Dr. Emily Letran: Strategic Steps to Success
By Brandon Webster
Dr. Emily Letran’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. From arriving in the United States as a refugee at 13 years old to becoming a successful dentist, author, and high-performance coach, her story is a testament to resilience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth. As the owner of two multi-specialty dental practices in Southern California, Dr. Letran balances her career with a rich family life, all while contributing significantly to her community. In this article, we delve into her background, her philosophy on success, and the strategies she employs to achieve her remarkable accomplishments.
Dr. Emily Letran’s story begins in Vietnam, where she was born. At the age of 13, she and her aunt’s family fled to the United States as refugees. This significant transition marked the start of her incredible journey. Despite the hardships and uncertainties, young Emily was determined to make the most of the opportunities presented to her in her new home. Emily’s academic journey is nothing short
of impressive. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, Riverside, in just three years, graduating magna cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Her relentless pursuit of excellence continued as she attended the UCLA School of Dentistry, where she was a recipient of the prestigious Dean’s Apollonian Scholarship. Simultaneously, she earned her Master of Science in Oral Biology, completing both programs in four years.
Following her graduation, Dr. Letran participated in a General Practice Residency at Loma Linda VA Medical Center and a mini-residency at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center. These experiences equipped her with specialized training in treating geriatric and medically compromised patients, further enhancing her expertise in the field of dentistry. Today, Dr. Emily Letran is the proud owner of two multi-specialty dental group practices in Southern California and practices along her daughter, Dr. Jennifer Nguyen, who graduated 3 decades after mom, from the same dental school at UCLA. Her clinics
are known for providing comprehensive dental care and maintaining high standards of patient satisfaction. As a general dentist, she continually updates her skills by taking courses in clinical dentistry, practice management, and marketing. Her dedication to continuous learning ensures that her patients receive the best care possible.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Letran is a prolific author. Her books, including “From Refugee to Renaissance Woman” and “Commit to Embracing Your Big Life,” offer readers insights into her life journey and practical strategies for building a successful business. One of the most remarkable aspects of Dr. Letran’s life is her ability to balance her professional career with her personal life. Humor and interactivity play crucial roles in keeping the audience engaged and making the message more impactful.Central to Dr. Letran’s philosophy is the idea that courage and energy are essential for achieving success. Courage involves taking risks and stepping out of one’s comfort zone, while energy is about maintaining the stamina to keep going despite challenges. Dr. Letran’s success as a speaker and coach is partly due to her ability to craft powerful messages. She understands the importance of tailoring her message to her audience’s experiences and needs. For instance, when speaking to an audience of women, she shares stories about balancing motherhood and career. When addressing immigrants, she draws on her
own experiences as a refugee to connect with their struggles and aspirations. Consistency and practice are also crucial for effective communication. BUILDING A STRONG PERSONAL BRAND Insights from Producer Valeri Manziuk
Building a strong personal brand has become essential for success in today's highly competitive and interconnected world. Whether you're an aspiring entrepreneur, a seasoned professional, or an artist, your personal brand sets you apart and communicates your unique value to the world. As a producer with years of experience in the entertainment industry, I've seen firsthand the power of a well-crafted personal brand. Here are ten recommendations to help you build a solid personal brand.
1
UNDERSTAND YOUR UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION
The foundation of any solid personal brand is a clear understanding of what makes you unique. Your unique value proposition (UVP) is the combination of your skills, experiences, values, and passions that distinguishes you from others. To identify your UVP, start by asking yourself the following questions: What are my core strengths and talents? What experiences have shaped who I am today?
What am I passionate about?
What do others consistently praise me for?
Once you clearly understand your UVP, you can craft a personal brand that authentically represents you and what you offer.
2
DEFINE YOUR BRAND VISION AND MISSION
Your brand vision is the long-term impact you want to have, while your mission is the purpose that drives your daily actions. Together, they provide direction and focus for your personal brand. To define your vision and mission, consider the following: What legacy do I want to leave? What positive change do I want to contribute to the world?
What motivates and inspires me?
By clearly articulating your vision and mission, you create a roadmap for
your personal brand that helps you stay aligned with your goals and values.
3
DEVELOP A CONSISTENT BRAND MESSAGE
Consistency is critical to building a recognizable and trustworthy personal brand. Your brand message should be consistent across all platforms and communications, from your social media profiles to your resume and website. This includes your tone of voice, visual style, and critical messages. To ensure consistency, consider the following:
- Create a brand style guide that outlines your visual and verbal guidelines.
- Regularly review and update your online presence to ensure it aligns with your brand.
- Use the same profile picture and bio across all social media platforms. By maintaining consistency, you create a cohesive brand identity that is easily recognizable and trustworthy.
4
LEVERAGE SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media is a powerful tool for building and promoting your personal brand. It lets you showcase your expertise, connect with your audience, and engage with industry influencers. To effectively leverage social media, consider the following:
- Choose the Right Platforms: Focus on the platforms where your target audience is most active.
