Haley McNamar Selected as NCMC’S Outstanding Student

Haley McNamar from Brashear, MO, has been selected as North Central Missouri College's Outstanding Student for November. Haley is a Missouri A+ scholarship online student pursuing her associate's degree in business management. She will graduate from NCMC in May of 2025 and then plans to enter the workforce.

Haley said, “My shift from being on campus to being an online student has allowed me to be employed and work towards my degree through NCMC. I also like spending time with my family while continuing my education.”

Haley’s favorite class has been accounting with Instructor Ronda Copple. Haley said, “Most people say you either love or hate accounting, and I have always enjoyed it. Mrs. Copple always made sure that all her students understood the material and assisted them in any way she could. I’m looking forward to Accounting II!”

Haley went on to say, “I chose North Central because of NCMC's location and environment. I was only about an hour away from home when I attended classes on campus. I also like the size of Trenton...I come from a very small town and school, and I enjoyed a smaller college campus, as well as everything being close and not all spread out like other campuses. My decision to attend NCMC has continued to be the best choice for me, and I would not want my college experience any other way. NCMC has helped me build confidence in myself to be prepared to enter the business world successfully.”

Each month, a student is nominated by a faculty or staff member to be featured as an Outstanding Student based on their dedication to educational success, attitude toward learning, and hard work in their field and activities.

NCMC Student Asa Palmeri Elected Vice President of the Missouri Nursing Student Association (MONSA)

The North Central Missouri College is proud to announce that Asa Palmeri has been elected Vice President of the Missouri Nursing Student Association (MONSA).

MONSA, founded in 1952, is a statewide organization that fosters professional development and leadership skills among Missouri’s nursing students. As a constituent of the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA), MONSA provides its members with opportunities to engage in advocacy, network with professionals, and participate in leadership training. The organization’s mission includes promoting nursing education standards, supporting legislative activities, and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration.

As Vice President, Asa will work alongside the MONSA Board of Directors, which includes 10 elected student leaders and one non-voting consultant appointed by the Missouri Nurses Association. He will help shape initiatives that impact nursing education, support the organization’s annual conventions, and represent Missouri nursing students at state and national levels. This spring, Asa will be representing NCMC and

the nursing students of Missouri at the NSNA Annual Convention in Seattle, Washington, this April. Reflecting on this opportunity, Asa shared:

“I am incredibly honored to have been nominated as the VP for MONSA, and I cannot wait to use my voice and platform to be a positive and strong light in the field of nursing. I want to represent Missouri nursing students with pride as well as be an ambassador for NCMC throughout my tenure. This is an amazing opportunity, and I hope to make the most of my time serving.”

Asa’s election is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of his commitment to nursing excellence, leadership, and advocacy. Asa brings a wealth of experience and passion to his new role. Having lived in Jefferson City, Missouri, for most of his life, Asa was homeschooled and attended Lighthouse Preparatory Academy for high school. He earned his LPN license from State Technical College in 2016 and has since gained experience in hospice, mental health, primary care, pulmonary care, and nursing informatics. For the past four years, he has specialized in building and maintaining electronic

medical record systems for large hospitals. Asa’s dedication to advancing his education led him to enroll in NCMC’s Online ADN Program where he could continue to work and expand his education. Asa’s nursing journey is a testament to his determination, passion, and commitment to lifelong learning. Outside of nursing, Asa enjoys traveling, attending Boston Celtics and Kansas City Chiefs games, reading, and going to the movies.

Asa is currently the Nursing Student Representative for the Online Student Nurse Association at NCMC, where he has demonstrated strong leadership skills and offered great support to his peers. Asa plans to continue his education, pursuing a BSN and eventually an MSN in Nursing Informatics after graduating in May.

“Asa is a remarkable student and leader. His enthusiasm for nursing and dedication to his peers make him an excellent representative for NCMC and nursing students across Missouri," shared ADN Director, Sophia Swink. Please join us in congratulating Asa Palmeri on this incredible milestone and wishing him success in his role as MONSA Vice President.

North Central Missouri College To Launch NJCAA-Sanctioned Women’s Flag Football In Fall 2025

North Central Missouri College (NCMC) is proud to announce the addition of NJCAAsanctioned Women’s Flag Football, with the inaugural season slated to begin in Fall 2025. This exciting development for the college and the region is made possible through a generous $10,000 grant awarded by the NJCAA Foundation, NFL Flag, and Reigning Champs Experiences. The funding will support the establishment of NCMC's women's flag football program, helping to bring a rapidly growing sport to junior college athletics in northern Missouri.

NCMC Athletic Director Nate Gamet expressed his enthusiasm for the new program, stating, “I am very excited to be a part of the women’s flag football movement. Being the first junior college in Missouri to offer this sport is a huge success for NCMC, and I look forward to my role in expanding the sport across Region 16. Flag football has exploded in the Kansas City and surrounding metro areas, and now we can offer an opportunity for these young ladies to further their educational and athletic careers.”

As the first junior college in Missouri to launch a women’s flag football team, NCMC aims to serve as a trailblazer for the sport in the

region, providing aspiring female athletes with new opportunities to compete at the college level while pursuing their academic goals. With support from the NJCAA Foundation, NFL Flag, and Reigning Champs Experiences, NCMC is positioned to make a significant impact in the community and beyond.

“We are honored to be part of this exciting era for women’s athletics and hope to establish a lasting foundation for women’s flag football in northern Missouri,” said NCMC President, Dr. Lenny Klaver. “This will add to our array of current sports and be another opportunity for our athletic department to bring in athletes that further enhance our campus community. Our vision is to create a pillar of support for this sport and inspire future athletes across the region to pursue their passion for flag football in an environment that promotes both athletic and academic success.”

With the anticipated launch of the team in Fall 2025, NCMC looks forward to providing more information on staffing, recruitment, program development, and upcoming events in the near future.
