e have a fantastic issue full of fabulous fashions gracing our pages, travel ideas, fitness tips, celebrities, real estate news, parties, events, things to do and so much more. And it’s spring! I love spring. It’s a time of growth, renewal, new life, and cleansing. So, if you want to bloom, take some time to revisit your life and clear out what doesn’t serve you. As I do every year, I would like to dedicate this issue to the unconditional woman in my life, my mom and to all our moms reading this. I would also like to ask everyone that is reading this to take a few moments of silent prayer to remember the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, something in our Broward community that should have never happened and that we should never forget. I have no words…

The Riviera Maya is one of the most desired vacation spots in the world, renowned for spectacular resorts, fabulous restaurants, stunning beaches and Mexican hospitality.

ow many who travel to the Riviera Maya have set their eyes on the “Boho Chic” town of Tulum, 90 minutes south of Cancun. While its 1,000-year-old beachside ruins are definitely worthy of a visit, it’s not the Mayan influence that has inspired an incredible spike in tourism. Magnificently nestled between jungle and beach, Tulum has become the hottest spot in the Yucatan Peninsula and a popular haven for celebrities. It’s a perfect destination to disconnect as it offers a quiet, quality eco-friendly getaway. From Skyscrapers resembling Brickell’s Skyline in Miami to the old world charm of Panama Viejo, Panama is definitely a city of contrasts. Argentine, Colombian, and Venezuelan buyers have helped keep the Panama City market stable and growing over the last 10 years, while other markets in this region struggled or collapsed. In the past few years, it’s had a great influx of Venezuelans fleeing from their country and settling down there. Today, North Americans and Europeans continue to invest, but it’s Panama’s new relationship with China that will fuel this economy through its next stage of growth.
Sightseeing Around Panama City A must see is Panama Viejo, the remaining part of the old Panama City and former capital of the country. It is located in the suburbs of the modern city. Together with the historical district of Panamá, it has been a World Heritage Site since 1997.
Amador Causeway Built from excavated rocks from the construction of the Panama Canal is the 6 kilometers (3.73 miles) roadway that connects three islands known as the Amador Causeway. Popular among local Panamanians, it is lined with restaurants and shops, and you can bike along the causeway.
Casco Viejo, also known as Casco Antiguo or San Felipe, is the historic
district of Panama City. Completed and settled in 1673, it was built following the near-total destruction of the original Panamá. Here you’ll find a lovely local Cathedral, Interoceanic Museum, and other historic sites.

You can’t go to Panana without visiting the Panama canal. There you will find a museum with exhibits, interactive displays, a movie and an open air terrace for close-ups views of ships transiting through the locks. Here you can watch as the Panama Canal feeds into the Pacific Ocean, with the opening directly in front of the Miraflores Locks for viewers to watch in awe as the Canal works its wonders. It has just completed an expansion program costing billions of dollars and now allowing it to handle the world’s biggest ships.

Designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, it is his first design for Latin America. The museum contains eight exhibitions, led by the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Panama, that mainly revolve around the idea of Panama’s biodiversity.
Portobelo
A Caribbean seaside sleepy town that was originally named Puerto Bello, which translates to Beautiful Port, over time became what is Portobelo today. Built by the Spanish to protect their riches from the pirates in the 18th century, Portobelo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with respect to the small town’s big, rich history. Often lost in the shuffle of larger, more popular nearby Caribbean towns like Colon and Bocas del Toro, Portobelo is a quaint paradise. You can take a ferry to Isla Grande, which has a lovely beach. There you can rent beach chairs and even have a quiet beachside lunch.
San Blas Islands
This island chain is perfect for sailing, diving, and snorkeling. Backpackers often unite on the San Blas islands on the Caribbean Sea, as do travelers on a budget. Though there are also high-end resorts here, too. The islands have a rustic feel and are very popular among locals.

The Bridge of the Americas The Puente de las Americas— in English Bridge of the Americas—is a road bridge that stretches over the entrance of the Panama Canal, connecting Panama City to inland areas on the Pacific Coast. At one end you will find the Mirador, with an unusual Chinese Memorial monument, built in memory of the Chinese community that moved to Panama at the end of the 1800s to build Panama’s railroad.

There are lots of gastronomically delightful venues.Places I visited were Segundo Muelle, a Peruvian seafood restaurant with a view of the bay. Tantalo Kitchen in Casco Viejo had great tapas. It has a great rooftop bar and dancing with live music and a stunning view of the city.

The Holiday Inn Express Panama Distrito Financiero is a nice spot as it is very centrally located and they have a nice breakfast buffet and all the standard facilities. There are a number of hotels in Panama City. The Crowne Plaza Panama has a lovely property. The InterContinental Miramar Panama is outstanding and has dinner at their on-site restaurant called Bay View. The Crowne Plaza Panama Airport is super conveniently located and recently refurbished and has a dinner buffet at the hotel’s Jetstream Grill.