- Share Valuable Content: Post regularly and share content that showcases your expertise and provides value to your audience.
- Engage with Your Audience: Respond to comments, participate in discussions, and build relationships with your followers. You can build a solid online presence and expand your reach by actively engaging on social media.
5
NETWORK AND BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
Building a strong personal brand is
not just about self-promotion; it's also about building relationships. Networking allows you to connect with others in your industry, learn from their experiences, and create opportunities for collaboration. To build a strong network, consider the following:
- Attend industry events and conferences.
- Join professional organizations and online communities.
- Reach out to influencers and thought leaders in your field.
By building a strong network, you can create valuable connections that support your personal brand and open doors to new opportunities.
6
SHOWCASE YOUR EXPERTISE
One of the most effective ways to build your personal brand is by showcasing your expertise. This can be done through various channels, such as writing articles, speaking at events, or creating online courses. To showcase your knowledge, consider the following:
- Start a blog or contribute to industry publications.
- Speak at conferences, webinars, or podcasts.
- Create and share educational content, such as videos or infographics.
Demonstrating your knowledge and expertise establishes yourself as a credible authority in your field.
7
BE AUTHENTIC
Authenticity is crucial to building a strong personal brand. People are drawn to genuine and relatable individuals, so it's important to be true to yourself and your values. To maintain authenticity, consider the following:
- Be honest and transparent in your communications.
- Share your personal stories and experiences.
- Stay true to your values and principles, even when challenging.
Being authentic builds trust and credibility with your audience, essential for a strong personal brand.
8
SEEK FEEDBACK AND ADAPT
Building a personal brand is an ongoing process that requires continuous improvement. Seeking feedback from others can provide valuable insights and help you identify areas for growth. To gather feedback and adapt, consider the following:
- Ask for feedback from mentors, colleagues, and your audience.
- Regularly review your brand performance and make adjustments as needed.
- Stay updated with industry trends and adapt your brand strategy accordingly. You can continuously refine and strengthen your brand by being open to feedback and willing to adapt.
9
CREATE A PERSONAL BRAND STATEMENT
A personal brand statement is a concise and compelling summary of who you are, what you do, and what you stand for. It should capture the essence of your personal brand and communicate it clearly to your audience. To create a strong
personal brand statement, consider the following:
- Keep it Short and Focused: Aim for one to two sentences encapsulating your brand.
- Highlight your UVP: Emphasize what makes you unique and valuable.
- Make it Memorable: Use language that is engaging and impactful.
By crafting a powerful personal brand statement, you create a clear and compelling message that resonates with your audience.
10
STAY COMMITTED AND PATIENT
Building a strong personal brand takes time and effort. It's essential to stay committed to your brand strategy and be patient as you work towards your goals. Remember that building a personal brand is a long-term investment in your future. To stay committed and patient, consider the following:
- Set realistic and achievable goals for your personal brand.
- Celebrate your progress and achieve-
ments along the way.
- Stay focused on your vision and mission, even when faced with challenges. By staying committed and patient, you can build a strong and enduring personal brand that supports your longterm success.

By following these ten recommendations, you can create a personal brand that authentically represents who you are and effectively communicates your unique value to the world. As you embark on this journey, remember that your personal brand is not just about self-promotion; it's about creating a positive impact and building meaningful relationships. Stay true to yourself, continuously seek growth, and embrace the power of your personal brand to achieve your goals and make a difference in your field.
OSCARS MUSEUM ACCEPTS 12 JAMES BOND DRAWINGS
The Academy Museum has accepted 12 of the drawings by John McLusky, which made James Bond famous.
The books and short story collections, written by Ian Fleming, weren't previously popular. He was approached by Lord Beaverbrook, the owner of the Daily Express newspaper, about adapting his books into comic strips for his paper.
After some hesistation, Fleming agreed, and John McLusky got to work, as the assigned illustrator.
McLusky illustrated comic strips from the 12 books Fleming wrote:
Casino Royale Live and Let Die Moonraker Diamonds Are Forever From Russia, with Love Dr. No Goldfinger
From a View to a Kill For Your Eyes Only Thunderball On Her Majesty's Secret Service You Only Live Twice
Casino Royale, the first of the books, was the first to become a comic strip. It was published in the Daily Express in 1958. McLusky would go on to illustrate comics for all 12 books, working with Fleming and the Daily Express until 1966.
It was because of the comic's success that James Bond became famous, which led to the first film, and all other movies that followed. If it wasn't for these drawings, the films may not have been made.
John McLusky drew the first public face of Bond, which looked so much like Sean Connery. It inspired Connery to audition for the part, and he would get to play the roll of James Bond for 6 out of the 12 films. The director of the first film made, Dr. No, copied an entire scene striaght from McLusky's drawings!
Decades later, the Academy Museum now has 12 of these drawings. They are a major piece of cinema history.

