Finding your aesthetic is a way to find your voice. Does the thought of speaking up fill you with dread? Does the idea of introducing yourself to strangers leave you cold?
Let your home do the talking for you!
It is already your safe space and hopefully your facourite chill out zone so why not make it your spokesperson as well?
Be honest about who you are. Don’t force your home to lie. Forcing yourself into a monochrome minimalist house if you are at heart a maximalist magpie who carries home driftwood and can’t walk past a thrift store without buying another little vase, will just lead to a PR disaster.
That’s why it is important to find your aesthetic before letting your décor do the speaking. There are a couple of home décor aesthetics that have been trending for a while now, and we stil love all of them.
Being influenced by the South African Westcoast, the South coast of England and the American North-east (hence the “Hamptons” name) this is a much lighter aesthetic that ties in well with a bit of light-retro (not mid century modern) and even so called “soft girl” aesthetic.
Key elements:
• Light coloured slip covered couches in cool linens or woven cotton (very little leather).
• Clear glass and Chrystal accents like table tops & chandeliers
• Shell, pebble and light stone/marlbe finishes.
• Weathered light wood.
• Colourways like faded blues and greys, shades of white,
super light caramels, as well as a celebration of mellow, butter yellows. Seafoam greens and stormy greys also work well. Colours should all stay on the cool side of the spectrum.
Homesteading or Family Farm vibe.
This aesthetic blends well with the provincial farmhouse or Karoo chic style.
Key elements:
• Scrubbed wooden surfaces.
• Earthenware and wooden serving ware and vases.
• Reed baskets, thick weave blankets and rugs.
• Handmade furniture and décor (whittled or woven), as well as handmade candles.
• Reclaimed glass and Hurricane lamps.
• Fynbos style houseplants / flower arrangements.
• Whitewashed walls
• Fruits, vegetables and baked goods on display in the kitchen.
• Eggs from your own chickens.
• Colours like warm mocha’s, darker yellows, olive greens and patterns like ethnic weaves and geometric botanicals work well, but stay away from jewel tones and forest greens.

The true value of keeping local lekker. Bringing it home.
We built this company from the ground up, meticulously carving out our space in the industry. For over forty five years we have been right beside you, brick by brick.
We have seen Presidents, Pandemics and politics try to get South Africa down and we have watched (proudly) as this country has fought back, stepped up and reinvented itself time and again.
Over the years we have also seen all manner of home improvement trends arrive on South African shores. We have experienced some truly innovative imports upending the local markets and for the most part we had to accept this. It meant that our loyal homemakers could now choose from a deeper bench of service providers and customise their homes to their heart’s content. Imports used to mean more variety and more options. However - things are trending in another direction, and we simply can’t hide our excitement anymore.
For the past few years there has been an undeniable shift towards local manufacturing. We are not just talking about basics like building materials, or the very high end of bespoke art. We are talking about the most unique, functional and innovative products. From hand cast stone tiles to fiery fun like woodfire hot tubs and all manner of braais and ovens, to textiles, tools and solutions for problems you don’t even know you have yet...
This year, even more so than before, the convention floor was full of young, passionate local entrepreneurs who not only run
their own businesses but also man their own exhibitions. These makers engaged with their clients on the ground, and brought their own magic to the world of Homemaking.
Manufacturing hopes and dreams.
The reason why we are so excited about this shift towards local manufacturing is because of the undeniable impact it will have on the South African economy. It’s common knowledge that a country with a strong local manufacturing industry is set up for sustained economic growth. For a while now we have been stuck in the rut of generating and exporting raw resources, without adding value, and then importing finished products at a premium. Not only did South African customers feel the burns of this at the checkout, but very few real jobs are created or real skills developed by the mere process of unloading shipping containers.
Take Note: According to a 2024 analysis by PwC, the local manufacturing sector contributes upwards of 13% to the GDP of South Africa.
