I'll be the first to admit, hosting is not my favorite activity. I prefer a quiet evening at home with my family over a large gathering any day. But as they say, you marry your opposite. In my case, I married a woman who is very social and loves to host. A few years later, she gave me two daughters that have inherited that from her as well!
As our girls get older, I have come to have a new appreciation for hosting events of all types. The joy Mandy feels when planning and organizing is contagious and it becomes valuable family time as we prepare for whichever event they have dreamed up! Getting the girls involved makes it so much more fun and turns the planning and preparation into a family activity. These memories mean more to me than most of the events themselves! Working together as a family helps to take some of the stress out of planning for all of us.
Our eldest, Ella, loves to bake so she approaches each event with excitement and daydreams about what new recipe or treat she can prepare. Emilie, on the other hand, has inherited my natural talent for decorating and immediately begins dreaming up the décor and table settings for the event. While I refuse to admit that they are growing up, I do know that one day (VERY FAR DOWN THE ROAD), I will most likely be the father of the bride at two weddings with fabulous food and amazing décor! I suppose I should start saving now!
Whether you're planning a milestone event like a wedding or a simple summer get-together with friends, this issue is full of ideas and inspiration to help make hosting and planning a little easier. Don't forget to take the time to enjoy the journey. That is when memories are made!

Destination weddings have become increasingly popular in recent years, and for good reason. Not only do they offer a unique and beautiful setting for couples to exchange their vows, but they also create lasting memories for everyone involved. Whether a ceremony on pristine white-sands or a rooftop cocktail hour with a sunset backdrop, paradise will make a wedding day truly unforgettable. The beauty of the destination is guaranteed to add an extra layer of magic to an already romantic milestone.
One of the biggest advantages of a destination wedding is the opportunity for both families to come together and celebrate the new union of their loved ones, while getting better acquainted with one another. When planning a wedding at home, the focus is often on the day itself, which can be over in a flash. However, a destination wedding allows families uninterrupted time to bond over a variety of activities and excursions or while simply relaxing by the sparkling pool. These shared experiences can help create a strong foundation and deep connections to build upon for years to come.

Finances And Your Marriage
Couples who discuss finances have a greater chance of staying married. Crystal Taylor, Licensed Financial Advisor at Holden + Taylor Advisory Group, is passionate about helping couples with achieving secure and harmonious futures. She offered these considerations when tying the knot.
1
Be transparent about goals, spending, debt, and savings – 24% of engaged Canadians hide financial secrets from their partners (Rates.ca).
2
Establish financial roles for bills, investments, and tracking expenses. Leverage each partner's strengths for optimal financial management.
3
Create a spending plan that accounts for income, expenses, savings, and investments. Consider day-to-day AND long-term goals.
4
Be clear on how to share financial accounts. Options include joint accounts, separate accounts, or both. Each method has merits; Crystal recommends having SOME savings AND credit under each person’s name.
5
Form a plan for existing debts – student loans, credit cards, or car loans. Combining resources may accelerate repayment.
6
Align your lifestyle expectations to avoid friction Discuss values, spending habits, and priorities, such as dining, travel, and entertainment. Mutual limits prevent overspending and conflict.
7
Review your health insurance. An advisor can evaluate your existing benefits to assess the impacts of merging plans.
8
Consult an advisor or tax professional to understand the legal and tax implications of filing jointly or separately, as well as tailored advice on solutions like spousal RRSPs.
9
Update your wills, beneficiaries, and insurance policies to align with your marital status. If you don’t have a will, get one!
10
Build an emergency fund that covers 3-6 months of household expenses.
11
Protect your lifestyle by obtaining insurance for disability, illness, and death.
12
Consider a prenuptial agreement, especially if one of you has significant assets or debts. Know the impact of ‘co-mingling’ past and/or future inheritances.
13
Find a financial advisor you are BOTH comfortable with.
Establish designated storage for toys that's accessible and easy for children to use independently, like cube storage with bins or custom corner shelves.
Create a welcoming environment in your guest bedroom by offering dedicate space for guests' belongings, leaving empty drawers and providing hangers. Don’t forget to set up a convenient area for unpacking suitcases. Anticipate needs by stocking toiletries they might forget. Add personal touches like a water pitcher and cup for nighttime convenience. Finally, keep them cozy with accessible slippers and extra blankets.
Organizing a formal dining room is straightforward since it sees less frequent use. Clear non-essential items from the table and utilize storage like hutches for easy access to napkins, tablecloths, and silverware. Floating shelves can stylishly store and display serving essentials or decorative items, enhancing the room's functionality.