Sierra McCormick EDGE OF EVERYTHING ON THE
by Alex A. Kecskes
Starting in film and television at a young age, Sierra McCormick appeared in Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, Criminal Minds, Supernatural, Monk, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Later, she worked on studio films including Land of the Lost and Ramona & Beezus, and then costarred on 62 episodes of the Disney Channel series A.N.T. Farm and the horror film Some Kind of Hate, for which she was nominated for the Fright Meter Award. Most recently, she starred in the Slamdance-winner The Vast of Night and American Horror Stories
In the coming-of-age drama, Edge Of Everything, Sierra McCormick is Abby, a teen straddling childhood and adulthood. Forced to find her way in the world after her mother’s death and move in with her father, David (Jason Butler Harner), she remains continually at odds with her father’s younger girlfriend Leslie (Sabina Friedman-Seitz). Feeling alone and angry, Abby befriends the carefree and rebellious Caroline (Ryan Simpkins) as she explores new personas, drugs, and sexual experiences on the path to finding her place in life.
INTERVIEW
Thank you for taking the time for this interview. What drew you to the role of Abby and this film?
Sierra McCormick: Initially, one of my best friends, Anthony Del Negro, who plays Dylan, the older guy Abby is crushing on, drew me into the film. He was the first person attached to the film and he put me in contact with the filmmakers about playing Abby. Emily Robinson, who plays Sarah, is also someone I have known for a long time. So having people in the cast that I knew appealed to me. And once I spoke to Pablo (Feldman) and Sophia (Sabella), the filmmakers, I was even more eager to sign on. The film was grounded, realistic, and different from the genre films I'd been doing. Plus the work I'd been doing was
very singular with me alone in scenes. So the idea that I would have all these group friendship scenes with people my age was also very appealing. I was also excited to tackle the period of adolescence that Abby was going through. Because of my unorthodox childhood and adolescence as a working actor, I felt I'd been denied some of the normal things Abby experienced as a teen. So I signed on to give myself some of those vicarious experiences.
How did you prepare for the role? Did anyone you know have a difficult time dealing with the kinds of issues Abby faced?
Sierra: I didn’t have parents or a girlfriend creating friction in my life. But I knew a lot of people who did while growing up. It was important for me to remember what it felt like to be that age. So I did a lot of digging into my own background—my social media, old blogs I'd deleted, all that cringy, horrible stuff. I also made a playlist of all the music I’d listened to at that age. The music I listened to as an adolescent was important becauseit was such a huge part of how I interacted with my friends. We were constantly sending each other songs, talking about music and the bands we loved. So listening to all of that took me back and gave me the sense memory I needed.
What did you find most challenging about this film and playing Abby?
Sierra: Given Abby’s age, it made me reflect, during my prep for the film, on that time in my life and forced me to reckon with my feelings about how I was raised. And all the things that troubled me during my adolescence. That was a challenge, especially in the scenes with Jason, who plays my dad, David. As a parent, he was too hands-off and uninvolved. My parent were on the other end of the spectrum and very strict—in terms of me going out and doing things. So it was hard for me to fully empathize with Abby initially because all I wanted at that age was hands-off parents who would let me do what I wanted. It forced me to put myself in a very different headspace.
Do you have a favorite scene? Why do you like it?
Sierra: I enjoyed all the group scenes with Abby and her friends. Especially the last scenes with all the girls in the end, where Abby realizes that these older guys are in
her house and she kicks them out. She's embarrassed about her friends because they’re not as concerned about coming off as Abby, who wants so desperately to appear grown up. But her friends haven't reached that point yet. She's been regarding them as lame or not as cool. Not like Caroline, who appears grown up and chaotic. Eventually, Abby realizes that her friends are there for her and they cry together as a group. I love that scene.
What do you see as the core message of this film?
Sierra: If you’re close to someone who is going through what Abby is going through, be kind to them. It’s hard for adults to look back retroactively and see that as such a difficult time in life. You’re going through all these changes in this uncharted territory of life. If you are going through the throes of adolescence, be nice to yourself.
What have you learned about show business that really surprised you?
Sierra: In terms of acting, when you’re acting, you may think that it needs to be hard, or a challenge. But sometimes you put in great work when it feels easy. This film is a good example of that. There were a few challenges, but for the most part, all the
work felt fun and easy. It was relaxed on set and filmmakers, Pablo and Sophia created an environment where we all felt free to collaborate, experiment, and extrapolate some of the things that they've written. It felt uninhibited. Because the filmmakers gave us a lot of time to prep and rehearse.
What advice do you have for young talent struggling to make it in this business?
Sierra: Trust yourself. You can always be learning by watching a wide variety of performances. When you are working on set, you want to be paying attention to what you need to do as an actor; but when not acting, you want to pay attention to what's happening on set. The ecosystem of the set, and its functions. I felt that doing that gave me a leg up, especially in terms of being able to adjust myself to make my job go as efficiently as possible.
