap into your dormant energy in order to better your health, your relationships and your life in general. It also balances feminine and masculine energy (Yin & Yang) for a more balanced life. The teachings aim to deepen the connection with yourself and others, as well as to connect couples with each other’s spirituality by tapping into a higher consciousness and opening up their hearts and finding true love. As a result, they will experience a better sex life and better relationship. So after some Tantric breathing practice and Asanas (yoga poses): the general consensus was an overall better mood with an abundance of energy.

MIAMI BEACH “THE BILLION DOLLAR SANDBAR” Highlights of The Early Years
By: Nancy Esteves
As you travel along Miami Beach’s signature Ocean Drive, you’ll see buildings clustered together along the oceanfront and painted in lovely hues of pastel “Miami colors”-- pink and coral, sea turquoise, leafy green, sunny yellow. The Art Deco Preservation League and Miami Vice transformed Miami Beach forever…
T
he advent of Miami Vice in the late 70s and early 80s changed the complexion of this town because it became a rediscovery of the great architecture of the 20s and 30s,” said Bruce Orosz, President & CEO of Act Productions. “Miami Beach became glamorous because it was colorful. Art Deco buildings that were plain vanilla white were painted in colors; once painted, people would say they’re beautiful, leave them-this, tied together with the wardrobe of Don John and Michael Philip Thomas whose characters were very colorful. In a funny way, they became celebrity cops and detectives,” said Orosz. “ Orosz recalls the Miami Vice influence being so prevalent that there were photographers and models from all over the world flocking to Miami Beach for photographic opportunities. During this time, he moved his production studio here from NY as business was booming. “It became like the Disneyland of photography -- mostly spawn by Miami Vice’s influence.”
Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas
Local musicians were a big influence too during this era and he recalls the Miami sound Machine, Gloria and Emilio Estefan rising in the music world, the Bee Gees during the Saturday Night Fever era, all making a definite impact and as a result, becomes a music video capital. “All of this energy and the colorful pallet of Ocean Drive illuminated Miami Beach in ways it never had been seen before,” he says.

Capitman & Mayor Doud (Art Deco Weekend)
The dedicated and passionate leaders Barbara Capitman and Leonard Horowitz score a big win a get Miami Beach to become the first 20th-century historic district to be added to the National Register.
The Mariel boatlift brings 140,000 Cubans to Florida.
By 1980, South Beach was Florida’s poorest neighborhood, and the Mariel boatlift that year didn’t help matters; 140,000 Cuban refugees streamed into Miami, but many Cubans who had been kicked out from Castro’s jails also ended up here seeking out the cheap rents of South Beach. “ The crime scene put a damper on what was seemingly the most spectacular place on the planet, but the crime scene whether it was cocaine related or the shooting of a tourist, was a constant battle to change and correct, even though it was occasional, one incident became a huge story,” said Orosz.
LGBT
“In this era, the Gay population brought awareness to the arts. It was a very artistic era and they added to the diversity and the culture here and really played a good role in making this destination not only more culturally interesting, but it opened up a lot of doors and brought in a good economic stimulus. “

The Club Scene-- The New American Riviera
Miami Beach had a tremendous turnaround. Once, resided by mostly Jewish retirees, many of them Holocaust survivors, later becomes a nightlife capital in America, as well as an international Mecca that attracts young people from around the world. Orosz recalls some of the most popular night clubs back in the 80s like Club Nu and the Living Room. Washington Avenue became loaded with nightclubs making it the party destination and the new American Riviera. Some big club influencers he says were Tony Goldman and Chris Blackwell, a music guy who bought a group of hotels and packaged them into hip accommodations creating yet another interesting evolution of hospitality. “And we’ve been building on that every since,” he says.