Here are some fundamental tips for organizing any room in your home, especially when preparing for guests:
Remember, cleaning isn't organizing; one deals with dirt, while the other ensures everything has its place.
Make space for gifts, guest comfort, and seasonal activities. Ensure every item serves a purpose and has a designated spot.
Encourage the whole family to maintain tidiness by returning items to their proper places. Balance organization with comfort to avoid a sterile environment.

ARE YOU HOSTING A BRIDAL SHOWER OR ENGAGEMENT PARTY? WE’VE GOT YOU! AS THE HOST, YOU MAY FEEL ALL SORTS OF PRESSURE, BUT FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE STEPS TO BECOME THE BEST PARTY HOST!
1. SELECT A THEME, AND STICK TO IT!
Choose a design element to create cohesion throughout your event. Whether it’s color, a movie, or a flower, make sure that element is present on the invitations, table setting, gifts, and even the food if possible. The secret? Keep it simple. Try to utilize what you already have in the house.

Your friends and family’s calendars will fill up fast!. Inviting them with advance notice -at least 30 days before the event- ensures the guests are available. Using an app or sending emails is always the best way to do so as it is faster and easier for the guest to RSVP. If sending invitations by email for a more formal feel, send them at least 6 weeks before the event.
3. STICK TO A PLAN
It is always smart to follow a plan when organizing an event: from the time the guests arrive to when you will serve the food. Always make sure snacks are available, drinks are filled and the music is playing!
4. KEEP IT SIMPLE IN THE KITCHEN
Even if you are an expert cook, trying to do everything from scratch is a stretch. Select two main signature dishes and do not exceed two sides and one or two desserts. That will allow you to spend time with your guests, not in the kitchen.

CREATING A GUEST ROOM
DESIGNING A GUEST BEDROOM INVOLVES CREATING A COMFORTABLE AND WELCOMING SPACE THAT MAKES GUESTS FEEL AT HOME. HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO CONSIDER:
LIGHTING: Include a variety of lighting options for different needs and moods. Bedside lamps, overhead lighting, and possibly a reading light are essential. Consider blackout curtains to help guests sleep undisturbed if your guest room faces bright morning light.
COMFORTABLE BEDDING: Invest in high-quality bedding with fresh linens, pillows, and a comfortable mattress. Opt for neutral colors and soft textures to create a relaxing atmosphere. Have extra blankets and pillows readily available for added comfort.
AMPLE STORAGE: Provide enough storage space for guests to unpack and store their belongings, such as a dresser, closet with hangers, and bedside tables with drawers.
FUNCTIONAL WORKSPACE: Includes a small desk or a comfortable chair with a table for guests to use as a workspace if needed. Provide easy access to Wi-Fi information, charging stations for devices, and possibly a clock or alarm. Leave a note with essential information such as the Wi-Fi password, contact numbers, and any house rules or quirks specific to your home.
THERMOFOIL CABINETRY
Affordable, contemporary kitchen cabinetry with a long-lasting finish!
Thermofoil cabinetry is constructed using a process called thermoforming. This involves the application of a thin layer of vinyl film onto a medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or engineered wood substrate. The vinyl film is heated and vacuum-sealed onto the substrate, creating a seamless and durable finish. Thermofoil cabinets come in a variety of styles, colors, and finishes, allowing homeowners to achieve their desired aesthetic without breaking the bank.
The popularity of thermofoil cabinetry continues to rise, and for good reason. Not only does it offer an affordable alternative to traditional wood cabinets, but it also provides unmatched durability and versatility. Additionally, advancements in manufacturing technology have led to improvements in the quality and appearance of thermofoil finishes, making them virtually indistinguishable from real wood. The trend towards minimalist and modern kitchen design has contributed to the increased demand for thermofoil cabinetry. Its seamless, sleek appearance complements contemporary kitchen aesthetics, making it a popular choice among designers and homeowners alike.
Dagiga’s unique thermoforming process gives it an additional unique advantage as it produces a healthcare grade finish which ensures a longer lasting, cleaner finish that is perfect for cabinetry and more! With popular finishes including wood grain, concrete, marble, carbon fiber, metallics and more, you’ll find the perfect look for any kitchen.