Yo diría que la más famosa fue cuando dije que estaba embarazada de mi hijo y nadie lo podía creer, también cuando me compararon con Iris Chacón, porque para aquel entonces la vedette, Iris Chacón era muy famosa y la reina de las portadas, entonces a nosotras nos comparaban mucho… ella era la reina en su tiempo y yo la de ahora. Nosotras hemos trabajado juntas, trabajé en la obra de teatro “Malas” con ella. Te puedo decir que la quiero como una madre, de vez en cuando nos escribimos, es una persona tan real, tan sencilla, humilde y sincera, que la quiero muchísimo y si nos parecemos mucho. Y es que no son pocos los años que tiene Maripily Rivera lidiando con los vaivenes del mundo del entretenimiento y bien sabe esta boricua que su brillo ha cegado a miles al punto de querer opacarla con comentarios malsanos. Yo siempre he hecho ejercicio, pero en mis 40 años es cuando más firme me puse, todo es cuestión de alimentación y entrenamiento, además que quiero competir y verme cada día mejor. El secreto está en comer saludable tus 5 comidas, la cantidad que necesite tu cuerpo, hacer cardio 45 minuto dos veces al día, –uno por la mañana y otro por la nochey una hora de entrenamiento En Puerto Rico me decían también. ¿En qué piensas competir? En una competencia de bodybuilding que se va a efectuar a finales de Abril, o puede ser ya entrado Junio. Mi papá competía cuando yo era niña y recuerdo verlo entrenar y ganarse premios, y es algo que el siempre quiso que hicieran sus hijos. Entonces creo que soy yo la que lleva eso en la sangre, además soy la más apegada a él. ¿Cómo empezaste tu línea de ropa? Bueno yo veía a mi mamá siempre de niña cosiendo los uniformes de mi escuela, con una máquina de coser de pedales y eso viene como en la sangre. Después mi mamá quería hacer su propia línea pero lamentablemente murió en un accidente de carro, ella me dejo un dinero, y yo con ese dinero realicé su sueño. Y hoy por hoy pues tengo mi empresa que lleva 16 años de éxito, no solo en Puerto Rico, pero también internacionalmente. LLeva mi nombre, es mi propia marca, y la clave en que haya sido una línea exitosa hasta el sol de hoy es que hago muchas variedades poca cantidad, para que la gente vea diferentes cosas de todo. Tengo traje de baño, ropa deportiva, jeans y ropa interior. Tengo dos socios y nos va muy bien gracias a Dios. Sí he tenido competencia pero para mí no ha sido una baja, porque yo digo que aquí hay espacio para todos. Para mí es muy importante el término de precios razonables, para que el público tenga acceso a toda mi línea de ropa. Maripily son más de 20 años en el mundo del espectáculo… cada día nos sorprendes más con todas las facetas que has logrado abarcar con éxito… modelo, empresaria, diseñadora, actriz, animadora… ¿En cuál de estas facetas sientes que eres verdaderamente tú? La parte en que me siento más realizada es como madre…eso es lo primordial en Maripily, yo soy más madre que mujer, de ahí pues viene mi estabilidad, es lo que me mantiene viva y es el balance de mi carrera, y gracias a papá Dios he sabido hacer las cosas bien. Eres conocida por no tener “pelos en la lengua” ¿Alguna vez tu forma de ser te ha costado algo que verdaderamente querías? Bueno me ha causado muchos problemas. Lo que pasa es que yo soy una mujer real.
Lo que ves es lo que soy, y digo las cosas según lo que sienta. Y no todo el mundo está acostumbrado a que le digan la verdad. Cuando tú le dices a la gente la verdad como yo, pues tiendes a caer mal o a ser catalogada como una mujer problemática o controversial. Y pues, yo prefiero ser real a ser hipócrita. Lo que siento es lo que digo y lo que soy es lo que ves. Yo no soporto ser una mujer hipócrita. Ni como madre ni como amiga ni como hermana.
Has participado en muchos programas de televisión, en todo tipo de formato, ¿Cuál cuál volverías encantada? A mí me gustaría…bueno la gente ha tenido la oportunidad de verme bailando, cocinando, haciendo retos, animando programas de tv, actuando… ¡me han visto en todo! Yo disfruté mucho “Mira quién baila”. Ahí descubrí la bailarina que había en mí, que no conocía… pude realizar muchos baile. The Sacred Responsibility OF CHILDBIRTH According to Ayurveda, childbirth is a precious gift of nature that we must accept with responsibility. Ayurvedic Perspective on Purity, Strength & Rejuvenation Before Pregnancy When the lymph and blood in our bodies are pure, they contribute to the formation of nutritional fluids which will produce healthy tissues. The outcome of these healthy tissues is called Ojas. While there is no exact translation of this Sanskrit word, it could be referred to the essence of our tissues that when combined with the reproductive fluids, it will form a healthy fetus in the womb. Incluso un fértil trozo de tierra que no está bien preparado puede no producir un árbol sano. Ayurveda pone especial énfasis en la preparación de cuerpo y mente para el proceso de concepción. Últimamente le gusta llevar su cabello recogido para una apariencia más definida y controlada. Queríamos hacerlo un poco más atrevido, así que hicimos una coleta larga y elegante. Partimos el cabello hacia abajo en el centro y luego varias pulgadas desde la base de la cola de caballo donde otro elástico le dio un poco más de un estilo. ¿Cómo es tu relación con Gina / cómo es el ambiente de preparación? Siempre escuchamos música. En cualquier lugar, desde Beyoncé hasta Alabama Shakes. Tratamos de mantener todo lo más calmado posible en un día tan agitado. Me gusta darle un poco más de amor en estos días que son realmente estresantes. Tenemos pequeños descansos donde bailamos y mantenemos la situación lo más relajada y felices que podemos. She has been liking her hair pulled back lately for a more controlled, put together look. We wanted to make it a bit edgier, so we did a long, sleek ponytail. Parted down the center and then several inches from the base of the ponytail is another elastic that gave it a bit more of an edge. What’s your relationship with Gina / what’s it like getting ready in the room? We always listen to music. Anywhere from Beyoncé to Alabama Shakes. We really try to keep everything as calm as possible on such a hectic day. I like to give her a bit more love on these really stressful days. We have little dance breaks and keep things really relaxed and happy.
To get the look: 1. Prep damp hair using TRESemmé Repair & Protect 7 Pre-Styling Spray 2. Blow dry smooth and straight in sections from nape up, then flatiron in small sections to achieve a sleek look. 3. No es de extrañar ya que han brillantemente llevado el concepto de las tapas a un nuevo nivel de la cocina japonesa, que ofrece venturosas versiones de pequeños platos, perfectos para compartir o probar la auténtica comida japonesa. ¡Una variedad de pequeñas entradas que lo convierten en el perfecto festín culinario! Si eres como yo, que no puedes decidir qué ordenar fácilmente, puedes optar por numerosas delicadeces pequeñas, del extenso y único menú de Yakko- San que no se consiguen en la mayoría de los restaurantes japoneses. Puedes mezclar y combinar un sinnúmero de estas tapas japonesas y mejor aún, a precios muy cómodo. Para aquellos antojados de comida japonesa tradicional o platillos nipones menos conocidos como las ostras Panko-crusted, la sopa en olla caliente Kim Chee, Bok Choy crujiente o el pescado Kawahagi trigger, el restaurant Yakko- San se especializa en comida gourmet japonesa y cuenta con una atmósfera relajada pero con mucho estilo. Vodka con Pepino !Es perfecto y súper refrescante para la primavera!
INGREDIENTES: Para una bebida.
1/3 de Pepino. Vodka. Cointreau o Triple Sec. 2 Crdts de Azúcar. 1/2 Limón. Tónica o Agua con gas. Hielo.
PREPARACIÓN:
Cortas el pepino en finas rodajas (yo las prefiero gruesas para este cóctel). En un vaso de boca ancha (de whisky) o una copa de balón, pones mínimo 3 cubos de hielo. Busca un vaso de chupito. Agrega al
vaso con hielo 1 y medio de chupito de Vodka, luego medio chupito de Cointreau. Sigue con las 2 cucharaditas de azúcar. Ahora remueve un poco para que se mezcle bien el azúcar con el licor. Exprime el medio limón en el vaso. Agrega la tónica o el agua con gas. Son dos líquidos diferentes, pero dejo a su elección la aventura. Mezclar todo en el vaso por 10 segundos y listo. Decore con una rodaja de limón o de pepino. Espero que les guste. Ya me contaran.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR DOG IS CHOKING