What were you like in high school?
The girl most likely to…?
Sierra: My superlative was mostly likely to have been born in another century. Like maybe a time traveler going back to the 20th century, the 1950s. I was kind of like Abby, wanting so badly to come off as aloof and cool.

Today's femininity embraces a spectrum of strength, defying the stereotypes of delicate or passive. These women are proving their dedication, skills, and resilience on the world stage, inspiring a new generation to redefine what it means to be a powerful woman.
As these women prepare to compete for Team USA at the World MMA Championships to be held in Romania in October 2024, they demonstrate that femininity is not about conforming to outdated gender roles, but about embracing one's true self and pursuing one's passions with confidence and courage. By pushing themselves to the limits and competing at the highest level, they are redefining what it means to be a woman in sports and inspiring others to break barriers and strive for greatness.
JEHAN IZHAR: MOVEMENT AS EMPOWERMENT
Jehan Izhar's story is a testament to the transformative power of movement. This martial artist from Lawton, Oklahoma, uses her skills to empower others and redefine beauty standards. Her journey began with a personal struggle – a battle with severe body dysmorphia that shifted her relationship with fitness from an adversarial one to a career focused on inclusivity and self-acceptance. This experience fueled her passion, leading her to become a black belt in martial arts and pursue a master's degree in Kinesiology. Today, Jehan's expertise extends far beyond physical training. She travels the world teaching aerial arts and pole dance, using her curriculum to promote inclusivity and empowerment, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and capable in her classes.
JENAE NOONAN: A CHAMPION FORGING A PATH
Team USA Captain Jenae Noonan isn't just a gold medalist – she's a media darling and a role model blazing a trail for future generations of female MMA fighters. Her achievements speak volumes: a coveted gold medal at the MMA World Games, recognition across various media outlets, and even being featured in a best-selling book titled "Fighter" that chronicles her journey to success. But Jenae's impact extends beyond the octagon. She uses her platform to empower and inspire other women, actively breaking down barriers and paving the way for a future where female MMA fighters aren't just accepted, but celebrated. Her unwavering dedication and trailblazing spirit make her a beacon of inspiration in the world of women's sports.

However, her world was turned upside down when she lost her mother, a loss that plunged her into a period of deep grief and health struggles. Yet, Zee persevered. Today, she stands tall as a 3rd-degree black belt in martial arts, an accomplished fire dancer, aerial rope artist, and even a bodybuilder. But her achievements extend far beyond the physical realm. Zee is a scholar with two Master's degrees and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in History. She shares her knowledge with the next generation as a respected instructor at Chaffey College and Mt San Antonio College. Zee's life is a testament to the power of perseverance and passion, an inspiration not just for her athletic and academic achievements, but also for her unwavering commitment to honor and integrity.
Lauren Manzano's story is one of unwavering determination and an unbreakable spirit. This warrior with a heart of gold has faced life-altering challenges, overcoming severe car accidents that resulted in a traumatic brain injury and post-concussion syndrome. Yet, adversity couldn't hold Lauren back. Her passion for Taekwondo, music, and cultural exploration has fueled her journey, shaping her into the strong and determined individual she is today. Trish Cook: Producer, Actress, Writer... and Patriot
By Brandon Webster
Here at Hollywood Weekly, we were treated to an in-depth conversation with the lovely, Trish Cook, an individual whose life story embodies the essence of perseverance and spiritual growth amidst the pursuit of Hollywood dreams. Born a patriot, as she described, near the 4th of July, Cook’s journey was anything but conventional.
From her early beginnings in Ohio, where she worked in a factory at the age of 15, her military family caused multiple relocations, 16 to be exact, and living on military bases in remote places. However, a surprising relocation to New Jersey, opened a door that led Cook to study and work in New York City. She was finally living in a place where she could pursue her secret dreams and career goal… to work in the entertainment industry.
Cook’s narrative is one of tenacity and hard work, values she learned early on. Her acting ambitions were often met with skepticism back home, with peers questioning the plausibility of her dreams. Yet, undeterred, she pressed on, navigating the highly competitive and often cutthroat world of acting auditions and the modeling industry. In one instance, she recounted an extraordinary gig as a Leg and Shoe Model for Ferragamo Shoes. Their Fashion Showroom was located in the beautiful Trump Tower on 5th Avenue in Manhattan. It was an exciting and a wonderful experience. She hoped Ferragamo would... maybe give her a pair of those beautiful and expensive shoes… but no on that one… ha.
Our conversation delved into Cook’s rich experiences, which included her foray into Christian Dior on Madison Avenue, her time on soap operas, and her patriotic spirit, which has been a part of her identity since birth. It also touched on the moments that shaped her career, such as her appearance on a talent show at the age of seven and her work as a florist, interior designer, and dance teacher.
