Dear Friends, If you are a gardens enthusiast with a curious mind for unique travel experiences, then you will delight in Holbrook’s newest collection of boutique, small-group garden tours. Immerse yourself in the world’s finest gardens – natural and curated, public and private – as you discover the local flavor and culture of the destination. Holbrook Garden Tours are designed for those who enjoy getting “off the beaten path,” far away from crowded tourist attractions. Each itinerary is different, but each features unique experiences for flora enthusiasts with curious minds and a passion for gardens. Included in this catalog are several enriching new tours, augmented by local experts who will give you the chance to learn more about the destinations you visit. We frequently hear from travelers how much they appreciate the “behindthe-scenes” encounters with directors, curators, or horticulturists at the various gardens they visit. They especially like meeting and traveling with those who share a similar interest, and bringing non-gardening partners and friends, who always enjoy the activities. With over 40 years of experience, Holbrook Travel has unmatched expertise in researching, planning, and operating worldwide expeditions. This means you can travel with confidence, knowing that our professional team will take care of all the details. INTERNATIONAL GARDEN TOURS | The Holbrook Difference

GARDEN VISIT IN CUBA

Whether you are seeking a tried-and-true experience or a garden expedition customized to your needs, Holbrook is adept at combining your specific interest in gardens with a multitude of cultural, environmental, or adventure-based activities. Botanical & Cultural Experiences, Iconic International Destinations Holbrook’s carefully crafted itineraries combine iconic, must-see landmarks with visits to renowned gardens and nature preserves. Designed primarily for flora enthusiasts, we work to tailor each program to the goals of our institutional partners and their communities.

Learn from the Experts In addition to the group leader(s) from the sponsoring garden or institution, our journeys provide a specialist local guide to enhance your experience, offering a wealth of information. These guides impart in-depth knowledge about each place you visit and often have expertise in botany and natural history.

Travel with Like-minded People Traveling with people who have a common interest is a great way to make new friends. Share your botanical knowledge and experience with guests while learning from them in return. Come away with enduring camaraderie and a shared life experience.

Companions & Non-Gardeners Most of our programs are suitable for a variety of ages and different life experiences, making for a dynamic and interesting group. Traveling companions with different interests are welcome. If one of the partners isn’t quite as enthusiastic about visiting gardens as the other, there are ample opportunities to take part in non-garden related sightseeing and activities. 4

Why sponsor a Garden Tour? There are many benefits: • • • • • • •

Increase both membership and donor participation. Create a lasting connection between directors and members. Get inspiration for your organization and members by exploring public and private gardens in different countries. Connect generations, including teen members of your garden, with intergenerational programs. Link research projects, conservation projects, affiliates, and sponsors of your group to the various countries visited. Raise funding levels with donations built into the cost of the program and seed post-travel donor activity. Tailor your program to your horticulture program through our experienced consultants.

Holbrook Travel did a beautiful

job in organizing two Missouri Botanical Garden trips to China. Pat and I would highly recommend their travel services to anyone!

— Peter H. Raven, President Emeritus, Missouri Botanical Garden

Traveling to other countries is one

of the most educational and enjoyable activities anyone can undertake! Thanks to Holbrook Travel we have been able to share some the most beautiful and biodiverse parts of our planet with our friends and supporters at the National Tropical Botanical Garden. From the tip of South America, to the tip of South Africa and back to the rainforests of Costa Rica and then down to the beauty of New Zealand, Holbrook Travel has taken us there and back in comfort and safety. Meet Sandy Schmidt Garden Tours Director

Sandy Schmidt began her career with Holbrook Travel in 1992, shortly after obtaining a degree in horticulture from the University of Florida. Her time at Holbrook has given her numerous opportunities to travel to places like the Galápagos Islands, Peru, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Chile, and Argentina — just to name a few. After several years working as a specialty travel consultant, Sandy combined her touring expertise with her knowledge of flora, creating Holbrook’s International Garden Tours. Sandy has worked with thousands of clients who care deeply about nature and gardens and who appreciate the world’s vastly different cultures. She holds a passion for garden tours and keeps coming up with exciting programs year after year. Through Sandy, Holbrook became a corporate gold member of the American Public Gardens Association (APGA) and attends its annual conference every summer. 5

HOW WE SUPPORT YOUR ORGANIZATION

I now realize what an important role a trip can play in bringing our mission to the center of the experience. When planning our trip, it became apparent that visiting places where biodiversity is of such critical importance would allow us to have conversations within our trip and how our role fits together to support our mission and hopefully will allow more connections with our donors. — Kathy Hong, retired Director of Philanthropy at National Tropical Botanical Garden

DESIGNING TOURS THAT BUILD LOYALTY Holbrook Garden Tours are an excellent way for travel organizations to increase their member loyalty and support their overall mission. We curate activities for the inquisitive garden enthusiast, tailored to the goals of each institutional partner and its community. Most organizations choose to send a staff member on the trip, providing the continuity and the tone for a warmer relationship that can lead to increased funding and positive word of mouth. But what really builds loyalty are the special touches Holbrook provides, making each program unique to that group.

PLANNING A TOUR IS EASY Using one of Holbrook’s designed itineraries, the sponsoring group can turn to us to make the process go smoothly. We can provide as much or as little as you need in preparation for your program.

Here’s how it works: • Consult with a Holbrook specialty travel consultant to identify the dates, audience, and market you envision for your program. • Decide on a tried-and-true itinerary or customize one with your specialist. • Once you accept the trip proposal, we can handle all reservations, documentation, payments, questions, air reservations, and anything else the participants desire, including pre- and postprogram extensions. • We provide references from other chairs and organizations as to the quality, safety, and thoroughness of our programming. • We provide periodic check-in calls regarding the planning, safety and security, and logistics of your program. • We develop materials promoting your program. Our marketing support services include: −− Tour brochure and webpage −− PowerPoint or Keynote presentations −− Signage for meetings or informational sessions −− Any other services you might need for marketing your trip Fuchsia magellanica, QUITO BOTANICAL GARDENS

Our travels with Holbrook to Cuba, South Africa and Madagascar have been the best. We have

traveled with other companies but Holbrook makes us feel safe and well cared for and bends over backwards to make sure everyone in the group is happy.

— Leslie and Julian Duval, President & CEO, San Diego Botanic Garden

My experience with Holbrook Travel has been exceptional. This was my first trip with you and as

a tour leader. The amazing itinerary you put together coupled with the pre-tour coaching and advice made me shine. Providing a botanist to accompany our group made the flora of Cuba come alive — a really nice touch. Look forward to planning the next trip!
