“Would you like some milk and cookies?” asks Mama Puzzle. “Yes, please!” say Paige, Paxton and Penelope.

4

Mama Puzzle is Paige and Paxton’s mom. Mama Puzzle pours three glasses of milk. Paige helps by giving everyone a cookie.

5

Penelope is Paige and Paxton’s friend. Penelope is visiting Paige and Paxton.

6

When they get together, they do lots of different things. Sometimes they work.

Sometimes they play.

7

Sometimes they make things.

Sometimes they break things.

8

But today is a special day. Penelope is going to find her perfect fit, and Paige and Paxton are going to help.

9

In Puzzleland, all the puzzle pieces are different. But each puzzle piece has a perfect fit.

13

Paige and Paxton found their perfect fit by trying different things.

They think this is the best way for Penelope to find her perfect fit. 14

“Let’s get started,” says Paige. Paxton and Penelope follow Paige to the living room.

15

In the living room, Paige and Paxton’s dad, Papa Puzzle, is hanging out with his friends. “Hey guys,” says Papa Puzzle. “What are you up to?”

16

“We’re going to help Penelope find her perfect fit,” say Paige and Paxton proudly. Penelope nods her head in agreement.

17

“Really?” says Papa Puzzle. “We can help! Maybe Penelope’s perfect fit is engineering!” Papa Puzzle is an engineer, and his friends are engineers, too.

18

Paige and Paxton have never seen Papa Puzzle and his engineering friends this excited.

19

“Engineering is awesome,” says one of Papa Puzzle’s friends. “Engineering is behind everything that happens in Puzzleland.”

20

“Engineering is making things?” asks Penelope. “In a way,” says Papa Puzzle.

21

Engineering is the way we make sure things work as they’re supposed to work. 1. Normal force exerted by ground on front tire 2. Weight of bicycle 3. Drag force of air on bicycle

Engineers make sure our buildings stand strong and tall.

And our bridges don’t fall.

Engineers make sure our airplanes take off and land to a T.

And our food arrives safely.

“That is awesome!” says Penelope. “Could engineering be my perfect fit?”

26

Let’s see. Engineers love math.

30

“Wait a minute!” says Paige. “We were going to help Penelope find her perfect fit. You’ve ruined everything.” “Yeah!” echoes Paxton. “You’ve ruined everything!”

31

“It’s okay,” says Papa Puzzle. “The two of you found your perfect fit one way. Penelope found hers another way. One of the best lessons for us to learn is that there are many ways to solve a problem.”

32

“That makes a lot of sense,” says Paige. “The important thing is that Penelope found her perfect fit.”

33

This was a special day. Penelope found her perfect fit, and they all learned something new. All the pieces fell nicely into place.

Our Mission Change the course of a nation by making STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) easy to teach and easy to learn at the very beginning of a child’s educational experience Our Vision World Domination through STEM Why We Do What We Do For Kids: 80% of adults in STEM fields had at least one parent in the field. This means a huge number of our kids are missing out on opportunities that can be life changing. For Teachers: Classroom teachers face unprecedented challenges to meet expectations and standards. Teachers need time-saving resources that enable them to make small shifts in their classroom lessons to drive STEM interest and create a STEM mindset. For Our Nation: We’re losing the battle. Thirty years ago, 40% of the world’s scientists and engineers came from the U.S. Today, it’s 15%. STEM fields are where the well paying jobs are—and will be—in the global marketplace.