We were also given a glimpse into Cook’s more recent endeavors, such as her involvement in the “God and I” documentary, a project that explores testimonials of extraordinary experiences and neardeath encounters This documentary holds a special place in Cook’s heart, as it challenges Western society’s hesitance to discuss spirituality and life’s profound questions. Cook shared a particulary moving moment from her acting journey, where she was cast in lead role, after auditioning for small part on a Feature Film Comedy. This film was directed by Frank Sinatra Jr., who was very kind and sometimes a tad playful onset to break the tension of the tight schedule of the shoot. However, the feature did not reach final edit stages because of the untimely passing of Lead Actor, Creator and Writer, Sid Milton. The film was never distributed.
Despite the setbacks and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with an acting career, Cook’s advice to aspiring actors is poignant: Embrace the spectrum of human emotions, be prepared for hard work, and stay committed to your passion, even in the face of rejection and disappointment. Her stories serve as a testament to the resilience required to make it in the industry, a resilience she

continues to display in her ongoing projects. Trish Cook offers a candid look at her life, a montage of stories about morality, faith, and the unpredictable road to success. It’s a narrative that not only highlights the importance of image and equality in society but also emphasizes the power of human perseverance and the transformative nature of personal experiences in shaping an individual’s journey.
INTERVIEW
Can you tell us more about the “God and I” documentary and what inspired its creation?
Trish: The ‘God & I’ documentary creation began because of an amazing and profound chance encounter with a person that I did not know at all. As an Independent Producer, I was attending the enormous and loud AFM (the American Film Market @ The Lowe’s Hotel in Santa Monica ). Because of the thousands that attend this huge Event (filmmakers worldwide), it was so loud for so many hours. So, I decided to slip over to the adjacent hotel for a quiet and quick bowl of soup before my next meeting. Actually, I was kind of hiding at a small table in the back, wanting a little quiet time… alone. To my surprise, a lovely lady and tall gentleman asked me if they could eat lunch with me. There were many empty tables… but they looked so kind and nice, so I said ‘yes, absolutely, please join me’. They were explaining to me their concept about a project with working title of “God & I”. Years later, they are my very best friends! Our “God & I” documentary will share with the world, testimonials of extraordinary experiences, similar to miracles that have happened to real people, in the real world. And, near-death experiences will be included as well.
You mention personal narratives that have impacted your guests’ lives. Could you share a particular story that resonated with you?
Trish: I recently filmed an amazing lady that was suddenly diagnosed with a muscle
disease that quickly attacked all the muscles in her entire body, including her heart. Shortly thereafter, she went into a coma, and was hospitalized. Although she was a candidate for heart transplant, her family abandoned her, including her husband and sister. She died while in that hospital. She shared with me everything that happened to her, before she was revived, and received a new heart. Her story too long to explain here, but an incredible and very very emotional for me hearing and recording it. A book was written about her experience, entitled “Shark Heart”. There are many true stories that will be onscreen for the world to see and hear the journey and transformation of so many.
Success and resilience seem to be a recurring theme in your discussions. Can you share an insight from the podcast on how these experiences shape individuals?
Trish: Life is a journey…dynamic, unknown, complicated and everchanging. But I have learned, grown and changed through the amazing people that have shaped me. Some I know, most I read about. And, I met a person that was very very poor as a child, in extreme dyfunctional situation that was abandoned at age 15, with nowhere to go, or money or relatives. Today, he is a world known teacher, philanthropist, and has had enormous impact on millions through his teachings. He says ’success leaves clues’… meaning, a person can be self-taught, well read and learn from methods of success of others. I agree. I have many many goals and mountains to keep climbing.
You touched on the significance of image and equality in the entertainment industry. What are your thoughts on this?
Trish: In this Industry, I have personally observed and believe EVERY individual is important, unique, with qualities and talents. We need each other. And, I believe all of us are more the same, than different. I, personally, have learned from people that I never expected to meet ever. The honor and priviledge to stand beside them on a project,
with people that were sooo different on the outside, from places from all over the world has certainly affected me. And what I have learned…kindness, listening and learning, but most of all LOVE. We need it, everyone needs it. On every set, we need people on both sides of the camera, creating, working, for the same goal of making something awesome. I believe in that… good stories, with positive messages.
Lastly, for those dreaming of a career in Hollywood, what advice would you give?
Trish: My advice is to follow your heart and be prepared for the hard work ahead. You have to embrace life experiences and use them to inform your art. Be aware that it’s not an easy path, but if you’re dedicated and can navigate through the ups and downs with tenacity, you’ll find your way. And remember, it’s not about instant success; it’s a journey of self-discovery and perseverance.
(New York, NY, June 13, 2024) – Today, award-winning pianist ELEW has been announced as support to 17-time Grammy Award winning artist STING on the North American leg of his acclaimed “STING 3.0" Tour, presented by Cherrytree Music Company and Live Nation.