One of the key benefits of staging is that it helps to showcase the best features of the house. By strategically placing furniture and accessories, staging can highlight the layout of the rooms, the flow of the space, and the potential uses of different areas. This can help potential buyers see the possibilities of the house and imagine how they can make it their own.
Today, virtual staging offers a cost-effective way to showcase the potential of a house. Homeowners can send pictures of their space to a staging company, who can then digitally add furniture and accessories to show how the space can be utilized. This can be especially helpful for vacant houses or homes that are in need of a makeover. Hybrid staging is a process that involves physically staging key rooms and then virtually staging the rest of the home. This approach can help to reduce costs while still attracting attention online. By utilizing both physical and virtual staging techniques, sellers can maximize the potential of their house and appeal to a wider range of buyers. - www.homemagictouch.com

Summers are too short to waste! It's not enough to just build a deck you can enjoy on those "fair weather" days! Instead, design your space with longer use in mind! This may include improving functionality with an outdoor kitchen or lounge, adding weather protection with privacy screens, gazebos and wind breaks and encouraging late evening enjoyment with comfortable furniture, lighting for safety and a fire table for warmth! This outdated family home offered challenges with the layout and functionality of the space, as it consisted of two small rooms - a kitchen and a living/dining area. To address this issue, the decision was made to remove the wall separating the two spaces, creating one large open area that is both functional and visually appealing.
By opening up the space, the homeowner now has a more functional area where she can interact with her guests while cooking or entertaining. The addition of an island in the kitchen serves as a social focal point and provides extra workspace. The custom-designed cabinetry and island,
along with the quartz countertop, not only enhance the aesthetics of the space but also make it more durable and low-maintenance.
One of the key aspects of creating a functional space in this renovation was utilizing every inch of the area efficiently. The addition of built-in cabinetry with counters for a coffee machine, display cabinetry, and storage helps maximize the space and keep it organized. The decision to take the backsplash all the way to the ceiling and add floating shelves not only adds a decorative element but also makes use of otherwise unused space.
Overall, this renovation project showcases how an open layout can create a more functional and inviting space. By removing barriers and optimizing the use of space, the homeowner now has a kitchen and living area that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical for everyday use. The incorporation of custom-designed elements and thoughtful design choices further enhance the functionality and appeal of the space. - A4 Group, www.a4group.ca
Paint has the remarkable ability to transform the ambiance of any space swiftly and effectively. Whether you prefer bold, modern colors or timeless, classic hues, a fresh coat of paint can redefine the look and feel of your home. Yet, knowing when it’s time for a repaint isn’t always clear-cut, especially if you’re aiming to maintain rather than change your home’s aesthetic.
ADVICE expert expert expert expert
WHEN IS IT TIME TO REPAINT?
high traffic areas
Certain areas of your home naturally endure more wear and tear than others. Hallways, kitchens, and bathrooms are prime examples where walls are prone to scuffs, dents, and stains from daily activities. To keep these spaces looking fresh and clean, experts generally recommend repainting every two to five years, depending on the level of use.
baseboards and trim
Baseboards and trim add character to a room but also endure a lot of abuse, from vacuum cleaners to foot traffic and occasional collisions with furniture or toys. To keep these details looking sharp and to prevent deterioration, plan to repaint them approximately every two years. Regular cleaning can also extend the lifespan of the paint job on these surfaces.
The durability of your interior paint isn’t solely determined by usage but also by the quality of the initial application. A well-executed paint job using high-quality materials can

In contrast, ceilings typically require less frequent repainting unless they’ve been exposed to specific issues like water damage or heavy smoke. In such cases, addressing the underlying problem promptly is crucial. Otherwise, ceilings can often go several years without needing a fresh coat, especially if maintained well.
exteriors
The time frame for repainting the exterior of your home will vary based on the type of material, weather and climate of your area and the quality of the previous paint job. Most experts recommend repainting home exteriors every five to ten years.