MIAMI BEACH

Bruce Orosz, President and CEO started ACT Productions – his full-service production company for film, video, photography, staging, audio, lighting, tenting and set design – in New York City some 30 years ago and later move himself and ACT Productions to Miami Beach. Major Renovations for Miami Beach Convention Center The Miami Beach Convention Center is being totally re-defined. The new center will be connected to the city’s adjacent historic cultural district and resorts. The project will commence construction in December, 2015 and is projected to be substantially completed by December 2017. The projected date of completion for the park and outdoor public spaces is mid-2018. And as you will see in the renditions of the future center, it is a major overhaul.
A New Headquarter Hotel Adjacent to the Convention Center On May 20, 2015, the City of Miami Beach directed Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales to enter into negotiations with Portman Holdings for the development of an 800-room headquarter hotel on a site adjacent to the Miami Beach Convention Center. Portman Holdings is to privately fund the $405 million hotel and pay the City 4% of the hotel’s gross revenues under a proposed 99-year lease. If the lease agreement is approved by Miami Beach voters in November, the hotel is planned to open prior Art Basel in the late fall of 2018. “We are excited to be delivering what our convention center clients need in order to book events in Miami Beach, without any public incentives or public financing,” said Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine in a recent press release. “The addition of this hotel is an integral component of our plan to revitalize our center and reduce overall traffic by attracting convention events where attendees walk to the convention center and to local restaurants and shops, rather than drive by car.” The plan calls for the development of the hotel on a parking lot behind the Fillmore Theater, adjacent to the new Miami Beach Convention Center. The Fillmore Theater will remain in place and operational during and after the hotel’s construction. The hotel will provide 701 rooms, 99 suites and 95,000 square feet of meeting space. The developer is required to pay for the cost of a sky bridge connecting the hotel to the convention center.
Before Renovations

Miami Beach Development Boom
A
fter the 100 year celebration, Miami Beach residents are proud that all eyes are currently set on this town.
Historically, Miami Beach has been recognized for its Art Deco architecture. Currently we are seeing prestigious developers such as Richard LeFrak enhancing Miami Beach’s reputation as the “American Riviera”. In the past decade developers have been building for more affluent buyers by hiring the most talented architects on the planet. Miami Beach seems to be in another era of historic architecture, kicked off in 2011 by Frank Gehry’s New World Symphony. Soon after, renowned Herzog de Meuron built the most distinctive structure at 1111 Lincoln Road, a parking garage leaving all visitors in awe. The city continues to be in the spotlight when Argentinean hotelier and property developer Alan Faena commissioned, Pritzker Prize Winners, Sir Norman Foster and Rem Koolhaas to create the Faena District. The penthouse at Faena House is rumored to have been sold for a record-breaking $60 Million. Real Estate sales are setting records such as 30 Star Island Drive, which sold for the highest price ever paid on the island at $28 Million. A Condo Unit at the Continuum south also set a record sale of $ 27.5 Million. On South Beach, Sofi condo appreciation rates have climbed 43%. Each month, I will bring you the latest developments, so stay tuned to next month’s Real Estate segment. Pamela Diaz-de-Leon Sims has been a Realtor since 2000 who specializes in high end luxury residences, as well as commercial Real Estate.

MOST POPULAR GOURMET DELICACIES
Caviar Caviar is salt-cured fish eggs from sturgeon traditionally from the Black and Caspian Seas, though due to regulations most Caviar today is farmed. Caviar is strictly from surgeon, whereas other fish eggs may be considered roe. Beluga, Ossetra and Sevruga are the three main varieties of Caviar, and are considered a delicacy throughout the world and due to their rarity, and for their rich creamy flavor and delicate texture. Beluga Caviar may sell up the several thousand of dollar per pound, depending on flavor, size and consistency. Today, some varieties of farm-raised American caviar are considered very high in quality, comparable to Caspian caviar.
Escargot Considered a delicacy in France, these land snails, are usually served as an appetizer, are cooked in butter or wine, and then returned to their sterilized shells and typically served with garlic, herbs or nuts. The most popular varieties of Escargot are “PetitGris”, meaning Little Gray and “Escargot de Bourgogne”, meaning Burgundy Snail.

ybaritism is the art of good life-- enjoying every day of your life. It’s not so important how much money and education you have. The only thing that truly matters is your desire to be better and make those whom you share your life with happier. La vita e bella. Life must be always beautiful but beyond situations such as those suffered in the Second World War and reflected so sublime in the movie by Roberto Benigni which was titled that name and received more than 100 awards including an Oscar, that depicted this way of enjoying life to the fullest, you can start being a happier, better educated and truly enjoy a sybaritic life. Not necessarily elegant, or luxurious (although this does not have to be excluded) nor hedonistic (one dedicated to pleasure), but a kind of holistic life, but from beauty, from the poetry that is your own existence. In future issues, I’ll talk about fine dining and manners, the service, the way to treat your partner and loved ones, and more. Until next time…

Starting sports young has many hidden benefits
Nana’s Preschool and Learning Center in conjunction with the King David Foundation Inc. hosted the Second Annual Soccer Tournament on Nana’s Preschool field located at 1010 South Federal Hwy, Hallandale. Teams from Hallandale, Hollywood and Aventura participated with children ages 6-11. The soccer tournament promotes this sport as recreational and competitive motivation for children to use their free time in healthy lifestyle ways and believes in the use of sports in preventing youth drug problems. Patterns of drug abuse among teens suggest that physical activity can actually strengthen resistance to addiction. Physical activities—particularly in natural environments—offer youth healthy opportunities to learn skills, take risks, and achieve goals. It improves stress levels, as even children suffer from stress nowadays and keeps their weight in check. The other great thing about children and sports is that it’s a great opportunity to share fun times with each other. So encourage your children to join a sports team over the summer.