A native of Camden, New Jersey, Eric Lewis began his musical studies at 2 years old and would ultimately receive the Rodger’s and Hammerstein full merit scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music. A Dean’s List student, upon graduation, he toured the world, recorded and performed with Wynton Marsalis & the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Elvin Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Roy Hargrove, and John Hendricks among others. In 1999, Eric won the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, at the time, the most coveted prize in all of Jazz.
A decade into his career, he reemerged as ELEW and began fusing his piano techniques with rock guitar-based ideas and experimental prepared piano methods, generating a powerful crossover brand he coined “Rockjazz”. Over the course of multiple award winning, critically acclaimed albums, ELEW has re-imagined songs by The Killers, Nirvana, Coldplay and Michael Jackson to name a few. Inspired by the European masters of Baroque Counterpoint, ELEW has innovated the technique

of simultaneously executing two independent melodies which precisely detail harmonic forms bursting with idiomatic verisimilitude and wide-ranging historical references while flawlessly maintaining the idiosyncratic Afrocentric timing at the core of Jazz improvisation. He has named this technique Counterbop.
His album Cubism - ELEW plays Rosenwinkel, a solo piano exploration of contemporary jazz legend Kurt Rosenwinkel provides perspective an insight into the nature of what Counterbop is and how it may be implemented.
In addition to piano performance, appearing in and scoring for film, ELEW is a prominent international DJ. He has created disco infernos for multiple events such as The World Economic Forum, TED, Art Basel, A-list Oscar parties, the Monte-Carlo Gala, the Cannes Film Festival and multiple celebrity birthdays and weddings. In some cases, ELEW places the turntables within the piano, seamlessly executing transitions and improvisations all while generating a pleasing frenzy on the dance floor. This has led to him creating yet another brilliant innovation he calls
Piano Turntablism. He literally plays two different yet recognizable songs simultaneously as a Dj would but on the Piano. All while maintaining the type of euphoric atmosphere one would experience at an over-the-top Las Vegas mega club or an epic music festival. ELEW is a genuine master of the piano and artistic genius.
Last month, “STING 3.0” kicked off in Europe with the 17-time Grammy Award winning icon performing his most electrifying hits joined by virtuoso guitarist and longtime collaborator, Dominic Miller, and dynamic drummer Chris Maas (Mumford & Sons, Maggie Rogers), from his timeless discography. Following the tour launch, NME reported “Sting begins 2024 tour with Police hits and deep cuts,” while Consequence praised the performance describing the trio as “sounding in fine form, filling out the songs’ arrangements with impressive umph. Unsurprisingly, Stings’ bass was the star of the show, as he was given the sonic room to provide counter melodies and booming basslines with impact.”

THE NATURAL MIND OF MISSY SUNSERI
By Brandon Webster
From the picturesque coastal city of Malibu, Missy Sunseri has carved out a niche for herself in the field of psychological healing and sports performance. With her innovative approach and unwavering dedication, she is redefining what it means to unlock the potential of the human mind. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Missy’s journey began on the fields, where she quickly distinguished herself as a star athlete. However, life took an unexpected turn following a family tragedy that shook her to the core. It was during this tumultuous period that Missy’s path veered towards a deeper understanding of the human psyche, leading her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Robert Morris University. But it wasn’t just academic curiosity that drove Missy; it was a personal quest for healing. Struggling with chronic PTSD and anxiety, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery that would ultimately shape her future and her career.
In her darkest moments, she found solace and salvation in the transformative power of hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). These modalities not only saved her life but ignited a passion within her to help others navigate their own inner landscapes. With a newfound sense of purpose, Missy set her sights on California, the land of endless possibilities. There, she immersed herself in studies at the Hypnosis Motivation Institute (HMI), graduating with honors and laying the foundation for her groundbreaking practice, “The Natural Mind.”
“The Natural Mind” isn’t just another therapy practice; it’s a sanctuary for healing and growth. Combining her extensive certifications in NLP, hypnotherapy, sports psychology, and more, Missy offers a holistic approach to wellness that transcends traditional methods. Her sessions go beyond mere conversation; they are immersive experiences that tap into the subconscious mind, unlocking hidden
potentials and reshaping lives.
Missy’s impact extends far beyond the walls of her practice. She has become a pillar of support and inspiration in the Malibu community, garnering attention for her innovative techniques and compassionate approach. Features in local publications like the Malibu Surfside News and Malibu Patch have brought her work to a broader audience, shining a spotlight on the transformative work she is doing.
One area where Missy has made significant strides is in the realm of sports psychology. Drawing upon her own experiences as a former athlete, she has developed unique methods to enhance athletic performance and instill confidence in her clients. Whether working with elite athletes or aspiring amateurs, Missy’s goal remains the same: to unlock their full potential and help them achieve their goals on and off the field.
But perhaps one of Missy’s most impactful initiatives is the establishment of The Missy Sunseri Scholarship. This scholarship serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring athletes, providing financial support and mentorship to help them pursue their dreams. It’s a testament to Missy’s commitment to giving back to the community and empowering the next generation of athletes. Looking to the future, Missy’s vision for “The Natural Mind” is one of continued growth and impact. INTERVIEW
Can you tell us a little about your background?