HVAC Systems
HVAC systems account for a substantial portion of a building's energy consumption. We asked the experts at B.A.P. Heating & Cooling Services to share strategies you can use to enhance energy efficiency at home!
Regular Maintenance: Schedule routine maintenance to clean filters, check for leaks, and ensure proper airflow. Clogged filters and ducts reduce efficiency.
Upgrade to Energy-Efficient Units: Modern HVAC systems are designed to be more energy -efficient than older models. Look for units with high SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings for air conditioners and AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) ratings for furnaces.
Programmable Thermostats: Install programmable or smart thermostats to optimize temperature settings based on occupancy schedules, reducing energy usage during periods when heating or cooling is unnecessary.
Ductwork Sealing: Leaky ducts can waste a significant amount of energy. Properly seal and insulate ducts to prevent air leaks.
Zoning Systems: Implement zoning systems to heat or cool specific areas of a building based on occupancy and usage patterns, rather than heating or cooling the entire building uniformly.
Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) Systems: ERVs exchange heat between incoming and outgoing air, reducing the energy needed to condition incoming air.

ENVIRONMENTAL COST SAVINGS. TWO WHERE ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Windows and Doors
Windows and doors are critical for insulation and controlling heat transfer. Improving their energy efficiency can lead to substantial energy savings! The experts at KV Windows and Doors suggest you consider the following tips for ensuring the best energy efficiency from your home!
Energy-Efficient Glazing: Choose windows with low-emissivity (low-E) coatings and multiple panes of glass filled with insulating gases (like argon or krypton) to reduce heat transfer.
Proper Sealing: Ensure windows are properly sealed during installation using high quality products such as low expansion foam and exterior grade caulking. This prevents exterior elements from coming in

which can significantly reduce heating and cooling efficiency.
Insulated Frames: Opt for properly designed windows that have a multi-chambered design to keep the transfer of hot and cold to a minimum, thus improving the energy efficiency of your home while creating a comfortable living space.
Weatherstripping: Ensure that the window you choose comes complete with a minimum "Triple Seal" Weatherstrip System. This will provide you an air-tight window system eliminating air infiltration and creating a comfortable living space for all to enjoy.
STREAMLINED ELEGANCE
The goal for this project was to create a kitchen that exudes grandeur while embracing minimalism. The homeowners desired a spacious, functional, and visually stunning kitchen that aligned with their minimalist aesthetic.
This kitchen was part of a new construction, providing a blank canvas to work from. The task was to design, supply, and install the cabinetry, and the team decided to use modular cabinets to achieve a highly custom look. This approach allowed for both style and functionality to be at the forefront of the design.
One of the primary requests from the homeowners was to have ample storage and counter space. They envisioned distinct zones for clean-up, food preparation, and cooking, ensuring that each area would facilitate a streamlined and efficient workflow. The design team meticulously planned the layout to meet these needs, creating a kitchen that was not only beautiful but also highly practical.
However, the project did face its challenges. One of the most significant obstacles was selecting a backsplash. Despite the homeowners’ clear vision for the rest of the kitchen, they struggled to agree on the perfect tile. To this day, they have yet to make a final decision. Despite this, the kitchen is already a beautiful and functional space, and the lack of a backsplash has not detracted from its overall appeal. The pressure is off, and they can take their time finding a tile they both love.
One of the standout features of the kitchen is the island light, which serves as a true showstopper. This stunning piece draws the eye and adds a touch of elegance to the space. Despite the minimalist look of the kitchen, it is rich in detail. The two-tone color palette and the waterfall quartz countertop add depth and interest, while the thoughtfully chosen lighting and handles provide subtle yet impactful accents.
Each element of the kitchen was meticulously planned to achieve a clean and simple yet sophisticated design. From the sleek cabinetry to the carefully selected finishes, the team ensured that every detail was considered. The result is a kitchen that perfectly balances grandeur and minimalism, meeting the homeowners’ vision while providing a functional and inviting space for cooking and entertaining.
