George V. Voinovich United States Senator
George Voinovich is one of Ohio’s most distinguished public servants. He is dedicated to making a real difference in people’s lives and he has done so for nearly 40 years. He has served as a County Auditor, as a state legislator, as Lieutenant Governor, 10 years as Mayor of Cleveland and eight years as Governor of Ohio. He has served in the U.S. Senate since 1999. Senator Voinovich sees that Ohio homeowners are hurting like never before, and he understands that real action must be taken to help protect homeowners. He supported the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) in the Housing and Economic Recovery Act. He pushed for NSP funding to provide a resource for state and local governments to ease the mortgage foreclosure crisis, and is committed to making sure local communities have the support needed to implement the NSP programs. Senator Voinovich has led the way in bringing Ohioans some much-needed relief, personally spearheading the first piece of foreclosure crisis-relief legislation that was signed into law by President Bush at the end of 2007. In addition, the Senator secured six additional provisions to provide immediate relief and assistance for struggling Ohio homeowners and employers in the Housing and Economic Recovery Act. Senator Voinovich serves on the Committee on Appropriations, the Environment and Public Works Committee and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC). Of all he has accomplished, George Voinovich counts his family – his wife Janet, his three children and his seven grandchildren – as his greatest gifts in life.

Bringing People Home Celebration “Not only did Layden (Foreclosure Counselor) help save our home, but it was because of his very assistance that we were able to get married. Berri didn’t want to get married until we knew our finances were in order. As far as I am personally concerned, Layden is my HERO (and Berri’s too)! We have a home that we can call our own with no landlord to have to worry about and we don’t have to worry about having a place to take care of our pets (2 cats and 2 dogs), and I got to marry the man of my dreams!”
– Brenda Cagnon
“Without the help of Huntington and Columbus Housing Partnership we never would have gotten the house of our dreams. We just thank everyone for the opportunity to have such an amazing home.”

n the 1930s, the Lincoln Theatre was the cornerstone of a thriving, affluent African-American community in downtown Columbus’ east side. Over time, the area declined and the building was slated for demolition. After changing ownership several times, it was purchased by the City of Columbus and Mayor Michael B. Coleman designated it as the cornerstone of his plans for neighborhood redevelopment, enlisting CAPA to spearhead the renovation.
In May 2009, the Egyptian Revival-style Lincoln Theatre reopened as a multi-use, state-of-the-art urban performing arts and education center with performances from Maurice Hines, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Denyce Graves, and the Harlem Gospel Choir. As the fully renovated, historic Lincoln Theatre begins its new life, it will showcase established and emerging national artists, house the Jazz Arts Group’s innovative new Jazz Academy, and provide the community and 10 resident arts groups with year-round space for performances, rehearsals, classes, and events.
Hurray for the 2009 Bringing People Home Celebration! At Huntington we’re kind of partial to H words. H is for honesty. Home. Harmony. Heart. And in this case, H is for Hurray. We say hurray for Columbus Housing Partnership because we’re so happy (another good H word) to be able to support something that makes our community a better place to be.
