Old Ottawa East is a small community located East of the Rideau Canal, South of the 417. The community currently consists primarily of small residential homes. This family neighbourhood is growing rapidly as the city of Ottawa expands its rapid bus transit system in order to move people towards the growing downtown core. In order to help bridge the existing neighbourhood from the current low rise residential homes to the proposed high rise condo developments to the South or the proposed site, the master plan looks at creating a permeable pedestrian friendly community with active outdoor amenities. The site consists of a mix of low rise family oriented developments, senior oriented condos, and community amenities such as parks, office space, restaurants and auxiliary spaces for local schools. The proposed housing design is a multi level stacked town house complex aimed at low income families. The complex provides amenities such as private outdoor space, storage and private parking in a densified setting. The proposed plan aims to provide the luxuries of the suburban lifestyle in an urban setting.

AXO DIAGRAM 1:500 In order to provide family style living in a denser environment the townhouse complex puzzles together both townhomes and apartment style units in a configuration which allows for open air and access to light. The townhomes have been arranged so that all units have access to outdoor green spaces. This is provided either through ground access or elevated green terraces. The care for family living is even taken into consideration in the parking scheme. The underground garage is complete with direct access to ground level units and easy elevator access to second and third story units. All parking stalls have adjacent storage areas in order to provide a necessary amenity for family living.

ENTREPENEURIAL CENTER
& CO.
& CO., A co-working and entrepreneurial center is situated in Ottawa's vibrant community of Little Italy. The community is marked by an eclectic mix of shops, small businesses and restaurants. The area’s main axis, Preston Street, stretches from Dows lake to the South, to Ottawas Downtown to the North.
U RO
The location of this community is ideal. Its proximity to Dows lake connects it to a variety of walking trails along the Rideau Canal and scenic views. As well the area is ideal for transit. It is connected to the city's current LRT which allows for easy access to the current Rapid transit Highway , providing a short commute downtown. A secondary LRT line is currently being constructed which would further facilitate transit to and from the community.

The community of Little Italy and the city of Ottawa has seen a great deal of growth and development over the last few decades. The historic community consists primarily of two story converted brick homes and is seeing the rise of three new condominiums towering at approximately 40 storys tall. The condominiums will help to bring a younger generation of residents to the community. The rise a younger generation in Ottawa has bought with it young entrepreneurs who’s a-typical businesses do not fit the office lifestyle.

My goal in designing & Co. was to create a space that reflected both the current historical style of the neighborhood but addressed the issues young entrepreneurs face in finding suitable work spaces for their out of the box businesses. The entrepreneurial center features a coffee shop, resource library, a shop space for small vendors to promote their items, both private and shared office space for rent, a board room, a two bedroom apartment unit for the buildings owner and landlord, and a one bedroom micro unit for small term leases for urban professionals visiting the capital on business ventures.

The Carpe River, a small river surrounded by Ottawa's agricultural fields and the suburb of Kanata, is at high risk of flooding due to the numerous human alterations to its natural form. Proposed is a development centered around the future Light Rail Transit corridor slated for construction within the next 20 years. The transit line is anchored in community and institutional spaces as a means to reduce dependence on vehicular transportation in the local area. The master plan for this community aims to create a healthy active environment for the residents while promoting natural habitat around the Carpe River.

AERIAL SIGHT PLAN True North Wellness center is located along the Ottawa river at an integral location in Canada's cultural identity. The proposed site intersects Canada's cultural ring. A ring of cultural landmarks which surround the Ottawa river spanning both the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. The cultural ring includes Canadian Parliament, the Trans Canada Trail, The National Art Gallery, The Canadian War Museum, The Museum of Natural History and the National Art Center. This location adjacent to iconic Canadian landmarks offers a unique opportunity to highlight Canadian Culture. In order to take advantage of the location the Wellness Center is designed to promote healthy living through mental health and active living programs enabled by the buildings design. Using the Trans Canada Trail as a way to connect and engage with a more national landscape the site sits on a park designed to mimic and exaggerate the seven unique ecological zones that make up the nations unique ecology. By integrating aspects of the Canadian landscape into the park the Wellness Center creates an active outdoor space that helps to connect visitors to both the capital and the nation itself.

The True North Wellness Center aims to provide wellness education and programs aided by the buildings design, through connectivity with the exterior landscape as well as an enhanced indoor experience through the implementation of indoor greenery and natural light. The buildings large central atrium connects the buildings programs with one another. The atrium features a large skylight above allowing sunlight to enter the central space constantly during the day. The skylight is a linear element in the buildings plan and is unobstructed throughout. The skylight element connects the buildings North and South entrances through this unobstructed path simplifying the buildings circulation. In order to reinforce the exterior landscape the central atrium also features an expansive green wall visible from both the upper and lower levels. This green wall helps to improve air quality throughout the wellness center. This experience is maximized by its central location and adjacency to the open staircase. A large part of the True North Wellness Centers program is to be focused on healthy lifestyle. In order to provide the necessary programs the building features have a kitchen with and interior garden. The exterior gardens can be used during the spring and summer months and feature both aromatic flowers as well as fruits and vegetables suitable for the Northern climate. The kitchen garden uses grey water from the landscape pond and grows herbs and small plants suitable for low light conditions in order to help supplement food for cooking programs.
