Consider a chair:
Since the dawn of time, humans have enjoyed sitting. While there was (and still is) a certain amount of ground and floor sitting done, there is even more proof of humans choosing to sit on or in something. Whether it’s a log, a stone, an anthill or a lap, we have been placing our bums on things for centuries.
is a necessary part of our everyday lives. But that doesn’t mean we give it much thought.
As with everyday architecture, which we often only notice if it is done badly, we also only give a thought to where we are sitting if the chair is lacking in some way. A well designed, comfortable and easy to use sitting spot doesn’t often make it into our conversations, even though it is such a fundamental part of our daily lives.
Think about it - car/bus/train seats, office chairs, sofas in front of TV’s, dining room chairs. Living rooms, restaurants - so much of our lives is lived in the sitting position. Read more about famous chairs, online.

We have alll heard the home renovation trope: “Just add a lick of paint.”
But what if you want more? Or can’t stand the smell of paint? This week we are looking into a classic wall treatment to update any space, without getting hardcore.
When you paint its usually a painstaking process of painting, waiting for it to dry and then re-applying several more coats of paint before the final colour and look becomes apparent. This is all very well if you are actually into that kind of thing, have the time to sit around and watch paint dry, and enjoy the process of taping cornices.
We are way past the Victorian ostentatious flower motifs, the overly intricate “bird and branch” patterns covering every inch of your room, or even the overwhelmingly bold and bright colours of the 70’s and 80’s. These days wallpaper is used as a semi-pemanent artform.
Wallpaper is an intense design choice. Because of its semi-permanent nature, you can’t just make up your mind to change it like you would any other hanging artwork, you need to give it some thought.
These walls are also called accent walls, but they all come down to the same idea: pick one wall and make it a focal point in your room. Whether you choose to use wallpaper on the wall behind your bed as a kind of a headboard, or whether you
choose the wall opposite the entrance hall, it is about setting a mood. By choosing the right wallpaper you can completely alter the mood of your space and put your own signature on your design.
Because you won’t be papering the whole room, you can choose to go bold. Whether your aesthetic is Dark Academia, Cottage Core or Japandi/Scandi, there is a wallpaper design to fit your vibe.
We love wallpaper for its versaltility and the instantaneous way it can refresh a space. In particular we love wallpaper for kid rooms, and even bathrooms. Wallpaper is also a more intentional choice than simply painting your home, and we always like it when your homemakers actively make their homes their own happy places.
If you think the idea of having “paper” on streamy bathoom walls is an oxymoron, we are here to tell you that technology has evolved, and waterproof kitchen and bathroom wallpaper is totally a thing.

Are gas appliances REALLY better than conventional appliances? Now we’re cooking with gas! We have all heard this expression, and it is usually means that something has gone right. But is it really so much better to cook and heat and boil with gas, compared to conventional electicity?
Gas home appliances
stove tops, but do pay for themselves in the end, with gas being a much cheaper option to run with than electicity. Oh, and gas is also loadshedding proof!
Gas ovens on the other hand are a divisive matter. Many countries do use them and even locally they have a big following because they are once again cheaper to run and don’t rely on the power grid, but connoisseur bakers and pastry chefs still choose conventional convection ovens to do their prize-winning bakes in.
When we are talking about using gas appliances in the home, a gas stove is usually the first thing that comes to mind. We often foget that there are many other appliances that have gas alternatives available. There ae gas ovens, heaters, firplaces, geysers and even fridges. Now the question remains: Is gas really superior? We’ll be looking at each appliance in turn, so let’s begin with the obvious one: Why
Gas stove and oven
Many (ok, most) chefs and avid home cooks swear by a gas stove. The fact that the heat is immediate, means that you can regulate your cooking beter and there is no chance of an electic stove plate overheating and burning your food because it heats up sporadically and irregularly. With gas, the flame is either there or not, and the heat is very much: “What you see is what you get.”
The downside of a gas stove is the fact that you can’t really get a good low simmer on in. With the direct heat of the flame on your pot or pan, even the lowest setting can still burn your food. Things like pap or stew that require hours of low heat are better made on electric stove plates.
Gas stoves are initially more expensive than conventional
So, these have evolved and improved greatly, and we are a far cry from the dodgy campground gas geysers of decades ago. Now, gas geysers are a reliable and easy to operate as most conventional geysers, and they provide endless flows of hot water, on tap, immediately. This might be the one bonus of gas geyser. If you have a big household who put a strain on you electric or solar geyser, gas is the way to go. With a gas geyser the hot water only runs out when the water itself runs out.
Gas geysers are more expensive and like conventional geysers they need to be professionally installed to be safe. There could be storage and installation safety concerns if your geyser is indoors.