ogs are curious creatures and love to put interesting items in their mouth. My Mom only buys toys she investigates are safe however there is always the chance that we dogs can choke not only on food but our toys. Be most cautious with small balls. Especially if you have cats also and their tiny toys are all over your floor. Rawhide, bones, plastic bags and any plastic toys could be a potential hazard. If you see your dog making retching motions pacing back and forth and pawing at its mouth your dog’s chest may be heaving. If you suspect your dog is choking pull its tongue forward and remove the foreign object if possible. If you cannot see anything, use the canine Heimlich maneuver. • Large Dog: Stand behind your dog and place your arms around his body. Make a fist with one hand and place the thumb of that hand against your dog’s abdomen just where the sternum ends. With the other hand, grasp your fist and push upward and forward (toward the dog’s shoulders), suddenly and forcefully. Do this thrusting motion four or five times. Check the dog’s airway again and clear any debris from the mouth. Repeat the chest thrusts if necessary. If the dog is unconscious, clear the airway and perform rescue breathing. • Small Dog: Hold the dog with her head up so that her spine is against your chest. Make a fist with one hand and place it against your dog’s abdomen just where the sternum ends. Grasp the fist with your other hand and give four or five rapid thrusts inward and upward. Check the dog’s airway again and clear any debris from the mouth. Repeat the chest thrusts if necessary. If the dog is unconscious, clear the airway and perform rescue breathing. In addition, I would like to mention that choke chains strangle your dog and cause damage, pain, behavioral problems and are linked to injured ocular eye blood vessels, tracheal and esophageal damage, severely sprained necks, fainting, transient foreleg paralysis, laryngeal nerve paralysis hind leg ataxia. Teach your dog don’t choke them.