Zero Energy Furniture Line

Muebles Zero Energía
This incredibly smart furniture can actually help cut down on energy bills. The materials used for this table absorb heat and then later release it when temperatures drop back down below 71 degrees Fahrenheit. Hiding underneath this seemingly average table is a wax-based material that softens when heat is absorbed and later re-hardens with cooler temperatures, causing that stored heat to be released. Corrugated aluminum encases this waxy “sponge” and helps direct the heat in and out. Developers Jean-Sebastien Lagrange and Raphael Menard plan to incorporate this technology into lighting and other home goods as these would provide additional heat that can be stored for later use.
“Instant Meditation” with the Lucia N3 Hypnagogic Light Machine
Meditación Instantánea con el Lucia N3 Hypnagogic Light Machine Developed by a neurologist-psychologist duo from Austria, the Lucia N3 has the ability to stimulate temporary EEG brain wave patterns that are usually only achieved after years of practicing meditation. Using this advanced machinery, white light is passed through the retina and into the pineal gland (aka the Third Eye) which generates a visual trip unique to each individual. Coupled with music to enhance the experience, one’s inner consciousness creates visions that are unimaginably beautiful. The result is an elevated state of awareness. Some of the reported benefits include stress relief, increased creativity, better sleep and improvement in self-esteem.
Golden Biostamp Can Read your Mind
A thin, light patch of gold can now be used to transmit thoughts and feelings. These flexible, mini-sensors are adhered to a person’s temple and monitored by computers. Brain waves are tracked and transmitted in real-time. The computer then processes the waves into messages using a “spelling interface” and virtual keyboard display. The stamp is completely waterproof so it can be used on or under the skin. Scientists are now looking into new applications for this technology that could mean electronics that are integrated or implanted into the skin.
Dish’s Sling Internet TV Now Includes Univision
Dish’s Sling Internet TV ahora incluye a Univision Earlier this year, Dish announced its $20 a month Internet TV streaming service Sling TV. This new service package includes live and on-demand online streaming of programming from participating television networks. Most recently, Univision has joined the likes of ESPN, TNT, CNN, Disney Channel and others who are providing content for Sling TV. The new streaming service is Dish’s attempt to make up for losses from “cord-cutters” that are opting out of paid cable and satellite offerings and have turned to the Internet for their favorite shows. For now, Dish is limiting this service to invite-only trials, but once the service is open to the public Univision programming will likely be part of the Spanish-language package which may be an additional $5 per month.

LOTION SICKNESS NOT SO FINGER LICKIN GOOD
H
appy Father’s Day to everyone! I am a Dog Dad of four. Maltese Dogs are considered the dogs of a million kisses. Our cats learned from living with us, they give some great kitty kisses especially after our Mom takes a shower and applies her body lotion. Now that she is aware that her lotions and potions can cause us to become sick she doesn’t let us kissy lick her anymore afterwards. Topical human medication that contained flurbiprofen has been linked to the death of cats. The lotions, potions and medications are absorbed when pets come into contact with them by rubbing or licking their owners. Rapunzel our red tabby loves to lick our Mom’s feet after she puts on her foot cream. She is going to have to find another snack from now on. Rapunzel also loves to lick the low sugar popsicles too until we found out that the ingredients in no sugar snacks also are poisonous to pets. We found a new popsicle called Enlightened the good for you ice cream that does not have any GMO, Gluten or artificial sweeteners that is ok for a few licks for desert. Our family always has to have desert. My Dad loved coconut cream pie and chocolate éclairs. Yummy but not good for the tummy. If we are exposed to NSAIDs for humans we can develop fatal kidney and liver failure. We can also develop stomach and intestinal ulcers. Topical hormone replacement creams, sprays, room deodorizers the spray falls to the floor and is absorbed into your pets paw pads, perfume as well, all can be fatal to your pets. I guess I should design an after shower muzzle for animals. “Romuzzle” how does that sound? Be careful your pets don’t get to your Father’s Day gifts of colognes and chocolates before your Father does it could be not so finger lickin good!