Missy: I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When I was younger I was always the one who was helping everybody around me and aware of how people were feeling. It was during college that my brother passed away and I decided to switch majors to psychology. Soon after that I came out here on my own healing journey in which hypnotherapy and NLP helped save my life. So I went to school for it and wanted other people to feel the relief I felt from hypnosis and NLP.
Can you share any key lessons or insights you’ve gained during your training with Audrey Hope?
Missy: She’s just so awesome. With Audrey, there’s no excuses, there’s no victimhood. It’s taking responsibility and taking the power from that trauma and turning it into your own. You don’t have to sit around with your trauma. You can go in, reframe it, release it and get it out. Looking at it with her, I learned to just get to the root and get rid of it. Your trauma is not you and it doesn’t have to be talked about. For years, I learned from her how to get to the source fast.
What’s a memorable story you’ve experienced working as a hypnotherapist?
Missy: Yes, I had a client who went to trauma facilities, they had severe depression and literally had no reactions to anything. I started working with him and I saw the shift. This was a young man in his early 20s, and to see the shift in somebody at that time of their life, in such a hard position. It is the most beautiful thing to see that person’s release and smile on their face. And now I don’t even see him anymore and he is living his best life without depression or medication.
How do you approach your practices? Are you just having the patients recall specific memories that caused them trauma in the first place?
Missy: So with that client’s therapy we worked with the 95% of our brain. So for instance, our conscious brain is only 5%. So by going into the subconscious brain, it can tell us what age something stemmed from and when it happened. Who told them that and etcetera. Then what I do is bring that age out and we heal the age of when that thing happened and that brings the healing to now.
Do you perform any past life regressions during your sessions?
Missy: Yes, I can do past life regression. Sometimes our trauma is from another life, so we have to go back and figure out what was going on there. We must reframe and release that, because sometimes we’re not even sure where that trauma is coming from. We talked about that problem and it’s interesting. A lot of times you find out that your anxiety was there to protect you. It came to protect you at a young age, or your anger came to protect you at a young age as well because you were sad about something and you needed strength. It’s very fascinating to realize that my anxiety wasn’t there to hurt me, but rather it was actually there to protect me. So we reframe that picture and then decide to release it or transform it into something new.
I thought that was very interesting how your services deal with sports. What are you exactly doing with your practices to benefit athletes?
Missy: So I was personally a big athlete myself growing up and I was always a team leader, helping people with confidence, getting everybody ready for the game, pumped out things like that and I decided to take my private practice into the sports world too. I did this because at certain ages you can change a kid’s life by coming in and helping them. If they’re in high
school, even if they’re in college, if they’re in middle school, by giving them that tool of confidence they’re able to walk through their life with an ability that is irreplaceable. Athletes are already in hypnosis when they play. So I created a method called the “Flow State Method”, and what it does is it gives you access to your flow state so you could use it in sports or in performances, you could use it for test taking anything that you need confidence in. What I do is take them in hypnosis and we release any old negative thought patterns that have gotten into their head then release it and replace it with a positive reinforcement. Now with a consistent practice of hypnosis, they could imagine a picture and have instant access to their flow state. So with athletes, it’s about releasing those false beliefs and empowering the confidence in that natural flow state inside of them.”
Do you have any upcoming projects or workshops that you’d like the audience to know about?
Missy: "The Flow State Message” will be coming out soon. It will be tailored for individual life, sports and performance. It’s a great tool to have for everyday life, to release limiting beliefs, really any self doubt that you may have and helps build this confidence inside you that you have always known was there but just needed somebody else to help point it out.
“When you’re in class, it’s all about the acting. When you’re on set, you’re just one component of the bigger picture. So it’s been cool to learn more aspects of creating a show or film and meeting some wonderfully talented people.”
Stranger Things’ Julia Reilly
Talks about her role in County Rescue
By Alex A. Kecskes
Best known for her role as Tammy Thompson in Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, Julia Reilly has also appeared in the TV series Dead Silent, Amazon’s God of Dreams, Apple TV’s The Giant, Lifetime’s A View to Kill For, and Lifetime’s The Secrets She Keeps
Julia honed her skills in The Groundlings, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, the Creative Studios Film Academy, and Mornell Studios. Growing up in Atlanta, GA, Julia started dance classes when she was three years old and began voice lessons shortly after. Throughout high school, Julia interned with a film agent, learning the ropes behind the scenes. She attended the University of Arizona to get her Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting. After Covid hit during her sophomore year of college, Julia transferred to the University of Georgia where she earned a degree in Film Studies with a minor in Theatre.
In the action-adventure medical drama, County Rescue, Julia delivers a riveting performance as Dani Miller. The original 5-episode miniseries, premiered February 17th on Great American Family. Julia’s breakout lead balances the intensity of life-saving moments with the emotional depth of her character caught in a love triangle. A series regular, the young actress brings authenticity, passion, and a fresh perspective to the world of emergency responders. In one paramedic opening, Dani Miller (Julia) must set aside her recent heartbreak and prove herself worthy of the job while competing against the fire chief’s impulsive son and an over-qualified rookie.
Thanks for taking the time for this interview. What drew you to the role of Dani in this riveting new series?
Julia Reilly: I got the audition from my agent and I really loved the material when I read it. I thought Brian Baugh did a great job writing
the show. And I really connected with Dani. We’re both in our twenties trying to figure out our paths in this crazy world. So I related to her a lot and naturally gravitated towards her character. But it was very exciting.
How did you prepare for the physical challenges of a life-saving paramedic?
Julia: There wasn’t much preparation time. I got the role a week before I left to start filming. I’m a pretty active person. I love to work out and do a lot of pilates and cycling. So I was excited to confront the physical challenges of the role. We were lifting gurneys and people on them. That was challenging and I was eager to do more training for those tasks if we were to do another season of the show.
EMTs have an entire medical vocabulary that’s focused on speed and life-saving procedures. Was there a learning curve for you? Did you have on-set medical advisors to help?
Julia: In terms of the medical jargon, I went to YouTube and watched several “Day in the Life of an EMT” videos. So that was
really helpful and insightful. And on set, we always had an actual EMT, which was a game changer. They would answer all our questions—like how do you pronounce this word or how do I make this look the most realistic.
Can you go into the love triangle Dani had to face? What were the challenges there?
Julia: (laughs). Yeah, there’s a little bit of a love triangle romance. I really can’t say too much about it but I’m excited for the audience to see what they think of those characters in those situations.
What’s the most challenging part of being in this series?
Julia: It was challenging. This was my first series role in a TV show. It really taught me a lot of discipline. You wrap a day’s work and then go home eat shower and prepare for the next day’s scene. It’s work, rest, repeat, so I was very disciplined to get the most rest I could, especially since we had some really early call times. There was a lot of material to learn but I was really excited to be in the show.
Do you have a favorite scene or scenes?
Julia: I do. It was in the last episode of Season One. It was amazing to film and to work with the other actors in the scene. It was regarding EMT work.
So this is your first full-time acting gig in a television series. What was it like for you?
Julia: It was so much fun and an absolute dream come true. It’s exciting to finally talk about the show. I’ve been auditioning for a long time. So to get an opportunity like this after years of work and hundreds of “no’s” later to get to a “yes.”
Most actors I know have a love-hate relationship with auditions. Where do you stand?
Julia: I like auditioning. With Covid, that’s been stripped away. But it’s starting to come back. I love the energy of being in the room. I work best in that environment.
Was there a film or actor that inspired you to get into acting?
Julia: OMG. As a kid, I did a lot of singing and musical theater. So I was obsessed with Julie Andrews and the Sound of Music. I was five years old, I also loved Annie, the original and the first remake, and The Wizard of Oz. I
had my own pair of ruby slippers and watched those movies hundreds of times.
So you tapped your ruby slippers and here you are, a full-time actress now. Julia: Yes, that’s exactly what happened.
You have an accomplished body of work in both TV and film. What have you learned about acting and show business that truly surprised you?
Julia: That’s a great question. I think that being on set is the best class or workshop you can get. There are a lot of moving pieces and everyone’s there to do their job and make everything come together. When you’re in class, it’s all about the acting. When you’re on set, you’re just one component of the bigger picture. So it’s been cool to learn more aspects of creating a show or film and meeting some wonderfully talented people.
So had you not gone into acting, what career path would you have chosen?
Julia: (laughs) I love that question. I always say I would have been a lawyer or a dermatologist. I love skincare and think that would have been cool.
Any advice for young actors struggling to get into this business?
Julia: I have to give credit to my parents for being extremely supportive. No one else in
my family is in the entertainment industry. It just takes a lot of passion. You have to love it. Because there is a lot of rejection. But if you’re persistent, you never know when you’re going to get that “yes.” I’m a firm believer that if you were meant for the role, you’ll get the role and nothing will get in the way of that. So many reasons we don’t get a role are totally out of our control. Be prepared and do the work. You need to view it as a long haul and not a short race. Everyone’s path is different.
So what do you do to relax and unwind?
Julia: I love binge-watching a good TV show. I have a mini Dachshund puppy that I love to take on walks and play with. Spending time with loved ones is how I relax. I also love pilates and yoga.
What were you like in high school? The girl most likely to…?
Julia: (laughs) Goodness. I went to a really small high school. My graduating class was about 35 people. We were all friends with each other so it was not the traditional high school experience. I was a good student and a bit of a perfectionist. And because there were only 35 of us, we all got senior superlatives. And my superlative was most likely to wear Converse every day. I did community theater, music lessons, and dance outside of school because it was such a small school. I was very involved in the arts throughout high school.
